I love this place. I wish I could have afforded to go here more often when I lived in Fredonia. The Garden Veggie sandwich is pretty amazing, and their coffee is good too. Really laid back coffee-house vibe, with really fantastic baked goods, bread and pastries. If I'm remembering correctly everything is baked fresh right there. Seating is sometimes difficult to find during peak hours on the weekends around brunch, as the place is pretty cozy. Service is super friendly and fairly quick, given that sandwiches are made to order. Their soup is really great too. Definitely a place worth checking out if you are in the Dunkirk/Fredonia area. read more

Fredonia native. Grew up with Upper Crust. Recently visited the area and had lunch there on 9/19. Of the three of us, we ordered sandwiches, soups, and salads. I've always liked Upper Crust and think it has some great food, but a part of me feels it's lost the greatness I remember as its former glory. For example, turkey sandwich comes out with two thick-ass slices of bread, but like one slice of turkey. The ratio is all off, and I don't remember it always being like that. With more turkey, the sandwich would have been outstanding. As it is, merely good. Tomato Mushroom Soup seems a mainstay, and no doubt is it good, but one can tell a lot of sugar is used in the broth/base. Almost makes it too sweet you ask me. Still, very good... just rich. The real winner, though, is the potato soup. It's as good as I remember it. With the homemade bread, quite delicious. Left with some coffees. Those were good. Good service. I've been waiting to get to The Upper Crust - and finally got the chance to go with my fiance'. I ordered the tomato-mushroom soup (because I read the reviews that is was the best ever) and the turkey and cheese panini. My fiance' ordered the creamy potato soup and the chicken and apple sandwich. We took home a Lemon Pound cake. Here is my honest opinion: Tomato-mushroom soup: I couldn't tell you how excited I was to try this soup. But I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I did. This soup was SUPER SWEET!! Do NOT mistake me; not a little sweet - VERY sweet. I couldn't finish it. I reserved it for dipping my panini in, but to eat it freely all by itself - was not possible! I read the reviews that said it was sweet. I thought to myself, "How sweet could this be? They are mistaken" - - they are not wrong. It's unfortunate because it's potential is very high. The texture was great and nicely thick. Turkey & Cheese Panini: was fantabulous!! I'd get that again!! Nice and toasty! Creamy Potato Soup: This soup was AH-MAY-ZING =) This is what I'd order for myself next time. It was perfect and not even in the "sweet" category. Chicken and Apple Sandwich: The homemade bread was so soft and delectable! This sandwich was different and fantastic. Lemon Pound cake: OK.... this one speaks for itself! WOW! Nicely dense cake with lemon glaze. In the end - I can't WAIT to go back! There are SO many more things I want to try. This little bakery has ruined many an experience elsewhere. I live in DC now and end up splurging on "fancy" bread from the city's most popular (and expensive) bakeries, but I'd trade anything for a chocolate volcano or sack of potato rolls. Now that I think about it, the turkey sandwiches with inch-thick bread would do mighty fine down here too. When I'm home for the holidays, this is where I go. Traveling I90 we wanted to stop for lunch. Found this restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. I had the 1/2 Tommy club sandwich and the corn chowder, the 1/2 half sandwich was very large. Don't worry about going away hungry. The bowl of "chowda" was served very hot. I was concerned that maybe it would be bland, however, my concerns were unfounded, as it was excellent. My wife had the 1/2 Turkey cheddar panini and a bowl of garden vegetable soup. Again the portions were generous and the garden vegetable soup reminded her of her grandmothers. High praise to say the least. The 2 lunches plus a Diet Coke ran $22. On the way out we picked up a chocolate chip cookie (large), lemon raspberry cake and a cherry turnover for the road. Those ran about $6. Very reasonable for locally sourced and home made. read more

i had the turkey and cheddar panini, the tomato and mushroom soup and a cup of peanut butter hot chocolate. everything tasted fresh and was very appealing. the atmosphere was comfortable and free wifi is available. it was more expensive than I thought it would be (prices are not listed on the menu board) but it was quality food and very friendly service. i will definitely eat here next time I am in town. read more

If you're a 20 year old hipster you will think this place is amazing. The servers were rude to guests. When the woman working brought the food to a guest and the guest said it wasn't what she ordered, the employee said "that's what my ticket said, that's what you ordered" and dramatically sighed when she aggressively grabbed the food basket away from the guest. The food is very basic - they take any basic sandwich and put it in a panini press. The bakery items are good. Felt like anything a simple person could make at home. I went to college at Fredonia and loved when my parents would come into town and we would go here. Now that I go between the Southern Tier to my parents house and back to Buffalo where I live now, I find my car making the detour to Upper Crust. Their bread products are awesome. I always go for either the turkey sandwich or the turkey club. The thick, soft white bread reminds me of the homemade bread my mom makes. The turkey is roasted and thick and the veggies are fresh and plentiful. They have lots of choices for soups, wraps, paninis and on Thursday they make a bunch of different delicious pizzas. My mom is a vegetarian and loves coming here. Easy to make substitutions/changes to orders too. You can't go wrong with the entrees. Yes, they are a little higher priced, but you definitely get what you pay for. They have a good selection of baked goods. Some I like better than others but my favorites are the cinnamon rolls and when they have the cherry cheese braid! They usually have loaves of sweet bread, scones, pastry 'clouds' and some cookies. The coffee is also very tasty and fresh and they have a large menu of specialty drinks. Everyone working there is friendly, cheerful, and helps set the nice tone for the atmosphere. You see everyone from students, families, Fredonia 'natives', and more enjoying. Upper Crust is usually the first place I recommend to people headed to the Fredonia area. read more

One of my favorite lunch spots in Fredonia! I was in town today for alumni weekend and was happy to see they added additional seating right when you walk in. I ordered a turkey cheddar panini and a pumpkin chai latte (which was good but slightly too sweet); the panini was delicious and the half portion I ordered was very filling. Luckily we arrived right before the Saturday lunch rush because it got super busy! A quick search on Yelp showed me that Upper Crust had some lunch fare, and I took the trek across the street not really expecting much from the small town eatery. I was completely wrong. This place deserves every bit of 5 stars for their laid-back but friendly vibe and their amazing tomato mushroom soup. I never thought I'd rave about soup, but here we are. It is easily the best soup I've ever had! My dad had the garden vegetable soup and was also impressed, especially with the thick, yummy bread. This is one of my all time favorite places to eat. They are a small coffee house with soups and sandwiches as well as an assortment of baked items. You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. I recommend the Tomato mushroom soup and a turkey sandwich. They bake the bread fresh daily and do not used processed meat. I have found myself sitting at work in Washington, DC fantasizing about Upper Crust and realized that I just had to write a review about it. Everything that I've had at Upper Crust was absolutely topnotch. The delicious thick slices of bread, the creamy rich tomato soup and the fantastic selection of deserts always had me scrambling to get out of classes at SUNY Fredonia and over to Upper Crust. If I remember correctly, they also deliver in the area during lunch hours. The only downfall is that it can get insanely crowded in there during peak hours. My favorite is the tomato mushroom soup. I will definitely go out of my way the next time I am in Western New York to go here! read more

Came to visit after 15 years and the food is even better than I remember! The tomato mushroom soup is creamy and sweet with a little kick...the only tomato soup I've ever liked! Their bread and baked good are amazing...super fresh and obviously made with love. They have a club sandwich with fresh ham, fried eggplant and banana peppers which sounds weird but tastes incredible! Whenever we are in Fredonia I make a b-line to the Upper Crust for a Mediterranean panini. By far the best Eggplant sandwich around. Today hubby and I shared a 12oz bowl of the Garden Veggie and he had the Tuna Melt. Of course we had to have a raspberry cloud to go with all this. We left feeling like we had been on a cloud. Wow. Walking into this place, we did not have high expectations being that this is western NY. The "med" paninis sandwich melts in the mouth with sublime delicious flavor. The "garden veggie" soup is extraordinarily flavorful and good. The "veggie chilli" soup is terrifically chillilicious. Next time, I'll try the "tomatoe mushroom" which they had run out of on the afternoon I visited. We will make this cafe a must visit on future visits to this area. read more
