Not just for breakfast anymore! We tried dinner there recently and it was great! We ordered French onion soup and Caesar salad to start and had fried chicken and chicken parmesan for dinner. The ambiance was nice with candle light and sweet little flowers. Service was nice and quick. The chicken parm was enough to take home for a second meal and the French onion soup was wonderful!! The breading on the fried chicken was just right and the Mac n cheese and collard greens were standardly delicious. I'm impressed with their transition to dinner since there aren't many options out there for dinner around us thats nice enough but also kid friendly and it's definitely kid friendly I gave a 4 instead of a 5 since the courses came out too quickly and the service is a little amateur but super sweet and willing...just needs a little polishing. Once this dinner spot becomes more popular, I think the overall feel will get better. We will do our part to make sure it stays popular. Go try it for dinner! My family and I came on a Friday night around 6p. Not too busy and not noisy at all. Very nicely decorated and staff were extremely friendly and attentive. I had the Roast Turkey. Don't repeat my mistake -- waiting 13 years to eat at Uptown Cafe. It's become my new favorite place for breakfast and lunch on weekdays AND weekends. Lost 5th star -- looking like it's empty because of its location I know it's weird to start with the LOST STAR, but hear me out... ...for 13 years, I thought this place was barely in business, if at all. The columns in front of the restaurant and the almost always empty party room made it look like it was barely making it OR closed outright. The shopping center is half empty too, which doesn't help. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF PASSING THEM BY! Earned 1st and 2nd stars -- good food for breakfast and lunch I've tried several things on the menu since I started coming for breakfast about once a week. The special breakfast menu plates are hearty, and almost all of them come with really great hash browns. In particular, I highly recommend the pork chop, eggs and hash browns plate from the breakfast menu. I've also tried the biscuits and gravy, and the plate is just almost too much food. It's VERY GOOD biscuits and gravy, though, so don't pass it by. Eggs Benedict (the standard) are also recommended. The lunch menu is pretty robust as well, and they seem to have a variety of special menu items each day. Earned 3rd star -- decent service and prices The wait staff couldn't be any more efficient at a place like this. They have a few 2-top tables behind a fenced in portion of their storefront, and they also have a few 4-top tables right on the sidewalk in front of their large dining room and party room. The wait staff manage around a few dogs without a hitch, and we've never been turned away from bringing our pups (ALWAYS CALL, PEOPLE! BE COURTEOUS!). To sum up -- I'm embarrassed that I thought this place was nearly abandoned for 13+ years in this area. The shopping center could benefit from some sprucing up and additional retailers. Upon first review of the website, I immediately thought this was a more upscale, sophisticated restaurant with great prices, however the actual storefront is more whimsical and fun. Then I entered the building and was met with smiles and welcome from staff who wanted to seat me. Well, since I was meeting a friend, I spotted her and let them know that I was the other half of a party of two. My friend had already ordered a hot cocoa that had been delivered in a tall glass and topped with whipped cream - it looked great but she said that it was really sweet. I ordered coffee, which was good and I should have asked for the brand. Our food was great. My friend ordered pumpkin pancakes, which she loved and I ordered the typical eggs, frits, bacon and toast meal. It was really good, specifically the grits were great. I have been a patron of the Uptown Cafe for 5+ years now and I love the people who work there. The cooks consistently deliver a high quality breakfast, brunch, and now dinner. Forget iHop and Waffle House because Uptown is a step above with servers who know what Southern Hospitality is all about. Recently they have added Mimosas and Bloody Marys for brunch which is a nice touch for those looking for the complete brunch experience on the weekend. I am a HUGE fan of their Chicken Club Sandwich which would put most Country Clubs to shame. Uptown Cafe puts out a quality product time and time again. If something is not right they'll make it right because they appreciate your business. Around two weeks ago the Uptown Cafe began dinner service from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. I was skeptical that a great breakfast place could also pull off a solid high quality dinner. Curious I had to see what Uptown had to offer in the evenings and I was not disappointed. Last Tuesday evening I very much enjoyed a perfectly cooked New York Strip Steak with a Cabernet Demi Glacé sauce with scrumptious mashed red potatoes and asparagus. This place keeps going further downhill. Every time I come here now I feel bad that I did. The quality of the food is worse and worse, and the execution is trending in a similar direction. The last time I came the biscuits were cold and stale, the fried eggs were watery, and the grits tasted like creamed wheat. They were literally inedible. God, how I wish someone who cared would buy this place and make it good. We could really, really use a solid restaurant in this area, and this isn't it. They recently extended their hours to include dinner, but seriously? I can't imagine going here. It was all cooked perfectly and came it fast. The highlight was the fruit bowl my co-worker ordered. It wasn't the standard grapes, melons and a strawberry. I went back today. I was actually craving an old fashioned breakfast, I was lazy and didn't want to find something else. I also thought maybe the weekday staff would possibly be better. I was right. Unfortunately this super bleach blonde employee (I still believe to be the infamous Cathy) caught I'm walking out. She said, "are you a dancer?" I said no. She replied with a really hateful look on her face - "are you sure because you LOOK like a dancer." I'm a very curvy woman so I'm definitely sure she didn't mean a ballerina, especially not with the facial expression she was making. It was really clear to me that she was asking me, loudly I might mention, if I was a stripper. There were 2 people waiting to be seated, the girl checking me out, and tables sat with not far behind her. Everyone heard her. I was humilated. I was dressed in jeans, a bodysuit that showed some small amount of cleavage, a satin cardigan, and heels. I already threw away the bodysuit. I'm not putting down dancers in any way, I'm a feminist - women should be able to do whatever they want. But they shouldn't worry about going out to places and being called out loudly in front of a bunch of people over it. And that's what happened to me, and I'm definitely not a "dancer." Here it is, 3 days later and I'm still hurt and self conscious. I can't decide if I'm being petty or not, but it won't leave my mind. I like my body and I work out a lot and shouldn't be made to feel ashamed for it. It's actually made me self conscious. I finally decided, based on all the other reviews of this establishment that mentioned this woman, to call and make a complaint today. I spoke to the manager, Terry. To her credit, the shock in her voice was very genuine and she expressed that she was mortified and would make sure this never happened again. Based on all of the above, I will give this restaurant another shot. If not for any other reason to see if this has changed anything at all. The table that has 10+ are being waited on hand and foot. We got a blow by "all alright!" Not a question a statement. No asking if we needed anything else or why we weren't eating the bacon. Just dropped the check with no words and keep on waiting on others that you know. Superb service! Yes that was sarcastic. We will be back because the food was so good. We'll ask for a different server to be sure. Here's a tip for servers... a table of 2 if treated well will give you a bigger tip than a larger table. I can guarantee that from us at least. Another standard brunch place located in a brunch filled area, Johns Creek. We arrived at 12 PM on Sunday and got seating outside immediately. Because of this, I wasn't able to get the complete ambiance of this place. However, from what I got: the service was average, the seating was OK, and the environment from the outside reminded me of a hole in the wall in NYC. The food was good, just lacked the creativity of any sort. They had a large menu with a ton of options, which was great. Aside from that, standard items like pancakes, waffles, skillets, benedicts. I ordered the Uptown Busicuit with white cheese sauce, a biscuit, two poached eggs, and turkey eggs. It was tasty but didn't have any "oomph" factor. The star of the show was the cinnamon roll- sweet, hot, and so fresh.
