I just purchased a new bike from La Dolce Velo and the experience was stellar! I want to give a big shout out to the owner, Robert and the 2 sales folks who spent time with me: Christopher and Daniel. I'm a real shopper and did alot of homework online before venturing out to test ride bikes. I'd taken my old bikes to La Dolce for tune-ups and was always happy with the quality, care and cost of the service. Because I was looking for a bike during the pandemic, there were some extra challenges. Not all shops were open, ones that were open weren't all offering test rides and those that were - not all were compliant with social distancing and cleaning practices. First and foremost I was impressed with La Dolce's staff - all were helpful, happy, accommodating, worked as a team and spent as much time as I needed to be sure about my purchase. Even if they were just answering a quick question and weren't my primary salesperson. Everyone wore masks and encouraged compliance with physical distancing. I test drove bikes at 5 other shops around the area and nobody else came close to insuring I got the bike that was best suited to my needs and that made me smile in a pandemic compliant way! I went here because it was the only local store with Bianchi's available. I was inquiring via email and Rob was very informative and responsive. I ended up going in here to purchase the bike and it was already setup on a trainer for a fitting. Rob is very knowledgeable and makes the store feel like a home. I needed to purchase pedals but the ones I wanted were on back order, Rob supplied a set of shimanos as loaners until the ones I want arrive. i took my wheel in for a truing. they said they can do it so I dropped my bike off. in a few hours they called me to tell me my wheel cannot be trued because it's is an oval and said that I should buy a new wheel from them. I said I've never noticed anything asked if they can true it to the best of their abilities; I'll just pay for regular truing cost as is. they said no and once again insists that I buy a new wheel from them. When I went to pick up the bike, the guy said my wheel is so messed up the spokes won't hold tension. I was shocked and said that's crazy I literally wrote it 2 days prior and said I'll take the bike back for now and think about it. I get out of the store jump on my bike only to find that they literally loosened EVERY SINGLE SPOKE on my wheel (no they didn't tell me). On my way out, I took it to a friend who laced it back up and I'm riding again. Is it perfectly true? no, but feels round, strong, and the forums all say what matters is tension and brake not rubbing so wtf. read more

La Dolce Velo has officially secured their place as my go-to local bike shop! I have brought my bike in a couple of times for different reasons; help with a build, post-crash inspection, and repairs. Each time they were able to see me in a timely manner while adhering to current COVID-19 safety protocols. Rob and his staff are extremely friendly, professional, and not once did I feel unwelcome/intimidated - if you're aware of road cycling culture, smugness tends to be common in some circles. Their service team was always equipped with the correct tools and expertise, and I think it would be safe to extrapolate that to their sales team as well. La Dolce Velo helped me build a surly pacer steel road bicycle in 2016. It has been four years (and at least 4,000 miles) and the bicycle still runs flawlessly with no maintenance other than my wiping the chain down regularly and lubricating it. I also slightly adjust the shifter cables once in a while. I purchased the steel surly pacer frame through this store and the mechanic, Doug, helped transfer my Shimano Ultegra crank and carbon handlebars from my Trek Madone. Additionally, the mechanics completed the build with Shimano 105 shifters, Shimano 105 front and rear derailleurs, and Shimano brakes. I came to this bike shop in May 2016 when my delicate snowflake of a carbon Trek Madone frame got damaged with a small crack in the seat stay. The owner Rob corresponded by email to help me identify the surly pacer as a more durable steel frame alternative (I was looking for durability for commuting purposes). The salesperson Abe helped guide me through a month long rebuild process which involved decisions like using Shimano 105 instead of Ultegra to save cost. Abe also performed a perfect fitment for my Surly pacer bike build. And Doug built the bike flawlessly. He still remembered this bike build after four years when I came into the shop to ask the mechanics to look my bike over for anything that needed servicing after four years --- their answer was nothing needed servicing. I also notice the bike store staff treating customers that walk in with a repair issue on a $100 Walmart bike with just as much respect and helpfulness as someone purchasing a $3,000 high performance bicycle. I wish I had access to a bike shop like this when I was in college and couldn't afford to spend more that $200 a year on cycling. read more

Quincey is the Man. He is friendly and gets to the point, and he is really for me why I absolutely will always try to work LDV first. I have purchased road bikes at LDV and I sold bikes to them. Everyone - Francois maybe - is super helpful and treats you like they want you to cycle. Good advise, thoughtful to your needs, and so fast and responsive. I came to La Dolce Velo with a friend based on many recommendations that they had great customer service. And, La Dolce Velo knocked it out of the park. I worked specifically with the owner, Rob, who was very kind, patient, and listened to all my concerns. He went over my wants and needs and what would be realistic within my budget. I wanted a road bike that could work in triathlons but for rides on the weekends as well. He was very kind in showing me the difference between the Tri and Road bikes, but I had my heart set on purchasing a road bike as I wanted the versatility. I spent almost 3 hours with Rob (testing the Bianchi and Cannondale models) and he was adamant that I test try and feel comfortable with the bike- mind you, never pressuring me to buy. To my surprise, I fell in love with the Cannondale and Rob helped me every step of the way. Rob went out of his way (A-Z) a long with the bike to find all the things necessary:the right pedals (I wanted to clip in and made sure they weren't too tight so I would get the hang of it), right shoes, H20 Bottle dispenser, you name it. He also fitted me to my bike with the utmost precision. I mean this guy is detail-oriented. He also gave me great tips on clipping in and out and mentioned that they have classes there to help folks clip in and out. I left La Dolce Velo feeling 1. Super excited to ride my bike 2. really happy I supported a Local, San Jose business 3. Thrilled that I knew I would always be taken care of w/ La Dolce Velo. Went in to have my chain and gear set checked since my chain was skipping gears. They made a slight adjustment to the rear derailleur location and the gears shifted like good as new afterwards. All was done in under 10 minutes and for free. read more

These guys are the best! Rob was amazing and treated me with SO much respect from beginning till end! I was there today and in a rush to get my bike done for tomorrow's ride. They couldn't do my ZIPPS' tubulars right away as it takes 48 hours. So what did they do? They quickly took care of the issues on my bike and gave me a set of demo ZIPPS to use in the meantime! WOW, right??! Another thing I liked was the fact that Rob took his time to answer all 110 of my questions, as well as explain the ins and outs of the different bike components. Rob also told me a lot of things I didn't know before about triathlons. I later found out Rob is this knowledgable because he is a triathlon coach and 4-time Ironman finisher. Well there you have it! La Dolce Velo (LDV)is the best bike shop in town! I've been a regular member of their Saturday morning shop rides since last year and have had quite a bit of repairs done to my old bike so I know that their mechanics are absolutely top-notch. After every shop ride, I would take in the sight of the amazing, beautiful high end bikes that Rob stocks LDV with. Yes, this is one of the few places in town where you will find Bianchis, Cervelos, and Pinarellos just waiting for you on the floor. These beautiful bikes finally got to me and I recently had a Cervelo R5 custom built by Rob's lead mechanics/wizards, Francois and Doug. The service and advice at every step of my superbike buying journey was impeccable. Rob is super knowledgeable and made sure that I was on the right size bike with the right size handlebars and the right groupset and the right everything, and the boys in the back did such an amazing job with this build! I'm still in shock that a bike can work so well and be so comfortable. I just did a 100K at the Cinderella Ride this past weekend and I surpassed all of my performance goals and was literally not uncomfortable ever in 4.5 hours of bike riding. Don't be fooled by those who say that performance is entirely up to the cyclist, the right bike makes a huge difference and LDV is the place to come and buy it (or at least get it fixed)! read more

While this review is way overdue, La Dolce Velo has earned my 5-star rating. On two occasions (Oct 2020 and March 2021), I had its techs perform repairs on my vintage 1980s-era Nishiki International road bike. I happened to have chosen La Dolce Velo because (1) I wanted to find a locally-owned/operated bike shop in my neighborhood and (2) I was not, repeat not, impressed with my experience at either the Summit Bike Shop or The Off Ramp Bike Shop, both in Santa Clara. The 1st time I took my bike to this shop was for a general once-over/tune-up as I brought it out of mothballs because of the Wuhan-virus shutdown of my local gym. The tune-up that was performed returned my bike to its glory and the tally for parts/labor was totally reasonable. The 2nd visit to the shop was quite the punch list as a result of a crash. The repairs/tune-up to the bike included a new drop handlebar and wrap, new brake covers, new gear set, new rear tire, new chain, re-truing the front and rear wheels, as well as refreshing the crank. Even though I remain off the bike for now (because of doctor's orders), the bike was ready 8 days after dropping it off. If you're looking for a family-owned/operated, well-appointed, neighborhood bike shop, I highly recommend La Dolce Velo. read more

Their second attempt to fix the noise also failed. It turned out it wasn't the tyres, but the rim tape. I had to make the 2-hour round trip a *third* time to find this out. The fix was just to replace the factory tape with tubeless. I don't know why they couldn't have done that the first time, and I don't know why the wheels on this $3k bike were so cheaply manufactured. read more

I got a bike fit here a couple years ago to help with a frame that was too small and the fitter was great and did what he could to help. This morning I went in to buy some rim tape for a new pair of wheels I acquired. For less than the cost of a roll of the tape they installed rim tape on my rim and I was on my way. Thanks! read more
