i brought clothes in and was exactly what they were looking for and good brands too, they took 4 things out of 4 big bins. they also told us to stay in the store and wait 15 minutes; 15 minutes go by so i ask because i see that they're done looking through my clothes and i have to go to work. they had the receipt printed and it was ready to go but they told me to wait another 15/20 minutes while they looked through other people stuff. we've been here for 30 minutes now and they tell people to stay in the store, smart to have a ton of people in the store because of covid. the clothes they were selling inside weren't even cute, probably because they only take a 4 things out of the 40 items you bring in. read more

rip off. save your time. i really wanted to like this place and i was so excited to make some money, until i came in and tried to sell stuff. i brought in four dresses, which i payed about 20-60 dollars for each, $150 doc martens, and $250 Jordan 1 shoes. and they really tried to give me $27 for my $250 Jordans..... like is this company for real... and tried telling me the price was so low because it was youth/women's size (which fits a women's 8.5) i was like yeah no and took them back. i ended up with getting $31... they gave me like $10 for my $150 doc martins... what a joke... read more

All I have to say is if you choose to sell here, make sure you know exactly how many items you brought in, and exactly which items you brought in. The Buyer called me up when she was done looking through my things and explained they took 6 items, and were giving me back a pair of denim. I brought in 11 items total so what she was giving me + what she said she was paying me for simply didn't add up. They also didn't have my jeans in the bag I brought them in, so I asked the Buyer if I could have it back. It seemed as thought she wasn't going to be able to "find it" for a moment and then found it sitting right under the register counter, completely out of sight from where I was standing. When she held it up to give it back to me it had 4 of my items in the bag. Ones that were not "bought" by the store. Apparently they wouldn't have given them back to me if I hadn't asked for the bag. These were gently used Free People and Anthropologie items, so worth a good deal of money. I used to really like selling here, but after this experience I do not recommend as I don't trust the staff. A bit sketchy to me that these items were still in my bag but out of sight. If you choose to sell your items here, make sure you ask them to show you what they're taking, and check your bag of returned items to make sure it all adds up. I bought a t-shirt for $9.99 at one of their stores only to find out that there was a small hole in it when I got home. I went to return it at another location and they declined my return. I was well within the 14 day return period with original tags and receipt. There is nothing posted anywhere about only being able to do returns or exchanges at the location you purchased at. I find it hard to believe that they can't accommodate this because "their system doesn't allow it". I will not be shopping here any longer. No wonder they have so many negative reviews! read more

I can't rave enough about this place, my sister's & I have found the most incredible things here. I once found a pure Italian leather biker jacket, just the most classic look you could think of (gorgeous), for $20. Just like with any thrift or 2nd hand store, you have to be patient & really look for the best finds, however... Uptown's unique computer system ensures an incredible selection & it's obvious every time I go. Another thing their system ensures is a fair purchasing system, I get so tired of the random witchiness that comes from other second hand stores. So gross right when you walk in, smells awful. I brought my stuff and they didn't take one single thing. The kid buying was a moron. When I go to crossroads I get $500 trade and for them to not take one item they obviously are dumb. I only have designer stuff like free people, BCBG, Vince, high end. They sell old navy! I typically NEVER write bad reviews but I guess there is a first time for everything. I came in to uptown cheapskate this afternoon to find a cheap jacket for my trip to Texas tomorrow because I was told it is extremely cold this time of year. I didn't find what I was looking for and just decided to browse. I ended up just buying a perfume and a shirt. The perfume was less than 15 bucks I believe and the shirt was like 5 bucks. When I go to check out BRIANNA asked me if my number was on file and I said idk and just gave her my number and she said it wasn't and asked if I wanted to and I said no because I don't plan on exchanging or returning anything. Mind you the entire time she had a little attitude. I just brushed it off because I never really pay any mind to people if they aren't bothering me or just try to think like maybe the person is having a bad day. I handed her my credit card for my purchase that was under 20 bucks. She asked me for my ID and I told her I didn't have it. THE PERSON IN LINE BEFORE ME WAS NEVER ASKED FOR ID OR A PHONE NUMBER FOR HER PURCHASE! I told her she could run it as a debit. ( I just brought my debit card and left my purse in the car because I planned on going in and out.) she said she needed my ID to match the name on my debit card in case someone reported the card stolen? Excuse me? I've been to this store many times before and never once was I EVER asked for my Id and every time I come I spend at least 200-300 bucks. Being a young African American female I took offense to that and explained to her I've never been asked for an ID and she had the nerve to argue with me about it while she was running my card rolling her eyes and giving me dirty looks. I have never been so disrespected by anyone in any retail establishment ever in my life! If you're reading this and you're a person of color GO ELSEWHERE! My hubby and I went shopping together at Uptown Cheapskate and found tons and tons of amazing, high end clothes for super cheap! Most of them looked brand new. They have a huge selection of mens and Womens clothing and accessories. The staff was very helpful, offered to put our clothes in the dressing room and let us try on as many items as we wanted. I always find the perfect, softest summer dresses here. I bought clothes here during my birthday month, so I got 15% off which was a nice little bonus. Walked in and the first thing I noticed was the foul smell of moth balls that smacked me in the face. Didn't need to look around long enough because the choices are tasteless and poor. It seems as if the employees are more concerned with talking to each other instead of doing their job. Very unprofessional, and very poor marketing strategy if you ask me. Monday morning after super bowl. Appears the associates working in the morning really didn't want to be there or they really don't line their job. My first time here and it was a waste of time. I am a regular seller at multiple locations and had 4 tubs of clothes for the associate to look through. Not one items selected, no big deal except that by the third bin he was over it!!! Never went through it entirely. And after dropping off the 4th tub I was told they don't take more than 3 each visit. He barely acknowledging my existence. He also was not eager to help a customer actually buying an item. I watched the young lady who did help the older customer give attitude upon a simple customer mistake about change. How rude! As a business owner I would say it's time for these two to find a job they are happier at. There are so many young people who would really appreciate working here. It completely reflects on the store. I will definitely never go here again nor will I recommend this store to anyone. Good luck with these two. I'm guessing that's why there are way too many bad reviews. Or it's the owner doesn't care. Don't waste your time. Well if you noticed on the comment it wasn't about what your employee didn't want to buy. It was about the attitudes and general not caring about the customers. Basically that's what makes your business successful is employees genuinely caring about the customers. Also based on what you are saying about the used items acceptable to get any purchase is basically new from mall stores. Why wouldn't the customers return the items to the original store instead or reselling at a deep discount. I am writing this review after having been in this store at least five different times. Every single time I have been in here, no one has greeted me, never said a word. Every time I have felt like I wasn't wanted in there. Just not good vibes. As for the clothes, they are RIDICULOUSLY priced for second hand clothes. I prefer Crossroads in Irvine or Costa Mesa. Hell, you are better off going to Goodwill right across the street. The only reason why I gave two stars (and I don't even think that this store deserves that many) is because there is a shit ton of clothes in that store. So many that it is totally overwhelming. Rude teenagers with no work ethic or knowledge of current fashion offering insultingly low prices for things. I tried to sell an authentic Prada bag to them and they offered me $10 for it (it had the $1500 price tag on it). New with tags current items get rejected simply because the people inspecting them don't like them....also they make rude remarks like "I could NEVER sell this!" about stuff. Edit: regarding the owner's comment, I brought my bag in to sell because they were showing a LV Speedy for sale on their Instagram- I was under the impression they sold higher end items. I heard about this place from a friend, and decided to check it out one day. It was a nice little thrift store place. Sometimes I felt that the clothes were a little pricey for being secondhand clothes, but you just have to really spend your time in here to look for a good deal. For example, I got a very nice velvet top in here (it was in excellent condition thankfully) for $12, which is not bad at all if it was brand new. Since it's used, I would have preferred to get it for at least $5 or $7. Anyways, it was cool for a first time experience in the store. They do have a variety of clothes here so I'm sure people will find something here they like in their size. They do have some clothes on clearance here if you're interested in cheaper prices. Welp... I heard of this place and wanted to give it a try. To look around and to try to sell or exchange clothes. As for selling: NOT THE PLACE YOU WANT TO GO. Me and my sister had 2 bags full of great clothing especially my sister she's the fashionista here and had some great quality stuff from different brands. Yet they didn't take anything and said it was outdated. To be honest the stuff in my bags were more up to date than what they had on the racks!! And as for pricing well i thought we would find better deals and it's priced as much as forever 21/Charlotte Russe. The first time I came here was a few days after they had opened. Upon finding out that an Uptown Cheapskate opened 15 minutes from my house, I threw on my boots and booked it out the door to check it out. I had been to one in Salt Lake City while visiting a friend and, after 4 hours of shopping and trying on heaps of amazing stuff, she literally had to drag me out. So needless to say I had high expectations. I've stopped in here a handful of times (usually with my best friend when he's in the area) since that first visit, and each time I have the same experience and typically leave empty handed. I've only bought one shirt here out of the times I've been in. First off, the store is confusingly set up. It's very difficult to shop because of how it is organized. The sections just don't have any kind of flow or reason to them, and I wish the sizes were more clearly sectioned and labeled for easier access. I am not sure if they have a merchandiser, but they should really get one or hire a new one. Shopping the bottom bars of clothing is severely annoying because they are so low...especially if you're wearing any kind of heels. Second, the selection never wows me at all. Unlike the store in Utah, their selection is extremely junior. The size selection is a reflection of this. This is a great place for 12 year olds who shop at Wet Seal and Hollister and wear XS and S in F21 cast-offs. There is very little to no upscale clothing, except for jeans. Even then, if you wear anything over a size 26, its slim pickkins. The selection of shoe sizes is also very limited. The majority are 7 and 8's. I wear a 9, a very popular and common size, yet their section of 9's is one row max (same for 10's FYI). From my experience most of the shoes are either new (bought for the store) or are F21 and the like. I did see a couple Jeffrey Campbell's on one occasion, but they were priced a little high for the condition and style IMO. Their accessories are hit and miss. The majority of them are new, and not particularly high quality or unique, so you're unlikely going to find any deals here. Their men's section is actually pretty decent though, however much smaller than the women's (which is to be expected). It seems like the pricing for the mens is much more reasonable than most of the womens. My best friend always leaves with a bunch of stuff. The staff seems really young and are usually more interested in gossiping with each other (loudly might I add) than anything else. There is one guy (who, I think, is one of the floor managers) that is really cool and friendly and the only employee, in my experience, who seems to care that customers are in the store. All in all this store is let down for me. I feel like this store isn't maximizing its potential. This is the only buy/sell resale clothing store in the area and it's such a shame it's kind of stuck itself in this tween neon-colored, mustache print pigeonhole. read more

Mixed feelings about this place so I'll break it down simply. I was hesitant about coming here because of the negative reviews I read here but I decided to give it a shot. Selling: from a sellers standpoint I think they need to explain the "no thank you's" in greater detail because I had Marc Jacobs clothing, never before worn black pumps (which I thought would be an easy sell), and some other really nice clothing pieces that were brand name. Some still with tags on! I brought in 4 bags of stuff and went home with 3 of them. I looked through the items they didn't accept and was confused why. All of them were in season, trendy, good quality, and well taken care of. Anyways, it's their store so I guess they can choose whatever they want. But I do wish I didn't have to wait so long only to return home with almost everything I brought in. Then again, I know it must've took awhile to look everything. Also, when I looked around in the store- I definitely had some nicer pieces than what was for sale but it's ok. To each their own right? Buying: while I was waiting I had the chance to look around. A lot of forever 21 clothing which is fine because I love their clothes. BUt, the prices were almost exactly the same as a brand new item from f21 so I do think they are asking a bit much for their USED clothes. I understand That from an economical standpoint they need to have a certain profit margin and upkeep and rent for the store needs to be met monthly but I do think they would sell more items if they lowered the prices. Then customers and owner would be happy. I've been to many thrift shops and this store is definitely in the higher end for prices. I had to reconsider my purchase when three USED tops came out to almost 50$ that's outrageous. I can go to TJ MAXX at that rate. Customer service: I actually had a good experience- they greeted me and were very friendly. Appearance: store was kept in good condition. Everything was organized and color coordinated which was nice. I would consider coming back again but I would definitely not being ALL my clothes to sell. That's a shame tho because I do think they would've been able to sell a lot of my items that were in great condition and barely worn. But that's ok- I'll take it to another thrift shop. read more

I usually go to the Fullerton location but I decided to try this one out today. I didn't have a bad or great experience. The store did smell weird as another reviewer commented, but it didn't prevent me from shopping. The selection was okay at best. A lot of the clothes had stains or rips so pay attention when you're shopping. Prices average about $8-$10 for a basic shirt (Forever 21/H&M quality), $10-$20 for a jacket, $7-$15 for skirts/shorts, and $15-$25 for a pair of shoes. With the way the prices work, you're not going to make much as a seller (and they're really selective), but that's too be expected of this chain. Go to Crossroads or even Buffalo Exchange if you want to make more and find higher-end items. I thought the employees were decently nice if you initiate contact with them. If you don't, they don't really pay attention to you. I wasn't greeted when I went to sell or when I went to the dressing room. I just stood there for a minute before asking the guy if I could go in. The girl at the register was cordial but she didn't make conversation by any means. Just average customer service. This place isn't bad, but the customer service and selection is a lot better at the Fullerton location so I'd recommend trying that one out. read more

Advertising and a sign in the window should say, " We're just being extra picky right now," instead of. "We want your clothes!" I cleaned out my closet of several designer clothing items including, rag and bone, Joe's jeans, Hudson, Jen Barry is other items from Nordstrom and other similar stores all clean and in excellent condition, many with the original tags still on them. When you go on their website and click on the tab to see what friends they're interested and now it take you to an empty page ad has been that way for over a year now it's far as I know probably more. However, having been there and successfully sold there before I was fairly certain that my items we're on trend in great condition and what they were looking for. When I arrived iPut my items on the counter all three employees were behind the counter at the other end talking. I know they saw me but no one said anything I sat there for a little bit until I said hello at which point the manager Tiffany said oh did you sign in on the iPad I said no and signed in on the iPad. I looked around and found some items that I would probably have wanted to buy, but when Tiffany called my name she told me that she was giving me $12 store credit or $10 cash for two items. I said that interesting because most of that stuff was good brand in great condition. Her response was, "Yea we are just being extra picky right now because we have a lot of inventory." My first thought was, had I known that, I would've gone somewhere else. Because the sign in the window and everything on the website says we want your clothes now. Not, "we are being extra picky right now because we have too many clothes as it is." I am at single mother with a full-time job and I have to move soon. I spent the entire day cleaning out my closet and out of all the consignment stores in Orange County I chose uptown cheapskate because in the past I've had success there and it's closer to my home than crossroads. Had I known they were being extra picky I certainly would've gone somewhere else where they would choose a more than two items for $10. I asked to speak with a manager and was told they were out of town. Tiffany, the one who said they were being extra picky, told me that the manager is the one who has been getting on her about buying too many clothes. Again my complaint is that they are actively advertising how badly they want to buy customers clothing when in reality, according to Tiffany, they already have more clothes than they can handle. I can assure you that the clothes I brought in were carefully selected based on the brand and quality, and what other confinement stores in the area have listed on their website site that they are currently buying, since uptown cheapskate does not have that info updated on theirs. What a complete waste of an afternoon for 10 lousy dollars. I spent more money in gas driving there. read more

All the employees do here is gossip about how much they hate other members of the staff. Went in to sell & went back up front when called. They made eye contact with me multiple times, but would ignore me even if I started to say something because their conversation was more important than the customers. Keep in mind, I was standing two feet away, looking directly at them, but they couldn't be bothered. They also didn't want my once used Nike jacket in great condition, a designer 'picnic' dress from this season, or Calvin Klein jeans, but took my old faux-flannel from middle school. It was my first time going here awhile ago and I'm definitely coming back. They have my size which is xs (which is a plus); not only a few pieces but a whole lot - racks and racks of clothing that actually fits me. Everything is organized which makes it easier to go through the clothes. The prices are okay as well in my opinion. Some clothes are even brand new and they're selling it half the original price. Customer service was great! They were able to answer questions and help me with stuff. They were all friendly there so I don't understand how some people complain about their workers.
