We had a nice meal on a recent Saturday. We both ordered off the special board. I had a hard time choosing between fish & chips and the Muenster Burger. The server suggested the burger when I asked, so I went with that. Mom had the smaller portion of a red pepper linguini with shrimp. There was a large party seated about the same time as us, but it didn't seem to cause a delay in the kitchen as our food came out in a good amount of time. As soon as the burger was in front of me, it smelled so great! I knew it was not going to be one of those pre-fabricated patties from a bag of frozen patties. The waffle cut fries were fantastic, I focused my attention on them first because they were so perfect that I didn't want them to get cold. That famous chicken place can keep their waffle fries because these were AWESOME. Mom's portion of pasta was pretty small. Of course we admit she didn't ask any questions about size, but it only had 3 shrimp. They were beautiful shrimp but the portion for the price seemed more like a side than an entree especially since it didn't come with maybe a piece of toast or something just pasta in a bowl with the shrimp on top. It was very tasty, and like I said we didn't ask any questions about the portion size so it's not a complaint, but an observation. With my burger, it was delicious for sure. I was a little disappointed that the barbeque sauce that came on it was not noticeable at all. It needed more or maybe their sauce was just really mild. The fried onions were either the store bought kind or maybe prefried and put on later, which was disappointing on such an otherwise-beautiful burger. While our service was sufficient, there definitely were times I would have maybe asked for something but she seemed to be more of the type that observed from afar instead of stopping to ask if we needed anything. It took a bit of time at the end of our meal to get her stopped for the check and takeout box, but still we could have flagged her down I suppose if needed. I have a bad habit of not always making enough observation of what my server looks like to feel confident I'm waving at the right person, but you know... it was still fine service, not a complaint. I've never gotten anything that I didn't absolutely love. Chef keeps the menu fresh constantly, and the classics always taste like the classics. This was my first time here and I'm honestly impressed. We stopped in for dinner on date night and the vibe was cool. It wasn't too busy so it didn't take long to get seated. Our server was very friendly and answered our questions about the menu. I got the chicken club which was good and I got a side of Mac n cheese which was not the best. My husband got a burger and fries which he said was pretty good. I wanted a strawberry Long Island but they didn't have strawberry so I got a raspberry instead. Still was good. The menu included soups and salads, appetizers, sandwiches, flatbreads, pasta, entrées, and dessert. They have a full bar. I ordered the wild mushroom flatbread, my daughter had the sausage and mushroom flatbread. The wild mushroom was honestly one of the most delicious things I have eaten in a long time! Valentines Day 2025 I procrastinated, do not judge, and decided to search for last minute reservations for Valentine's Day for me and my date. Cliff's was one of the reservations I could find from a third party, I believe it was Open Table. We booked a 7:45 reservation as our second stop for a three stop Valentine's evening extravaganza. The first course was casual and matched the Taphouse part of the name. We went with a larger beer to share, a Martin City Hardway IPA, which always hits the spot and paired that with a bar food menu classic- waffle fries topped with cheese sauce and topped with bacon and green onions. Now, was this the most creative appetizer we could have chosen? No, not at all but, it sure was yummy and went perfectly with a tall cold beer. For our second course we split the chicken and mushroom risotto entree. The chicken was roasted well, still juicy and moist and seasoned just right however, the mushroom risotto was a different story. I love a creamy umami risotto but, this one was overly salted. It still was tasty but, since the chicken wasn't underseasoned the entire dish leaned towards too salty. With a few tweaks this could be a solid chicken dish but, I would have rather chosen something else on the menu. Even though it was crowded and lively, of course a given since it was a holiday, the food came out quickly so, we weren't ever hungry. Great casual hangout in Union Hill! One huge pro -- they have a parking lot next to their building! The same cannot be said for other restaurants and bars in the area, so this makes Cliff's Taphouse super convenient. Of course there is also street parking and a lot across the street as well. We are always looking for dog friendly patios that are covered and we found it at cliffs! My friends all recommended that I had to get the steak so I did and I was not disappointed. It was cooked perfectly! We also ordered a burger and pretzel bites and drinks. The pretzel bites have that bubbly crispiness to them which I don't find very often anymore. Cliff's Taphouse is such a great spot for a casual night out with awesome food and drinks! The interior is relaxing, with plenty of TVs to catch the game and a long bar that offers lots of seating. There's also a nice patio and a parking lot, which makes it really convenient. The menu has something for everyone, and their rotating specials are a fun addition. Both Brent and I ordered from the specials: he had the Head 'Ancho Burger, which was way better than we expected--juicy and packed with flavor! The waffle fries on the side were also a hit. I had the Garden Harvest flatbread, which was light and tasty, but I'm already eyeing the lemon shrimp pasta for next time. I also tried the blackberry bourbon smash, and it was amazing! Stopped in for a light lunch, and this place was pretty cool. Nice and open, with fast and friendly service. The Pear and Brie Flatbread was pretty good, but something like arugula added to it would have really helped. The Buffalo Cauliflower Bites were delicious, however, crisp and spicy which is a rare find- most places it comes out soft. The Mac and Cheese and Jalapeno Corn Chowder were disappointing. The Mac and Cheese wasn't saucy, it was sort of just noodles with melted Shredded cheese. The Jalapeno Corn Chowder was also pretty bland, and didn't have much jalapeno or spice to it. Convenient parking lot for the business as well as some street parking, but I'm not great at parallel parking, so I didn't have to worry about that! Corner lot with nice huge windows along the street, you could watch people passing by while eating your meal. There was a santa on bikes event going by while we were eating so that was entertaining. Very spacious and airy room with nice wood floors and tables and wall sconce lighting at the tables. Our waitress was very nice and patient with us as we had never eaten here before. The chicken and waffles was amazing, very delicious. Great hot honey flavor. I tried some of the gravy from the biscuits and gravy and that was very good too. They used to have an awesome brunch menu and even still show it on their website but when we went there they sat us down and gave us a menu with only a couple of items on it. We were both shocked because the menu on their website sounded amazing. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else. What a disappointment. I got a cup of the jalapeño corn chowder which was very yummy, lots of corn so not a ton of broth and it wasn't a creamy chowder fyi but I really enjoyed it. I also got a side Caesar salad which was super light and nice! The lemon shrimp pasta was very good and the small size came with three shrimp. I've eaten here two times now: Aug 13 (trivia night--Wednesday) and Aug 31 (last night--a Sunday). Trivia night is packed and serious business. They have a screen where you can follow what is happening. We weren't playing, so I don't know how great that was. Sunday was not busy and a great time to go if you don't have a reservation. The atmosphere is upscale casual. Both times I ordered the Citrus Shrimp Salad and it was spectacular. If you are Vegan or GF, those items are clearly marked on the menu. They also have a dedicated fryer for the gluten folks. Last night, we also had an appetizer--Satay Spicy Shrimp (2 skewers with 3 shrimp each). My husband went last night and said he won't go back. He was not impressed with his chicken sandwich on bread...he felt it should have been on a bun. I'm sure he could have asked for a bun at an up-charge. The thing that really ticked him off was that he ordered an Old Fashioned and said "just your well whiskey." This is pretty commonly known as saying, "I don't want top shelf." He was charged with for a premium liquor, and it was $14!! We've paid that at other places and expected it, but when you specifically ask for "well whiskey" and get the top shelf, that is just ridiculous. Now, their "Specialty Cocktail" menu says "Woodford Old Fashioned." We think that the server just ordered an Old Fashion from the bartender, but when my husband said "well whiskey," that was when the server should have clarified exactly what he wanted. Cliff's is so family-friendly. I would come here just because of that alone. Upon arrival, we quickly got a table and then a kid "appetizer" was set in front of my children. Goldfish and grapes! That is such a small, kind gesture that goes a long way. I always put my children's food order before ours so they could bring it out first. Shortly after we put in the adult orders, the chicken fingers came out piping hot! I really appreciate the customer service and care. The food is also very good.
