Wine and Dine at Unwined! Wow what a wine bar! :) We spent a little under 2 hours driving from Boston to Milford, NH to not only sip on some lovely wines, but to enjoy some scares and laughs at a nearby Haunted house. And, it was a blast. Unwined is this posh new wine bar in Milford that opened last year by a Sommelier who was born in England. I would highly recommend reading their "About" section on their website. It has both indoor and outdoor dining. Due to the brisk night we chose to sit inside and we also had prior reservations. I would probably suggest reservations since it became very busy. Ambiance: This place is absolutely stunning. If you have read my reviews before, I am always mentioning something about ambiance and decor and this wine bar has it all. I need to ask who their interior decorator is btw. From green and gold color themed to dark wood accents, I was impressed by how beautiful, chic, comfy and sophisticated this place was. Service: We were greeted by Michaela who was very outgoing and friendly. We were able to sample a few of their wines BTG (by the glass) before ordering a full 6 or 9 oz pour. I ordered their Lambrusco which was delicious and the others ordered a few different ones as well as a cocktail. The wine menu is immense which is expected. Broken down into catergories: Bubbles, Orange, White, Red, etc. They also have bottle options as well. I will say this place is very expensive and since its my first time in this area I am unfamiliar with other restaurants wine prices. The wines were good, some weren't but everyones taste is different. Our server did not seem all that familiar with majority of the wines. She was unsure of the grape varietals and profile. The owner/Sommelier came over to help my friend looking for something specific. But overall we enjoyed the wines that were poured. Food: We shared the Charcuterie which was also pretty expensive since it says MKT next to it and our server did not inform us of the price before ordering it. When we got the bill everything that was on the board was broken down so that is why it was so expensive. There were 4 of us but I don't think the charcuterie was enough to feed us all, even if it was just an appetizer. I wish they filled the board a little more due to the price that we paid. We all ordered entrees as well. I got their Salmon which was fantastic. My husband had their Chicken Schnitzel and he said it was just ok but I enjoyed the little bite I got. Everyone else got different dishes and thought they were good. Dessert was also outstanding. We ordered their Pumpkin Tartlette but they had one other dessert on the menu. One thing I did like is the menu is not overwhelming at all. There are only a few dishes to order and I think they probably change them seasonally. Overall: I really enjoyed this wine bar and if it weren't so far away I probably would go back tomorrow. This is the perfect place to do some shopping at the nearby Antique shops and then come here for a glass (or 2) afterwards. Cheers and thanks to Unwined for making our Saturday even that much better with good food, and good wine.

Enjoyable spot for cocktails, wine, and a limited but good menu, sitting above the Milford Green a bit out of sight. Indoor and outdoor seating areas. Dropping by on a Friday night wasn't a problem; no wait (at least this evening).

After grabbing a cocktail and small bite at Greenleaf we decided to try this place out. Wow!! I wish we have just come here instead. We sat at the bar and the bartender was upfront with us and said they were short staffed and doing the best they could. Even with that being said, the service was great. We got a dozen oysters, brussell spouts and the risotto. The French 75 was perfect. Loved the ambiance and feel of this place. Definitely our new date night location! Can't wait to come back.

Came in on a Saturday night and thankfully was able to snag a couple seats at the bar. My Dad and I split the charcuterie board for two as a starter. He ordered the grilled salmon entree and I got the grilled picanha. Everything we ordered was served hot and perfectly seasoned. You can tell the chef and owner really care about the product they're putting out. So happy that this spot opened up. I can't wait for the nicer weather to come around to enjoy the outdoor deck space! Very extensive wine selection as well! It helps that the owner is a sommelier!! Can't say enough about this spot! Will definitely be coming back.

Absolutely amazing cocktails in a well lit modern vibe restaurant. Service was superb. Tapas were delicious too. This place changed my opinion about Milford after being disappointed at Bar One.

The view of the Milford Oval from Unwineds deck!

From the service, to the cocktails, to the food it was a five star experience. We were also lucky enough to see an incredible sunset. I had the cranberry amaretto sour cocktail, which was absolutely divine. We then had a flight of white wine with a baked Brie to start, and it was delicious. My husband had the short rib and I had the strip sirloin, both were cooked beautifully, and the short rib came on a bed of homemade pasta. I had a glass of their Malbec, which they recommended with the strip steak and it was so good that we bought a bottle to bring home. We ended our night with coffee and a pot de crème, which was out of this world. Our server Niamh, was fantastic. She was very attentive, warm and friendly and she helped make it a perfect evening. This place is a gem, would definitely return.

The waitress was knowledgeable on the wines and their pairings. We got the red wine braised shortrib poutine and and it was AMAZING I've tried a lot of poutine and this was one of the best. The meat was so incredibly flavorful and soft, the cheese had the perfect cheese pull, the gravy was scrumptious and the fries were thin and perfectly salty like a better version of a McDonald's fry. For dinner we split the steak frites and duck breast. The steak was well seasoned and was a nice size, the broccolini was surprisingly really great, and the fries were just as good as they were in the poutine. The duck breast was a pass for me, and I love duck. It was cooked medium as a default and that is not my preference. It was quite chewy and I didn't think it tasted like very much at all. The mashed potatoes were very good, I think they have a real knack for all things potato here and the farro was good and very flavorful for being a side portion. I would definitely come here again but probably stick to the red meats.

Reservations recommended we were seated at a beautiful table for two right near the bar and started off with a Pinot noir and a cabernet. Both wines were delightful. For appetizers we had the braised lamb crepe and the octopus... Both dishes were delicious, presented well with sauces to die for. Followed by the pasta dish and the duck. These were the best dinners of the year for us. The blending of flavors were fantastic and it was augmented by the owner coming over and talking to us about how the food was prepared. I won't bore you with all the details but the octopus is slow boiled for 5 hours.. complete with wine. Corks it was tender and delicious with the Mediterranean flair. We go out to eat our fair share from high end to diners anywhere. The food is well prepared and delicious... This was the top for the year! From the service to the presentation to the wine to the ambiance, everything is top notch here. I will provide a warning. You will drop a pretty penny if you partake in all the courses, but we thought it was well worth it. Thank you to the staff and ownership. We enjoyed our evening.. a true date night.

So, we finally got to try the chef's table, or "Chef's Whim" as it's officially titled. Eight…read morecourses. In addition to the food, we added the suggested alcohol pairings. I say alcohol because it wasn't all wine but ... since it's a bit of a surprise in terms of what actually appears I'll just leave it at that. However, as to the food ... I'll give a taste, a flavor, a wisp of a whisper of the full culinary adventure. For complete details, see your local sous chef! Here's what we had. In the middle of my photo collage, a blood sausage slider with fennel/jalapeño sauce on toasted brioche bun. Then clockwise from top left - cornbread with maple glaze in a Barbie sized personal cast iron skillet; beet salad with goat cheese half spheres; a dessert tray of black apple cake with hay ice cream (yes, seriously), chamomile pot de creme and a duck fat beignet; an assortment of ice creams - fenugreek, fennel/maitake mushroom/burnt hazelnut (all tasted fabulous and in each you could taste the listed flavors); entree of duck and wild mushroom tart; white bean soup and finally a pasta dish of ravioli with two fillings. Just a note on what it would take to make it yourself. See that hexagonal white blob on the bottom row, middle pic? That's a potato foam. Forgive me for not recalling the full procedure but the prep is roughly 7 hours long. First, the cut potatoes are cooked in a sous vide for 2 hours so that no moisture is added to them. Then a succession of ricing, smoking, drying, undrying, mashing, placing in a foam machine that looked like a whipped cream dispenser and boom - a tiny dollop of potato. It tasted great. But man - that's a lot of effort for a mouthful of potato. I don't think I'll be trying it at home. Over two hours of eating and chatting. I brought a couple of my restaurant-based cartoons as my personal thanks for the meal and was shocked that Justin, their sommelier, had done a cartoon of his own ahead of time for me! Just stick to wine, Justin - I don't need any MORE competition with my magazine editors ... With Dylan ably providing the primary chef duties and Amaya and Justin handling the booze, the meal was a smashing success. The food pairings were masterfully chosen and timing of the dishes meant we were always primed for the next one. Although the succession of what I'd call dessert dishes made me start to feel like a Hobbit enjoying dessert, second dessert and then post seconds. As Anton Ego said in Ratatouille (and they have a cute Reme rat under glass on a shelf) "I shall be returning, hungry for more."

Drive 5 minutes over the state line to Putnam's in White River Junction, Vermont for that sommelier-staffed experience. Love the ambience and rigorous focus on elevated, quality ingredients, at Putnam's. They have a corkboard-covered 3-ring binder menu which is aptly named a Field Guide. Trust me, this name is earned by the Tasting Notes alone. The field guide is like a thesis for advanced Upper Valley sippers, Vermont or not. If you forgot your book or paper, just saddle up to the Putnam's Field Guide. You'll find an elaborate offering of editorial descriptions of beverages from wine to martinis (6 kinds) to beer and whiskey (one from Japan). Btw, it's rare to find a wine bar that doubles as a gorgeous coffeehouse serving pastries, espresso-based drinks, teas and breakfast sandwiches on weekends. I'm looking forward to enjoying them sometime if I'm back. The offering at Putnam's Vineyard rotates seasonally, so I will describe what was there on my visits. Visit their website for updated menu surprises. As for the evening and weekends Fall menu, they call their offering Picnic Food. It's a modest title for an extensive offering of appetizers and a few sandwiches. Think fancied-up olives, pretzels, Brazilian cheese puffs, a craft beer mix, 2 melty sammies with Vermont cheeses (1 with turkey, the other veggies), beet and chevre arancini, dips and a vast selection of desserts. Vermont cheeses, apricots, Marcona almonds, dried apricots and crostini are looking divine on the cheese board. Oh, and there's also Superbon Madrid potato chips with Osetra caviar and a mini spirit of Gaston Chiquet champagne. Just saying. There is also a weekend brunch menu with bagels and egg sandwiches. As for the wine, I recommend a flight at Putmam's. In the fall season, these flight offerings were named: the Bella Blanca Wine Flight, the Falling Leaves Mixed Wine Flight, Fireside Reds Red Wine Flight, The Forgotten Bunches Mixed Wine Flight and the almighty and an unforgettable Sparkler Flight. In this flight, I slowly savoured 3 wine sparklers at $25 total. (And no, I cannot spell savour without a "u.") These wine flights are a true value. And here are the wines in the sparkler flight: 1.) Cava 2021 by Avinyó 2.) Crémant de Bourgogne Sparkling Brut Rosé NV by Albert Bichot 3.) Lambrusco by Villa Castellazo ROTA The Cava is everything. All three were delightful and I showed up needing warm fuzzies on an evening where there was live music so the total experience was extra lovely. There is also a whiskey flight! The coffee and craft beverages selection for the fall/winter menu includes a nitro cold brew, a brown butter latte with Maldon sea salt and biscotti and a FROLA New Orleans style cold brew slushie with maple syrup and coconut cream. To any craft and coffee beverage you can add Vermont Ice Cream Coffee Liqueur or Whistle Pig Piggy Back Bourbon. Yes, please. If you are making a trip of it, catch the local bbq joint across the way from Putnam's at lunch and then visit the wine bar for drinks. Layer up, because I've been nippy there twice, and then linger over one delightful beverage after the next. Oh, and there is a charming wine shop at Putnam's with handmade gifts to peruse, as well.
