Just needed a little study caffeine boost and I'm so glad I stopped at Urban Grind! The turtle mocha and grilled cheese were amazing and really, really well priced compared to other coffee places. They had a lot of different options as far as smoothies, other specialty coffees, teas, etc. and I definitely want to go back. The environment was perfect for catching up with a friend or studying on your own. They have board games, comfortable seating, and the noise level was relaxing. I just had the most amazing Cookies & Cream Frappuccino from this place OMG! Is there any way to lick the inside of the cup cuz I seriously want to right now!!! I'm not a big coffee drinker but I've also had the White Mocha Raspberry Frappuccino and during the winter I LOVE the Hot Cinnamon Caramel Apple Cider w/whipped cream. They also have great tea and the customer service is always good. The young lady who served us today was really really sweet and made such a beautiful drink it inspired me to take pictures and write this review. There's a tiny parking lot with about three spaces, but there's also free parking along Marietta St. The vibe inside is intimate & really cool ~ warm colors, funky furniture, unique artwork displayed by a rotation of artists, a book station to read while you chill out, free wifi, and even a music station. I like that they cater to independent artists. There's a nice varied menu of coffee house treats, including sandwiches & chips and ice cream. I really like this place. A step up from Starbucks in my opinion. I was able to use Scoutmob today for 50% off which was also really cool. They have various social events throughout the week, including open mic poetry and comedy night. I even noticed they had salsa lessons one night. read more

I've been meaning to stop by Urban Grind for a while because it's black owned and I heard really great things. I went to visit a couple days ago and I was really nervous about parking but it's in a great location and I was able to find street parking right out front. The staff and everyone inside were wearing masks. The inside is super cute and has couches as well as tables. I met a friend there and we were able to use the outdoor seating to get work done. We both ordered iced coffee, a chicken pesto sandwich as well as a mango and strawberry smoothie on the way out and everything was perfect!! For my iced coffee I added hazelnut and oat milk. The person who took my order was so sweet and allowed me to tell her how much milk I wanted in my drink. The sandwich took about 10 minutes and I would've waited longer for it because it was amazing. The coffee is good enough, and it's an aesthetically cute (albeit small) space. The staff meets the minimum standard for politeness as well. I've been a few times and recently decided not to return. While there is a sign on the door that says that they limit the number of people inside to 10, I counted more than 10 people inside. I also have been permanently turned off by the numerous people inside (all customers) without masks. Again, the size of the space is small, and having multiple customers maskless presents a risk that I am not willing to endure. I am disappointed that a local business who serves the community does not appear to implement a mask policy that protects the public health of the community they claim to serve. I should note that this is simply is my personal, review, & opinions regarding the experience I had at the coffee shop. I'm sure many people do not care to wear masks while dining out publicly, in a small space, with the risk of passing covid-19. I simply am not one of those customers, so I've chosen not to return and to let my friends and family know that the establishment houses maskless patrons, should they decide to go. read more

Had some time to kill so I decided to go a get a drink a gang out. Got there at 655 the sign on the door said they close at 930. The barista (if you can call him that) said they were closing. Weird. Either way we ordered 2 lattes. The steaming wand was a mess with days of caked on milk on it. He did not clean out the pitcher in between the two pour. His steaming technique was horrible. I've never seen someone move the pitcher around so much while paying attention to anything but what he was doing. Needless to say I refused to drink the latte and am currently looking for a place to throw it out. Why aren't there any garbages on the street in Atlanta. Do yourself a favor and go to Octane up the road. read more

cool spot to visit every now and then....i went there because i really wanted to go to an Open Mic event and heard that they had one every thursday night their website says it starts at 7 but each time i attended that wasnt the case more like 7:30 7:45 and even then people dont really start arriving until past 8 its not big at all and as the night goes on and more and more people pack in there to listen to the artist it gets realy HOT really quick my only complaint is that because its small an artist can be up there reciting their piece of work and the sweet loving sounds of the blender thats making the strawberry smoothie for the guest that has just arrived will gladly get on your nerves other than that i love that there is only a one drink min. requirement and everyone there is super friendly and nice to new comers read more

Let me start by saying this review has nothing to do with the quality of Urban Grind's actual food or drink menu; it has everything to do with tonight's free comedy night. To anyone who was in the audience: I'm the female who 65% of the Comics attempted to engage during their set. Perhaps it was because I sat at an optimal view, where they could see me clearly and I could see them. I sat towards the back, directly in the center of the room. There were no bodies in the way- just a clear, full view of the stage. To those Comics: this is directed only at one of you, but it couldn't hurt for all to read and reflect. Mike the Comic. Mike, you wore a blue long sleeved shirt and blue denim jeans. Your accent didn't seem Southern, and your ignorance was hard to navigate. Mike, you chose not to perform stand up comedy- you chose to bully. The crowd was thin and there I was, sitting right in front of you. You received the most laughs when you pointed at me, insulted me. I think that was the fuel to your fire. You were upset because of my demeanor, because I didn't laugh at jokes I thought were unfunny, because I didn't cave in and crack a smile while you were in the spotlight. Is there no etiquette in your field? I'd think you'd win over more people by making fun of yourself or people you know (who are either in the audience and are prepared for your material, or who are not present- like your daughter, who you mentioned several times). I'd think picking on someone in the crowd who you don't know anything about and attacking them was frowned upon. I'd think a true comic would understand the art of humility, when to press buttons, and when they've taken it too far. I'd think any human being would know when to stop. Mike, what if your bullying was the last straw for me? What if that was all the fight I had left in me, after years of bullying from people like you? Mike, what if I came out tonight with a heavy heart and my best foot forward, in hopes of being able to smile? All I wanted was to truly laugh. I've faked laughed and fake smiled one too many times. You closed your set with one final attack on me and then handed the mic back to the host, AK. I then got up and walked over to you, stared you in the eyes, and wished you happy holidays. I wanted to attack you physically and verbally. I wanted you to know just how bad I was hurting in that moment. Instead, I stared at you and wished you well. As I did this, you continued to press my buttons for a good laugh from the crowd. Congratulations, you got it. What's ironic is that I was set to leave earlier in the night, but the person I was with- my partner, by the way (remember when you told me that my problem was that I needed a man?)- convinced me to stay to hear you. "We'll leave after Mike," she said. I stayed to listen to you, and within 15 seconds of you grabbing the mic I became your target. Bullying must stop. How can you call yourself a Comic when you could have easily driven me off the edge, to the point of no return? Comics make people laugh and smile and forget about all the terrible things going on in their own lives. Instead, Mike, you reminded me of it all. Thank you. In the end, I'm glad I wished you well. Having looked my enemy in the eyes, I can rest easy knowing I did the right thing. I hope you rest easy knowing that I had enough strength in me to live one more day, survive one more bullying. To all the Comics, please reflect on this as you scramble for a quick laugh from the audience. You never know what someone is going through. You. Never. Know. While in town for training, I spotted Urban Grind en route to dinner with a few colleagues. Several days later, I finally swung back through the neighborhood to check out the little coffee joint, a self-proclaimed purveyor of Atlanta's premium coffee. Sadly, the place didn't do it for me. The coffee was alright and the barista seemed to know what he was talking about, which are plusses. However, when I asked if the difference between the mug of coffee and cup of coffee was ability to get refills and I was told "yes," a heads-up that each subsequent refill would cost me an additional dollar and change would have been nice. The furniture is largely old velour pieces (which is gross when you think about it for long...just sayin') but a couple two-top tables were open, and they served pretty well. The grilled cheese panini was good (yay!) but the "salmon burger" panini was kinda gross (boo!). Even the proprietary Black Forest Latte didn't make much of a splash, and so everything about the experience rounded down to the two stars. I may try back again sometime, but with Octane a couple blocks away, it's unlikely. read more

I really wanted to like this place I really did but after my second experience with them I refuse to come back . So last night my friend and I went and when I ordered everything went smoothly . My friend met up and came in like 10 minutes later , she ordered her coffee and this is where it goes down . My friend had never been to Urban Grind before so she had asked about the coffee the young boy responded with " I don't know I hate coffee" um say what ..but you're a barista ?! Then my friend attempted to give him 5 singles to get a 5 back because the kid said he was low in change and couldn't give her the right amount back from her original payment ( she had paid with a 20). The kid gets super flustered not being able to handle two transactions so my friend pays for coffee but never received it . Check this because the kid at the counter got flustered he told my friend and I that the supervisor(who wasn't there at the time) and him need to review cameras and if anything she'll be credited a free coffee AFTER reviewing the cameras . What the hell do you need to review cameras for ?!!! She didn't take money out the drawer or anything she was trying to help you out . At this point I was so angry and embarrassed because I had raved about how awesome this place was and then this happened . We ended up leaving and just hitting up Octane . Until this kid gets retrained or replaced I'm never coming back ever . read more

The woman working the counter has a major attitude problem. Throwing my card and the pen on the counter, screaming with a tone when I didn't get up immediately to pick up my coffee 3 seconds after she announced it the first time, rolling her eyes when I asked for the wifi password and writing it down almost completely illegible. She has overall poor communication and customer service skills. If I didn't have to get work done immediately I would have left without ordering anything. I'm definitely never coming back here and plan to tell all of my friends not to bother, either. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I am pretty biased against Urban Grind- my first coffee experience in the area was at Octane Coffee Bar, down the street, so I came in with high expectations. The thing is, Urban Grind and Octane are cut from a different cloth. Where Octane is more focused on the craft and coffee itself, Urban Grind is focused on community and satisfying those who know as little about coffee as they do. I've been here numerous times, due to its convenient location, and each time I have declared that I will not be returning. The first times I said that it was because the shop itself was overly crowded and loud; but this is because they host poetry readings and spoken words- nothing bad about that, just not my thing. When I came back during quieter and less busy hours I found an actual reason to dislike Urban Grind- their baristas have no idea what they're doing. If you ask for a triple latte they either have no idea what the hell you mean, or they ring you up for three lattes!! Aside from that, their caramel syrup tastes like metal. The last straw for me was when I chose a cheese Danish from the display case and it ended up tasting and feeling like drywall. The next day, scarred by my UG experience, I passed on a delicious looking cheese Danish from aurora, which apparently actually was as delicious as it looked. Overall, Urban Grind is a subpar coffee shop, and unless you want copious amounts of sugar in your poorly made latte, I would suggest finding other ways to fulfill your caffeine addiction. read more

Craving coffee, I yelped coffee shops and found this. The first time I drove by it, there wasn't anywhere possible to park, so I left. I came back three hours later, and it was still packed, but I was able to find a place. There was only one person working (that I could see), but everyone in there was sitting around, with coffee and a laptop, so more staff wasn't necessary. The cherry mocha I got is pretty good. It's easy for me to find coffee too bitter, but this coffee wasn't at all. I'd like to find an off-time to go back and sit down with a sandwich and a book. Seems like it'd be a nice place to chill out. read more

A bit ironic that a coffee place can't get there doors open by 9:00 AM on the weekend, perhaps they need some coffee. I pass by the spot everyday during my commute to work but never when i have time to actually check it out. I saw it on a reality TV series and figured i would check it out. Today my coworker and I checked it out at lunch and were both definitely satisfied with what we ordered as well as the service we received. I wish i had asked the server's name but i didn't. However, she was very helpful and nice. We ordered the Pesto Chicken sandwich and the Pepperoni Chicken sandwich along with a mango smoothie! All were delicious! read more

My issue is they are always out of items. I attempted to purchase a panini, they told me the turkey was frozen? I have never heard of such a thing at 3 in the afternoon. So not to be difficult, I asked for the salmon burger, they then said they were out of that. I ended up getting a cappuccino that was almost 4 dollars and 1/2 full in a 12 oz cup. I feel if you are going to carry items daily, you should be prepped when you only have limited choices anyway. read more
