A great experience. Our server, and there's only one, was very friendly and engaging. SHE made the experience. We escaped today from the flatlander norms of North County and ventured up a path (State Hwy 78) that we hadn't trekked for a number of years. I think this is the only town with a Bol Weevil hamburger joint. We initially sought after and found it. We just couldn't bring ourselves to having lunch there. Too many good spots up here in Ramona. Searching Yelp, we found this place and decided to try it based on the large menu. We had a couple of delicious sandwiches, but I could see as the plates came outta the kitchen, I should've ordered a burger. They really looked awesome, ; and quite the variety, vbut we were already elbows into our plates along with house-made offerings. We also had the excellent ranch dressing that was offered along with the good onion rings. Decided to take a little drive and ended up here to eat. We went in and there was nobody else in there except for the hostess. The hostess was also the server who was patient, but also got busy after two more groups came and one other person that sat in the front by the door. Things took a while and the waitress doesn't really smile, but the food was great. We had asked if the crab and one of the appetizer dishes was real crab or imitation and she told me she didn't know. We asked if there was someone in the back who would know and she said no I don't think so. In the end, she went in the back and found out it was imitation crab, so that was helpful. Anyway, the place is decorated pretty cute. Very eclectic. We enjoyed ourselves and had good food so we were happy. read more

I have to say, the only reason I gave 3 stars, is because our waitress was accommodating and wanted to make things right. The restaurant is very small, we first sat at a booth, the seat was ripped up, taped up. The sun was setting and blinding us, asked for the shade to be lowered. Unfortunately, due to age, the blind could not be lowered, no matter who tried. Moved to the other booth, side by side booth was not even, was awkward to sit in. Placed the order, 2 burgers, one with an egg, kids chicken strips, crab, cheddar jalapeno appetizer and Bacon Mac n Cheese with chicken strips. Appetizer arrived, was good everyone enjoyed. Burgers arrived, no egg one the one. Kids meal was good. Then came the Bacon Mac n cheese, with chicken strips, mind you this is a $19.00 entree. The dry congeled kraft deluxe Mac n cheese was cold and dry. Sent back, apologies that they should have added milk when heating, asked if we wanted fresh chicken strips, sure even though it takes 8 minutes to cook fresh ones. Let me reiterate this was called BACON Mac n cheese, if there was 2 crumbs of Bacon bits, I would be surprised. Honestly, this "specialty" should be knocked down to a kids meal, after all kids love boxed Mac and cheese. Very disappointed in the service was not greeted at the door, took a while to get seated. Was told to sit just anywhere wasn't taken to the table. Was not greeted by a friendly service person. She was very quiet. Didn't ask us how we were, didn't go over the menu,took forever to come back and take our order. Over all seemed very inexperienced and not wanting to be there. Treated other customers in the same fashion as we sat there for quite a while, watching people come in. There was also a younger guy there who had his back to the door when someone came in did not greet him just told him to wait. Someone would be with him then left into the kitchen. On a Saturday, summer drive, just relaxing on a mountain path, we entered Ramona on our journey. Feeling the need for a rest stop and a quick bite, we saw the sign for Up The Hill Grill and it just felt like the place to stop. Simple cozy interior and a peaceful outdoor patio, this place was perfect for our summer day pit stop. But then....the food came out...and OMG. Not to dismiss all the options, but the food we chose was BEYOND expectations. The fried avocado was perfectly battered, not too heavy, nice and creamy, so perfect. And then there were the burgers. Seems simple to order but WOW did they impress. The meat was dripping with juice, the topings fresh and crisp, the bacon was perfectly crunchy and the right chew. Oh and the beer battered fries! Little hole in the wall, we weren't expecting much but this turned out to be one of the better meals we've had! Tiny indoor dining area with lots to look at, they even have a car on the ceiling with working headlights. Menu was huge, burgers, salads, sandwiches and more! They have a great selection of appetizers as well, the fried green beans are a must try! It came with a really flavorful sauce that went perfectly well with it. The burger was a really great burger, exactly what someone would want. A downside my boyfriend did mention was the brand mark on the burger bun did make it have a burnt taste, but overall he still really enjoyed it. The turkey sandwich was incredible as well, and HUGE. The turkey was not deli meat it tasted like fresh cooked turkey, it was incredible. The fries were outstanding as well, and so was the ranch! Service was fantastic the entire time. Sometimes my husband and I just need a good burger. We thought we'd have to go out of town to get one but then we discovered this restaurant. Their burgers are amazing and exactly what we're looking for. The service is good but we've mainly just done call in and pick up. The ambiance is nice. I like the location and the cozy inside. It's just a little bit pricey for us so it's a treat we can have once in a while. read more

My fiancé and I went here for his birthday and I can't believe how great the service, the food, and the vibe was here. Our waitress was amazing. She even told us about a special dessert that they're trying to get on the menu and had it made for his birthday. I really hope they get it (Mikki's Sweet Potato Funnel cake) on the menu. Took a drive up the hill from Esco to redeem my free birthday club appetizer. We got the fried pickles and they were excellent once they cooled down a little bit. My wife got the Vegasaurus Rex and loved it. I got the Smokey's Popper Burger that is a take on jalapeno poppers. It was also delicious. Both came with thin cut krinkle cut fries. They were also very tasty. Our server was super friendly and we enjoyed our lunch very much. It's a small place so it could probably get crowded on weekends and holidays. We will definitely make the trip back up the hill again before my next birthday to try something different. read more

I went on a Monday night, and they're open until 10 PM every day. The covered outdoor seating area is really charming. I shared the 19 Wheeler burger with a friend, and it was honestly one of the best burgers I've ever had--the fried avocado was an amazing addition. On our way to Three Sisters Falls, we stopped in to the Up The Hill Grill. We arrived at lunchtime and it wasn't too busy. We sat outside on the patio as the weather was perfect! We started with the Crazy Poppers. The BEST jalapeno poppers I've ever had! The bbq sauce added an edge to this dish. Although I wish they offered more for price. My nieces lobster bisque was tasty. I ordered the fried avocado with bacon cheeseburger sliders. They were delicious! I'd never had tried fried avocado, but I'm a fan now;) The burger was juicy and the toppings were fresh. We ordered their jalapeño poppers, lobster bisque, grilled cheese sandwich with crinkle fries (kids' menu), and burger (can't remember the name, but it had Mac n cheese in it). The jalapeño poppers and the burger were the standouts. The grilled cheese sandwich and lobster bisque were good but nothing to write home about. Fairly large menu of American faire. Lots of burgers and a curious amount of options with avocado. Son enjoyed his Bacon Mac and Cheese with Chicken Strips. Even though the strips are cut, you can specify a "wing" sauce. My Chicken Chipotle wrap was not too big and better and spicier than expected. Recommend! This is a great place !! The atmosphere was perfect for a burger and a beer. We took our food to go and when we got home it was still hot and ready. I had the burger with Ortega Chili's and sour cream and my wife had the burger with the Fried Pickles and Onions. The server was awesome too !! Found this place randomly when my girlfriend and I were driving home from Indio. Not disappointed! This place was a great random choice. We got the Maple Bourbon Bacon Burger and the Garlic Rosemary Parmesan Fries. The burger was really good! They didn't ask how we wanted it cooked, so it was a little too well for my taste, but my girlfriend thought it was perfect. The jalapeños and onions were such a great add-on, too. Lots of flavor all around. I love how they stamp their logo on the bun. The bacon mac and cheese was not the best, though. The fries were a great appetizer.
