I really like the artwork and music vibe. They do have a live band that was going to play however we didn't stay long enough. The service was great, our service gave us some great suggestions and came often to check on us. I had the Sailor's Secret drink and the Shrimp and Grits. Both were amazing, the cocktail had just the right amount of alcohol and the grits had thick pieces of bacon plus a good amount of shrimp. I was very impressed. Recently went here for brunch and mane o man! This place does it every single time (granted I've been there 2x) but each time they do it!! We came back from a workout and were starving. Pretty sure we came early but they were kind enough to sit us down. I did the restaurant week meal, $20. I got cranberry juice so it didn't really feel like a deal but if I got a mimosa probably would have felt like a deal! Our food was sooo good. My first time at the Urban was interesting lol. The vibe here can be a bit serious. The restaurant was clean well lit and decorated which I loved . My server wasn't bad just about much kind of loud and very direct. The space isn't that big so it could come off a bit intimidating. The food was amazing the French Toast were the best I've had with a sugar glaze that had my taste buds screaming . My husband got a burger and he said it was good as well. I was lucky to find parking across the street, but if you are taking the bus, it's super convenient. It was a quiet weeknight dinner, the menu is diverse with several vegan options with Southern staples as well. My friend and I shared everything and we're very happy. The bacon tasted like microwaved bacon And I didn't know the crème Brulé French toast I picked meant that it was going to taste burnt. I even asked is it supposed to taste burnt and my server replied " yes that's what crème brule is" the mimosa was nice. My wife and I came in here on a Friday at 6:30. We had reservations, but didn't really need them, as the restaurant wasn't very busy yet. More people started coming in after we had ordered, but it would have been easy to have secured a table just walking in. The bar is very nice with one TV and the ambience of the place is upscale. We were promptly greeted by our server who took our drink orders. I got a Blackberry Bramble with bourbon. I really liked it. It had just the right amount of sweetness that perfectly combined with the bourbon to make a good sipping cocktail. We ended up ordering the Farmer's Veg (vegetarian) for an appetizer. I assume the vegetable in this dish is seasonal, but I'm unsure. It ended up being roasted cauliflower with labneh and it was good. For my entree, I chose the Kung Pao Cauliflower (vegan). It's served with kale salad, spicy Thai chili and cashews. It was delicious and it had a good kick to it. My wife got the salmon with sides of green beans and macaroni and cheese. The sides were also good and she enjoyed her salmon. We didn't anticipate the size of the Mac and cheese, and we ended up taking the leftovers with us. For dessert, we had ordered the bread pudding but our sever accidentally put in for the blondie. We went ahead and just went with it and it was good. Other than working out some minor kinks like the incorrect dessert order and our plates being taken (and then replaced before we used them), this place is fantastic! I'll definitely come back to dine here again and it is a great spot for date night or a special occasion. I was excited about coming here; recommended by coworkers, for brunch. I had the shrimp and grits the sticky duck wings and a side of eggs. My friend got the French toast. Honestly, the shrimp and grits were okay the plate was lukewarm when I got it so I was a bit disappointed with that. The grits were a bit watery as shown in the picture. Presentation was beautiful but the taste wasn't all the way there: The duck wings were really good and hot, I would definitely come back for that alone!! My friend said the French toast was okay. I ended up having the Crab Linguine and smoked aged Gouda Mac and cheese (I know I have the palette of a 5 year old lol) but it was all so delicious. I was recently introduced to Urban Cafe' and the review was impressive. I knew I needed to make my way there sooner than later. Upon my arrival I was smitten by the upscale appearance of the restaurant. It looked quite nice from the outside and as I stepped in I loved its decor. One could tell that the designer has an eye for uniqueness and style. Everything fit like a well put together puzzle. Parking was a bit challenging at first as it sits on the corner of a very busy area and the parking lot which is quite small was full. As I backed up to park on the street a spot opened up directly in front of the restaurant (Thank YOU, LORD!). I was warmly greeted by the host and as I made my way to the area with my party, I caught the eye of one of the chefs and he greeted me with a welcoming smile. Alrighty then, he had me at hello! The private room was also beautifully decorated and quaint and expressed just the right intimacy for a wonderful brunch. I was there for a small birthday celebration and the staff treated us like royalty. They even stored the birthday cake in their refrigerator while we dined and celebrated (how's that for hospitality and hometown flair)?! Our server was professional, knowledgeable of the menu, accommodating and offered suggestions. The food as well as the ambiance was on point! The menu had quite a variety of dishes and many were out of the box including sticky duck wings, oxtail bahn mi, brown butter pancakes, lox, seafood benedict, crab omelette etc. The shrimp and grits were also phenomenal with THE best collards ever...In other words, seasoned to perfection and oh so succulent! The ground beef for the burgers was second to none. The real deal and not some imitation or filler beef. It was wonderful to immediately taste the difference and the portion sizes were more than enough. The place usually has a line out the door on Sunday's and does have really good food. The hostess and servers and bus boys are awesome but good food shouldn't keep you coming here. The owner is an 40yr old toddler that should take some HR courses as well as some etiquette lessons. He treats his staff horrible and alot of his staff are 17-24yrs old yet he refers to them as pimps and their hoes and how can he be like them. He allows his personal relationship with the co-manger to overflow into the workplace, good, bad and the ugly. You don't get to the top by stepping on others especially when your twice their age...shame on you. I will be honest and say I entertained thoughts of having a "discussion" with him in person but I need to practice what I preach. I have chosen instead to hit him where it hurts...the pockets. I've eaten here twice in the last month. The creme brulee French toast and brown butter pancakes are my favorites ( carbs be damned when I eat here ). The bacon and eggs are cooked to perfection. The sticky duck wings have a great sweet and savory teriyaki taste. I just wish they came in a spicy variation. The food presentation is nothing short of exquisite.
