Not sure how 4 bagels and one small cream cheese can add up to $18.00+? When I asked the lady about the charge, she gave me a hard time about it. When in again and she said they were out of bagels. Out of bagels?? I kinda left scratching my head about that one!! I went to Once Upon a Bagel in Highland Park and bought nine bagels and one cream cheese for $15.00+. Staff at Once Upon are kind and on their game. Appreciating your customers and fair pricing is important to me, so I will not be back to Upper Crust. read more

AVOID the egg white salad and the smoked whitefish. Just spent a small fortune on it and it is going in the garbage. Eggs are NOT hard boiled in house and arrive in a bucket of vinegar, tastes rank, inedible. The smoked whitefish is raw and mushy inside, BARF. The top layer tastes Smokey but once you get 3 centimeters into the fish it is raw and there is ZERO smoke taste. Called to let them know how awful the food is and the manager told me I don't know what I'm talking about. Anyone who actually enjoys this food has clearly never had even mediocre smoked whitefish or egg white salad. Great bagels but not good enough for me to return. On top of awful and expensive food, the owner has ZERO customer service. Looks like I'll be driving to NYB in lincolnwood moving forward. read more

Hands downs the best nova in Chicago.. splurge and get the hand sliced.. it's moist, oily full of flavor and melts in ur mouth... I'm an East coast Nova snob so trust me on this. They were very quick with service and still friendly to everyone in the store! The bagel sandwiches were delicious! The texture of everything was perfect and the flavors were excellent. Worth the trip every time. Lucky to have them in the Chicago area. Puts most of the mainstay bagel shops to the south to shame. The smoked sable is worth the drive, as well, among other delicacies. Just writing about it, now, has encouraged me to return in the morning. My experience with the service has always been handled well, but when there is a crowd, patience can help. A real NY style Jewish deli with crusty, chewy house-made bagels and bialys. Even better are the homemade cream cheese spreads and salads of many sorts: white fish, chicken, tuna, regular egg, egg white and more. Daily specials are a good deal. Today I tried the sesame sandwich which normally comes on a sesame bagel, but I opted for a soft rye. Included are lightly grilled ham, turkey, Swiss, Russian dressing, lettuce and tomato. Really top notch ingredients and super tasty. I have also tried the salami special on a pumpernickel bagel and it was also superb with mounds of a flavorful soft salami and onion. Most sandwiches come with homemade coleslaw or potato salad. There are about 4 tables in the place and seating for 10 or so. Black and white cookies, halvah and tasty biscotti are also available for dessert. It's really good. Regulars know that the entrance is in the back off the parking lot. read more

I had run into the fish store next door at lunch, so when i was leaving figured I'd try this place. I LOVE bagel sandwiches! Well, turns out they were out of my 1st choice of bagel, so decided to go with a plain bagel. Basically I just got a turkey with cheese, plain. They didn't even ask if i wanted it toasted. Threw it together and rang me up. Not impressed with the service. In fact i found the guy working borderline rude. And i almost fainted at the cost for one sandwich. There was one other thing that I didn't appreciate while there, but for the life of me I cannot remember at the moment. If it comes back to me, i'll update review. i don't think I'll be back. The only reason i would try them again would be to pickup bagels to toast for breakfast. read more

Bagels don't come any better outside of New York City. This is my favorite bagel place on the North Shore, and they make wonderful challahs, too. The lox selection is amazing, as well. Service is very efficient, and waits are seldom long. The prices are on the high side, but you pay for quality. These are true New York-style bagels, with lots of chew. If you get lucky, you'll get one when it's hot. Those are the best. read more

Tuna sandwich on a bagel was so good! Tried it with the upper crust tuna salad and the celery tuna salad. Definitely recommend both.

Couple things that stand out (besides it's odd entrance on the backside of Waukegan road. 1) great, tasty strawberry cream cheese. 2) amazing hand cut smoked salmon (aka hand cut lox)... a-mazing. The bagels are also good. And not as dense as some of your other local bagel establishments. I'm giving it a five for those three things. Haven't tried them all but some of the other baked goods like banana chocolate bread, are decent. Chocolatey for sure. If you like your banana bread with extra chocolate, this one's for you. read more

Picked up a small catering order of bagels and cream cheese, also ordered 2 pounds of hand cut lox for $98.00. A friend was over early and asked where I got the lox from, told her Upper Crust. She said how much did you order? 2 pounds. She says bet it's not even close. Pull out the old food scale and with the little tray they use not a bit over 23 oz? I think they have the bagels anywhere, and I'm also a fan of the Upper Crust tuna salad, lox and cream cheese. Breakfast sandwiches on the grill are really to die for. Although I'm not there as often as I used to be, Ronnie and John run a tight ship and the product is consistently excellent. I've been a loyal customer since before the current owners. If you are there on a weekend, the staff does it''s best to take of your order efficiently. I get requests from out of town and out of state to "bring the bagels" and it's always my pleasure to provide for friends and family. If you know Deerfield, you already know this store is a local treasure. read more

The New York Times just printed a great article about the best bagels in North America, St.-Viateur Bagel in Montreal. They charge $9 a dozen (that's US dollars). How do you guys justify $17 for Bakers Dozen? It's not like a run down strip mall on Waukegan Road in Deerfield is the high rent district. Your product is very good but when your look at the prices, gouging seems like an apt description. read more

i love upper crust, and we're lucky to have such excellent, fresh bagels right around the block. their lox and white fish are great and the egg bagels are warm and delicious with a perfect chewy crust and soft inside. my kids love the rainbow bagels, i appreciate the local craftsmanship that goes into this place. read more

As an east coast native, I find it almost impossible to enjoy bagels anywhere other than the NY area. However, Upper Crust Bagels continuously gives NY bagels a run for their money. Every time I come here I'm pleasantly surprised, and feel right at home. Their breakfast sandwiches are cooked flawlessly, and I would highly recommend this to anyone in search of a great bagel. Get here early and you will be rewarded. The everything "supreme" bagel is great but they're all super fresh and fantastic if you get there early enough. However you like your bagel, they make it well. That said, their breakfast sandwiches crush it. I used to love the corned beef hash, but I stopped eating red meat. I was worried that they would not make turkey as well, but the turkey pastrami breakfast sandwich put my mind and stomach at ease. It is awesome. I like it even more.
