The management here are the biggest morons I've ever dealt with in my life. Trying to order blueberry bagels from this joint either via doordash or GrubHub will not get you what you order twice I have gotten the wrong order first I ordered 13 blueberry bagels I got every flavor but blueberry today I ordered blueberry bagels again and I got $13 rolls don't order from this place they don't give a rat's you know what about what you're ordering and when you call them they could care less. Go visit Kaufman's Bagel Bakery or New York Bagels because this is the worst. And it's the management that is horrible. read more

They make a darn good bagel sandwich at Upper Crust!!! Been here twice now and I have to say my favorite is the Black Russian. Fried salami on a dark pumpernickel bagel with melted muenster cheese and spicy mustard? Are you KIDDING ME!!! The fried salami takes me back to childhood memories, more often so with fried bologna but LOVE the fried salami!!! $8.99 for a bagel sammy, side and can of pop. A tiny bit steep, but they also have daily specials. Plus it's quality over quantity here. I think the bagels are actually better than Once Upon, and they use high quality meats and cheeses. I'd like to come back for the fish and deli plates sometime soon! read more

I absolutely love upper crust bagels. I had never been a huge bagel person, but this place is different - their bagels are fresh and flavorful and made just right! This review is solely based on their bagels. Happened to pass by this place a few times and noticed their "Bagels" sign and made a mental note to stop in there. Finally was in the area again so I made my stop here. Now, bagels are one of my favorite things, almost an obsession. For good ones that is. I really enjoy eating Pizza Bagels and other bagel sandwiches however, over the few times that I've eaten here the quality isn't really that good. All bagels I've had were either soggy or very greasy, and they tasted like plastic. Keep in mind that I am only explaining the experiences I've had, I'm sure others have had better. read more

I went here for lunch and got the lox bagel sandwich and cream soda, and my daughter for a plain bagel and cream cheese with juice. The bill was $16 which to me is expensive. I gave it 4 stars bc the food was good and I like supporting local businesses. Only 3 tables though so if you're in a group plan on taking it to go. read more

Love the regular staff and the bagels. Ran into one of the owners last weekend and he was condescending, rude, demeaning and enough to make me never go back --having been a regular for years. It was also enough for me to actively tell people not to go to the shop. Life is too short to be spoken to/treated rudely. There are enough bagel places that I can find a good bagel place where the owner won't be demeaning. Sad because the regular staff is excellent. Delicious lox cream cheese to go with their fresh, crusty (in a good way) bagels. Prompt service in the rush hour.

This is probably the best quality deli. The menu is simple cause the best food is simple. Every sandwich comes with a side - chips or their homemade (really homemade at that location) cole slaw or potato salad. The bagels are made at their other location in Deerfield, and the fish is smoked right there in Northbrook - which is used to make the tuna and whitefish salad, also made in house. Oh yea - and the cookies: made in house. Gilbert was so friendly and proud of the product that we thought he was the owner. He's not, so the owner is lucky to have him. Only three tables, so most people take it to go, but you can eat there. And everything was very clean! The only reason it's not five stars is cause of the Styrofoam. Not only is not good for our planet, but good food like theirs deserves better than Styrofoam. Gilbert wrapped our sandwiches and cookies in paper at our request. :) read more

Great local spot for morning grub. Have been here a couple of times early in the morning (7am ish) to pick up some bagels and/or breakfast sandwiches. I personally enjoy the (Black?) Russian bagel and their selection of cream cheeses. The employees are always attentive and helpful. Definitely a gem in the North Shore area. read more

Never going back to this place again! You get 4 stars for the food and zero stars for service, thats why I'm giving you an average of 2 stars. I come in and order the Monday tuna lunch special (sandwich, side and soda). I get the bill and the guy behind the counter over charges me. I ask what gives and he says its extra because I chose cherry soda. Oh course this is already after he charged my card. Too late to give it back. Then with a really snarky attitude he says "what u want me to give 60 cents back?" Seriously!? With other great bagel shops (Once Upon a Grill and Big Apple Bagels) within two blocks your going to nickel and dime me and not even tell me until after you run my card. I've been coming here weekly to pick up a quick brunch on my way to work. For months, almost every Friday i'd stop in for my 2 plain bagels, toasted with butter. Today after I'd paid my $3.04, while I was waiting for my bagels they asked me if i'd like to join their rewards program. Since i'm a frequent customer I go to sign up on the tablet by the register. It has some trouble reading my card so one of the employees swipes it for me and signs me up, then he rings me up for $5.23 for the membership. I didn't know it would cost anything when I started the process, but since i'm there once a week for my bagels I hope it won't take too long to pay for itself. I take my bagels to my car and head to work, and much to my dismay they're covered in cream cheese, which I abhor. Too late for anything else I'm stuck at work with an empty stomach and a bad taste in my mouth, both from the food and from the feeling that they'd rather squeeze an extra $5 from me than make sure they get my order right. Additionally, upon looking at the details of the rewards program, with my regular meal it would take me nearly a year to get that $5.23 back. I'm a creature of habit. When I find something I like I stick with it. When a place rubs me the wrong way I never step foot in their doors again. Enjoy the $5.23, it's the last you'll be getting from me Upper Crust. EDIT: I emailed the rewards program about canceling my membership and getting a refund. They told me that the rewards program is free. Upper Crust Bagel stole $5.23 from me. EDIT 2: Upon returning to Upper Crust and relaying to the employee my displeasure with what had happened he refunded me my $5.23. He was there earlier and had taken my order and charged me for my initial purchase, a second employee signed me up on the rewards program and charged me for that. The employee told me they aren't supposed to charge for it and wasn't sure what the other guy did, and offered me my usual for free next time I was in. I told him I wouldn't be coming back. I would be curious to hear if others have been charged to join their rewards program. If not then maybe it was an honest mistake. If so, well, something is up. Either way they've lost me as a customer. I was probably a little more agitated than I should have been, but iI'd chalk that up to not having had anything to eat for over 20 hours at this point, thanks to the screw up with me order rendering it inedible, at least for me. (Even after seeing they were made wrong, I did try one. My feelings on cream cheese have not changed.) read more

All good, but they, along with Max and Bennies, have the best hand cut belly (salty) lox anywhere. They get this from Acme in Brooklyn, NY, and no lox comes close to this in flavor. It takes you back to Ashkenaz on Morse Avenue in Chicago, circa 1965. All of their other stuff is good as well. read more

Stopped in there this morning for my usual bagel and nova lox...I have to say that this place makes it with special attention to quality. If you have issues paying an extra buck or two then go somewhere else. What you do get is a very generous portion like nowhere else.
