When I'm curious of a place and I'm not convinced yet, I always go to Yelp to see what the people have to say and the people love the pastries here for good reason. This place has some good pastries. I would come back just to satisfy the sweet tooth again. I will say, leave the snow puffs for enjoying when you're not in your vehicle unless you're okay with a mess lol

We happened in to HI Pie and were surprised to discover such a hidden gem. I ordered the chicken pot pie which was $13 (reasonably priced for a handmade fresh mini pie). The cafe is well designed, clean and not crowded, so we didn't even have to wait in a line. I'm so excited to return and can't wait to try some of their drinks - the matcha latte looked promising I think they use Ami Mei matcha, chocolate chip cookies and other sweet flavors of pie. Sorry babe, we don't share HI-Pie Pineapple Cream Pie no more. I recommend anyone trying it get your own. The Pot Pie was easily the best Pot Pie we've ever had - seasoned perfectly, creamy, and the crust was flakey on the outside with a little heart cutout on top making it enjoyable for our toddler to eat. Cute little bakery located in Haleiwa. Plenty of parking behind the bakery. - Recommended for both the Pot Pie and Pineapple Cream Pie. - Not recommend to share the pie - be greedy, eat your own, lick the plate

I am a bit surprised about the negative reviews here regarding service and quality as that hasn't been my experience. From the moment we interacted with the staff, the attitude was cold, dismissive, and unnecessarily rude. It wasn't just one bad interaction or someone having a bad day. The looks, the tone of voice, and the overall way we were treated made us feel completely unwelcome. My wife noticed it immediately after ordering, but I brushed it off because I didn't want to jump to conclusions. After I had to go back to ask about my watered-down matcha latte, I experienced the same treatment myself. That's when I understood exactly why she felt the way she did. Maybe that wasn't their intention, but as Asian customers, that's how we left feeling. You don't need to understand every word someone says to recognize disrespect. People can feel it through body language, facial expressions, and tone. No family should leave a business feeling this uncomfortable after simply ordering a couple of drinks. We drove out of our way to support this place and instead left disappointed, uncomfortable, and with no desire to ever come back.

My dad said the rooster literally jumped on my plate and grabbed a bite before being shooed away by the restaurant worker. Today was enough for me to say that it has to be done. First the girl at the cash register couldn't muster a greeting or an anything. It seemed like she was mad at the money. I still tipped because I didn't want to screw the people preparing the food. Second the food took forever to come. Then the people behind me were getting their food ahead of me. Mind you I ordered their easiest burrito (potato, eggs and cheese) and a bagel. It took them 25 minutes to work the science behind defrosting a bagel I suppose. The person making it needed to look at the receipt 5 times to figure it out. Before she could get it together she had to change the TV channel. Third the food was basic. Not great and it took close to an 40 minutes to order and wait for it. Save the time and make a Jimmy dean sausage biscuit at home. Never again. Lesson learned.

One thing I really appreciate is the variety of Japanese-inspired syrups you won't find at other shave ice shops. I went with flavors like Kyoho grape, yuzu and ume, which were refreshing and vibrant. They tasted much more natural than the typical artificial syrups. I added Japanese mochi as a topping, which is the perfect complement to the fluffy shave ice. The ice itself is light and fine, soaking up all the syrup without becoming icy or crunchy. Can't wait for my next visit.

I went with a small for $3.75 (an affordable price in Hawaii!) with Blue Pineapple, Ume, and the limited time POG, and no toppings, as I prefer to enjoy shave ice as is. Though I liked the price and ice texture, the overall shave ice left much to be desired. I still enjoyed eating it, but I don't believe it would've tasted better to me if it had a snow cap or other toppings. Shave ice should be yummy on its own, without any additons. Matsumoto's has an extensive list of flavors. I don't know much about the syrups they use, but I noticed that these flavors didn't really pop out as much as those from other shops. I thought that pineapple, plum, and passionfruit-orange-guava would be distinct from each other, but they kinda had the same level of syrupy sweetness. Ume was the only one that had a hint of tartness, which I appreciated, but it was overwhelmed by the generally sugary, juice-like flavors. Ice texture was like an elevated snow cone. It was slightly crunchy yet still smooth, melting and combining easily with the syrups. They give you a spoon and a straw. Service was ok. The person at the front takes your order, then you keep walking in to pay at the counter, then you keep walking down towards the end of that counter to pick up your order. Staff weren't as chipper as I thought they'd be - they were simply going through the motions, fitting for what looks like an assembly line of making shave ice. There's lots of merch inside, from snacks to shirts to tote bags. Seating is only available outdoors, but there are plenty of benches and tables in the little quad there.
