Just around the corner from the Oxford hotel and Cruise Room, the Urban Farmer is a modern steak restaurant which boasts the highest quality beef. Andrew our server was friendly and eager to tell us the history of the restaurant and the origins of the beef. We ordered the tempura squash blossoms (yum!), cheesesteak sandwiches and a burger which both came with the most tasty fries. Between our appetizer and main entrees, Andrew brought us a freshly baked blue cornbread and butter to share and it was the tastiest morsel!--packed with flavor, fluffy, and subtly sweet. Went on a Saturday night with 3 girlfriends. Didn't seem exceptionally busy, but the host insisted he didn't have a table for us and sat us at a high top cocktail table. While friendly, the service was incredibly slow. Took forever for anything to come out. The server apologized a couple of times. Shrimp cocktail was great. Mixed green salad was fine- small and underwhelming. One of our oysters was definitely not good (bubbled up when poked) and had to be sent back, but they replaced it no questions asked. The steak came out very undercooked and it would've been nice to have it sliced for us as it was being shared. They took it back to the kitchen to cook it to temp, while our sides remained on the table getting cold. Came for restaurant week and definitely enjoyed one of the upgraded steaks. My husband gave me a hard time for not upgrading his skirt steak, lol, in my defense, I shared with him my Wagyu! It is so incredibly tender, juicy, and beefy. Perfectly cooked with that meaty sear and it didn't need much seasoning to be a killer dish. The skirt steaks were not worth it. Neither were the desserts. So instead of coming for restaurant week, we'll just come and order the Wagyu, enjoy the cornbread and maybe a salad. I stopped here on a food tour. It's a place I wouldn't normally have tried. I don't like whiskey but this old fashioned was amazing with hints of pecan. It was made with bullet rye. It was really pricey. In term of portion. The steak seems smaller than the ounce listed. Dont quote me on it. But it wasnt the best steak for that price. There is no salt or pepper on the table. The wife and I had a great weekend brunch experience here. My first time total, my wife's first brunch there. Alex was our bartender, and gave us flawless service. He was perfectly efficient without being intrusive, very knowledgeable about the menu, and had a great personality. For drinks, I had the Two Hearted IPA, and she had the fun-reading drink, Bunny Radio. I even liked the Bunny Radio drink. Unique taste without overpowering sweetness. I ordered the burnt ends Benedict, and she had the tri-tip steak and eggs. They also had escalating other options for the steak and eggs for you people needing a bigger plate or a better version of the selected steak. I was glad Alex was a hot sauce person himself, and also glad they had some off-the-beaten path (not my favorite when a place only has Tabasco and Cholula). The place has a really cool circular bar area. Plus, you are kind of centrally located when sitting here, instead of being in a corner. You wouldn't go here TO see a sporting event, but they had a TV on either side of bar with sports on, so you at least can watch one thing. The dining room is split, and both options were elegant looking. They had a HUGE outdoor patio. Given the 100 degree day, there was predictably no one out there on this day. Fun music in the background...energetic to give the place uplifting atmosphere, but not overpowering you during your meal. Our meals were really good too. I perused the rest of the menu, and they have some interesting stuff on there. Not just your standard selections. I already know what I am getting next time...that Benny with pimento cheese on it. We choose to treat ourselves with Urban Farmer on Christmas day with dinner reservations. The meal was $95 pp before drinks and gratuities, with several choices in each course. Each table started with a cheese and charcuterie board. We both chose lobster bisque, followed by your main entrees: prime rib and NY strip steak. We shared sides and ordered cheesecakes and butter cake to end the meal. While all the servers and staff were kind, tonight didn't highlight the best of what likely is a great steakhouse. Execution was fair at best. The sides and cheese/charcuterie board were the stars. Our entrees and desserts were mediocre, sadly. I was hoping they would've been the stars. When we asked to have our food packed to go, small details were overlooked. My prime rib wasn't packed with its au jus or horseradish. I was hoping the warm cheesecake would be better once I was able to chill it overnight, but it was still without personality. When spending upwards of $250 on one meal, we expected more. We didn't wait to be seated but we did wait often at our table for drinks and/or to request other things. It felt like the staff were trying their best to keep up but just couldn't. FANTASTIC!!! We were in town with a large group for a wedding. Stopped in after a Rockies game with about 12 people an hour before close (the worst- I know) but the restaurant accommodated us and was SO attentive the whole time!! Drinks were full, always . We ordered some appetizers (oysters, crab claws, and charcuterie) and the filet tasting. If this restaurant was in our hometown, it would be a go-to! TikTok brought us in, but their service and food will bring us back. Staff was incredible and on top of everything. We sat at the bar and started off with the Farmer #4, it was ahhhmazing. The grapefruit ice keeps it from getting watered down, but it was so refreshing and delicious we didn't let the ice melt much. The charcuterie was a tad smaller than I anticipated, but the selections were thoughtful. The greens they grew themselves. Cheese was delicious as was the salami. We had ordered the Burrata salad as a starter, I went with the 12oz NY Strip w/bearnaise as my main and we got 3 sides. Sides were the grilled asparagus, mac n cheese, and mash potatoes. Burrata salad was delicious...mix of greens, crunch of the peas and noodles, slight tasty hint of seasoning that went well with the burrata. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful. Sides were all good too. The lemon/salty crunch on the asparagus gave it a good flavor with texture of the salt. The mac and cheese was super cheesy, interesting noodle type, and can't go wrong with panko crust. For the mash potato, that can be a skip next time. Overall, fantastic service and food. We stopped in for drinks and a snack on a Sunday afternoon. Our drinks were very good. I had the butter pecan old fashioned and the butter pecan was just enough to taste it but not be overpowering. We also had the cheese and charcuterie boards combined. Everything on the board was really tasty though a little more would be nice for the price ;) For a real treat, you have to head downstairs and check out the women's restroom. I really don't want to leave this review because I used to love this restaurant but here goes--Last night we did a group dinner to celebrate a special occasion (during restaurant week). Although the food was great, as usual, the service was extremely disappointing. After waiting 25 mins past our reservation time for our table (for which not even a 'sorry' was given), everything was a complete mess. The majority of the table ordered from the restaurant week menu but a few did not. We had to ask several times, and waited over 45 mins, for many of our group to even be given water glasses and it was over an hour and a half before main courses (and our oyster appetizer??) were served. This meant we weren't even served dinner until the restaurant was supposed to be closed--through no fault of our own. The restaurant was not even very busy. Then, after dinner was served our waiter asked if the restaurant week menu part of group "still wanted their dessert?"--which, of course they did as they had paid for it and was included in their meal? One of our group went to the bathroom and heard a few of the staff loudly complaining about our table and how they'd "never get out because of us"--as if the HUGE delay in service and 2.5 hours sitting there was somehow our fault--we paid and were out within 5-10 mins of finishing dessert. All in all, we were extremely frustrated with how slow everything was, the lack of any considerate service by any of the staff, and the comments made/blamed on us that were entirely the fault of the restaurant. The food here is great, but I honestly doubt any of us will be back after that. read more

Bartender Noah and Server Extraordinaire Sara made this place awesome. Our party of 4 were greeted and seated at the bar, where we enjoyed lime gimlets, the "Painkiller", a glass of Malbec and an outstanding Old Fashioned made with Denver-distilled whiskey (the name escapes me...but so good). All were made perfectly and facilitated the walk to our table immensely. Once seated, Sara coached us through menu options (including gluten free, vegetarian and what could be "modified" to be GF or veg - so helpful!). Beef Carpaccio and Ahi Crudo apps were good, with the carpaccio solid but needing just a touch more spice IMO. The venison, veggie mushroom, filet and ribeye were excellent, with props to the venison (my order) which was seared proper with perfect salt and pepper combo. Desserts of cobbler (GF!), ice cream and an espresso martini (judge not...) topped off a perfect meal. I was visiting my friend and we celebrated his birthday with a beautiful dinner thank you to the great wonderful friendly staff that wrote a special birthday note to my friend. And we so enjoyed our restaurant week meal! What a feast! The wine was prefect. And the beer tartare was so yummy. And we both had the steak special wow! Service was great. Drinks a bit expensive, but it's downtown Denver after all. My wife's black cod (the main reason we came here) was fantastic. Otherwise known as sablefish, it was absolutely perfect, not easy to find with seafood in Colorado. I eat a lot of bison, so I decided to try a cut I've heard about in food articles for years, the Terres Major. It was unfortunately, a big disappointment. It was prepared a perfect medium rare, even on the thinner ends, but it was just not a good cut of meat. It was very tough and chewy, almost rubbery. I didn't send it back because I didn't want to hold our part up and it wasn't the chefs fault anyway, but that cast a bad light on an otherwise great dinner. Our friends had to leave early too, so I barely mentioned it to the server so we could head out. If this is the consistency of the meat, this should not be on their menu. As I said, I eat buffalo all the time, actually prefer it to beef, and none of the cuts I make at home are like this one. I'll try them again, but I'll order something different for sure. read more

We came to Urban Farmer with high hopes. When you walk in, it is clear that it's a modern steakhouse--beautiful decor, upscale, and beckoning you to have a great meal. Our server Eila was very sweet, knowledgeable, and paved the meal well. We had the salmon crudo which I thought was delicious but a bit fishy. The blue cornbread was fantastic! We also got the 12oz New York strip and the 8oz filet, as well as the mushrooms (yum!) and mashed potatoes (double yum!). Unfortunately, both were overcooked. We did have to wait some for another cut, which again mine was slightly over but it was still delicious. Who I assume is the manager (we didn't catch her name) was so generous with taking our steaks off our bill in addition to some other items which we did not expect, but definitely appreciated! Wow! This is a beautiful restaurant and a true treat. We came here for Christmas dinner for 2 on Christmas Day. The interior is beautiful and welcoming. The bar itself is set up like a trip back in time and is adorned with small touches that has you feel pampered. I would go back to have a happy hour treat for one any day. We made reservations on Open Table. We arrived an hour early and decided to have a cocktail in the speakeasy next door called the Cruise Room. I will write a separate review for this one. But the change of scenery 5 steps away without leaving the building on a rainy winters day was really cool. We returned to Urban Farmer at the hostess stand on time for our reservation and our table was ready. Once we were seated, it took 25 minutes to receive our first drink. This was not optimal but we survived. After that, we ordered a bottle of wine. The Chemistry Pinot Noir is sold by the glass or bottle here. We really enjoyed it. Once we ordered, the food service was swift. Although, we did have to ask for our charcuterie plate. That came out with our entrees. Of the food we ate, there were a few items that were exceptional. Everything else was good or very good. This was a special Christmas menu. I do want to go back to try the specialties. My filet was phenomenal. The Brussels sprouts were probably the best I have had. The desserts were good. The other sides were good. Cory was over the moon about the sweet potatoes, though. Went here on a recommendation from some friends. The interior is beautiful and we got a nice table by the window with 2 "love seat" couches which was kinda cool. Our waitress was super-friendly and attentive throughout dinner. Unfortunately it is just ridiculously overpriced. $19 for a small bowl of French Onion Soup. $18 for a garden salad they said 3 could share but it was maybe enough for 2. $56 for an 8 oz fillet that wasn't as good at the fillets from Sam's Club I cooked on my Big Green Egg at home a couple weeks ago. $6 for a tiny extra sauce. The family-style sides were at least as-advertised - easily large enough for 4 to share. Total bill with tip was more than $300 for 4 of us and no drinks. The entrees took about an hour to come out despite the restaurant not being full. Everyone was very apologetic about the delay. Everyone who had steaks loved them. The tasting menu definitely is worth it. The wagyu was phenomenal. I did try a piece. I had the bison meat sandwich and honestly it was a bit lack luster. The bread was burned and soggy probably becausenit was completed before thebsteaks and I found a hair that was definitely not mine in the cheese of the sandwich. My partner had the Flatiron and it was tender and delicious. If you come here, spend the money and get a steak. Otherwise the restaurant was relaxed with a quiet ambiance. Came across this restaurant while walking around Denver and what a little find. From the staff to the ambiance, all very impressive. All of the food is made fresh including the breads. For an appetizer we ordered the slow roasted pork belly...yum! And for dinner I ending up ordering a hamburger which isn't on the dinner menu but I saw it come out of the kitchen and was able to change my order with no problem. The burger bun was made fresh and was very tasty. I have to say I was most impressed by the fact that a variety of staff stopped by our table to take care of us. It didn't have to be our specific server. While my husband left the table for the men's room a different server approached our table, took his cloth napkin and refolded it into a beautiful shape right in front of me.
