This LBS use to be La Dolce which was my go to bike shop for maintenance and repairs. The place now called upshift has pretty much continued what La Dolce left behind. Which was a good bike shop with good service. I've gotten a few bikes tuned here and they do a fantastic job. All the gears are sound and shift like butter they also clean the drive train making the bike look brand new. They also did free installs when I purchased the parts directly from them. There was an issue with one of my bikes they couldn't fix but I respect them trying to get the job done. They didn't charge me any kind of diagnostic fee which is super cool of them. I would highly recommend this place for any maintenance or repair. It's important to show your LBS some love!

Added a very cute basket and helped repair my bike!

10/10 recommend this place! I brought my bike in here and they were able to both install a very cute and practical basket and also detect and fix several major problems with my bikes brakes. I was so glad they took some extra time to take a look at my bike because I had been riding it around when there were some serious safety problems! They were kind, helpful, professional, and reasonably priced.

Best bicycle shop in the Bay Area. We have purchase two Bianchi bikes here. The service level is great! The owner makes sure you're treated like family! He takes the time to make sure your needs are covered, it's not about selling bikes. It's about riding!!! He wants to make sure you have a comfortable ride. The repair shop is full service. They can tune, fix or plain out build your bike. If you want group rides, talk to them about their rides. I will continue to shop here!

La Do Velo had some safety skewers in stock that I needed awesome staff answers phone even in the midst of a messy pandemy. Nuts! I had bought a beautiful sea foam green Raleigh pista, some years back and it was absolutely a beast on the road. Had a chance to have my son ride that bad boy and take er for a spin. He loved it! Staff are pretty helpful and customer service savvy and the mechanic shop is pretty helpful with tune up and maintenance service, too. Professional service and staff seem to be velo seasoned, as in velodrome racers from what I remember. Covid safe, large store, bike racks. Enso forever +- Cute and friendly dog walking around store! Covid safe. Lots of bikes. _It's that time!

Custom made wheelset and spotted and corrected too short hydraulic cable.

I discovered them when another shop got "de-certified" as a Specialized dealer and I needed a firm-ware update for an e-bike. Last year I wanted to upgrade my wheels for a Specialized Vado 4.0 SL e-bike. Specialized uses an industry standard on their rear wheels but not their front. I even called Specialized and they had no extra Roval boosted wheelsets through out the whole USA in 38mm (e-bikes require boosted hubs) despite having them on bikes that are available on models for sale. Doug made me a superb set with 44mm in the front and 49mm in the rear. He suggested using Sapim spokes and glad I did! I've put 4,000+ miles and never out of true. Absolutely bullet proof. Wanting to get back to an analogue bike and being on a limited budget I bought an old 2016 Trek Domane. It had an 11-28 cassette and a compact crank. I'm used to using a triple which are out of favor these days. An extender was added to my rear derailleur so it would take an 11-40t cassette. Much easier on my heart and knees! Then there was the wheelset that didn't fit . For several years Trek was using a front 15mm axle while no other manufacturers were. Again Upshift came to my rescue and suggested an axle conversion. Great consultation and execution! Bottom line: Outstanding mechanics that are knowledgable, competent and very fair on pricing. This bike shop is a marvelous asset for anyone that cycles!

7 speed cassette was really the place to replace

Last Sunday I was there. My bike had issue and needed to be fixed. I showed the issue to the person (a very young man). He took my bike and put it on his place. He immediately got to see the issue. But he told me that the bike needed to replace rear wheel and they didn't have the parts. He asked me to leave my bike there and pick it up once it's fixed. The cost was about $100. Since my bike was not totally dead and I decided to go to different store for possibly same day fix. I continued to a store off El Camino and they diagnosed it with different fix method. They said that the wheel is good, but the 7 speed cassette (see photo attached) needed to be replaced. Because they can replace it immediately, I decided to go with them. Took only about 10 minutes, my bike was fixed. The cost was less than $50. Based on this, I highly don't recommend La Dolce Velo.

Do you guys do trade ins? I have a Bianchi iseo 300 I believe 2023 Just curious

Hi! Yes, we do accept trade-ins using the Bicycle Blue Book platform for valuation. If they value it's used price at over $400, we'll accept the trade in. A warning, the value they come back with takes into account the time they'd spend listing and… Read more

Hi! Do you build bikes if not bought from you? If so how much to finish a partially built SE bike?

Absolutely we do. As long as everything needed to complete the build is there, this job is usually about $125. I sold the store in March, it is possible the new owners raised this rate. Call them to find out 408-244-8356 or email doug@upshiftsj.com

Do you have any Se bikes?

Hello Carlos, Yes, we have some SE bikes in stock with more to come. Please call or stop by for any more inventory questions. Asking through Yelp might take more time than you want for a response. I would not want you to miss out out on any SEs you… Read more

As other reviews mentioned, it's a small shop, but that meant I could chat with the technician while he worked and he could offer me various options. He replaced the rear inner tube and added a liner and sealant, plus added sealant to the front tire (I would've had him add a liner to the front tire, too, but he only had one in the right size). I'd never had the bike serviced since I bought it online 6 months ago, so he checked and tightened various loose connections. He showed me some basic maintenance procedures like how to lubricate the chain (easy when you know how, but as a biking n00b, I appreciated the lesson). If I need work done in the future, I'll be a happy repeat customer.

Because of the tighter space, it can be a bit difficult to see where the line to get help is and where people are just browsing. The staff here is not bad. They were really helpful to my friend who needed a piece removed off his bike. They were kind enough to give it a try even though it was going to be a tough piece to remove. They were able to do it and the staff was kind to not charge but we paid something for the help. Overall the place can feel a bit cluttered but they do a have a lot of bike options. The staff is kind but the layout does make it harder to know if you are in line or the person in front is just browsing.

I was in the market for some accessories for my son's bike and instead of taking the lazy way and ordering from Unca Jeff, I decided to do the right thing and support a local cyclery. And I'm glad I did. The Good: *Small private lot *Very convenient location if you live in Willow Glen or Cambrian. *Open seven days a week *Staff is super helpful and not pushy *Sell bikes and accessories, as well as bike maintenance and repairs. *I accidently bought the wrong type of rear bike rack** and I had already opened it and tried (unsuccessfully) to install it. I took it back along with the bike thinking I'd have to eat the cost of the rack since I'd already opened it, but they were more than happy to order me the correct one. Now that's customer service!! *Trade bikes for store credit *EXACT SAME PRICES AS AMAZON ON ACCESSORIES. I know that's hard to believe, but I checked, cuz you know... I'm a cheap-ass and am always curious, but yeah. The Meh: *No street parking on Meridian, but you can on nearby Blackford Ln. The Ugly: *Parking lot is a little tight, especially if you have a long vehicle and a hitch with bikes on it. Conclusion: Great little family bike shop with fantastic customer service. Highly recommended. **Be sure you know what kind of rear brakes your bike has either drum or disc when buying mountable accessories.
