Of all the Brekas I've been to - and I've been to a lot, as I'm a huge fan! - this one is my least favorite. I was meeting a friend here yesterday who's visiting from California, and when deciding on a meeting place, we realized a bunch of the Gastown coffee roaster places were closed on Sunday, so I mentioned Breka , knowing it was opened 24/7. (LOVE this!). Plus, this site is close to Waterfront Station, and my friend had a busy day planned, taking the Seabus to N.Van and doing a lot of sightseeing. So this Breka was perfect. I was there early at 10 am-ish, and from the outset, I was impressed: exposed brick wall, long counter and display case, fully stocked with the most beautiful pastries and tarts and cakes, and lovely looking sandwiches, too....Just lovely. I ordered a tea from the guy taking the orders. At the check-out, the woman working the cashier was the most unfriendly, aloof person I have ever encountered at a Breka. She was downright dour. Never looked up, never smiled, said I owed X for the tea I ordered, gave me a receipt and said I was "number 3", no "thank you" (despite my saying thanks!), nothing. She looked really unhappy and bothered to be there. (I sat at a nearby table, waiting for my number to be called. I saw her interactions with all the people behind me - and there were quite a few, as it got suddenly busy in the cafe. She was cold and unfriendly to everyone in line as she rang them all up. These are mostly tourists! Why have a dour, borderline-hostile woman at the check-out counter of a busy cafe in a touristy part of our city? I just don't get it). Anyhow, I waited 10 minutes to hear my number called, but I never heard it. I walked up to the take-out area and there was my tea, on a receipt that said "number 3". Did they call out my number? I honestly don't know. I was seated at a table a few feet from the area and listening for my number and I didn't hear it called. I was not impressed with this set-up. Not at all. My friend arrived and got a chocolate concoction which looked amazing, and he loved it, so there's that. I still love Brekas but I probably won't return to this site. Between the cold experience at the cash and the prolonged waiting for my order (a cup of tea!), and not being sure if my order number was ever called, it just all left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. read more

Can't believe this place has so many good reviews. Our experience was chaos. This cafe is near the cruise terminal and if you are visiting near on a day when ships are arriving or departing you can expect the same. Nowhere to sit. Crowded and we waited a long time for our food which was made one item at a time. The display looks gorgeous but don't be fooled. We had a matcha cream puff pastry which was frozen inside which leads me to believe the items are not made fresh. The almond croissant tasted stale. Coffee and lattes were good however and the toasted ham and cheese sandwich was also good. TLDR: Ambience: crowded. FOOD: Average. I'd have preferred we stopped elsewhere. read more

Went here on a Saturday morning and it was packed. There was a short line to order but there were plenty of people sitting at every table and there was a short wait for my food and drink after ordering White chocolate mocha latte: 2/5 the coffee flavor on this was pretty strong which I didn't love as someone who likes really sweet lattes. I also didn't like that you could barely taste any white chocolate flavor at all Pistachio filled donut: 3/5 this was decent, lots of cream on the top and the inside. It was too sweet for me though Cretzel ham and cheese melt: 4/5 this was my favorite item here. They even warmed it up and cut it in half. I also like that it came with a pickle The other food looked really good too and I would've been willing to go back to try food or the smoothies if I was in town longer. Brekka Bakery is an absolute must-visit in Vancouver! Everything we tried was fresh and delicious, from the buttery scones to the pastries and expertly made coffee. The menu has so many tempting options that it's hard to choose just one. I only wish I had more time in Vancouver so I could have gone back to try even more. Loved the tiramisu and matcha cheesecake. We also got the lychee rose tea which was very light and refreshing. The main thing that stands out is that this bakery is 24 hours. We went at 12am when we just landed in Vancouver since nowhere else was open and we were not disappointed. On this visit I chose a mango passionfruit filled donut. The dough was soft and the filling was flavourful. The coconut shavings on the top added to the taste. Date of visit: July 16, 2025 When looking for alternatives to the crazy expensive hotel breakfast, I stumbled across this 24-hour gem, and I am so glad I did! It always seems to be busy, which is really the hallmark of a great restaurant, and the quality of the food and staff friendliness drives that point home. Staff use tablets to take your order at the counter, which is good because there are so many items you want to try that you keep adding things as you go down the line. I went with a ham and cheese cretzel, and it. Was. Fantastic. For dessert I added a Vanilla Donut Bite and I am hard-pressed to think of a better way to finish a meal, the slight crunch on the outside mixing with the soft vanilla underbelly. Breka's sandwiches are affordable, heartwarming and delicious. It is my go-to lunch when I need to work in the area. Even though it is a chained bakery, Breka is still able to uphold their great quality. Visiting Vancouver and looking for a place for lunch. This place is known for it's pastries, but they also have good selection of sandwiches and soup. It was Monday, around 1:30pm and there was a line when we got there. The line moved reasonably quick, when you got in front of the pastry case there was someone their to take your order. (it had the hurried pace of some delis that I have eaten at). The place was crowded, but we did manage to snag a small table, which was a bit tight for the 3 of us. We ordered, Spinach and Artichoke Pocket, Vegetable Soup, and a couple Tuna Melts. They heated the Pocket, with a Panini Press (not my favorite method), so the entire sandwich was a little too dense for my liking. (It did have good flavor). The Tuna Melts were also heated in a similar way but they were on bread. They were also good too. The desserts looked very impressive, but were too full to try. Next time? It's a decent place for food, but not an especially relaxing atmosphere. read more

Friendly and super fast service since they were quite busy. Matcha isn't too sweet but good enough. Prob needs a little more matcha flavor. It's very light and I would prefer to have a stronger matcha flavor/taste. There were plenty of bakeries and pastries as well as a huge selection of donuts. One of my fave cafes in downtown. Popped in for breakfast and had a perfect coffee, and tried a few different sweet pastries. Also the breakfast egg sandwich on the croissant. Everything was phenomenal. In case you aren't feeling something sweet they also have savory sandwiches and salads. The inside is super cute and there are small tables throughout. It was a beautiful day in Vancouver so I do wish they had outdoor seating but not a biggie. I also love that this place is 24/7 as I have come to realize many establishments close down earlier than I am used to. read more

We came here three times on our short three day trip in Vancouver! The pastries are phenomenal and the price is unbelievable! It is always busy with long lines but it moves quickly. The biggest perks of this bakery is that they're open 24/7 and the second one is that they have so many sweet and savory treats that you can enjoy. And the third one is that the taste and quality of the treats are very good. We came here on an evening and ordered coffee with some delicious desserts and enjoyed them. Then we ordered some breakfast sandwiches and croissants for takeout. I strongly recommend "Ham & Cheese Melt" and "Chocolate & Almond Croissant". I come here every time I'm in Vancouver. It gets crowded around 9am and there's a line. The service staff is efficient but it's awful for someone like me who is unsure what to choose. I had the matcha and Earl Grey puffs boxed up to take to go to my work, and decided to eat the sandwich and oat milk latte inside the store. They do heat up sandwiches for you but I had to check the counter as I couldn't hear the staff. Also The area around the drinks counter was crowded and I was waiting for my number but couldn't hear the staff. I understand that it's crowded because it's a popular place, but it's not a relaxing place at all. I recommend the matcha puffs and the Cretzel ham & cheese melt. The blueberry lime mascarpone cake was too sour and didn't have much mascarpone flavour. The mango passionfruit donut filling was ok but the frosting was cake frosting which was too sweet, not donut frosting. We went to the West End location at 10pm on a Wednesday and it was so packed there was no space to sit. read more

Breka is a popular Vancouver spot for coffee, bread, donuts, and pastries. They have 7 locations that are open 24/7/365. This location is quite busy. Around 9am on a weekday there was a line. However it moved quickly, but not too quickly that you didn't have time to examine their beautiful display case stuffed full of pastries. The cafe space here is very modern, with tall ceilings and sleek black bench booths. The pickup area where you wait for your items is awkward and crowded - it would be nice if they figured out a better system for this. I got a matcha cream puff, egg bites, and a coffee. The cream puff was huge and tasted delicious. The other two were more normal and I would probably not re-order them. So I guess the moral of the story is when you go to Breka, choose to indulge. read more

This place has some great coffee drinks but the baked goods really standout. The scones are very good.

Another location of one of the best local coffee chains around town. Parking is pretty awful here. But it's close to Waterfront station. Inside is packed, like all their other locations. This one has a more modern interior compared to the other locations, with their fancy light fixtures. Staff are friendly and quick. Can't really go wrong with anything here. They do have sandwiches and cakes, both of which I imagine are pretty good (I've tried them at the other locations). read more

Stopped by on our way home to the States and found everything to be delicious. Recommend the apricot chicken sandwich and kufle. This is easily the best bakery we tried in Vancouver. Street parking is limited near by but plentiful if you're willing to walk a block. read more
