I love checking out wine bars. I didn't know that this place existed until I stumbled upon a yelper's review. So my husband and I went on a Friday night. Unwind is located off Hyde Park Square. When you walk in, you feel welcomed. I absolutely love the Rustic feel and decor (especially the fireplace). You seat yourselves. The restaurant is small which I like because it is intimate. Happy Hour Monday - Friday 4 pm - 7 pm. $2.00 off appetizers. I got the Bordeaux Wine Flight which was the special of the day. $19.00 which you get 4 glasses. My favorite was the Cateau Thieuley. It is made of Cabernet and Merlot, and has a great Oak taste. My second favorite is the Chateau d'Agassac. This is not a place to dine in. It is mostly appetizers and wine. We started off with the Parmesan Artichoke Dip (Crostini). My husband thought it needed more flavor, but I thought it was just right. Very delicious. Server was very helpful and efficient. My only con is there was not enough Crostini. We asked for just a couple of pieces and was charged $1.50 (not complaining about the price, but at least serve enough). They also have dessert (which we did not get). Next time I would like to try the Artisan Cheese Board and the Bruschetta Classica. They have an huge selection of White and Red wines. You can choose to get 3oz./6oz pours or Bottle. Pricing is reasonable. I heard they have special events from time to time. Bathrooms clean. Service is really good. Parking not too easy. Picture this: dark wood. Dim mood lit lighting softly bouncing off the rich texture of steel and plush Ralph Lauren pillows. Merlot themed accents throughout the space. Tall leather wing back chairs you could sink into for days. A warm cozy fire meets your cold hands as you are served a nice spicy glass of your favorite red wine. THIS IS UNWIND. I came here on a Sunday around 6:30 and their was a sense of serenity when I walked in. The ambiance is like nothing I have seen in Cincinnati. I felt like I was in a New York City hotel or lounge. Whoever designed this place did not skip a beat. Everything down to the cherry Merlot hand soap is perfection. The art features actually bring something to the space. This isn't goddy grapes dangling everywhere. The space is refined, elegant, and absolutely stunning! I think my favorite feature was the old wine barrels coming out of the wall. These bring everything together for a cohesive feel. I also liked right when you walk in the glass enclosure that all the wine bottles are in. Just beautiful!! Now onto the wine. The first thing I thought after a got over the heart attack from how beautiful this place was, it must come with a price...Surprisingly well priced, especially for hyde park they could be charging WAY more. But shhh lets not tell them that. Since it was happy hour all the "light fare" food is two dollars off. We ordered a cheese plate that was the best I've ever had! It had smaller portions, but at least five cheeses which I like. I loved the variety of flavors. It came with honey, blackberry jam, wafer crackers, an assortment of nuts, and fresh strawberry. Gawwwwd. Just thinking about it now I am drooling and for only $10!! $12 regularly. It must be popular because everyone we saw come in ordered it. We also had two glasses of red at five a piece for happy hour. Mine was perfectly balanced and our waitress let me try it before hand to make sure. She was great. The wine was great. The cheese was great. The atmosphere was incredible. If you are looking for a crack in this place you wont find it. An excellent display of just how awesome a wine bar can be. Unwind is my go-to place for girls night out. Unwind would also be a great place to take someone for a first date if you're trying to impress them with your wine knowledge. This wine bar is dark, sexy, and inviting on the inside, with a large glass front wine room so you can see all of the bottles and a huge fireplace. There are lots of cozy seating areas scattered around the room, and it's great for small groups or couples. For large groups, I would recommend sitting in the patio outside because there's more space out there for larger tables. Their wine list is extensive. I normally order the featured wine flight of the night, which includes 4-5 small pours of different wines. The last time I was there they had a featured Italian flight with two whites and two reds, so you got to try a variety. A wine flight costs around $20, so this place isn't exactly cheap, but you didn't come here to get wasted on cheap booze...You came here for the "high-end" experience. Service is a little slow, but I think that's because they want to leave you alone and let you enjoy your wine. Expect to be here for at least 2 hours just chilling and hanging out. Don't come here if you want a cheap drink and to head to the next place. FYI, they have a limited list of beers. This is good to know if you're with someone who just doesn't drink wine (aka my boyfriend). read more

This is one of my favoriteeeee wine bars in Cincinnati. It's just so darn cute inside and outside. I love how cozy it is inside. You almost feel like you're in your own home while sipping a nice glass of wine. They have some of my favorite wines too! They offer light bites as well if you get hungry. I've only had the cheese board and crostini with dipping oil. Both were pretty tasty but I wish I had more crostini! :) They also have a nice happy hour during the week where they offer a specific dollar amount off of beer, wine, and bottles of wine. Happy hour I believe is 4-7p which is perfect! It gets pretty busy in there though so be sure to get there as early as possible to get a good seat! read more

Updating my previous 5star review to reflect my current opinions on this business. While I love the ambiance and idea of Unwind, the staff has never seemed to be very friendly during my last few visits. Their website lists that they're open until 1am most nights, but on several occasions, the bartender will close (hours) early if they're not very busy. You never really know if they will be open during the week at 1030 or 11 if you go to meet a friend for a late night glass of wine. If they don't see business at that time, I think they should look into changing their hours. On my last visit, a girlfriend and I grabbed a glass of wine and were chatting when a couple was turned away from the bar and were told they had already called for last call (our waitress has told us about 2 minutes before they walked in and there were plenty of people still scattered throughout the bar, not to mention they were still "open" for another 40 or so minutes). I totally understand treating your staff well and getting them out in a timely manner, but at a certain point that way of doing business leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I have definitely had some great experiences and visits at Unwind and have been helped by very friendly staff members in the past. I will still visit Unwind from time to time - as they have an impressive selection and, as I stated before, I love the ambiance - but I tend to choose a different Cincinnati wine bar when presented with the option. read more

They have an outside patio that even has a fire-pit on from time to time and DOGS are allowed. Tucked away in a tiny corner of Hyde Park is a surprisingly large new wine bar. If you're looking for something other than wine, this is probably not the right place for you. They serve wine, they decorate with oaken barrels, they even entertain with documentaries about --you guessed it-- wine! So, if you're hoping to grab a beer and watch March Madness, you're probably looking at a stop somewhere else. Considering the locale, prices are actually quite affordable. Happy hour will knock a couple bucks off of every glass. I think I had a bill of $3 the other day, so you might want to check that out. You will, however, feel out of place without a collar and dress pants, so you can unwind merely by losing your tie. Also, beware of all the glass obstacles, I see myself in my less apprehensive years face planting like a bug on a windshield. Enter the vestibule and GO RIGHT! This is one of my favorite places in the city for Happy Hour. They have a very robust wine selection which end up being well-priced during happy hour. The atmosphere is fantastic, for any time of year. I've been here during the winter and cozied up with red wine inside with friends, close to the fire. I've also been here in the heat of the summer and sat outside and sipped a chilled rose. The outdoor patio spaces fill up fast, so get there early if you want to sit outside. Inside, there are a couple of side room areas where you can gather with a larger group. They also have couches and high top areas - so something to meet everyone's needs. The service here is outstanding. If you describe what you like, the server will make wine recommendations. I've actually had a server recommend a cheaper wine on the list based on what my taste was. Some places it's the opposite and they are pushing up the price. Not here. At Unwind, I feel like the servers and staff really do want to make sure you get a chance to "unwind" from the day. The food is excellent too. I absolutely love the roasted red pepper hummus and when I order the hummus plate, I've learned to request all red pepper hummus - because it's so good you could eat it with a spoon. The cheese plate is delightful and has a variety of items to bring out the flavor in your wine. And finally, the flatbread (if you're not low-carbing it), is really good too. I was alone, tonight, and stopped in hoping for a quiet drink and to read my book. Inside was empty except for two women getting their check and what sounded like a small group in one of the side rooms. I was not met at the door by the host/owner(?). The bartender looked over and asked me if I needed something and I reminded him that the sign said to wait to be seated. Then he asked if I had a reservation. He told me I could sit at the bar and waved his arms around to the tables and said "or at any of the tables". I chose the small table by the window because of the light so I could read. The server came over and asked me to move as this was her section and she was too busy. I said I really needed the light so I could read and she said, "sorry". Not wanting to take up a table for four or larger I went against the wall in the back. The bartender took my order. The server and the bartender later started complaining about another employee. The bartender was very kind and apologetic when I asked if my being alone was an issue. (I've experienced less than gracious behavior here, before, the couple of times I've come in, alone). I'm glad this bar is able to operate during Covid, however, my experience was very underwelming. The staff was a bit awkward and not very welcoming. Additionally, the food was mediocre. We ordered a simple margherita pizza which we jokingly compared to a bagel bite; it was drowning in marinara and had no fresh mozzarella which is a key ingredient. There are televisions at the bar just like you'd see in any bar, but they play old (romantic) movies and documentaries about wine making. Basketball games are nowhere to be found, ESPN Sports Center recaps? nope, ESPN Classic replay of the Royals vs Cards 1985 World Series?, no way ..... Male torture at it's finest. We both enjoy wine and the selection is diverse. The lighting is dim and the seats are comfortable inside as well as outside on the patio. The cheese plate is superb. Perfect spot for a romantic date night or Girls Night Out. I'm pretty sure that my husband enjoys Unwind almost as much as I do, but in an effort to retain his "man card", I believe he insists he only goes there "for me". I'm surprised nothing like Unwind has existed on Hyde Park Square until recently. While the interior is lovely, the front courtyard is one of the nicest spots in the entire city for a glass of wine on a nice afternoon or a warm evening. If weather is nice, be prepared to wait, because the secret is out. The wine menu is organized into wines by the glass, which are available in 3oz or 6oz pours, wines by the bottle, and other beverages, which include beer and sangria. The day I visited, a special flight was also available. I very much appreciate wine bars and restaurants that offer 3oz pours, because you can try a few different wines without breaking the bank and/or getting drunk. I believe there were between 8 and 10 white wines available by the glass and possibly a few more reds. I'd like to see an expanded by-the-glass selection, but those on offer ran the gamut. The food menu is truly "light fare," but the portion sizes were generous. For example, there are 3 tacos in a serving of the black bean tacos. However, not many of the menu items would work quite as well as the tacos for a satisfying lunch or dinner. Most were more appetizer in both presentation style and substance. Everything we tried was well-prepared but the focus here really isn't on the food and that's ok. I doubt Unwind will ever become a go-to when I'm hungry, but don't be surprised to see me drinking in the courtyard! read more

Second visit here--Saturday night and this place is very busy...so busy that the entire patio was completely full so we ended up sitting inside, which honestly, was probably a better deal in the first place. Since I didn't venture inside Unwind on my first visit, I was surprised to find everything the inside area has to offer--dozens and dozens of tea lights, a fireplace with large white candles, an assortment of clean, comfortable chairs and couches, a dark and romantic setting, and muted romantic movies playing on screen. This is THE PERFECT spot for a date night. We enjoyed attentive service--even servers who weren't waiting on us would stop by to make sure we were comfortable, and overall, the calm, soothing atmosphere makes it a great place to relax. Unwind was the PERFECT addition to Hyde Park and exactly what my friends and I were looking for. My friend and I went here when it first opened for happy hour on a dreary Sunday (they have since discontinued the Sunday HH), and fell in love. We sat across from each other in cozy leather chairs that you'd find in a ritzy hotel lounge. The ambiance in perfection -- deep woods, sofas, high top tables, rustic decor, a fireplace, plus a killer patio to boot. While their Sunday happy hours are no more (Rest In Peace), their current HH deals are legit. $2 off wine pours and $2 off apps on weekdays from 4-7. You can't go wrong with their "light fare," and they switch up the menu regularly. I recently tried the Smoked Gouda & Wild Mushroom Dip, which was tasty, but a little small to share (there were only 5 slices of bread for a ton of dip). They are also VERY accommodating for large parties. We had a party of about 15 and they set us up in the back room, so it was almost like our own private room without the cost of having a private room. The patio is perfect a nice day, and even better that I can bring my little furball Yorkie with me. Don't forget to start a VIP card (free of charge) so you can start racking in points! I just stopped in for happy hour (2 bucks off all apps, 6 oz wine, and beer) after a long day of shopping at Rookwood and it was just what I needed. The prices are very reasonable for the quality wines they serve. I got the bruschetta capra (thick pieces of toasted italian bread topped with a goat cheese mousse, sauteed shallots, honey, and lemon peel - it was really tasty). One weird thing I noticed was there wasn't any female staff - I'm not sure if it was just the night or what, but I just thought that was weird.... even if the customers are mainly women. Wow, he nailed it! This is a small, very warm and intimate wine bar in Hyde Park and I cannot say enough good things. I was there by myself and was nervous that I would feel like a complete creepster. But the minute I walked in, I felt invited. The atmosphere is upscale, but a little more rustic so it's very comfortable. I sat at the bar and was greeted by a very friendly bartender who was happy to chat with me. He recommended a glass of cab that was delicious and just my taste - not too dry but not too fruity. I'm a fairly boring eater so I just had their basic bruschetta, but it didn't taste basic. Nice crispy bread, very fresh tomatoes, and the perfect amount of basil and olive oil. A wonderful compliment to my wine. By the time I was ready to go, I was so relaxed and comfortable that I could have fallen asleep in one of their couches!
