I always feel bad staying and taking up Wifi and usually try to tip but for some reason forgot to initially and sat down to study. Sandwich was brought with hummus and dressing instead of reg toppings (not a problem and no charge). Offered ice water and brought and offered to bring coffee after meal or now. Pretty much restaurant quality service all before I remembered to tip which the service quickly reminded me. Also never felt rushed to pack up and felt welcome to be there studying. I was on the fence almost giving this place a four star because it wasn't open later and the sandwich was good but nothing to go out of the way for then I remembered... Its a coffee shop... Best white chocolate mocha I've ever had! I've seen this coffee house for years but never really gave it a chance. That is until I had an appointment next door, I decided why not? Well, I want to kick myself for not stopping by sooner! I swear they have the best white chocolate mocha I've ever had. And considering that I've been to many coffee houses, I'd say that says a lot about this place. Minus one star for the kind of slow service. But to be fair, there were a lot of customers & only one lady working the counter & making the orders. I just didn't like that she decided to take everyone's order before making my drink...so I did have to wait a little longer than expected, considering I was the first in line & there were no orders ahead mine. One of my new favorite coffee shops in Glendale! I definitely recommend this to anyone trying something new. The family who owns it is Armenian and it is a very cute setup inside and outside. Seating is in the paseo outside with a bunch of tables. I tried their honey oatmilk latte iced, chocolate cookies, and a blueberry muffin. All homemade! I have no idea how I missed this place since setting foot in Glendale. Probably it's because I'm not much of a coffee drinker, except when it comes to Armenian (aka "Turkish") coffee. I discovered Urartu after searching around for a shop with some good Armenian coffee. Hey, I was in the mood... Looking around at the decor, I'm assuming that this is an Assyrian/Armenian coffee joint. Two dollars buys you a cup of nice, sludgy, and grainy Armenian coffee. Just how it's supposed to be. The owner is nice enough to even offer you sugar in your cup. I was a bit surprised at how semi-quiet the atmosphere was. I felt a little uneasy carrying a soft conversation. It's a nice change-up from other noisier coffee shops. There appears to be a somewhat decent selection of Armenian pastries...I'll have to try some next time and report back. Came here to work on a project with a classmate. Ample parking in parking garage next door, and first 90 minutes are free. I didn't know that and ended up paying 1.75 for street parking. Booo..... The cafe itself was very comfy. I ordered medium iced coffee for essentially $2. Pretty good iced coffee, which, depending on the place, is a hit or miss. The man taking order was a delight; he seemed so friendly and happy. Free wifi with password, which was a plus, because we were using google drive to work on a presentation. However, I was inexplicably kicked out of internet ~1 hour in. Yelp reviews don't indicate a time limit so I don't know what happened. We planned to leave soon anyways so I never inquired about it. read more

Very cute place. I like small coffee shops and tend to stay away from chains. You can ask them for a little advice in picking your drink and they are more than happy to help. Ultimately, I was happy with an Armenian Coffee (similar to Turkish coffee, of course). And a snicky snack from a local bakery --- Panana, I think it was called. Excellent choice for an independent coffee shop in Glendale. Incredibly friendly service, hassle-free, password-less wifi, and cosy enough interior suitable for getting work done. Despite having only ordered one coffee drink during my four hour encampment at one of the coffee shop's numerous two-seater tables, I feel most welcome here. When I requested a glass of (free) water several hours into my stay, the owner delivered with a genuine smile, extra ice, and the for-here/reusable cups that I greatly prefer. All around top-notch service. I'm not a coffee snob, so I can't really vouch for the quality of the coffee, but my latte was tasty and the medium was served in a generously sized mug. My only complaint would be that they are playing irritating (to me) music: think Mariah Carey and similarly heartbroken, wailing female R&B/pop vocalists. However, this misstep is easily resolved by plugging into some soothing nature sounds with headphones that block out everything except for the occasional high-pitched diva yelp. Overall, great little spot. The owner is so kind, earnest, and hard-working, I will not hold his taste in music against him. Five stars. read more

This place is so awesome! I highly recommend coming here for a light read or studying. There are outdoor seating which is great on a beautiful day. I recommend the Lox bagel )which was probably the best lox bagel I've ever had). I also ordered an iced matcha latte which was great! The staff is friendly as well! Only thing I wished is that they played a little softer music. They were playing this techno/house beat music which kind of threw off my reading but overall everything else was great! Urartu is a warm, communal place in stark distinction to the frenetic energy of Downtown Glendale. Customer service is excellent, there's free Wifi, and you don't feel weird about hanging out here all day (and trust me, I've hung out there for extended stretches of time). Sometimes the seating can get a little crowded and awkwardly intimate, but if you stake out a good table you'll be happy as a clam. Don't expect "amazing" from the food and drink selection. It's pretty standard and sometimes even a bit prosaic, in terms of flavor. I don't think they're trying to outdo themselves in this department. Stick with the basic stuff like tea, coffee, and maybe a sandwich, and you won't be super disappointed. Pastries are definitely sub-par though, from my experience. In short - go there if you want a hospitable and non-self conscious place to hang out and do work for a long time, or on a date to get cozy, or if you want to be insular and read by yourself. I don't know why this place has such a high rating. Besides maybe the free WiFi. We were looking for a good iced coffee and maybe a baked treat and decided to try this place out because the reviews were so great. The owners seem very sweet, I can't fault them for their good service. But the coffee, food and atmosphere is 100% lacking. Stale baked goods that look straight from Costco (i got an oatmeal raisin cookie because out of all the unappealing pastries it looked best, but it was terrible) and the coffee is nothing special, just standard drip, tastes like folgers or something. Ick. For a "coffee" shop you'd think the focus would be more on making great coffee. Disappointing. Wow! I'm completely shocked how high the ratings are for this place! I'll preface my review with the fact that the gentleman behind the counter who greeted me when I walked in was very friendly and hospitable. However, the employees at Starbucks are equally friendly. I ordered an iced latte with soy milk. My drink was absolutely horrible! I could not taste the coffee and the soy milk tasted nothing like soy milk. This was the first time that I have ever thrown away an iced latte that I paid $5 bucks for!! I really wish that my drink tasted better because I work close by and wanted to make this place my new coffee spot. Unfortunately, I can't see myself making a return visit if such a simple coffee drink can taste so bad. If any of you yelpers think I'm being a bit too harsh, I challenge YOU to order an iced latte and see what you think. But...don't say I didn't warn you. Alas! I am not sure why people rate this place so high... Probably the best part of the business is the man running this place(probably the owner). He is very welcoming and friendly. He has a good sales technique as well. His work ethic is the biggest asset of this business. There is a lot of people who are using laptops who most of them are Armenians. There are some computers and even printer that let you print from the computer! That is something people might appreciate. It could be cultural differences but I don't feel this place is rated 4.5 stars. Food: It is fine. Price and quality matches the value I believe. But small bugs are flying around so it bugged me. Establishment : They have a lot of power outlet, so you are set! But, it was a hot day, and no air conditioning running inside of the store. It was bit uncomfortable for me to be honest. Even though the outside tables have big signs "non-smoking," people are still smoking. And the smoke comes inside because the door was open. Welcoming and friendly owner! I must say, customer service makes a big difference for me. But the free wifi (and a pay-as-you-go computer station if you forget your laptop) is also a plus. I ordered a house coffee and the breakfast omelet sandwich. However, because the owner ran out of a bread he normally uses, he gave me a $1 discount instead. What a surprise! The omelet sandwich was yummy as well. I haven't tried anything else there, so I can't say much about the pastries but the owner did mention they were freshly baked. I wouldn't say there's anything super special about the coffee or the breakfast omelet but it suits me just fine. I don't have a problem with parking because when I go, I'm not in a hurry to leave. They have underground garage parking a couple of stores down which allow free unvalidated parking for 90 mins. This is good enough for me in this city! I stopped by here today for a coffee. I usually go to Starbucks but was looking for something different and cozier, as well as a nice espresso, European style. I googled coffee nearby and found Urartu and was intrigued by the Armenian coffee I had never heard of before! I walked there from my office which is a short distance away and it was delicious, and so smooth! I can't wait to get it again. If you haven't tried it before, it's worth trying if you love black coffee or espresso like me! I was very impressed with this place. It has a calming, happy ambiance perfect for studying or meeting with friends. You can sit inside or outside in a nice little plaza. The staff was so kind and made the whole experience pleasant. Probably the best coffee shop I've come across in Glendale. Great service! It was almost as if you're visiting a friend's house and are told to sit back and enjoy the coffee. Make yourself feel at home. My favorite kind of environment. I highly recommend you try their White Chocolate Mocha latte, they use all natural ingredients (not just for this drink, but for everything). It's so delicious. I came here today for the first time to have a meeting, and till this day I had no idea Urartu Coffee existed. He told me that he's a usual at Urartu so I couldn't say no. First of all nice shop! Free wifi (Can't get any better) I was then greeted by a nice lady which also made me like this place more. I ordered a latte, 2% milk, and I got it in no time the way I liked it. We sat outside which has a great view of Maryland, couldn't complain. Overall the coffee was great, the service was great, the prices were very good.
