The Virginia ham on the Uptown Feast was a satisfying surprise.

9:30 on a Wed AM was a great time to arrive. No loud, disturbing noises- instead, a quiet background hum. Very peaceful and serene. My tea arrived quickly, water hot in a tea pot, making me feel peaceful as I steeped it, dressed it and then enjoyed it. The service was perfect; quick and responsive. Food arrived hot, offer of ketchup was made before I asked, and refill of hot water was perfectly timed. I look forward to returning to the Uptown Town Cafe.

Poor service. Showed up a little after 9am on a Friday. Not crowded. Seated with our menus. A couple came in, then another. They each waited almost 5 mins to be recognized, then seated. Meanwhile, we perused the menu and decided on our meals. Waiting on our server. She came into the dining area, handed one of the newly seated couples their menus, and took their drink order. We watched, expecting her to come to us next. Nope. She went to take care of their drink order. We voted with our wallet and promptly departed Uptown Cafe. No cheers! RS

VERY GOOD. I had the Chorizo Skillet with jalapeños added. It was very good. My over-easy eggs were cooked perfectly, and the biscuit was crisp on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. I sat at the front counter, and my server was great. The atmosphere is "neighborhood diner" with a cozy ambiance.

Food is very good; their coffee is great. Busy on Sundays. Never had a bad experience here. Recommended

I come to this restaurant often and I always get the same order. The up at 5, it comes with eggs your way ( I always do scrambled with cheese), bacon , 2 link sausage, 2 slices of French toast and silver dollar pancakes. I will sometimes get their grits , which are stone ground and usually yummy! Today I had water and coffee but I often get their orange juice which is fresh squeezed! This is a large meal and never disappoints. Today was no exception! Always great service!

A homey interior and feel with generous portions at a price to keep your wallet happy. I had chocolate chip pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. The pancakes are fluffy and HUGE. They did crumble and fall apart but could be easily scooped back up with some syrup! The bacon was oven-baked which gave it the perfect melt in your mouth texture that I personally love. Our waitress was nice and attentive. Made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us in a timely manner. I recommend trying them out if you're in the area!

My husband and I like to go out to breakfast occasionally. He is an awesome cook who typically makes breakfast each weekend, so our expectations are high when we go out. :). I had a combo plate - wow, lots of yummy items - eggs, pancakes, french toast and mmmmm BACON! I believe my hubby had some sort of corned beef hash. He really liked it! The waitress was friendly snd attentive. I can't believe we've never been here before (as we thought we'd been to every breakfast joint in the surrounding area near home), i am glad he found this location. We would definitely come back!

Was in search for a restaurant we haven't tried for breakfast before and found Uptown Cafe on Yelp. We arrived just before noon on a Sunday. The place was busy and packed. We were greeted immediately and gave them our name. We didn't wait long before they seated us. The restaurant is divided into three different spaces. We were seated in the space farthest from the entrance. I believe it's their overflow seating area as well as private party seating. The restaurant and its restroom were both clean. We ordered the following: Up at Five $9.19 3-2-1 Breakfast $7.49 Monterrey Omelet $9.69 Coffee (2) $2.89 I ordered the Up at Five and came with two X-large eggs any style, one slice of French toast, five silver dollar pancakes, two all natural applewood smoked bacon strips, and two sausage links. What more could you want?? Everything came out fresh and as described. There was so much food in one plate, I couldn't finish it all. My son ordered the 3-2-1 Breakfast. It came with three X-large eggs cooked to order, hash browns, stone ground grits and choice of toast or biscuit. He ate every bit of his breakfast and said it was delicious. The hubs got the monterrey omelet which came with spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and goat cheese. He thoroughly enjoyed his omelet. The coffee was good. We received excellent service from our waiter. He was friendly and attentive. Breakfast was inexpensive and portions were generous. Great spot, overall!

I'd come in for a drink after earlier day shifts, and grab a small bite on occasion. Back then, it wasn't ever busy but it has taken a positive turn for its reputation in the Avalon area. My husband and I ate here recently for brunch, I had no idea what to expect as I'd never had brunch here before. Sat immediately, and served promptly by the nice gentleman. We got to chatting and found he had just started, working mostly just for the holidays. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits, and they were incredible--even without the sausage! Not a big pork eater, here. The flavors were authentic Cajun, and do recommend it if you're ever here for Brunch. My other half ordered the breakfast burger--warning this thing is HUGE but according to him an incredible foodie adventure to conquer. Atmosphere is a bit dark and drab, but not a deterrence from coming back to try again. One last note to wrap it up, service needs to be sure to recognize Happy Holidays versus immediately resorting to Merry Christmas--very adamant from our server when I said Happy Holidays upon leaving. It's just a courtesy to those like myself who do not celebrate the mainstream holiday. So folks, if you're shopping at Avalon and want to get out of the cluster of the mall, drive across the main road and find plenty of parking to try out Firebirds!

If this is all you will enjoy here - this is a 5-star establishment. Location in Avalon is another strong point of this establishment. Super convenient, although small. Food - is just not good. If you are drunk - then it is all right, otherwise it just doesn't cut it. I had hot dog - and I must say $1.50 Costco hot dog is way better. Wings - below average. Chicken tenders - the same. Fries are probably the best thing here. Service - just terrible. Outside of bartenders who are pretty happy and funny, the rest of service is hit or miss. First time I visited was awful. Second time around I had to walk up to server to place an order and ended up getting wrong beer multiple times on refills (how is getting the same refill a problem?). So 3-stars for this review is me being generous on account of great beer. I will however never order food here again.

The food was mostly great -- the French onion soup was flavorful, and the calamari had a good spicy kick. The mac and cheese was so good with that crispy breading on top. The steak and asparagus were cooked well, and the sweet potato fries were tasty, though a little too sweet -- they really don't need extra sugar. The mashed potatoes had good flavor but could've been a bit creamier. The martinis were good. The water had a strange taste, the Sprite tasted more like 7UP, and the glassware was a bit sticky, which was noticeable. Overall, good food, friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere. I finally got to attend this place and always wanted to try it since I moved to the Atlanta area…read more I've heard nothing but great things about it. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. It's a beautiful restaurant inside meaning it's good for a date, a night out with friends or family, or a great place to celebrate for a prom or graduation. It's more upscale than a traditional restaurant however I loved it! I came here with my business coach since I won a competition and the prize was to have lunch at the place of my choice. She ordered the soup of the day, which was like this cheddar soup that came with these two sauces, which one of the sauces was a jalapeño based sauce, which was spicy, but not too spicy to wear it wasn't edible. She did like her soup and she also ordered the lobster and smoked Gouda ravioli for her entrée. She had no complaints considering she bagged the food up to go and wanted to finish it right there, but she couldn't. Lol. I ordered the twin seared chicken, which is actually half a chicken pan seared. My chicken was so delicious! It was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection to where it was fall off the bone. Just how I like it! The rice and the green beans paired well with it. My rice was cooked well, meaning it was not mushy or hard. And my green beans were a great consistency as well. My little one had a chicken tender salad since she loves cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, pretty much anything that comes in a salad that's not the lettuce. Lol. I must say I was impressed by the size of the salad because it was huge for a child. It would be great as a size salad for an adult. The chicken tenders were an amazing size, bigger than what most restaurants would give especially for a child's plate. I was highly impressed by the size of the portions for the children because the price is pretty standard for a kids meal entrée in comparison to other restaurants that give less. Our service was awesome! I wouldn't expect anything less considering the ambience of the restaurant. Our server was attentive, and he even bagged up both of our meals for us. This place is a 10 out of 10 and yes, I will be frequenting this restaurant a lot more in the future, even if it's by myself to sit at the bar.

Honestly everything about the place is pretty on point, it's an upscale restaraunt with alot of exposed wood, spacious, well thought out originally. The staff has always been corteous and knowledgeable, the menu always a great diversity (main courses, salads, starters - you name it, always slightly original and inspired) Personally though, it's more of a 'bring a date spot' eating in the dining room (cozy setting) and the bar is a dark area. During covid they removed the patio, so there is actually no outdoor seating anymore. I think that's why I most find myself not going there - is the dining and bar areas aren't super to my liking, I like bright and airy feeling venues. But they do have some live music and specials every day during the week that do make it appealing to be here different days otherwise which is brilliant marketing.
