Sun Fresh was the first place we visited while in Vancouver. We appreciate that they take credit cards and also the variety they have available. My only drawback is that they don't have anywhere to sit. We ate our buns standing up outside the bakery. Def will be back when we are in town! read more

I learned about Sun Fresh Bakery House from a video on IG and when I searched Yelp to bookmark it I was even more excited because of the great reviews. I walked over while exploring Downtown Vancouver and it was easy to find. I had fun looking at the variety of items and wanted to get one of everything, but knew I didn't have the stomach space to enjoy it or the space to take it back home to California with me. I ended up getting BBQ Pork Rice Noodles (5.95), Siu-Mai ($5.95), Pan Fried Dumplings ($5.95), and a couple other items from the shelves that I forget the names/prices for. The person helping me was friendly and put my order in for the hot items. They packed it up for me and made sure to include sauces and asked if I needed forks. I made it back to my hotel and when I opened the items they were hot and fresh and I was surprised by the portion sizes- so generous for the price. Everything was delicious and the rice rolls were my favorite. I would absolutely recommend trying this spot and I'm excited to visit Vancouver again so I can stop back in. read more

Rating: We snuck into Sun Fresh Bakery House just before closing on New Year's Day, and I am so glad we did! The atmosphere was clean and tidy--a gloriously typical Chinatown bakery. Even though the staff was in the middle of closing up, we were greeted very kindly. We had only one thing on our mind: Egg Tarts. We ordered four to go and started eating them as we walked down the street. I have to say, these are the best egg tarts I have ever had! The crust was beautifully crisp and buttery, paired with a silky, egg-forward custard that wasn't too sweet. They were clearly fresh-made, and the price was incredibly affordable. We originally tried to go to a different bakery based on Yelp reviews, but they were closed for the holiday. We did eventually try the other spot later, but Sun Fresh remains our absolute favorite. This is a must-visit in Vancouver's Chinatown! read more

So I saw this place featured on someone's instagram so ordered a whack of food on a Friday afternoon from UberEats. They close at 6pm, and I ordered around 3:30pm. Firstly, this place is ridiculously cheap, but they are not chintzy with the serving sizes nor the meat! Holy doodle, it is a carb and meat bonanza, lol! The pork rice noodle was free with a $30+ purchase and it was actually pretty tasty and very generous with the pork! The fish congee was packed with fish & had good flavour. No chIves or cilantro garnish was included, so ideally you have some in your fridge. But otherwise quite tasty. My favourite was the sticky rice wrap with lotus leaves (containing Chinese sausage). Wow, that was really delicious. The pork chives bun was HUGE, and also delicious. The bun was fluffy, light and tender - not remotely gummy nor dry, and with just a hint of sweetness. Very generous with the meat filling!! Really tasty. The spicy pickled mustard pork buns were good, but not "spicy" in the Scoville way. An interesting flavour that worked well with the fluffy bun. The dumplings: they were all quite massive, and generously filled. But they are "rustic" in style, so as long as you aren't expecting the delicate wrapper of the fancy dim sum spots, you should be fine. The Siu Mai was a bit overcooked, but the flavour was fine. And again, all of them had a ridiculous amount of tasty meat filling for the rock bottom prices! Not much in the way of vegetables, so just enjoy the carbs and protein! read more

I needed a quick bite and didn't want the same OUT ole burger and fries . If you love dim sum and pastries taste like what your mom or grandma used to make, this is the place to go. You can even see the staff making tasty dumplings in the back. Food: 5/5 - fresh ingredients and tasty food that has customers lining out the door. My favourite is the salted deep fried dumpling and pan fried bun. Visiting Vancouver from California and I am so glad we dropped by in the morning. Everything was fresh and generously portioned. We tried so many different pork buns and they were all good. The dim sum tasted better than the restaurant that we went to near by. Staff were straight to the point because of the long lines but I was impressed by how many languages they spoke. I wish we had a bakery like this near my hometown. It was so good that we went twice. I would post pictures but all the pictures I have are of my family and me with half eaten food. I had to pick up post game snacks, and thought buns/pastry/rice balls would be a great snack. Matcha Rice Balls with sweet bean was a hit, it was very heavy and so soft. Sesame Crips cookies/Chicken Cookies- These are savoury sweet cripsy/chewy cookies that were very popular in southern china. Sun Fresh version has a twist of intense ginger. If you are a ginger lover, this is for you. Best served toasted. I've tried a few things over the years, although nothing is extraordinary. Everything is fresh. There's a few steam cakes that are super traditional and aren't made in most Chinese bakeries nowadays. Many people were ordering steam dishes (rice rolls with meats etc...) Came here to get my fix of bao. And I also wanted to try some dumplings. Be very careful of the dumplings you order. The steamed bao was humongous and filled with pork, deliciousness. We were excited about the pineapple bun, but it was empty inside which was pretty disappointing. We also ordered pork shumai, and it was delicious and filling; however, I also ordered dumplings and it was filled with mystery meat. I took one bite and I'm not exactly sure what I bit into but it was fishy and not good. Thankfully, there's plenty of homeless people around so I don't feel like I wasted the food. This is one of my friend's favorite Cantonese bakery in Vancouver and I think he stops by here every time. He always grab a couple of the steamed pork buns, each costs under CA$3 and the size of a person's face. Sadly, I did not grab one this time around, but I got to try a bit of it and it was fresh, warm, and the pork was juicy and flavorful. I tried the egg tart (the shell was too soft and not crispy, but the custard was good), char siu bao (yum!), wife cake (had coconut bits in it? Definitely different than what I'd imagine), and a green tea mochi that's been rolled in coconut flakes and stuffed with red bean (this was so yum, would definitely recommend). The people who own the bakery are Taishanese but can also speak Cantonese! Nice and friendly. Everything was cheap and tasty. They accept card here. read more

saw other reviews and thought I'd give it a try , bought a bunch of items for take out, sesame ball with red bean inside, bolo bao, ham sui gook, egg custard tart, and a sticky rice wrap. Food was very good and just as good as other more expensive chinese bakery's. As well this has some other lunch items. I am extremely disappointed by the behavior of one of your cashiers today, August 29th. My elderly mother purchased some dim sum in-store. As she was in a hurry, she placed the money on the counter and told the cashier it was payment for her items. Shockingly, the cashier responded by insulting her and even said "eat shit" in Chinese -- which my mother heard very clearly. This kind of language and disrespectful behavior is absolutely unacceptable and outrageous. As long-term customers, we are disgusted and deeply upset by this experience. How could anyone representing your business speak to a customer in such a rude and degrading manner? read more

Some of the best prices in Chinatown for Chinese baked goods. Even though there's always a line, it moves quickly. You can get enough food for lunch for under $10 easily, which is really hard to do in Vancouver. Plus, the sweet buns aren't sickeningly sweet. Other dessert places make things pretty while piling on the sugar. Here, it's just straight up quality baked goods at a reasonable price. Whenever I'm in the Chinatown area, I always stop here and support this business. It's been around a long time and is great for the community. I hope it sticks around for years longer. read more

They're on Uber eats! My mom used to stop by this store to bring home their rice rolls and freshly made steamed buns; but I was so happy to see this on an app! I ordered: - Preserved egg congee 4/5: nicely done for the price of $5 it's hard to complain about congee - fried dough: remember to add this to your list if you're ordering congee-- they go together like pb&j - Chicken bun 4/5: fresh and still warm when they arrived - Rice rolls 3.5/5: I ordered the mushroom chicken but it was a bit heavy for me with a small appetite. The rice noodle rolls here are delicious. They are freshly made to order and come in a very portions. It comes steaming hot, with lots of meat and the perfect soy sauce cup to go. The bbq pork one is better than the shrimp one here, even though I usually like shrimp rolls better. They also had a bunch of other baked goods out on display. It's a small shop but it looks clean and well kept. Ladies that helped us were super nice and gave us advice on what to order! read more

I have these delivered several times and here is my feedback: BBQ Pork Rice Noodle - soft and chewy, right amount of bbq pork and they nail the sauce. Just enough sweet and saltiness. Steamed Red Bean Bun - I love red bean bun and when I saw this on the menu, I had to order it. It was still warm when it arrived. Teochew Dumpling - my favourite always from Sun Fresh. Like, I literally have to order this every single time. There is a slight tang to the filling and it is something to definitely try if you haven't already. Saw a long line of people inside this bakery and decided to stop in. It smells so good in there. I noticed the people in line were all ordering baos. By the time I got to the front of the line, they had just run out of Bola Bola (#5 I think) baos so I bought a coconut dusted mochi stuffed with peanuts & sesame seeds. The mochi was hefty and had the perfect texture & chewiness. Stopped by around 4pm-ish the next day and bought their last 2 Bola Bola baos. They are huge, meat was flavorful, and breading was soft and pillowy. Go and get you some baos and mochi! read more

The coconut milk buns are delicious one of the few bakery that can make them right. The pineapple coconut is another great bun had to stock up on these buns before crossing the border back to Oregon where we don't have anything like these since I remembered as a kid. Only bakery that accepted credit cards with $5 or more purchase two buns and your over the minimum bought all the coconut buns! Nice friendly staff and u can see them making more buns in the back. Rice Rolls. Get it here! We literally stumbled into this bakery, and I took a quick look on Yelp to see what my fellow yelpsters favored here, and we went for it: the rice rolls. Thank you, ya'll did not disappoint! If you're here in the area for that famous Chinese Chinese bakery, come on by here afterwards and order rice rolls to go, for later. Granted I'm no expert for rice rolls, but these were definitely delicious. Unless you don't like thick noodles, you will not regret it. 10/10. I heard lots of good thing about this place and decided to go there during my day off. I went there on Thursday around 11am and it had quite long line up. I ordered the rice rolls (pork), porridge (beef), siumay, fried sticky rice, buns (#11 and #16). First thing came to mind when I entered the store, how come all the bread are sooo cheap! they are so big lol. Anyway I need to wait for 5-10min for my beef porridge but other than that everything is ready on their big steamer. This review is based on my personal opinion. 1. Pork rice rolls Generous portion with cheap price. Eventho the rice cake is little bit thick, but it's okay, tastewise is still good! They also super generous with the pork inside. One thing tho, I think I need to ask for extra sauce in the future. 2. Beef Porridge Honestly I ordered the beef porridge because I don't like the century egg :p. They will offered you if you want to add green onion and pepper (and please say yes!). There's no seasoning at all on the beef (I couldn't taste anything). if only they put little bit salt pepper on the beef, this porridge will be perfect! I love the porridge itself. 3. Siumay Very thick and generous in meat. and sooo cheap!!! Little bit dry since I didn't eat them right after I bought it. Taste-wise is good, but it will be better if it has a sauce to dip-in. -- it just me who love to dip siumay in chili oil/siracha/even just ketchup 4. Fried sticky rice My least favourite from what I had. The pork smell is sooo strong and it is so heavy! It ends-up I re-cook this sticky rice at home and it become fried rice (hahahaha! I added some cilantro,prawn,egg, soy sauce and just 1/4cup of cooked white rice). it becomes really good! 5. Buns The buns is sooo huge! So many meat inside and taste are really good. I was supposed to buy something from New Town bakery but they were too busy. So I ended to buy snack here. What I noticed first was their danish bread are huge. Twice big of my hand. And lots of variety of pre-made to go dim sum. There was stainless steel hot pot near the cashier and they serves congee in front of you. And there is small corner near window that you can have those light snack sitting stools. Literally quick eating spot but I really want to try next time so that I can have mind trip in Hong Kong. read more

This is a hole in the wall Chinese bakery. They have all the standard baked goods: pineapple bond, coconut buns what you expect it is offered. The bake daily with fresh bread and buns offered every day. They even have savory items like noodles, taro Turnovers. The quality is what expect and the price is affordable. As I'm a big fan of pork buns, I was happy to see them here; there are also many sweet buns, Chinese donuts and savory items. In the end, I ended up going with the $5 pork dumplings (6 in a package). They tasted good and had a good portion of meat. However, I'd like to try the soup dumplings here as well. I bet they're good here. Up early because of jet lag, I wandered over to Chinatown and ended up here because it had the best selection early in the morning of the three bakeries I visited. The 包 with pork and egg yolk was forgettable, but the 蛋撻 was decent fresh out of the oven. I just wish the crust had been a little flakier instead of just crumbly. The matcha mochi was an incredibly pretty green. The shell had a nice strong tea flavor and was nice and soft. The red bean filling was smooth and flavorful. Adding a star. Visited Sun Fresh again on my recent trip to Vancouver and found some new finds worth mentioning. Finally got to try the rice noodles that I missed out trying on my previous visit. They were good. Large enough to be a light meal and excellently priced. I think it was $2 something. The flavor was fine, but I would suggest sprinkling a little soy or chili pepper sauce for better enjoyment. The jau gok which are rice flour dumplings, brought back memories of the days when my grandmother used to make these for me to enjoy. Microwaving the dumplings is okay, but steaming these when you bring them home is best. Lastly, the green tea mochi with coconut shavings on top and bean filling in the middle is my favorite find thus far here. Less than $1 for a large gooey piece. Great tasting, cheap and big. The three things that would lead to a five star review from me which I do not give out too much. Sun Fresh is getting to this plateau, but is not quite there just yet. read more

Glad I found this place! Authentic and affordable. Got 3 pineapple buns (bo lo baos) for $2.70 (their label says mini but they're regular-sized)!! Also bought a taro+coconut bun for $1.45. It was soft and big, not sweet (flavour is more subtle), lots of taro and shredded coconut. Will be back for more goodies (bread, steamed buns , rice rolls, etc)! read more

Cheap and delicious baked goods. Tried their pork and vegetable whole wheat steamed bao and it was delicious. Also, the bun is massive. One bun is just enough, but possibly a little bit too much. The meat inside is juicy and there's plenty of vegetables in it. I like how they have an option with the whole wheat bun. This was a very satisfying bao. I definitely recommend checking them out. I finally remembered to exchange for Canadian cash so we could come to this bakery - the pastries were already great (including fresh baked egg tarts) but the hot food was even better! We had the congee and a few more savory dishes. The kids said it was the best meal they've had in awhile. Will be back again each time we're in town! read more
