Remove the 'chain' from the phrase and you have a fitting summary of Upstream Brewing Company. The drought beer selection is hearty and the fried pickles are cooked well to a tangy crisp, yet the restaurant does not provide an experience that cannot be had elsewhere. That staff themselves not particularly excited to be working. More of a 'what do you want?' From the waitress/bartender alternatively to 'how may I help you?' Kind of attitude. read more

I will preface this by saying this is a food-only review. They may have great beer, I didn't have any, and in all fairness to them, they are a brewery. Hubby and I went out to eat here on a date night and were sufficiently unimpressed by the food. We had the calamari appetizer, mac & cheese with blackened chicken, and chicken fried chicken. New to Omaha, this is one of the first places we went out to eat. I have to say, we were actually shocked by the portion size. After finishing the appetizer, we didn't have much room left for our entrees. If I was surprised by the appetizer size, I was floored by the entree size. The chicken fried chicken was about the size of my face and the sides were ridiculously big. We could only eat half of our plates and the food was so bland that we wouldn't have eaten the rest as leftovers. I hate wasting food! The calamari was decent, the rest of the food just so-so. I think the too-big portions are a reflection of the lower quality of the food. The food is more expensive than it's worth. Parking was easy, good location, and the restaurant atmosphere is nice. More of a sports bar-type feeling and the see-through glass window to their brewing equipment is pretty cool. The server was nice. No issues there! I would be open to going back to try the beer, but would not order any food! read more

Went here for an early dinner and ordered a up of the Gouda and Ale Soup... OMG incredible! Best thing I've put in my mouth in years. Seriously this is a must if you like creamy and tasty soups. I also ordered the White Pizza which was lite and scrumptious. It had Garlic Alfredo Sauce as the base and then grilled shrimp and red onions. Fatabulous but I was so full from the soup that I only could eat one slice. It was paper thin crust too my fave! Oh and the Mango Martini is to die for. I slurped 2 down in 5 minutes. Dropped my friend's mother at the airport but her plane got cancelled so guess where we ended up late night, that's right... Upstream. This time we shared the Bread Pudding, again....WOW. It had a Caramel Bourbon like sauce... I'm a slaty girl and I don't have a sweet tooth but Jesus Christo this was heavenly. Also tried the Perfect Poma Rita but it was too sweet for my liking. I've been looking forward to an Omaha steak and hubby has been looking forward to some great beer all week. This is the place to go! There was a full page ad in the front cover of the Omaha guide book advertising beer and steak - - sold! We got there a little after five and got a spot right in front. It's all metered parking but at least the meters take cards and I think it was like a buck an hour. We were seated right away. The building is huge and spacious. It's really nice inside. Great for a brewery. The tables were comfortable and our server was really friendly. I ordered the New York strip which came with a salad and fries. My husband ordered the special which was a ribeye with roasted potatoes. They had a nice kid's menu and our peanut got the coveted chicken strips and fries (if he ever wants anything else I might just faint). I ordered a root beer and my husband ordered a Flagship IPA. The root beer is fantastic. Two thumbs way up! Hubby loved the IPA. I tried it - hoppy beers taste like sour grapefruits to me. I have determined that the more sour it seems to me, the more the hub will love it. This was high on the love scale. The dinners came out lightning fast. The steaks were phenomenal! Super tender, cooked to perfection. My salad greens were dressed in something super sour, but that's no biggie - I didn't go there for a salad anyway. My husband's meal was fantastic, too. The potatoes were tossed in some type of curry sauce. I tasted tabasco or Frank's sauce but the heat wasn't overpowering - it was pretty tasty. We tried a glass of the Nebraska IBL before heading out. That one tasted like coffee. Not bad. Again, the husband loved it. The steaks are a little on the spendy side ($28 and $33), but it was a nice night out. The steaks were fantastic, the beer and the root beer were great. We bought a growler of the IPA (only $14!) and went on our way. Next time we're in Omaha, we'll be back! read more

We've come here often, and were excited to stop by the patio while bar hopping with our dog since their gopetfriendly.com registration says they allow dogs outside. The hostess informed us "no restaurant in Omaha allows dogs within the rails" of the patio, but we just visited three places that welcomed our dog within the rails. To clarify, outside the patio rail means no dogs allowed. Please update your advertisement of being pet friendly to clarify no dogs are allowed so patrons don't walk a mile to visit only to find out that you aren't pet friendly. False marketing is never a good experience. read more

By far the fastest i ever had a NY Strip Steak ordered and delivered, they must have them almost done and just dress them up as orders come in. With more vegetables than you know what to do with and mash potatoes that could use a bit more of generosity from the chef. This is a short and to the point review, because we are in road and time is precious, we need to enjoy life, eating in good places like this is part of it. I can't speak to the food as I didn't get a chance to eat at this restaurant, but If you're going to allow reservations to be made and you close at 2pm when it starts to snow it would be helpful to call the people that have current reservations for that evening and let them know. It's slightly frustrating when you arrive expecting to have a nice dinner only to find out the establishment closed hours ago with no notice. Especially these days when things can be easily posted or a message sent to the email address used to make the reservation. read more

Service at lunch was so friendly and informative. I had the BBQ burger which was cooked perfectly, a delicious and flavorful beef patty. The BBQ sauce was also sweet but tangy and flavorful. The sweet potato waffle fries were a great side to accompany the burger. They sell some fresh made baked goods near the host stand. They all looked pretty good. Parking in this area isn't a problem, there is an inexpensive lot right across the street. read more

My family enjoyed our dinner at Upstream during a Memorial Day weekend! We ordered the pretzel bites as an app. They came out quickly and tasted great. My cheeseburger was great, cooked well and the guac that was on it was really fresh- the avocados were good. My daughter loved the mac n cheese and my wife loved the pot roast and mashed potatoes. The only downfall was that the vegetables for both my wife and my daughter were supposed to be steamed but came out raw. I tried their root beer they have on tap and it was really good! I attended a large group function at Upstream Brewing Company and I cannot rave enough about it! We used the downstairs party room and it was phenomenal. Once you got downstairs you had access to bathrooms and a bar so you didn't have to go back upstairs. We were provided with a buffet style selection of food that was amazing! First off I would do almost anything for their beer bread recipe as I had food poisoning from the night before and It was the best tasting bread I've ever had. The servers we had were so sweet and put up with a lot of shenanigans from a huge party of rowdy women. I cannot rave enough about Upstream. If I am ever back in Omaha, you can be sure I will be stopping here first. read more

Visited Upstream for the first time today. We we're greeted promptly and the drink orders came quickly. Try the root beer that is made on the premises. It's very good and not super sweet compared to standard sodas. The side salads we're plentiful and stocked with non iceberg lettuce. The antolline sausage pasta was great, spicy and flavorful. The ambience was comfortable for conversation or people watching in Old Market place. Consider this place over others when wanting a comfort food stop. read more

Dinner Review - For starters, I did eat - I had their small filet mignon, which was done exactly as I asked for it to be done, was seasoned properly, and absolutely melted in my mouth. This was the best filet I have had in at least 5 years. My laugh of the day was when I used the wrong words when I wanted to get a glass of their Pale Ale. I said "I'd like to try it." That got me a "mini-me" beer glass, that literally had my table in tears, they were laughing so hard. The glass was around 1 inch in diameter, and 3 inches tall. The upside is, you can try out a beer without paying full fare for something you end up not liking. I liked the Pale Ale. We came with a large party (at least 20+ people, with a reservation) and were seated promptly. When more people from our party arrived, rather than crowding us, the staff added another table **without being asked**. They moved very quickly. The service was good - everyone got what they ordered, which can be an ordeal with large groups. More importantly, nobody said anything about not getting their order cooked the way they wanted it, including the guy who ordered his steak rare. The wine selection was very good - we had a 2005 Hanna Cab that had a good nose, and tasted wonderful. All in all, a 5 Star evening. read more

Visiting from California, I was looking for a nice cool restaurant to duck into with my boys (9 & 6) to avoid the 100+ temperatures outside and enjoy a good meal. I was pleasantly surprised by the upscale of the restaurant. Located in the Downtown Market district this restaurant has white linen, uniformed wait staff, and a definite upscale feel. I immediately felt under dressed, until I looked around and the rest of the patronage was dressed as I was. Shorts, sandals, and a polo shirt was more than enough for lunch. I might dress a little better if I was coming to dinner and knowing what I know now. Kids menu was complete and the kids were plenty happy. The filet was cooked perfectly and was excellent. The cold beer went well with the meal. They have their own ales as well as some local brews that I recommend trying. They have a full bar and plenty of big TV's for the sports enthusiast and the air conditioning works well. If I was staying longer or possibly upon my return to the Omaha area, I will have to take my wife out for a dinner here. Excellent atmosphere and pretty good food. Cheers! read more

An awesome spot in downtown Omaha that I'd liken to BJ's back home, but with a bit more character in terms of the interior and a more expansive selection of brews. The 12-beer sampler called my name and before I knew it, I made my way through the entire line-up =D I especially liked the hefeweizen with its resounding banana notes and the seasonal winter warmer that exploded with cinnamon, nutmeg and cacao nibs. I can't speak much for the food, but my blackened salmon salad wasn't bad at all. A thoroughly enjoyable time overall and worthy of a revisit for some quality beer. read more

I've been to Upstream a few times and every time I go, the food is always great and hot. The service is usually pretty good; even though I had to wait one of the times I've been there for about 5 minutes before someone greeted me. The prices are in par for an 'upper-scale' restaurant and are pretty reasonable for the quality and quantity. They also brew their own beer. I haven't tried any of them, but I have been told the beer is good. All-in-all, I will be back at some point. It isn't my first choice in the great city of Omaha to eat at, but it's on the list. read more

My boss takes our department (under 10 people) to a "holiday" lunch in mid-December every year and we usually go here. The food is hit and miss with some but I find it pretty consistently good. The smoked gouda & beer soup is a must and I'd usually get the crusted tilapia or a sandwich such as the smoked turkey melt. The desserts are to die for - especially their bread pudding. I was visiting Omaha, and the hotel I was staying at recommended going to old town. So I took the shuttle and he dropped me off in the center of old town and I asked him for a recommendation for dinner. He recommended upstream brewing. So after I walked up and down the street, checking out all the neat shops. I was ready for a cold beer and something to eat. Upon entering it was very crowded yet. It was only 5:30 PM. The hostess recommended I go to the upstairs bar for a little more quiet time. I took her advice went upstairs and had the most pleasant experience that I've had in a while the bartender was very nice and then when I ordered my pizza, it was about a 10 inch or 12 inch pizza. It was brought out almost immediately to my surprise, and it was only half price. The pizza was delicious. The beer was cold and two dollars off. I would definitely return here if I were in Omaha check it out folks you won't be disappointed. read more

This is another one of those places we "end up" at rather than "go to". That being said, the food is not terrible - it's just not great. I ordered the lamb kabobs last night and my gf ordered the fried cod salad. The food arrived creepily fast but seemed hot and freshly prepared. She was a fan of her salad. This restaurant has a great environment--casual but well kept. The food is a hit-or-miss. The crust and sauce on their chicken pizza is amazing but the chicken is so dry that it is tougher than beef jerky. I am no chef, but I think searing the chicken and then adding it to the pizza would work better than baking it with the pizza (and letting convection pull the moisture out). More than likely, I will try this restaurant again, because it is a great place to hang out with friends and eat good food. read more

Food was really , really good! The Mac and cheese with blackened Cajun chicken and broccoli is the Bomb! Our waitress seem to be having a bad day and was quite short. Although she was on top of refills and getting food out, you could tell she was having a really bad day. Either the kitchen or she put our order in wrong for my daughters macaroni and cheese and the waitress saw that my daughter was not eating it took it off of our bill and apologized. We had dinner here tonight. Lovely area of Omaha. Weather was nice and we sat outside. My husband ordered the BBQ hamburger with slaw and I ordered the pork schnitzel with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. My husband said the hamburger was good but had no BBQ sauce on it and the slaw was very sour. My schnitzel lacked flavor, the vegetables were cold and I think old but the potatoes were good. Service was nice and we did express my disappointment with the vegetables. The place was fairly crowded with locals so obviously it's a popular spot. read more

First, this brewery is in a great location in a cool, old building. We sat at a pub table near the bar and the waitress was energetic, attentive, and friendly - just what you want in a server. We started with the pretzel cheese curds which were OK, but not as delicious as they sounded. For the meal, I got the fish and chips which were good, though not exceptional. But the real star was the flight of four beers. Three were excellent and the fourth was still quite good. Beers can be hit or miss at a brewery, so I was impressed. (My favorite was the red lager.) Overall, the ambience was great, the food was good, and the beer was excellent. I will definitely return the next time I'm in Omaha - but mostly for the beer! read more

What a great place! We were in Omaha 4 days and went here twice. The food was excellent and so was the beer. The Hot Artichoke Cheese Dip appetizer was AMAZING. They used their own house made seasoned beer bread to dip into the incredible dip. The staff was friendly and the food came very quickly. This was my first meal in Omaha, and of course, you have to have an Omaha steak! I chose a medium rare ribeye, my favorite cut of beef. I was surprised at how tough it was! Although perfectly cooked in the middle, I really needed to saw my steak while cutting. The NY strip steak I had earlier in the week in Houston was a MUCH more tender steak; knife slices were effortless. I was confused because usually a ribeye is more tender than a strip steak. Maybe it's because of the dry rub this restaurant uses? If I ever visit again, I would definitely recommend ordering without anything on the steak (except for salt and pepper) to try for itself, but maybe that's the Texan in me LOL. Not only am I giving two stars for the toughness of the second most expensive menu item, but service was molasses. It took about 10 minutes for the waitress to acknowledge my existence despite visiting all other tables around me. The whole process of ordering, receiving food, eating, and requesting the bill (took 10 minutes) took about 50 minutes for one person. I only spent about 20 minutes eating. I think this restaurant needs to realize the faster you can turn over tables, the more money you can generate! read more

We were in town for a volleyball tourney and were looking for a place to have team dinner on a Saturday night with about 25 people. Good luck during COVID, right? One of the team parents called numerous places without success. When she called Upstream they said, "We can figure that out. Let's do 7:30." They were able to seat us all upstairs at the back at multiple tables. They did a fantastic job keeping track of players and tabs. The service was perfect. My jambalaya was excellent and, as you'd except, they had a solid menu of beer choices. read more

This restaurant could not have been better. The space is gorgeous- there was something cool to look at everywhere you turned. We ordered the cheese curd appetizer that were pretzel crusted with a raspberry-habanero sauce. My parents and I agreed they were some of the best cheese curds we've ever had (and we're from MN and very close to the cheese curd capital of the world). I ordered the special mac & cheese which had andouille sausage and blackened shrimp. It was so good I wish I could have eaten it all but it was a heavy (still delicious), cheesy dish. I got a flight of 4 beers, my choice, that I think only cost $6 which was a steal! And for dessert my parents and I shared the creme brulee trio with three flavors of creme brulee that were all quite tasty. All in all, this brewery is fantastic and if I'm ever back in Omaha, I know where I'm headed first. read more

Killing time in my home town of omaha. Needed some adult time. This place sits in a old firehouse brick structure well decorated they have a master brew master that they most serve their own brews. Ask for a fat tire and no can do. They offer eight brews. Smacked on a grilled chickens and a outstanding cucumber salad. Crowded for a Saturday night. Parking was a bitch to find.
