Good food. Great beer I ordered the chicken with gnocchi. The gnocchi was undercooked but the flavor was great. Huge wedge of beer bread to soak up the sauce. My only real complaint is that I would have liked a side of the blue cheese mashed potatoes that advertised as a special but the waitress said they couldn't sell that on its own, it had to come with a steak dinner. Our service was impeccable from the front door to payment. The food was good as a whole. Two of us had the Salmon and opted to sub patatoes for the lentils, the fish itself was flavorful and cooked properly. The potato's I opted for were bland but the mushroom gravy I had was a good option. We also had the Jambalaya and my son LOVED it, and he was appropriately sweating after his meal. My wife had the Schnitzel and was really underwhelmed. The "garlic aïoli was good" was the comment after dinner. The veggie mix seemed like it might have been previously frozen. The bacon wrapped shrimp with cabbage and sweet potato shoestrings... AMAZING! Although I didn't have the steaks, they looked really good and not for a small appetite. I sat at the bar, the bar staff were friendly and efficient and all helped each other's customers. Went there with 4 people. Everyone loved their meal, I got the rib eye special -cooked medium rare. It's was slightly more red than anticipated but tender and delicious all the same. Someone else got the blackened chicken pasta which looked a lot like a everything Mac and cheese with sausage, green pepper, mushrooms, and maybe some other things. He said it had a surprising amount of siracha and had a bit of heat but he finished. Another friend for the rib eye special and another got the jambalaya. Update: Upstream contacted me after reading this review and looked into all the food that I ate while there. I appreciated that so I bumped them up to 3 stars. I still believe some of the food is lacking in flavor and brewery uniqueness. On to the bad. I got sick an hour after eating. On the toilet sick. Yuck! I had the pot roast. It was super tender, which was nice. The flavor or lack of wasn't great. It came with mashed potatoes which I thought were awful. A lady near me ordered the same and I heard her say "these potatoes are awesome". The potatoes were not awesome. I kept trying them to figure out what the flavor was and I just couldn't figure it out. The brown gravy they put over all of it does not taste good. The vegetables that came with it were okay, but lacked any kind of seasoning and were slightly overlooked and not because they were cooked with the roast, because they definitely were not. I think the chef needs to work on seasoning his dishes. Also, I get that this is Nebraska, but it's not a steak house. It's a brewery and the dishes should reflect that. A smaller portion and more gourmet or even some uniqueness would be the way to go with this dish. Hold the brown gravy, really! read more

Was looking coward to this cool looking restaurant in the Old Market. The food came out being... meh. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The Gouda grits had a good flavor that was overwhelmed by a huge amount of diced onions and peppers. The shrimp might've been good if they hadn't also been chopped up. The choice of chopping up shrimp for shrimp and grits is an interesting choice. I wouldn't recommend this dish at all. My child had the Mac n cheese. I'm glad I didn't order the adult version because it was the blandest Mac n cheese ever. It was like cavatappi in a yellow watery sauce. His french fries were good though. I "think" he was also supposed to get some kind of kids dessert like a little root beer float but the server never mentioned it. I didn't mention it because after our food we waited forever to get a check or a growler. The restaurant seemed to get way busier than their staff could handle. We brought friends from out of town here today and I didn't think that it was up to the usual mark. We had 2 hamburgers, black bean burger, & tomato soup. It felt like it took forever to get our food, even though the place wasn't even close to being packed. We really wanted to get root beer but they were out, so then someone asked about the pretzel bun only to find out again that hey we're out. Not a big deal so we went about our business. My friend asked for a coke after getting his first drink only to still not have it 20 mins later. When he asked the waitress again she said whoops give me a sec and took off. Still no coke so he asked her again a few minutes later and said forget it. I'll come back again but hopefully the service will go back to what I'm used to here. read more

The actual best falafel I've ever had. Seriously I've walked past this place 300x at least but because I'm not a big drinker I've never come in, but I went with a group of beer drinkers who chose this spot and I'm so glad they did! I ended up ordering a prickly pear type of martini that was fantastic, so fantastic I had more than one. We all shared the artichoke dip which was truly 10/10, super creamy and served with toast that was super rich with great flavor. And then there was the falafel.. I used to live in Omaha and visit about once a year. I only started going to this restaurant once I had moved, but now it's a must go whenever I come back. I am from out of town and my family used to come to Omaha every year and would eat here. We haven't got the chance to come up the past couple of years until this weekend and there was no debate on where to eat. My sister is a rootbeer fanatic and claims their rootbeer is the best she's ever had. We both got the Mac and Cheese and it was extremely impressive. Good portion sizes and averagely priced. This place is fine. Not great, but fine. I went twice on a recent trip because everyone else wanted to go there- once would have been enough. I had the mac & cheese on one visit which was tasty- very creamy & rich as a mac & cheese should be. The next time I had a dip that had pretzel bites, also yummy but not enough pretzels for the dip. My table tore through them. I also had their signature gouda beer soup- it was tasty enough. I think everyone can find something to eat here so I understand the appeal, but there are definitely better places to eat in town. read more

We ate here for dinner early on a Saturday evening and were seated right away. They do have options for outdoor seating that's "seat yourself". The noise level was average, especially considering Nebraska football was on! Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, and recommended a couple things based on our order. We had the fried cheese curds as an appetizer, and they were unique and delicious! The sauce was a habanero sauce, but wasn't that spicy. We ordered the burger with the cucumber salad and the blonde pizza with chicken. The pizza didn't actually come out with chicken as requested, but the waiter brought out a chicken breast layer to put on it and we were compensated on our final bill. The burger was nice and juicy, but the bun was a little too much bun, still delicious. The cucumber salad was unique and had red peppers and onions with a vinegar-based dressing. I stopped by Upstream early on a Saturday afternoon. Seating was available both inside and outside. While the indoor dining room was spacious, we opted to sit outside where each window box was full of plants/flowers and each table had an umbrella for shade. The beer flight was just ok. The appetizers were yummy. My favorite was the pretzel crusted cheese curds with BBQ dipping sauce. Our server was attentive and friendly. Came after walking around the Old Market for awhile looking for a place to eat and settled for here. Overall very satisfied, nice outdoor seating with a nice view down the road and plenty of shade. Very good server, the girl had a lot of tables, never stopped moving and yet I never felt like I had to wait for service. I had the fish and chips. It was good, better than most I've had. My only complaint is that the portion size seemed a tad bit small. Two pieces for $11 and not many fries. Still it was good and I was full when it was gone. The beer here is good. They have a lot of options, the two I had were the capital pale ale (cask conditioned) and the Maibock. The former wasn't very carbonated (I'm assuming because of the cask condition) but went down smooth. The later was all around good. I would stay for the food if it's happy hour, but if not, just drink some beer. The beer is much better than the food, but if you do opt for food, try the cheese curds with raspberry chipotle sauce. They are mighty delicious. My friend and I tried about 4 of their beers a piece, and they were all so good that it was hard to decide which one to drink. We both decided on the Quad for our first few, and I had the Scottish ale for my third. The IPA is also quality. After one beer a piece and the cheese curds, our bill came and it was only like $13. We had been planning to go to a different restaurant for a proper dinner, but when we realized it was happy hour, we looked at each other and said "How about one more Quad?" I enjoyed a great dinner here with a few team members. We had the calamari, deep fried cheese curds, and fried pickles to share. The cheese curds were probably my favorite out of all the appetizers we ordered and I was surprised by the fried pickles because I usually don't like pickles, but I enjoyed these. A lot of people at our table ordered and enjoyed their jambalaya. I ordered the 8oz filet medium and it was delicious. The mashed potatoes and whatever stew/gravy it came with was so good and they give you a good portion. Also had a red beer, I forgot the name, but also delicious. Ragu? I ordered the shortrib ragu with paparadella, which ought to be somewhat Italian, but I was tempted to ask for sour cream after my first bite. It was Beef Stranganoff with a little extra tomato. And the gravy was that corn starch-thickened stuff from a '70s supper club instead of a sauce built up from simmering. This is actually like my 5th visit to Upstream over the last several years, but I finally felt compelled to write a review. First and foremost, I believe Upstream to be HIGHLY overrated. Don't let the impressive size of both locations fool you into thinking the food is also amazing. It's very mediocre at best and lacking severely from a value standpoint. The basic things that I've had (pizza, burgers, misc. appetizers) were good, but not great. We ordered the BBQ Chicken Pizza and it was a super thin crust and I would consider a light appetizer....for $11.49. See what I mean?! Not a super great value. Their prices are slightly a bit more than other comparable restaurants and I believe that to be in part because they have high operating costs. Here's the thing. I don't mind paying for more if the food is genuinely better. (Think Plank, Blatt, Hiro, etc.) The atmosphere is not bad and the service is *usually* good so there's one star. The food is, as mentioned, very average. I've had worse, but I've certainly had far better. So there's the other star. So in summary, go here if everything else nearby is booked but don't let Upstream be your first choice. read more
