I have to agree with a lot of the reviews on here. I went there yesterday for the first time and it is a really cute store and I like the way it is set up. However, like everyone here some of the clothes are a bit over priced for used clothing. I almost gave in and bought a pair of jeans for $24.00 but thought - WAIT - that is full price at Target, so why not go there and get new ones? Some of the stuff is cute but you would need to spend an entire day in there to find the deals and I simply don't have the time. The employees were nice but not very helpful, did not greet us and I had to go find someone to help. Maybe I'll go back one day but not in the near future. read more

I heard about this place from a friend, and decided to check it out one day. It was a nice little thrift store place. Sometimes I felt that the clothes were a little pricey for being secondhand clothes, but you just have to really spend your time in here to look for a good deal. For example, I got a very nice velvet top in here (it was in excellent condition thankfully) for $12, which is not bad at all if it was brand new. Since it's used, I would have preferred to get it for at least $5 or $7. Anyways, it was cool for a first time experience in the store. They do have a variety of clothes here so I'm sure people will find something here they like in their size. They do have some clothes on clearance here if you're interested in cheaper prices. Customer service was not bad. Parking was great. Overall, I might come back just to browse around. read more

This place is insanely awesome for used clothes--whether it's for girls or guys. I can always find something and it will be an awesomely low price. I like the fact that they have an area for new items and the rest of the store is used items. As far as selling here, I've had the worst luck. If it's not "stylish"--aka from Forever 21, Brandy or H&M--then they don't want it. I wish there was more of a mixture of style here. This would be a killer spot for used clothes if I actually shopped at those stores.... Lastly, the employees are annoying. They're all in high school (I assume from the way they act) and gossip the entire time you're either getting rung up or selling your clothes or shopping. I usually go to the Fullerton location but I decided to try this one out today. I didn't have a bad or great experience. The store did smell weird as another reviewer commented, but it didn't prevent me from shopping. The selection was okay at best. A lot of the clothes had stains or rips so pay attention when you're shopping. Prices average about $8-$10 for a basic shirt (Forever 21/H&M quality), $10-$20 for a jacket, $7-$15 for skirts/shorts, and $15-$25 for a pair of shoes. With the way the prices work, you're not going to make much as a seller (and they're really selective), but that's too be expected of this chain. Go to Crossroads or even Buffalo Exchange if you want to make more and find higher-end items. I thought the employees were decently nice if you initiate contact with them. If you don't, they don't really pay attention to you. I wasn't greeted when I went to sell or when I went to the dressing room. I just stood there for a minute before asking the guy if I could go in. The girl at the register was cordial but she didn't make conversation by any means. Just average customer service. This place isn't bad, but the customer service and selection is a lot better at the Fullerton location so I'd recommend trying that one out. read more

All the employees do here is gossip about how much they hate other members of the staff. Went in to sell & went back up front when called. They made eye contact with me multiple times, but would ignore me even if I started to say something because their conversation was more important than the customers. Keep in mind, I was standing two feet away, looking directly at them, but they couldn't be bothered. They also didn't want my once used Nike jacket in great condition, a designer 'picnic' dress from this season, or Calvin Klein jeans, but took my old faux-flannel from middle school. I understand having different tastes and accepting different items, however employees should not purposely ignore customers. read more

Advertising and a sign in the window should say, " We're just being extra picky right now," instead of. "We want your clothes!" I cleaned out my closet of several designer clothing items including, rag and bone, Joe's jeans, Hudson, Jen Barry is other items from Nordstrom and other similar stores all clean and in excellent condition, many with the original tags still on them. When you go on their website and click on the tab to see what friends they're interested and now it take you to an empty page ad has been that way for over a year now it's far as I know probably more. However, having been there and successfully sold there before I was fairly certain that my items we're on trend in great condition and what they were looking for. When I arrived iPut my items on the counter all three employees were behind the counter at the other end talking. I know they saw me but no one said anything I sat there for a little bit until I said hello at which point the manager Tiffany said oh did you sign in on the iPad I said no and signed in on the iPad. I looked around and found some items that I would probably have wanted to buy, but when Tiffany called my name she told me that she was giving me $12 store credit or $10 cash for two items. I said that interesting because most of that stuff was good brand in great condition. Her response was, "Yea we are just being extra picky right now because we have a lot of inventory." My first thought was, had I known that, I would've gone somewhere else. Because the sign in the window and everything on the website says we want your clothes now. Not, "we are being extra picky right now because we have too many clothes as it is." I am at single mother with a full-time job and I have to move soon. I spent the entire day cleaning out my closet and out of all the consignment stores in Orange County I chose uptown cheapskate because in the past I've had success there and it's closer to my home than crossroads. Had I known they were being extra picky I certainly would've gone somewhere else where they would choose a more than two items for $10. I asked to speak with a manager and was told they were out of town. Tiffany, the one who said they were being extra picky, told me that the manager is the one who has been getting on her about buying too many clothes. Again my complaint is that they are actively advertising how badly they want to buy customers clothing when in reality, according to Tiffany, they already have more clothes than they can handle. I can assure you that the clothes I brought in were carefully selected based on the brand and quality, and what other confinement stores in the area have listed on their website site that they are currently buying, since uptown cheapskate does not have that info updated on theirs. What a complete waste of an afternoon for 10 lousy dollars. I spent more money in gas driving there. read more

I needed some cash and had some old clothes lying around so I figured I'd sell them. Originally, I planned to go to Buffalo Exchange but found this place and ended up here since it was much closer to me. The girls at the counter were BEYOND helpful, and very sweet. While one was digging through and pricing my clothes, the other was walking around the store trying to help me find a shirt for my new pants. They only took two of my items from a large box which was disappointing as mostly everything was in pretty good condition and could still be considered stylish. The store, however, is chock full of Forever 21 and the like. Literally rows upon rows of the same sleeveless, button down shirt that was super trendy a month ago. Basically OC girls buying the hottest items, wearing them twice before they go quickly out of style, and then dropping them off here. My clothes were not privy to this category. It was my first time going here awhile ago and I'm definitely coming back. They have my size which is xs (which is a plus); not only a few pieces but a whole lot - racks and racks of clothing that actually fits me. Everything is organized which makes it easier to go through the clothes. The prices are okay as well in my opinion. Some clothes are even brand new and they're selling it half the original price. Customer service was great! They were able to answer questions and help me with stuff. They were all friendly there so I don't understand how some people complain about their workers. For normal people this place is a good price, for actual "cheapskates" I don't think much is a good deal at all. The shorts were 11.xx+ Shoes $29.99+ etc. they also had Tory Birch inspired by jewelry for $20.00!!!!! This jewelry i s$1.00+ online and it just totally rubbed me the wrong way. However the girl working seemed nice and professional. I would't recommend this store since Ross has cuter clothes next door, they're new, and if you change your mind they'll give you your money back. I brought clothes that my 20 year old daughter had to sell. Nice stuff! Barely worn! No stains. Some stuff with tags still on it. When I came in the young girl, probably 16, said it would be a 25 minute wait. I said okay and started looking at their clothes. They had many of the same items my daughter wore. Within 5 minutes the girl called my name and said they could not take any of my items. Wow! Nothing? Yet the whole store has the same garb but in worse shape. Tt was my first time in there. stay away from Megan, extremely rude and obviously no experience with customer service or with fashion. Store was very busy. Today was a reminder that I need to take a long break from this store...perhaps give Jo Ann some time to hire a more mature group. What the teens working there lack in professionalism, they more than make up for in attitude and poor work ethic. I came in today, 10/23/20 around 2:00pm, and brought two large tubs of clothing. Right in front of me the two girls hurriedly pushed around some of the clothes in my bins - didn't even bother to take them out of the bins or look at them - and after roughly 3 minutes decided "they didn't find anything." Well of course not! How could they? They didn't bother to look. I wish they would have just told me upfront they weren't interested in taking the time to process my items - don't waste my time. They were so dismissive and disrespectful. It was clear they were annoyed with me for interrupting their conversation. I've been coming to this store for years now, and while I've always tolerated the gossiping, the lackadaisical pace when processing buys - but today was too much. As I was leaving I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to donate my items to them...when I said no thank you, they started not so subtly whispering about me as I was carrying my items back to the car. I'm writing this review not so that Jo Ann W. can send me a snarky response, but so that other potential shoppers know what they're getting into. Haven't been in yet but my phone experience reflects what I imagined by the name alone, others comments about feeling unwelcome was exactly how I felt on the phone. You can tell it's some teenage brat who thinks she's hot shit. Totally rude, unprofessional, snob. I went through all the phone options and was as quick and concise as one can be but what she told me would be acceptable went against the pre recorded options. I am nervous to come in with my items. Apparently the store is doing well enough it doesn't want new business. I did wind up going in and basically gave up 200 worth in clothes for 20. So depressing. read more

It was my first time visiting uptown cheapskate so I was really excited. However I couldn't be more disappointed. I wasn't even greeted when I entered the store and it looked pretty dirty . Just a bunch of staff members gossiping and complaining about how they wanted to go home. The fifteen minute announcement was broadcasted however said nothing about the dressing rooms being closed. So I asked if I can try on a few things and they said no dressing rooms closed at 845 which night have been useful to know in the announcement. I told them it was my first time and I didn't know and asked if they could make exception it's not like they were cleaning the dressing rooms or sanitizing them. So my next question was what their return policy was and they said u can only exchange not return so I couldn't try on the clothes and if they didn't fit I was stuck buying more of their overpriced used clothing. What a joke I walked out of their store and within minutes they left the store as well which obviously meant they had no closing duties and did not take any extra precautions in sanitizing door knobs cashiers or clean the floor for that matter. If u wanna catch COVID I would totally suggest that you shop here. They were rude and absolutely unhelpful and I will never come back. Don't waste ur money cuz it's not worth it when they are not following COVID cleaning procedures and not even wearing masks. The clothes aren't even organized in a way that you can find them. This is a great store to find casual, good quality second-hand pieces if you have patience and a good eye! The clothes are well organized, so it's easy to find a specific piece in the color and size you want. There are mostly women's items, but there is a small section of men's clothing and shoes. This store send my purses to donation without even any sort of notification! When I checked in on the kiosk I didnt read anything about if you dont retrieve your stuff we will donate it and not tell you! When I picked up the money I asked if I could leave them there as I was waiting for my friend to puck me up they agreeded but didnt say if you leave them we will donate them and not tell you! I do not have transportation and unemployed looking for work which was why I was selling my bags. My friend was supposed to get them on my behalf but kept forgetting. I had no way of getting them. I had probably 30 bags they just donated. I have pictures of them as I was also trying to sell them on offer up. I will contact a lawyer in this matter and see what I can do to get the compensation for my bags that were donated without my knowledge. read more

Finally stopped in to check this place out. Staff was very friendly, the place did not smell like a traditional resale shop and prices were decent. I spent 22 bucks for a shirt and pair of shorts. HUGE selection of women's clothing and shoes but unfortunately not the case for Men. Front corner of the store is dedicated to Mens clothing and shoes. I would give these guys 5 stars if they had more men's clothes and a bigger selection of clothes in my size (XL). Quite a bit in stock in S, M & L but not the case for XL or above. Fat shamed. Popped in here to ask if they sold plus sized clothes and was assured they did. Told them I would be back. Came back a few weeks later with the 2 bag maximum and was told it would be 25 mins. I browsed. Found shoes from Target, clothes from old navy. Cheap knock off clothes with the occasional brand name. Was thinking buying a xmas sweater in size 2x from Macy's (tag still on it). But when it was my turn I was told they wouldn't be taking anything. I was told I wasn't selling anything they would buy. Ok. I asked what do they look for. I was told "clothes teenagers would wear, clothes from Zara, anything that wasn't fat or too big". Um what? I felt ashamed and just walked out leaving my expensive "non brand fat" clothes behind. It wasn't until I got into my car and drove away that I got mad. 90% of their stock is non brand. Target isn't a brand and neither is "made for Macys". But that aside these people need sensitivity training. I'm appalled that she literally used the term FAT when referring to someone clothes. And to my face. Shame on you Uptown Cheapskate. After posting this review the owner or manager responded and called me a liar. Nice. Its obvious that your sales associate does not want to own what she said. That's expected. It was shameful and I wouldn't want to admit that either. But to call a client a liar goes beyond. And I'm not sure how you go about telling the age of a clothing item. She obviously couldn't tell that the Tommy Hilfiger jacket was less then 6 months old. Not like the 5 year old Macy's sweater on display mannekin. Oh, and there was no other "coworker" in sight. The sales buyer wasn't trying to be mean. Experience as a buyer: clothing selection is great and prices are fair, with tank tops and shirts being $10 or less. I love the variety of brands and the volume of inventory. Store is a little dusty but that's just how most second hand shops are like. HOWEVER, the staff there needs some work. Two of the ladies I worked with were great. They were super helpful and helped me get a dressing room started and the other lady who rang me up was very helpful in answering my questions. The one particular lady who was very rude and condescending was a tall, dark haired young woman ( i was in on a monday from 3-4pm) and she was very mean. I think she may have been the shift manager or something because she kept telling the rest of the workers what to do. I came out of the dressing room with a large handful of items that didn't work for me, and she told me to put my items on the rack that was right next to her. I had to step around her with my heavy load of clothes, and i was struggling to put it on the rack with one hand as my other hand was carrying the clothes I did want, and she just watched me wordlessly, not even moving, and i struggled to make all the hangers hook on the hanger. Most other sales people would have help out or taken the load from the customer. THEN, at the cash register, I asked her about helping me out with an item because it didn't have tags on it, she picked up the item, looked at it, said it was 8.99 and then THREW it onto the counter in front of me. I asked her what if it was possible to just get a new tag on it in case I wanted to return it, and she basically picked up my other items, looked at the tags for a matching 8.99 tag and repeatedly threw the items onto the counter in front of me when she literally could have just placed them down. She loudly asked for another lady to ring me up ( which this new lady was very nice and helpful), and then the mean lady turned to help out another customer and was suddenly SO nice and gracious to him, probably because the customer was a man. I don't know why she had to be so mean to me and my friend, probably because we were small asian girls?? but overall it was clear that she was being really rude to ME and not to the other customers. It made me feel really uncomfortable as I left the store. Most other sales people would be at least happy that someone was buying their stuff, but this one actually made be regret spending my money there. read more

When they first opened I brought clothes in and they were very fair with buying. The last few times I brought clothes in, they were not. I brought in brand name nice clothes, barely worn. They took maybe 4 things out of the whole tote, offered hardly anything for the items and left me the rest. I bagged them up and gave them to charity. Discovered this little gem last year. This is NOT a thrift store, so don't expect it to be like Goodwill or Salvation Army, where I also shop. Uptown Cheapskate buys and re-sells clothes that are on-trend so their target market would be tween to early 20's. I love that the store is well organized by size and category. The clothes do vary by label, so some are a little pricier than others. Just returned from a fantastic little shopping spree with my 19 year old daughter and snagged a t-shirt for my 15 year old son. read more

Worst place to buy/sell clothes too. I brought a garage bag full of clothes and they took 4 things. They told me the amount they were going to give me (12.50) and I wondered what 4 things they took to equal $12.50? The girl wouldn't let me see what items they took because they threw my items along with other people's items and couldn't take the time to show me. I didn't even get a chance to see if the exchange was actually worth it. The girl that did my exchange was SO rude. I've never come out of that store with a decent experience. They had clothes in there that looked old and over priced. The best part was after she handed my bag of clothes back, she says to me if I want to donate the bag to them... why would I donate this bag full of clothes that you originally didn't want? For you to go and put a price tag on them anyways and make the profit? No thanks, I told them. Stumbled upon this new shop while looking for another store. I was pleasantly surprised at the clothes that they had. The store buys and sells clothes but they are not like those places who will only take designer products in pristine condition. There were items from everywhere!!! Literally: from walmart and target all the way to Juicy Couture and Betsey Johnson. They carry both mens and womens clothes, shoes and accessories, and the store is very cute. The only thing is that there is not very much variety in sizes. Most of their stock is in size XS, S, or M (but hopefully that will change once more customers sell clothes to the company. I bought two items, and would go back again after they have been open for a while. read more
