Love this gym. Every class and every instructor is a little different, so you never get bored. It's truly the perfect way to get in shape because you don't have to think or come up with a workout or plan - just show up and they'll give you a tough but achievable workout! Andrija's Monday class is the perfect start to the week - definitely a challenging class. Arturo's classes are always so energizing and fun and he provides really good feedback (also love the reggaeton music). Mike's Wednesday classes have been getting better each time - it's best when he mixes in some quick boxing with the strength training. It's also great that they have 6:40pm classes so you don't have to rush to make it to a 5 or 6pm class. Overall this has been my favorite gym I've ever belonged to! read more

I am a little late with this review but I highly recommend this gym! The environment that they promote is really welcoming. The workouts are really good and challenging but the instructors make it fun and entertaining. Due to my work timeline I could only go to the early morning class but I will say that I was shocked that I was that motivated to go to a 6am class. The moment when any teacher feels the need to put students down, especially people who are new, that's the moment all respect for the teacher and the craft is lost. Ricky I'm sure you've had better days, but putting anyone down especially women is not a good look. Regardless of what you thought you might have been trying to teach, please take this moment to realize you lost clients, damaged the reputation of the gym, and have cost the owner of the gym future business. You have every right to feel as if people need to toughen up or whatever, but delivery makes a difference and your message did not get delivered. I hope you can take a minute to see that when you have to explain yourself and for how the class went afterwards, that it probably didn't go as planned. Your job is to teach new people, push your regulars and refine your boxers. Anyone can tell you what your no good at...Anyone can yell at you, but it takes a teacher to make you believe that you can be better, do better and then make you want to do so. For someone who for years has worked out, got my butt kicked and had my limits pushed at other gyms, I can say I would never recommend anyone take your class. If anyone asks me I will use the power of my word of mouth to say go elsewhere. It's your right to take this however you would like and it's my right to speak out. I loved this gym when I first arrived it's big and open and exactly what I was expecting. I tried a free class to see if I was interested. First the instructor was really tough which was great and what I wanted but he didn't explain things thoroughly and just expected you to know. I needed more direction-not like I'm a total idiot - I used to box in the past-I ended up just doing my own series of punches on the bags. The music was awful....I would have liked trap music or something but it was music in a different language which is fine(I listen to Arabic music)but not when I workout. And then at the end of class I felt soooooooo much pressure to sign up for a package-basically the guy was like sign up now sign up now sign up now...I was like damn give me a minute-that to me was the biggest turn off. read more

I've done a few classes here and really enjoy it. I had no experience and was intimidated, but found that all types of people were at the classes and really got into it once I got started. Classes move quickly and have lots to offer, and I feel I got a great workout. My favorite instructor is Jason, who really takes the time as I was a newbie to help correct my form and go over fundamentals. Some of the other instructors will just shout instructions for 60 minutes without personal interaction, but that might be some people's thing. Worth checking out! read more

Today was my 3rd class (12:00-1pm) at Urban Boxing taught by Mike Easton. During the previous 2 classes, I didn't have my heart monitor on to see how many calories I burned during the 1 hour class. Today, I used my Apple Watch with the Under Armour Record app to monitor my total calories burned. After an hour workout, I burned a total of 1,116 calories. That's insane!!! I'm an average 5'6" built guy who goes to the gym on a regular basis for strength training and normally burns an average of 500 calories during my workout. If you're looking for a good cardio workout, this class is as good as it gets. I've taken Orange Theory and burned around 900 calories. This is by far the best cardio workout, strength training, and core workout anyone can do. Mike is an awesome instructor. He walks around while you're working on your drill to make sure you perform the punches correctly so that you don't hurt yourself. read more

I love this gym. The classes are fun, the trainers are excellent. There is plenty of variety in the classes so you can always work to your level (and energy that day). Come prepared to WORK! It's not a gym of people standing around, looking at their phones. There is energy and activity everywhere. The classes are very fun, and hard. There isn't pressure to do everything from the start, but there is plenty of motivation, and they'll work with you whatever your level. The trainers are fantastic, the workouts are killer, and the club is very welcoming! My husband and I were visiting DC for a week, and the owner Lui was very kind to give us a week long pass. We took three of Arturo's classes (boxing conditioning and boxing level 1) and they were challenging but so much fun! I like that the conditioning class included some boxing and wasn't just crunches and push-ups. I also liked the partner work during the boxing class. I learned a lot more about how to move when facing an opponent than I would when just hitting the heavy bag. Arturo is also so interactive and fun that it makes the class go by fast. I've seen him do the salsa and break dance in the middle of a set of burpees. I just had to laugh! After each class, I was so pumped and ready to face the day. I'm bummed that I didn't get to try other classes. I heard Nathan teaches a great boxing 2 class with lots of partner work. If you're looking for a fun but challenging workout, I highly recommend checking out Urban Boxing DC! If we lived in DC, we would definitely belong to this boxing club. read more

Urban boxing is quite solid as a boxing gym, but to me their money practices seem shady which would be a deal breaker should I later be in the market for a gym. I signed up with them twice, the first time when I left due to moving for a job, they charged my card for an extra month after I cancelled, so I put a block on the card. This caused problems later down the line, because my bank was unable to remove the block. Due to this issue, I ended up being charged for a month that I was out of the country and had requested to freeze. Ultimately I feel that Urban boxing could have a better rapport with their clients if they were slightly more accomodating, rather that deffering to "it's policy". A plus however, is that the gentlemen behind the front desk is a real sweetie and always says hi when I go in. Their staff clearly know what they are doing and they will give you a great workout. I would have really liked to have participated in some level 2 classes, but without paying for individual lessons it felt like there wasn't a way for me to reach the skill level needed to participate in those classes. The level one classes primarily focus on cardio and form with little to no sparring, so it is hard to get a chance to put into practice what you are learning when your opponent is a stationary bag class after class. Several of the coaches genuinely want you to learn, and will correct you if they walk by and see you doing something wrong, but this is not always possible simply due to classes being too large to give each person individual attention. Other coaches it feels like are just there, and one in particular seems to only have eyes for the female GW students, which makes his class mildly uncomfortable. read more

They offer boxing (catering to different skill levels) as well as kickboxing and jiu jitsu. The instructors are friendly and helpful. This is an amazing place to get your extreme workout under in an hour. If you are looking for a challenge this is the place to go, punching that bag and the cross-muscle exercise under these well seasoned instructors direction will put you to the test, and you'll get great results. I was pleasantly surprised because I learned so much from urban boxing and they really pushed me to work out harder I wish LA had as great of a boxing gym as this! The facility is small and a little cramped, and is definitely no-frills compared to other fancier health clubs, but this gym is absolutely fantastic. The best part of Urban Boxing DC is the staff. Each trainer is different but all of them make each class great. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, young or old, a little out of shape or a ninja warrior, the instructors challenge everyone in each a class to push themselves in a constructive way. This gym is super welcoming. This is my third week. It has a communal vibe to it. Burak & Co. are great instructors, and Ricky's class in particular is as much of a dance club as it is a tough 1200 calories burn workout. I highly recommend Ricky class on Monday and Wednesday evenings. They don't mess around here -- you'll get your ass kicked, you'll learn great technique without feeling stupid when you're a beginner (ask questions!), and you'll feel like you're a part of something. I've immediately seen results in my boxing technique, my strength, and my conditioning. They try hard to fit your budget, but honestly, this is worth every penny if you go at least three times a week. I leave every class feeling amazing. read more

This place is great! I've only gone for their boxing classes, but I've watched parts of the other classes that they offer like kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu and I've been tempted to give those a shot too. I always feel like I've worked my butt off every time I've finished a class there. Ricky's boxing class is especially great to get the blood pumping after a long day sitting at a desk. Also, as many others have noted, the gym is kept very, very clean. The membership cost is a fixed amount per month that allows you to go to an unlimited number of classes, so the more you go, the better the deal for you. read more

I am so glad this place exists. Most "boxing" classes at regular gyms are a joke...disorganized, thrown together in a room better suited for yoga, led by a general instructor. This gym is the complete opposite. Classes are led by experts, in a space where everyone has their own heavy bag. Great for beginners looking to start out, and people with more experience looking for instruction on technique. It can get crowded but that only speaks to how welcoming the place is. And there's options for one-on-one training too, both "personal training" and private lessons. I almost hesitated to write this review because it means I have to share this great spot, but the owner and staff work like crazy to make it amazing so it's worth broadcasting about it to the world! read more

This gym is brand new and it is my new favorite thing about DC. First off the entire staff is so kind and they help motivate you and will go over techniques for those with little or no experience. They also do a pretty good job of learning everybody's name which is a plus! Secondly they offer a FREE first class. They have a pretty good selection of classes, from Muay Thai Boxing, kickboxing, crossfit, and yoga. Also the gym is open for members to use even if they are not looking to partake in a class. Thirdly, these workouts kick my butt, and I feel stronger and fitter than ever before. It is more fun and a better workout than just going to the gym for an hour. read more

This place is incredible! When I walked in for my first class, Burak was super welcoming and helpful in getting me ready for the workout - and it was a super great, really tough workout! I've done the appalachian trail, and that was nothing compared to the workout I got at this gym, absolutely the best hour of training I've ever had. I've never taken a boxing class before, but Burak pulled myself and a few other newbies aside for a little individual coaching, which was really helpful! The class certainly didn't even feel like an hour - I was so "in the zone" and the class instructor was incredibly motivating, even as we came toward the end of the class, we kept ramping up the intensity. Seriously, if you're looking for a new or different gym, I'd highly suggest checking this place out. Really clean, professional, helpful people. And if you're a girl (like me), you won't feel intimidated or like you don't belong; about half the people in the class were girls, and I felt super welcome by everyone there. Going to this gym is the best part of my day. It's also the most intense and best endurance workout I've ever done. Period. It's a great, positive, and encouraging environment with some very talented instructors. I take a 20-30min metro ride to get here every day and it's 100% worth it. I've really been enjoying the classes with Ricky. He focuses a lot on helping you develop the fundamentals you need as a beginner, as well as touching on some of the psychological aspects of boxing (e.g. controlling your facial expressions, etc.) Great positive energy that gets me pumped up and keeps me coming back. read more
