I knew as I walked in I thought to myself "Snap, this is YELP worthy!" I stumbled on to this little jem last night after dinner at Octopus (sushi restaurant). I ordered their Mocha (hot) and some tea for friends. The owner is this older Armenia guy who could possibly be one of the nicest people I have met. As I received my drink, I'm usually a little b*tch when it comes to HOT drinks but as I sipped through it was just, perfect. Perfectly hot, not boiling hot, and perfectly sweetened. I was in heaven. The venue is very artsy but with a tint of the traditional coffee pc shop. They have "FREE WI-FI!!!!!!!!!!" and have three computer set up for public use. This is such a PLUS to me. I mean, great coffee, fantastic ambiance, free frickin WI FI internet and the owner couldn't be ANY nicer. Urartu has earned my respect and I declared this privately owned coffee shop MY FAVORITE COFFEE stop. This is an awesome place to study or to sit and chat with friends because it`s quite and they don't blast the music super loud to the point where everyone is screaming at each other just to be able to hear the other person talk. Free unsecured wifi is a plus!!! If you want to look up something, but don't have a smart phone nor a laptop with you, they have two computers in the back for you to use! I ordered the Ice Mocha and a Chocolate Chip cookie upon my visit here. The Mocha was strong, but with just the right amount of Chocolate. The Cookie was soft and big, tasted fresh and homemade. Upon leaving, the owner gave my bf and I a free Baklava to share! The owner is super friendly and helpful. Seems like he's the only one running the shop, so he's always walking around, cleaning tables, and talking to people. Parking in the structure behind is free for 90 minutes! whoo hoo!! I went back for that Veggie sandwich and it lived up to its look and smell! I had mine on pita with everything, except lettuce on it. I had them hold the dressings asking for mustard on the side. The sandwich is made panini style and I like adding the mustard at the table. The mix of veggies were fresh, crisp and plentiful topped with basil leaves and cheddar cheese. We visited here because of the great reviews, but were severely disappointed. The owner was very nice and had a decent selection of non dairy milk, hence the 2 stars....but the coffee was terrible, the service was slow, and the breakfast was garbage. I came to this little joint on a rainy night, and it was really quiet despite the Friday night. The owner was really nice and really attentive. There are two comfy couches and a bunch of tables and chairs, free wifi and some computers in the back. ( old school CRT monitors) It was a little more brightly lit than I would have liked, but considering I was reading, it was just fine. Nestled in a small street near the theater, it's a welcome sight in the pouring rain. I got a croissant which was huge and really nice and buttery. I gave it an extra star for the nice owner. But it doesn't have quite the vibe that I feel too comfortable with. You should come here and try their pastries in the morning. read more

Like everyone else has said, the dude that runs the place is the man. Only one minute after receiving my hot tea and being the clumsy fool I am I spilled it all over the table. He was kind enough to replace the tea at no charge and he even gave me a pastry because I tried my best to clean my mess. I only wish the place had more "cozy" seating. Not a very good first impression! No customer service or common curtesy whatsoever. Didn't provide enough condiments for my son's breakfast waffle. Completely short changed us on whip cream and syrup. They took forever for our to-go order and our drinks were sitting. I was given chocolate water as a mocha blend! I really needed to get some work done, which was not happening at home in bed so I took myself for some coffee and breakfast...at almost 1pm. I was warmly welcomed by a lady behind the counter almost immediately. I ordered a cappucino and an Urartu omelet w/out bell peppers. I sat down near an open outlet (not sure how many there are exactly), opened up my laptop and started trying to write my paper. After a short wait the lady brought my food. The cappucino was large and foamy, and the Urartu omelet was basically an egg omelet with ham, spinach, and tomato inside a crisp croissant. Even though I was hungry, it was a lot of food for me and I couldn't quite finish all of it! It was good, but was pretty standard for what it was. The cappucino was really enjoyable. I ended up staying there sort of working for close to 3 hrs. Their free wifi works well! There's no A/C in there though, only a fan they set up. On such a blistering hot day, it was bearable but I was really tempted to also order one of their smoothies after awhile. When I left, there were quite a few people in the cafe working or chatting, and it had a really nice atmosphere. It felt like I was sitting in a cozy home. Since it's so close to my boyfriend's place I'll probably frequent this place often in the future, especially since it's such a good place to sit and get things done. read more

My favorite is just an iced coffee with a little bit of hazelnut creamer... again, it's simple. and delicious. The service is great; the owner and servers are friendly and helpful. I asked for an iced coffee, with just a little bit of ice (to get more bang for the buck) and they made no issues about it. The woman at the counter also gave me the creamer bottle to add as much of it as I wanted... AND, the first time I came here, the owner brought blueberries to the table for free, just because. No gimmicks, nothing flashy. Just simple, DELICIOUS, and affordable drinks (and sandwiches) served with a friendly face. A refreshing break from the sometimes unlikeable world. read more

Let me begin by telling you that I am partially thankful to this place for finishing my coursework in my phd program. I needed a nearby place to work with wifi and this place was amazing. Great quiet spot to study! Reminds me a lot of 'central perk' from friends. You really get that same vibe. The owner is the nicest guy you will meet! Not the pushy kind about 'buy something or get out'. Coffee is no Starbucks but it gets the job done. I've tried the sandwiches, and they are pretty good. The wife is also around and she is usually just as nice. I spent a lot of afternoons after work at this place and was able to get a lot of research done. My office building is up the street so I would always walk. Parking could be a hassle as it's structured parking with 90 mins free. If you need more time, get ready to pay for parking. Why the drop in 1 star? Parking is a good reason, but more so, the owner is too nice. What do I mean by this? There is a group of men that tend to hangout outside and smoke. This place has really grown on me over the last few weeks. Perhaps it's the fact that there are very few small coffee shops in this overly corporate City of Glendale (Home of the Consumer Hell that is the Americana). Coffee Urartu reminds me of what a coffee shop is supposed to be: a place where one can chill, enjoy one's favorite beverage, and encounter friendly regulars. I haven't tried much of their selection, but I highly recommend their Feta Cheese and Basil sandwich as well as their iced vanilla lattes. The prices are slightly above average but the free Wi-Fi access and the owner's friendly demeanor more than make up for it. If you're tired of the synthetic culture at one of the constantly spawning Star*ucks in the area, come and give Urartu's a chance or two. I'm glad I did. read more

Free WIFI... very important nowadays... and ample plugs for your laptops if you need them. There's a $4.95 special for a 6" sandwich, which is well made (almost crafted.. I would even say), and there are Armenian pastries along with all the usual scones, cookies, etc. What sets this place apart is that the owners/staff are truly hospitable.. not just friendly. They asked guests to make sure that the internet was working okay, making sure that they are well accommodated. Truly impressed. read more

Before I left this place, I promised the owner I'd give him a perfect review. He deserves it. This place was great. I walked in a little pissed off because it used to be a Ben and Jerry's but quickly got over it. Owner was warm and friendly, you have net access, prices are abundantly reasonable, selection of drinks and treats was vast and it had a traditional Middle Eastern feel to it (without the hashish, which I dislike). Bathroom was clean, the people it attracted were nice, it was spacious--can't say enough, basically. Enjoyed it a whole lot. Intend to go back sooner rather than later. read more

Got home to find my Internet died. Crud. Had to go out and send a work email so I begrudgingly went out to Urartu since it was the only place open with wifi and it was relatively close. Then was irritated when people took up 2 parking spots or parked at an angle or parked too close to the white line. Not...cool. But stepping into Urartu changed my mood! No seriously. Not exaggerating. The owner, Urich, got up and greeted me with a huge smile. He is the most super nicest person in the world. No. Seriously. The guy is really, really nice! I bought this passion fruit tea (I forgot what it was called but it's the only decaf one) and it was nice, sweet, and tarty! Matched well with the cranberry orange scone, which, by the way, was flaky but moist on the inside. It was also huge! Not like those dinky ones at starbucks. Got both for 5 bucks. Nice. It was also really peaceful with soft KOIT type music playing in the background. He knew the names of several ppl that came in and it gave a real neighborhood coffee shop feel. I didn't know that the hours changed to close at 9:30 and I got there at 9:30. He stayed open until 10:30 because he didn't change it on the website and he wanted to keep his word. Not only that, but he wanted me to finish my work. Then as I was leaving, he gave a student and me his business card and said that if we ever need to study or work and it's almost closing time, we should call the coffee shop and say we're on the way. He would keep it open for us. Wow! I know a previous poster said that EVERYONE has great customer service because of the economy, but I will have to disagree. I recommend the Lox bagel )which was probably the best lox bagel I've ever had). I also ordered an iced matcha latte which was great! The staff is friendly as well! Great little coffee spot out in Glendale. It's a nice change from the usual boba place if you come to just hang out on your laptop or hang out and talk. It's relatively quiet and you don't have to hear the blender going every 10 seconds like at boba places. I had some of the mocha which was great and really strong.
