Walking Elm St, my wife and I came in for some drinks and an appetizer. What we liked: Great atmosphere! Friendly Bartender Calamari app was very good! What we didn't like: Drinks were ok, my manhattan had too much vermouth. Measuring your pour for drinks is a bad look for a place like this. We go to plenty of other area restaurants that do not do that. For this 1st time limited experience I give 3-1/2 stars and feel they have lots of potential. We'll be back to check out their main menu which looks very good. read more

Evolution Bistro & Bar (EVO) has opened in Downtown Manchester, in the former bluAqua Restobar on Elm Street. The place has a classic American bistro feel with hardwood floors, dim lighting in the main dining room/bar area with small lamps and soft back seating at each dining room table, soft back high seating around the full service bar and wine bar, and stool seating adjacent to the bar. There is also a separate green room with bar in the back. I made an online reservation for Saturday evening dinner. Upon arrival and checking in, I was seated at a nearby table with a comfortable blue felt high back chair and given food and drink menus including at New Year's Prix Fixe menu $100+. The food menu offers a selection of crafted appetizers, salads, main entrees including pasta, seafood, chicken, steak & beef ribs, and housemade desserts. The bar offers 20 beers on tap, wine list, cocktails, and mixed drinks. The prices are on the higher side. The server arrived with a blue glass bottle with chilled water and glass. I put in my order for a starter, Focaccia with Cod Dip ($14 plus tax), which had 4 soft chewy olive oil focaccia bread pieces with a soft creamy cod dip, which had a semi sweet flavor. Next, for an entree, the Salmon ($34 plus tax) had a seared Norweigan salmon, with horseradish cream sauce, roasted beets. crisp kale, roasted shallots. While the cod dip and the focaccia bread was pretty good, the salmon dish was served lukewarm and a smaller than normal portion. For a dessert, the Donut ($10 plus tax) was a small hot deep fried donut coated with cinnamon sugar, topped with raspberries, fried donut hole over creme anglaise. This dessert was very good as recommended by the server. The check was presented, which came out to $62.93 with tax and before tip, card payment taken tableside with portable Toast payment reader. In all, the appetizer and dessert were both sold good, while the main entree came up short. The service here was attentive and prompt. EVO seems like a good place for a dinner date night out for couples or group of friends. The noise was a bit loud here drowning out the background music including plenty of patrons sitting up at the bar. I will give EVO another go on a free night. read more

The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. There must have been a slight issue in the kitchen because our six orders came out in three trips and the staff apologized for the delay every time. We enjoyed our app of oysters and charcuterie. Very good. The smash burgers were a hit, the croissant bun was a nice surprise and the fries well seasoned. I had the spiced pear, beet and goat cheese salad with steak tips. It was very tasty but I didn't get enough food for the money. Barely a cup of "salad" didn't even fill half the plate. Some lettuce would have improved the look and bulked up my entree. The steak tips came on a separate same size plate. Putting it with the "salad" would have made the entree look like a real meal instead of two tapas plates. It was very tasty, the steak was cooked to order -medium rare. Only one piece had gristle. But I really would have enjoyed more of the salad. I left hungry. The person with the Caesar salad and steak tips was not very complimentary, but she would not say why. She also didn't care for the vermouth in her dirty martini. The pumpkin raviolis- that person said they were okay but expected homemade. We don't know if they were made in house, but she didn't think so. Again, not a good value for the portion. Would we go back? Not sure. It was loud and noisy. We would only order the smash burgers because they were the best value. It would be great to see this restaurant succeed. The decor is really charming and the staff were trying really hard to make us happy. read more

10/10 Recommend! Made reservations a month ago for Valentine's Day and EVO did not disappoint. The hostesses were pleasant, professional and had full coat service. Ambiance is upscale and modern with different dining experiences and bars. Dress up as attire is very nice. We had dinner at the bar with Lauren who was an amazing bartender! My wife had a special valentines strawberry vodka drink and I had an Old Fashioned that were both very tasty. Started off with Beef Rib Fries that hit the spot - melt in your mouth meat, seasoned and salty fries with a creamy gravy. For dinner my wife ordered the Gnocchi and I order the Filet with the creamiest mashed potatoes and best tasting spinach I've ever had. The filet was cooked medium rare perfectly. My wife didn't care for her Gnocchi and the manager came over immediately to asked for feedback and a suggestion. She ordered their Chicken Schnitzel and the owner Scott personally brought the entree over. Customer service at its finest! BTW the schnitzel was hands down the highlight of the night. Fantastic!!! Family event (my triplets 25th birthday) in private room. From the moment the 9 of us arrived, we were treated like royalty. Love the atmosphere/vibe. Not as fancy as I expected but it was perfect for what we wanted. The oysters were superb. Fresh as could be. We shared a Rib eye with mashed potatoes and ordered the Brussels Sprouts. Asked if they had a gluten free menu and were quickly shot down. As we sat enjoying amazing food and out of the realm drinks at STASH BOX 866 Elm street I checked the menu of evolution and immediately saw they have GF options. The ill informed hostesses make for a bad impression. We went with my original choice of STASH BOX and from the appetizers, drinks to the entrees we just enjoyed the best food. Went with a group of 6 ladies. Three of us had the braised beef. We were blown away and all said it was literally one of the best meals that we have ever had in our lives, anywhere! It came with a side of polenta that was also like no polenta I have ever had. Everything was outstanding - the apps, the drinks, the atmosphere. The braised beef was so good one of us ordered a to-go so she could bring it home to her husband to try. It was that incredible! For apps, we had the cauliflower, Brussel sprouts and the olives. For dinner I got a braised beef rib that fell apart with the touch of the fork.
