Our regular vet was closed on the weekend and our senior dog was in pain and at the end of his life. Green tree got us on right away (after VCA turned us away with no empathy at all), we're kind, compassionate, arranged for a private cremation, and made our boy's last moments peaceful and full of dignity. Very caring and meticulous staff. Obviously care a lot about the animals. Once I brought my cat in for an echogram, and they got the dates for the radiologist mixed up. Wasn't able to get him cleared to fly on that visit before I had to move as a result. But the staff if great, and really helpful. I know sometimes mistakes happen, and they were very apologetic. Greentree is "okay" but not great. I took my dog here once several years ago and had pledged to not return, but just brought him back for an eye issue that was urgent and they had an opening to see him. To be fair - the staff and vet techs are all pretty great - but I don't vibe with the doctors at all. I feel like they are "nice" but in a very surface way and their prices are not cheap; plus a heads up that you will not receive a breakout of fees until after you've paid. My dog's eye issue ended up being something he needed to go to a specialist for, after 3 separate visits to Greentree. When I called the eye-doctor, the specialist asked me to contact Greentree to ask if the doctor could do a quick doctor-to-doctor consult with the specialist so they could evaluate when to see my doggo. When I called Greentree I was told "the doctor will send over the records but that should give them everything they need". The specialist then called back to reiterate that a brief conversation would be helpful but still wasn't given any time. Today I received a brief email from Greentree saying that my dog should be seen "sooner than later" but still no one would reach out directly to the specialist. I understand that time is money, but I've spent $450+ for 3 15-minute visits, a cone, and some eyedrops -- it would have been nice for the doctors who said "they just loved my little patient" to spend 5-10 minutes talking about his needs with the specialist that they referred me to. In short - "Okay" service, but could be more personal and authentic. read more

Since she hasn't been in for 6 years, she is considered new and they cannot see her for another week out. I thought that doctor's take care of the sick. But I this is not the case. Recently I had to take my cat in for emergency services after collapsing. Unfortunately, he did not make it but from the moment I rushed into Greentree with him I was already taken care of. The receptionist Renee was so understanding and empathetic to my emotions and immediately brought my sister and I some water as we waited for news on Zuko. My husband arrived just in time for the news from the doctor and we were immediately given a private room to process the information. After some time they offered an exam room to see Zuko. The entire staff was so compassionate and sensitive to our grief- it was a relief to see how much they cared for us and Zuko even in this short time. We were given as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes and they also gave us options for him moving forward. In one week we were able to pick up Zuko's remains after a private cremation which was in a beautiful cherry wood box with a nice engraved label. They also provided us with some of his fur and a paw print with his name in a keepsake box. We were all very impressed with the entire experience even as traumatic as it was. I will definitely bring my future pets here! read more

Took my cat in last week because he was just wasnt himself. He was outside, ate some grass and then threw up a few more times then was acting very off. He didnt want any food, water or treats, so I brought him in the next morning. He has a history of UTIs, but this was different. After a check up, the dr advised a urinalysis to rule out blockages, infection and other issues. After the tests came back, he had elevated sugars (190) normal range is 75-120. The dr then said he was concerned and wanted to do a blood test as this could be a diabetes issue. WHAT?!?! After a blood test, the dr came out extremely confident that my cat in fact had diabetes. They prescribed a human insulin and ordered a glucose monitor for the cat. When i tried to get it filled, they failed to tell me thst the insulin is $300!!!! After working the math, i wouldnt be able to use half the bottle before the shelf life ended. I was livid. I called back to ask for a more economical insulin as that cant be the only one. They prescribed another that is $50. Why could they have started with that?! I had to wait a few days for the items to come and when i went back with the cat to be instructed on how to provide shots and sugar monitoring, we uncovered he had normal blood sugar!!! He is not diabetic. They had no excuse for the misdiagnosis except that sometimes stress can cause elevated sugars. Again WHY COULDNT THEY HABE STARTED WITH THAT? instead of all the possibilities they went to the most extreme and expansive. This is the 3rd or so time my cat is on the verge of an "emergency" here. I will no linger be bringing my cat here. They just seem like every pet is a massive paycheck to them. Im over it. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE IF YOU TRULY CARE ABOUT THEIR WELLBEING!! GO TO JET CITY ANIMAL CLINIC!! Our 18 yr old Bichon was extremely lethargic and not really responding to much. We called Green Tree Animal Hospital just before they were about to close and wanted to just speak to a vet on the phone for a short conversation about what we may need to do. They refused to speak with my husband and so we tried to escalate to the owner of the practice and have him give us a call the next day. We called the next day to tried to speak speak with someone again and were informed we are no longer welcome to their clinic. Green Tree Animal Hospital is extremely unprofessional and cares for nothing but money. If you want a place that actually cares about your pet and family, I would highly recommend Jet City Animal Clinic. We took our business back to them and they were completely amazing. read more

I wrestled with writing this review. In my heart, I knew I needed to write this in memory of my Boxer girl, Stella. She was a patient with Greentree for 8 years. She passed away last Sept 2021 at nearly the age of 12. She had a cardiac event when she was with her pet sitter and I was out of town. My husband and I were heartbroken to have to make the decision to euthanize her and not be able to say goodbye. Dr. Dunphy euthanized her and my pet sitter took her body to Resting Waters. I never received a letter, an email, a card or even one call from either Dr. Dunphy or Dr. Klevin expressing condolences. I mean, we were in tears on the phone trying to make this awful decision from far away and she was their patient for 8 years! When the front desk called me later that day to collect payment, which of course everyone needs to be paid timely, I didn't even get a "sorry for your loss". She took the payment , said thank you, and hung up. Wow and how very, very sad. It's like my girl's life didn't matter to them. They are in the business of caring for people's furry family members. I just find this unacceptable. Now, it's been a transactional type of vet care provider for many years in my opinion and in retrospect I should have changed vets a long time ago. I had a naturopath as well and always did my own research, so I had control over my sweet girl's care. A few recent reviews mentioned bad vibes, or the like, and this is exactly what it has become. I would say the care has been average at best. A good friend of mine (who referred me to them 8 years ago!) left them about 5 years ago for this very reason. I should have too. As they have grown, they have completely lost the soul of the practice when Dr. Klevin 1st purchased it. I rescued a new Boxer girl a week ago and found a new vet. My new girl is 2 years old and her vet is what I would expect a professional in such a sensitive, high specialized field to be. His front office staff is lovely and his techs are kind, strong communicators and seem to really care about the little furry friends coming and going. It was a polar opposite experience. I hope someone from Greentree reads this and finds a way to express empathy for their patients, even if they really don't have any. read more

Our puppy suffered an injury on a busy Friday afternoon, and the staff at Greentree worked him into their schedule for xrays and an exam the next day, when no other vet was able to see for many days (most were weeks out, even for an urgent issue!). Because of this we were able to schedule a surgery to repair an issue with his growth plate right away, ultimately saving his leg. The staff called to follow up on his recovery, even though the surgery was done elsewhere (by a specialist). We had a terrific experience here, and have found our forever veterinary clinic. read more

I highly recommend Greentree. They are thorough, and very clearly care a great deal about both their 4, and 2 legged customers. I have had many positive experiences with Dr Kleven. I very much enjoy his clear knowledge of the most recent research, as well as his willingness to explain the impacts. He helped me understand the complicated details of several diseases and injuries my dogs have faced over the years. I was grateful to be given the information needed, so that I could make the right decision for my pets. The doctors explain all treatment options, and then also give advice as to what is the most practical - even when it is the cheapest option. I have never felt over-sold. Most recently I had a very good experience with Dr. Klein. I had to rush my dog in with a mystery situation that was causing him pain and extreme discomfort. He needed to be at the vet all day, and Dr. Klein was wonderful about keeping in contact at regular intervals. The staff was great at making sure I knew what was happening, and where they were in the evaluation process. It provided comfort to get regular updates, so that I knew he was doing okay, and had a good sense of when I'd be able to pick him up. Most importantly, she provided good insight, diagnoses, and treatment plans. My little guy is doing much better, thanks to her! read more

My 13-year-old Jack Russell/Miniature Manchester has been looked after by Greentree and their doctors and technicians and staff for five years now. Ari has check ups regularly and has been treated--from his teeth to his digestion issues--and gets his paws and glands cleaned. There has been a call or two where I've felt scared or desperate, and the doctors always responded with care, determined to diagnose and resolve issues. But there was one incident this past year I'm most grateful for. Ari was sadly in an incident with an unleashed dog, and I carried him bleeding from his neck to the hospital. My shirt and arms were covered in blood, and I thought it was the last time I would see him again when, near closing, they quickly opened a slot for Ari and took him. There are a few things that surprise me looking back. The front desk came to me immediately, offered me a towel and cleaned his bloody leash. They looked after me in the room, and they were as shaken as I was to see Ari. There was also a gentlemen who had an appointment with his cat, but he happily cancelled his slot for Ari, saying he can come back another time. It was the work of everyone at Greentree but also the kindness of strangers who acted without hesitation. After his surgery, and with some meds and care, Ari is now barking at the crows, licking his bowl clean, and running down California again. Thank you Greentree for saving Ari's life and also to the surrounding community for your kindness and strength. read more

I completely agree with the comments saying the professional staff are top notch here. However, I've now had too many experiences where I've asked for estimates of the cost of various services - and upon service delivery been SHOCKED at how much more they were than the original estimate. IF SETTING TREATMENT COST EXPECTATIONS AND BEING NOT CYNICAL ABOUT MEDICATION MARK-UPS ISN'T A BIG DEAL FOR YOU, THEN CONSIDER THIS CLINIC A 5 STAR CLINIC - SERIOUSLY. THEY ARE OTHERWISE REALLY, REALLY GOOD. But for us, these are also very important considerations. I've brought this up with them after prior surprises (e.g. estimate for a spaying of $500-$650 - which already seemed a tad high) that wound up being well over $1000. Said our dog was 54 pounds, and the estimate was based on under 50 pounds - THEY WEIGHED HER before the estimate. No apology or sign that they understood that money doesn't grow on trees for many of us - just "we needed more anesthesia ...". They did reduce the fee a bit upon a second, in-person protest of the bill - but it still was nowhere near the estimate. Today - it was a simple ear infection exam. Our pup had been seen for a yeast infection in her ear before, and was well treated/prescribed an anti fungal med. It cleared up quickly. Yet it returned just under three months later (we'd failed to keep water out of her ears during a shower - obviously our fault). Rather than simply OK a refill, I was told we'd have to bring her in. My personal physician wouldn't require this, but OK. I asked how much it would likely cost and was told "$67 plus the cost of the medicine". As usual, the in-clinic treatment of our dog was great - and we got good information regarding how to make sure to keep water out of the ear canal when bathing/showering, and how to more easily and safely clean the ear canal. Good stuff. However, upon checkout, I was billed $201. The medication was marked up more than double what it can be purchased for at a pet store or online - close to triple. And the costs of cleaning the dogs ears and the cytology exam they required to make sure it was a yeast infection had clearly NOT been factored into the estimate. That's not trivial - the cost of cleaning and cytology should have been anticipated, and a nearly triple markup on Mometamax is pretty greedy (I'll own up to not having the foresight to ask for a prescription, rather than accepting the medication they handed to me). It's fine to be a premium cost provider - but if you are, you need to be honest and upfront about it - if anything, go overboard in warning the client of potential costs. They need to get their act together in only one area, but it's an important one for many clients: setting cost expectations with customers that can be relied upon - vs. what appears to be sloppiness/aloofness in this area that can easily be perceived to be 'bait and switch' tactics. I don't think they intentionally do this, but they don't seem to care enough about their clients to give us reasonably/somewhat carefully calculated estimates. Judging by some of the other Yelp comments, I'm not alone in reaching this conclusion. Despite their proximity and otherwise good qualities, we're going elsewhere from now on, to an office that seems (when helping my daughter have her pups cared for) equally professional and caring yet yet nowhere near as seemingly recklessly expensive. This new veterinarian & her staff are always VERY detailed in reviewing not only their estimates, but the conditions that could increase or decrease their involvement/expense in caring for the pet. read more

Let me be clear - This review would be five stars if Dr. McKim had not retired and been replaced with someone who apparently does not love animals. Our puppy needed his 2nd round of vaccinations. At 11 weeks old the new doctor took him into the other room, strapped him to a metal table and left him there to cry and yelp for a matter of minutes before returning to administer the shot. When asked about this method (which we have NEVER seen before with any of the tens of dogs and puppies we have raised) he said that he likes to "get them used to the table." What?! This is an 11 week old puppy who weighs 13 lbs and sweet as can be. Unacceptable. Dr. McKim was incredible and I am very sad to see him go. Especially if this new guy is the best we could do for a replacement. read more

Although I have never met my Great Dane's two vets here in person, they've been wonderfully supportive of her health (and now, unfortunately guiding me through some fear aggression she's learned from a weird interaction at an emergency vet, I think, another story). Great source of education on having a healthy, happy pup. And of course I appreciate that all the staff have been gracious and swoon over my puppy - they may do over every pet but I couldn't care less. Here's a bad review I read on google reviews I wish I had read first... "Medical staff is condescending and unaccomodating. Bad vibes every time. Done with them." This was my EXACT experience. My story... I have a dog who's been not doing well. I've never been to this place. Found them on google. Made an appointment. I filled out their lengthy questionnaire about my pet's health issues and medicines and all the pertinent information. But when I go there, the receptionist couldn't find it. Then the vet tech called me (I was sitting the car with my dog because of covid) and FROM THE GET GO he was abrasive and condescending. He started asking questions that I had previously filled out on the new patient form. I asked if they had gotten my dog's previous records and if they still couldn't find the form I filled out. He got testy about me asking that. I finally said, "You're being very abrasive, I would like to speak to some one else." He put me on hold. I turned to my husband standing outside the car and said this guy was so abrasive, the receptionist came back on the phone and said to me, "When you're ready to change your tune, you can call us back." THEN SHE HUNG UP ON ME. WOW, BULLET DODGED. If this is how they treat you before your pet goes inside, how could you trust them with your pet behind closed doors? Pup, boyfriend, and I just moved from West Seattle to Greenwood, but we're sticking with Greentree because we love Dr. McKim and staff so. freaking. much. We adopted our dog in June, and since then, she's had a ridiculous amount of issues - Parvo (acquired before we adopted her... don't judge), suture issues (also pre-us), kennel cough, random digestive issues, and some bacteria and/or virus. Forking over money for vet bills sucks, but we don't mind it so much as Greentree. The front desk ladies (Kelly, Tracy, and others) are so warm whenever we come in, and not because we practically pay their salaries with our dog's lame-o immune system. They sincerely care about her, and both of us humans and the dogger enjoy coming in. As soon as the dog recovered from her initial issues, Dr. McKim made sure to vaccinate her and give us as much advice as possible. He communicates both with us and the pup as well as humanly possible. I could not recommend Greentree more. Trust them with your creatures! read more

I've gone to Greentree for 19 years and have taken 5 dogs to them. I have a 20 year old Bichon Frise who was neutered by them 19 years ago. They have provided compassionate care at times and the doctors are talented. Considering the relationship and how much business I have given them, they should be as considerate and compassionate as possible and understand how important my dogs are but recently they have NOT and only seem to care about money. They have always charged more money than other providers and I have no issue with that, and they should provide excellent service considering, yet this has not happened. Recently when my 20 year old dog was having issues I asked that they fit him in as he was dying. They said no, and this is understandable. I then asked for a 5 minute call with doctor Dunphy. She told the support staff which relayed to me that "It's just not going to happen!" with no further explanation. Dr Kleven refused to take my calls when I attempted to escalate the issue. I feel that this is unacceptable and would encourage others to boycott Greentree for this. read more

New to the area and I dreaded finding a vet as my dog really, really does not like vet checkups and vaccines. Given Covid protocol, a tech (Anna) met me in the parking lot. She was wonderful with my suspicious dog. I tricked my dog into following her. Thirty minutes later the warm and knowledgeable Dr. Dunphy called and told me about my dog's health. She offered advice without pushing procedures. My dog was happy upon his return to my care, not shaking as he so often does after a vet appt. Excellent job and fair pricing. read more

The level of incompetence can only be described as cruel. The office told one thing, only to come back and get the complete opposite response from the vet. All this ended in a lot of children's tears. My situation was 100% caused by Greentree. After a disappointing experience at another WS vet, we ended up going to Greentree, needing to get in on short notice for our first visit, which wasn't ideal. Everyone at the clinic, from the woman I spoke with on the phone to make the appointment to all the staff we interacted with during the visit, was phenomenal - friendly, informative, and made sure our dog was able to be seen the same day, even though we needed a full length visit since he was a new patient. Dr. Kleven and the vet tech both went out of their way to make sure our shy, scaredy-cat of a dog was as comfortable as possible during his visit, which was so, so appreciated. Followup was clear and prompt and we got good advice that quickly cleared up a lingering issue and made us feel comfortable and informed about the options and treatments. I recently found a lost dog and brought it here to scan for a microchip. Nicest people EVER! Even the doctor came out to say hi and see what was going on. This was only minutes before closing and they were still so incredibly helpful, making all the calls necessary to get the pup back to its owners safely. I have been going to Greentree Animal Hospital for many years. I was sorry that Dr McKim retired, but Dr. Kleven has been very good. Since my dog (surprise) is nervous at the vets, Kleven has sometimes done his initial treatment with the dog on the floor, with a treat or two thrown in. He also has instituted a soft surface (removable) on top of the cold stainless table, with a towel on top that to help the dog become calm. He and his staff are professional, friendly and very helpful. I will continue to take my animals to Greentree. read more

My 97 year old grandmother recently brought a stray neighborhood cat to this establishment. Being an animal lover, she did not want to have this cat suffer in the cold and slowly die somewhere. My aunt was able to assist in getting the cat in a carrier and to this location. Apparently to put a suffering animal to sleep multiple tests need to be performed. So the nice gesture by my 97 year old grandmother turned into a $230 bill for her. She did not own the cat, it was a cat that lived in the neighborhood and was homeless. Since I was not present with her at the time I tried to get this bill adjusted by explaining the circumstances and that she's on a fixed income. Unfortunately they would not budge. They said they're not in the business of price gauging but perhaps they are in the business of taking advantage of the elderly. Either way, I'm a long time resident of West Seattle and would highly recommend going elsewhere for your pet care. read more

We have lived 6 years in West Seatte, and we recommend Dr. McKim and staff at Greentree without reservation--Dr. McKim is knowledgeable, long-established, and he really cares about his patients. He has known our dogs since puppyhood, and he and his staff work hard at building long-term, caring relationships with you and your pets. His staff are long-term too; some have been with him for 15-20 years, and that must mean something. We have a small Pomeranian who needed bladder stones removed, and the surgery required seemed scary to me, but the Doc did really fine work. Teddy is so happy now, and the surgery is invisible. Sometimes the practice is really busy, but they manage to get to everyone. It's all worth it--it's high-quality care, and your pet comes first. read more

I have met the most compassionate and capable doctor for my 13 year old JRT in Dr. McKim. This is the first time I have met a vet who does not keep a distance from my wonderful companion. He comforted her while he examined her for the source of her pain. He was very gentle and she trusted him which is huge. His diagnosis was spot on, and treatment age appropriate. I have many dogs that I care for in my business. Their people trust me to see that their family members get the best care possible. I use different vets for different dogs and after 4 I have taken her to, Dr. McKim is going to be my first choice for all of my clients in the future! read more
