I had a wonderful experience working with Updos for I Dos! I communicated a lot with the team leading up to my trial and wedding day, and they were incredibly helpful and willing to answer any and all of my questions. It was great to meet my hair and makeup artists during my trial and work with them to talk through what I envisioned. My hair is fine so my hairstyle didn't exactly match the photo inspirations, but my artist did a style that was in the same realm. For my makeup, I said I wanted to look like myself but elevated, and she hit the nail on the head. On wedding day, they delivered. They worked with our tight and early timeline with a lot of women (10 total) having their hair and makeup done, and I felt beautiful on my wedding day. My only small bit of disappointment was that my hair started to fall by cocktail hour, so my bridesmaids had to spend a little bit of time re-pinning and hairspraying to get it back in place, which took a little bit of time away from enjoying the reception. But overall, I definitely recommend Updos for I Dos for your special events. read more

I used Updos for Idos for my wedding and am so glad I did! They stuck with us through two years of postponements and were incredibly easy to communicate with. Even though my trial ended up being two years before the wedding date (thank you covid!), I was able to send updated pictures and alterations. I was excited to use this company for my wedding hair and make up for myself and five others. The hair was OK. I would say that I'm pretty up-to-date on make up trends and do my make up regularly with higher end products.However the make up was horrible. She did a good job on my skin. However she used harsh bronzer on my cheekbones as well as a dark blush that did not complement my skin tone. The eyeshadow looked extremely harsh, and once she lightened it it still looked harsh and was not blended out. There was a harsh cut crease and I was taken aback that she thought that that was OK. I had to ask her to blend it out. The eyeliner was uneven and she hardly put any mascara on. She barely put any lip product on. When she asked me to take a look in the mirror I was thinking "are you serious?". There is no way she thinks that this looks good. I had to go into my purse and pull out my own lip gloss to put on. At one point I was explaining to her how I do my blush after telling her that it was not blended out. I had to ask for the brush and blend my own make up out. I paid $271. I should not have to do that. To top it off she was using drugstore make up products. I had to ask her to use the Nars blush that I use at home. When you pay that much money you want the best and you want to feel like the artist is in control of the situation. Very disappointing. My friends and family agreed that the make up looked atrocious. I went home and immediately wiped it off. I felt that I wasted my time and money. I spent an hour and a half with the artist getting my make up done and felt that she was not understanding what I was communicating. Finally I just said it looked fine so I could leave. I will not be returning back to this place.I could do my own make up better than this. Save your money read more

I booked Updos for I Dos to do hair and makeup for me, my bridesmaids, my mom, and my mother in law for my April 2024 wedding. From the beginning, the process of booking, scheduling my trial, and communicating details regarding the wedding day was extremely smooth. Everyone I spoke to was very professional, responded to me in a timely manner, and were more than happy to answer all of my questions. They were able to accommodate my request for a weekend trial and helped me nail down the look I wanted and that would look best on me based on my inspiration photos. On the wedding day, Liseth and Heather arrived on time, kept us on or ahead of schedule with getting ready, and took all of my feedback from the trial into account to execute a look even more perfect than I ever could have imagined! My bridesmaids, mom, and mother in law all loved how their hair and makeup turned out and we were all impressed with how well our hair and makeup held up throughout the day. Five stars for hair. Three stars for makeup. Hello wedding season! I recently got the honor of being a bridesmaid at Megan V's wedding. She hired Up Dos for I Do's to do our hair and makeup. Mindy, the hair stylist was fantastic. Five girls with five different personalities and hair types....she was able to handle all of our own personal styles with ease and grace. Plus she was fun to work with! I couldn't be happier with my braided up do that she did. My hairstyle lasted all day but it still felt pretty natural (don't you hate crunchy updos?). $95 per person was a bit pricey but she did a great job and I'd happily refer her to other clients. The makeup artist was another story. She was more like a one trick pony who only paid attention to the smokey eye class in beauty school. We didn't look busted but I am pretty sure any of the girls who were there could have done makeup themselves better. As their company name goes, stick to the hair. Just look at the pictures and judge for yourself. The owner, Ashley, is a scam artist. She makes promises to get your money upfront. Dana was our stylist. I have very think long hair. I gave her pictures, but she couldn't do it & came up with every excuse as to why including my hair was too short. Well, my hair reaches to the middle of my back and my bangs fall well below my chin. She clearly had no idea how to accomplish either of the 2 styles I sent BEFORE I paid. I tried to explain the front mattered more than the back. I said do the best you can, but she was curling my hair in tight curls when all the pictures I gave her didn't have any tight curls. She was curling forward when the pictures clearly showed the hair swept back. In the end, I told her to curl some and leave some because we ran out of time, but I hated my appearance. I have beautiful thick long hair and this was awful. My bridesmaid has thin hair so I purchased extensions and paid additional costs for them to put them in. Well, 75% of them were not used and the style was a total fail. Basically, hire these people if you want your hair pulled back & tied in fancy knots behind your head. That's not what I wanted and I was clear about that. I hated my hair on my wedding day & there's nothing that can make that up. I repeatedly tried to tell her what I wanted but she had no clue how to do anything other than an updo tied tightly. She did not understand that an iron will flatten my hair and remove any volume. All she wanted to do was curl it with a curling iron. That's clearly not how to achieve that look. She said she had another wedding and had to leave at 2pm... yeah right. Not sure why only one person came for 4 people including the BRIDE and supposed to have time to add 2 sets of extensions. They will gladly take your money and offer assurances with credentials, but at the end of the day, there's no satisfaction guarantee, only a no money back policy. So if u pay for them to put in extensions & they show up and say they can't, your screwed out of your money. If you don't like what they do and you ask them to fix it, they're under no obligation to stay and make you happy. I gave Dana an average tip and wished her well. Updos For I Dos was truly a lifesaver for our wedding. Since we were getting married out of state, we decided to use a salon close by our venue for ease. However, our trial did not go as planned, and my mom and I both left feeling extremely nervous and defeated. I had experience with Updos previously when they did my hair and makeup for my best friend's wedding 5 years ago. They did a fantastic job then, and I realized that we should have just gone with them in the first place despite the commute. My mom had the worst experience during her trial with our first salon, so was extremely nervous about our trial with Updos. Andy had us cracking up from the start, and Amanda was so kind and welcoming. They both made us feel so comfortable and we were so relieved when we saw the final outcome. We felt like movie stars! It was so easy to book with Updos and they were so kind despite some unusual circumstances and late notice on our part. The day of the wedding, the team showed up right on time to our venue in Pennsylvania and got down to business with my huge bridal party. Each of my 12 (!) bridesmaids are extremely different, but the team listened to their wishes thoughtfully and made them all feel beautiful. Amanda did an amazing job with my mom's hair, including adding a halo; which was fantastic because my mom was worried about her hair. Finally, my makeup and hair made me truly feel the most beautiful I have ever felt. My sister chose my dress for me because I loved wearing fairy princess dresses constantly growing up. The combination of my hair, makeup, and dress made me feel like a fairy princess. Andy, Amanda, and the team were so fun to dance and get ready with and were so kind throughout the whole experience. My best friend had actually used Up Do's for I Do's back in June 2009 for her wedding, so when I started researching hair/makeup team, I'd included them in my list to consider. I ultimately went with them because their per person fee was among the lowest in the area (crazy that $90 is considered 'low'), and since my girls were paying for their hair and makeup, that was important to me. Mindy and her team were a delight to work with throughout the entire process. My trial was quick and painless even with Mindy 'tweaking' the original hairstyle to be more to my liking. Please do NOT be afraid to tell them if you don't like the look during your trial - otherwise you won't be happy on your wedding day. Be prepared that they only do trials on Mondays which can be a pain, BUT if you plan ahead, you may be able to do it on a holiday (like MLK Day or Columbus Day) when most people have off work - this allowed me to do it without taking PTO from work. Another idea, try to schedule your dress fitting on the same day so you can see how your hair will look with your dress! I was so happy I said something to her at my trial because I LOVED my hair on my wedding day and got tons of compliments as did my bridesmaids. They showed up on time and even finished both makeup and hair early, allowing us to have some extra time for fun and photos before getting dressed. I had an absolutely terrible and upsetting experience with this company. Do not hire them. I booked them for hair and make-up services for my engagement shoot. The shoot was rescheduled for one week, so I rescheduled the appointment. I arrived at the Vienna salon 15 minutes before the appointment and the door to the studio was locked. As I was waiting outside, a man from down the hall asked who I was waiting for. He told me that he had seen other people waiting outside and that I should tell them to get a chair to put in the hallway. I didn't take that as a good sign. At the scheduled appointment time, no one had still arrived. I called and no one picked up. I sent an email to Caitlin and Ashley saying that I was waiting outside and I received an email back from Ashley asking for my phone number (which I had already provided them with). She called me and told me that they had put the wrong date down on the calendar. I was literally speechless as this was very time-sensitive and my photo shoot was at least 45 minutes away from the salon. Ashley apologized and said they were contacting all of the stylists to see if they could come. I find it very strange that there were no stylists available nearby. She then told me that Caitlin would come from Baltimore to do my hair and make-up. Obviously this would not work. By some saving grace, I was able to find a hair and make-up studio nearby that could accommodate me. Still, I was an hour late to my photo shoot and we were unable to take pictures for the full time allotted because it was getting dark. I could not imagine how terrible this would have been if it were on my actual wedding day. Such a mistake is completely inexcusable Up-Dos should be so embarrassed. Not only that, all I received was an apology and (obviously) a refund for the services that were not rendered. Caitlin did not even call me to express her apologies ... she sent me an email. They did not offer to reimburse me for the extra expenses I paid. read more

All of my bridal party's hair and makeup turned out Fantastic! Caitlin was the best. She was very responsive to my emails and wanted to make sure that everything would go perfectly for my wedding day. If I wasn't happy with my makeup, she made sure that it was taken care of right away. Liz did a fantastic job with my hair and my bridal party's hair as well. Jenn also did the hair for some of our bridesmaids and flower girls, and they all looked incredible. It was hard to find a good hair/makeup place near the Delaware beaches but I would highly recommend Up-Dos for I Do's. They were extremely efficient and finished all of my bridal party faster than expected. I will think of them every time I look at our awesome pictures and how great everyone looks!! read more

I am so surprised to see average reviews here on Yelp while Wedding Wire is filled with GLOWING reviews of this wonderful business. I just had to throw in a review here after five-star service from Up Dos for I Dos. First of all, I have done one hair trial with Jess and two makeup trials with Beth. All of my experiences here - from being greeted by both Ashley and Caitlin to the actual services to countless changes over email were stellar. I feel so compelled to write prior to my actual wedding day because of the awesome service I've received. I didn't grow up planning my wedding day - I was more likely to be found playing in the mud or covered in bruises from skateboarding. I don't wear makeup and usually just throw my hair into a messy bun, as it takes quite a bit of work to style it the way I like. I'm pretty useless when it comes to explaining what I want, but both Jess and Beth were awesome at figuring out what I meant despite by cluelessness. Even if you are totally clueless when it comes to fashion like I am, you need to be comfortable speaking up. We tried a few different hairstyles before I fell in love with what I saw. Complete satisfaction with your look will only happen if you do your best to articulate your thoughts to your stylist. This was even trickier for me with makeup - I don't EVER wear it, and have had some bad experiences with it. I don't know the right words to say, so it took us a little longer, but Beth still somehow was able to work her magic. The first trial was great. I told Beth that I wanted a natural look, but didn't really know exactly what I meant by that. She spent tons of time adjusting for me and explaining what would soften with time and what the camera would take off. It was a little more dramatic than I normally would've wanted, but I wanted to give it a fair chance, as I don't know what wedding makeup should look like in the first place. I went home, Skyped with friends and family, and took lots of pictures. I let time pass and came back to the look several days later. Ultimately, the consensus was that while the makeup was expertly applied, it just wasn't "me," who normally never wears any makeup. No problem - these ladies quickly scheduled me for a retrial and really listened to what I had to say. I felt so bad, because I didn't want anyone to think that I didn't like the makeup - it just wasn't what I had envisioned for my wedding day. I spoke with the one person who has done my makeup in the past in a way that I liked, and got lots of close-up pictures of that day to bring with me. Not only did Beth carefully study them, but she really listened to what I had to say and told me how helpful all of it was. At no point did anyone make me feel badly for coming back - instead, they told me how nice it was to see me again and that they are so excited for the big day. Whew! For this non-traditional bride-to-be, that's a big relief. To make a long story short, Beth NAILED it. She figured out exactly what this non-fashionista was trying to say and created a look that was polished, flawless, and totally me. When I looked at my reflection in the mirror, I saw a made-up version of myself ready to marry my best friend. My makeup-hating fiancé's reaction? "MUCH better." To those reading the lackluster reviews regarding makeup and service: I urge you to consider these awesome artists. If you've done any research on bridal services in the area, you have seen their name appear time and time again - for good reason. They are wonderful and have always treated me with so much kindness and respect. If you are unsatisfied with your hair or makeup, you need to speak up and give them a chance to try something different. Coming from someone who knows nothing of this realm, you need to be prepared with specific examples so they have a starting point. Expecting anyone to read your mind the first time around is unfair. I found many issues with this company. It seems that they are more into making money. $95 for make up and $95 for hair is completely outrageous. The make up was awful. I am no make up artist, but I literally had to remove it all and re-do it. My hair......it was curled and looked awful. She did a nice job on up dos. I wish she would have stated that she was trained to do hair down? I wish I could receive a refund to be honest. My mother's hair is short and it looked like she just brushed it. (She was the mother of the groom). I felt awful. I had to fix EVERYONE'S hair, including the mother of the bride and the bride. Would not recommend. read more

Updos for I Do's does things a little differently than some of the other beauty teams I had gotten quotes from -- you don't get to choose your stylist, you are assigned one. This was a little nerve-wracking as many stylists widely vary in their styles and strengths, but luckily they try to keep the stylist the same from the trial to the wedding. Caitlin did my makeup and was a dream to work with. She was very welcoming and nice at the trial, super attentitive and very receptive to feedback/criticism. She didn't get offended when I made suggestions or had a hard time articulating that we "were close, but not quite it yet". She worked hard to find a style I liked and that went with my skin/eye/hair tone. We talked about my prefered lip and after I let it be known I didn't like gloss, she suggested a color and lip stain that would last. I was impressed by her professionalism and kindness, but her makeup skills really sealed the deal on the wedding day. She worked around a mini-breakout and flakey skin and my makeup looked stunning -- the retro-inspired but still modern look I wanted and my bridal crew and mom all loved their make up too. We were finished with plenty of time and she was (as already experienced) super sweet with my friends and family. I was very appreciative of the good experience. It was important to me that my family and bridal crew felt comfortable, welcomed, and pampered. Jess did amazing work on the day of the wedding. My hair mirrored the retro-glam modern look I was going for and was perfect. Even though I have dark hair, you could still see the braids and weaving she did with the style and my side bun was in the perfect spot (not too forward, not too far back, not to high, etc). I had concerns after the trial about how the finished product would look -- we had a hard time finding a style that I liked that worked, and I wasn't sure if I was still totally happy with the look after the trial, but it turned out great on the day-of. My family & bridal crew were super happy with their styles and there was a mix of up-do's, blowouts, half-downs, and slick-back styles. For the cost, Updo's for I Do's was worth it. I did like the a la carte pricing so I could decide who all wanted hair, makeup or whatever combinations vs one-size fits all packages. My mom couldn't get over that they came to us in the hotel vs having to go to a salon. Grandma was happy with her look and I was over the moon that everything turned out perfect for me and that my group felt taken care of. I would recommend Updo's for I Do's to anyone looking for a beauty team. Pro-tip: Over communication is key on your likes & dislikes prior-to and throughout. Don't let any fears of hurting their feelings stop you from saying you don't like something -- they are professionals and should be able to receive feedback and they just want you to like your style so be assertive. I found in the chair that I had a hard time using my words to describe what I liked and didnt like about it, but tried hard to articulate it even in a jumbled sense because "I hate it" doesn't provide the feedback they need to fix it. Sadly, I did not have the same wonderful experience that others seemed to have with Up do's for I do's. I went in for my trial with Jess and was taken after a short wait and having to fill out paper work, detailing my likes and dislikes. I guess they don't bother to read those because I had to explain it all to her when I got in her chair. She did my hair first; I showed her a picture of what I wanted and the result was only "okay." After that, she did my make up which I stated from the beginning that I wanted to be light and natural. That is not what I got at all. My eyes were very dark and my lips bright and shiny (I said I wanted it to be soft and pouty). I told her several times that it was too dark for my liking, that I wanted to look like myself on my wedding day. The responses I got were "You need the eyeliner to make your eyes pop," "The camera takes off 50% of the makeup," "You should just let it set for a while, live with it, ask your friends and family their thoughts," & "we can make adjustments on your wedding day." At no time did she offer to start fresh or make recommendations about what would bring out my natural features, or really say much of anything about the process and products she was using. So I was forced to accept a look I did not like, but also pay a hefty sum for it. I was so upset with the makeup that I was tearing up as I handed over my credit card. Nothing was done to right the situation at that time. I contacted the person who set up my appointment and let her know how upset I was. The only solution that I was offered was a retrial more than a month later with the same artist, and only 2 weeks before my wedding, at a location that is more than a 2 hour drive away from me. When I said that time and place would not work for me, I was sent a list of other vendors and no apology. To allow a bride to leave your studio in tears and do absolutely nothing about it is quite a sad business practice. I will not be using, or recommending them read more

A month before our wedding, I was booked with a different vendor - and after a not-so-great hair and makeup trial - I contacted Ashley of Up Do's For I Do's in a semi-panic. Ashley quickly replied that the team was available for our wedding date AND they squeezed me in for a hair and makeup trial before the wedding - which went perfectly! On our wedding day, Samantha and Kristen arrived early, were cheerful and fun to work with, and made sure every girl looked her best. Cannot recommend booking Up Do's For I Do's enough. One piece of advice: Make sure to book top tier hair and makeup for your wedding day, the day is stressful and chaotic enough - the last thing you want to worry about is having to re-do your hair or makeup, or it not looking professional in photographs.
