Seasonal cocktails and menus are always fantastic! Something for everyone at the bar, dining room or spacious patio.

Cliff's is like our Cheers... everybody knows our names and we know theirs too. Just a short walk or drive from our Midtown home this is our favorite neighborhood restaurant/bar. Fantastic Happy Hours (and Reverse Happy Hours), Weekly Specials (that don't forget some people aren't meatheads like us, which this week include a Sweet and Sour Tofu Bowl, Blacked red rum fish and a Pepperoni Flatbread...Kudos to Chef Marlin) Trivia Night on Wednesday nights, and an ever changing imaginative and tasty craft cocktail menu (Kudos to Chandler Addi and Tim and the rest of her inspired team) highlight this lively but never hectic family run business. We appreciate you Larry. Choose a cozy booth, a spot on the patio or watch the game on one of the TV's above the bar. Head to Cliff's... they will remember your name : )

Baked Mac and cheese, Asian chop salad, and the blackened trout were not very flavorful and lacked seasoning. The salmon BLT and the burgers were good. The mozzarella stick appetizer was $12 and only came with 4 pieces and the slider appetizer was $15 and only came with 3 pieces. Our server Reese was great, but the food wasn't memorable.

We had a nice meal on a recent Saturday. We both ordered off the special board. I had a hard time choosing between fish & chips and the Muenster Burger. The server suggested the burger when I asked, so I went with that. Mom had the smaller portion of a red pepper linguini with shrimp. There was a large party seated about the same time as us, but it didn't seem to cause a delay in the kitchen as our food came out in a good amount of time. As soon as the burger was in front of me, it smelled so great! I knew it was not going to be one of those pre-fabricated patties from a bag of frozen patties. The waffle cut fries were fantastic, I focused my attention on them first because they were so perfect that I didn't want them to get cold. That famous chicken place can keep their waffle fries because these were AWESOME. Mom's portion of pasta was pretty small. Of course we admit she didn't ask any questions about size, but it only had 3 shrimp. They were beautiful shrimp but the portion for the price seemed more like a side than an entree especially since it didn't come with maybe a piece of toast or something just pasta in a bowl with the shrimp on top. It was very tasty, and like I said we didn't ask any questions about the portion size so it's not a complaint, but an observation. With my burger, it was delicious for sure. I was a little disappointed that the barbeque sauce that came on it was not noticeable at all. It needed more or maybe their sauce was just really mild. The fried onions were either the store bought kind or maybe prefried and put on later, which was disappointing on such an otherwise-beautiful burger. While our service was sufficient, there definitely were times I would have maybe asked for something but she seemed to be more of the type that observed from afar instead of stopping to ask if we needed anything. It took a bit of time at the end of our meal to get her stopped for the check and takeout box, but still we could have flagged her down I suppose if needed. I have a bad habit of not always making enough observation of what my server looks like to feel confident I'm waving at the right person, but you know... it was still fine service, not a complaint. I don't get to this part of town for a meal very often and I'd have to hit them just right since the parking is not plentiful but I would definitely love to go back again sometime.

I'd been hearing awesome things about Cliff's for a while, so I finally decided to stop in and see what the hype was about -- and it definitely lived up to it. I went for brunch on a Saturday, and everything was great. Our waitress was super friendly, the food came out fast, and it was absolutely delicious. Cliff's is definitely getting added to my list of favorite brunch spots in KC.

This was my first time here and I'm honestly impressed. We stopped in for dinner on date night and the vibe was cool. It wasn't too busy so it didn't take long to get seated. Our server was very friendly and answered our questions about the menu. I got the chicken club which was good and I got a side of Mac n cheese which was not the best. My husband got a burger and fries which he said was pretty good. I wanted a strawberry Long Island but they didn't have strawberry so I got a raspberry instead. Still was good. The only reason I gave it four stars was because of the Mac n cheese. The sever hyped it up and it didn't live up to the hype at all.

What a great place! My friends and I went for dinner last night and had a great time. We had delicious lavender gin drinks that I can't remember the name of. We got the Asian chop salad, the beet pasta, and a burger. They were all delicious. The restaurant seemed clean and the service was fabulous.

We went in for a Restaurant Week lunch and were not disappointed! The poached pear salad was a fantastic and light starter. I had some of the creamiest macaroni and cheese I have ever had, topped with lobster that was so decadent and rich. It became two meals, and was even fantastic reheated. Our waitress was adorable.

Cliffs is a great local spot! We were able to bring our dogs with us to sit on the patio. Server was amazing and so sweet. Burgers + fries were great and their mozzarella sticks were sooo good (not pictured bc we were too hungry).

First time to try Cliff's after hearing great reviews! Inside is clean and comfortable-This is a family owned business and everyone was so friendly. The menu included soups and salads, appetizers, sandwiches, flatbreads, pasta, entrées, and dessert. They have a full bar. I ordered the wild mushroom flatbread, my daughter had the sausage and mushroom flatbread. The wild mushroom was honestly one of the most delicious things I have eaten in a long time! If you love garlic, pesto and mushrooms, this is absolutely to die for! I would definitely recommend and come again! It would be hard for me to order something else since this was so good but I'm willing to bet everything here is delicious. Our server was delightful. It was a great experience!

I recently went to Cliff's Taphouse for happy hour with a friend and we sat outside on the patio. The patio was super cute with a nice amount of seating. We had a friendly and attentive server. I ordered the whiskey lemonade and sausage and mushroom flatbread and my friend ordered the hummus and white sangria. Everything tasted great and was reasonably priced. I also saw they have a reverse happy hour.

Valentines Day 2025 I procrastinated, do not judge, and decided to search for last minute reservations for Valentine's Day for me and my date. Cliff's was one of the reservations I could find from a third party, I believe it was Open Table. We booked a 7:45 reservation as our second stop for a three stop Valentine's evening extravaganza. The first course was casual and matched the Taphouse part of the name. We went with a larger beer to share, a Martin City Hardway IPA, which always hits the spot and paired that with a bar food menu classic- waffle fries topped with cheese sauce and topped with bacon and green onions. Now, was this the most creative appetizer we could have chosen? No, not at all but, it sure was yummy and went perfectly with a tall cold beer. For our second course we split the chicken and mushroom risotto entree. The chicken was roasted well, still juicy and moist and seasoned just right however, the mushroom risotto was a different story. I love a creamy umami risotto but, this one was overly salted. It still was tasty but, since the chicken wasn't underseasoned the entire dish leaned towards too salty. With a few tweaks this could be a solid chicken dish but, I would have rather chosen something else on the menu. Even though it was crowded and lively, of course a given since it was a holiday, the food came out quickly so, we weren't ever hungry. The service wasn't frantic or rushed and I appreciated that since the restaurant was definitely a-buzz.

That changed yesterday, when Diana Condori, the bar manager, was named a 2026 James Beard Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service semifinalist. As we love supporting restaurants and bars that receive that kind of recognition, my wife and I headed to Fern Bar that evening. I was especially curious what exactly a "sugarcane and agave bar" meant. We arrived around 5:30pm and found only a handful of guests inside. After congratulating the bartender who first served us, he mentioned that Diana was working that night and would stop by to meet us. During our conversation, Diana shared that she didn't even know she had been nominated. She woke up Tuesday to a call from owner Bryan Arri, who said he had big news and was coming over. Her first thought was that something terrible had happened--like the bar had burned down. Instead, he showed up with coffee and told her she was a James Beard honoree. Diana is originally from Bolivia and has lived in Kansas City most of her life, with the exception of time spent in San Francisco during the pandemic. She further refined her cocktail craft through local pop-ups in Kansas City under the name Condor's Cove. When Bryan was preparing to open Fern Bar, he reached out to bring her onto the team. The printed cocktail menu immediately reminded me of the Monarch and the Mercury Room--not surprising given Bryan's background at Manifesto and the Monarch. Thoughtful, intentional, and clearly designed for people who appreciate serious cocktails. We planned on having one or two drinks but ended up staying for three, thanks to an outstanding lineup and a memorable conversation with Diana. We tasted: * No Fly Zone - Rum, agave, pineapple foam * Mr. Collage - Smooth, elegant, egg-white cocktail * Three Negroni Lunch - Bitter, boozy, and beautifully balanced * Pendergast No. 4 - Complex and spirit-driven * It's Bananas - Banana liqueur with bright tropical notes * Off the Rails - Creative and well-executed rum/agave cocktail One downside of many cocktail-forward bars is the lack of food, but Fern Bar offers two varieties of mini burritos for $4--just enough protein to keep things balanced while indulging. Great concept, exceptional service, and truly memorable drinks. Check it out--and be sure to say hello to Diana.

Second I tried the Neo Cosmo (white rum, strawberry, cacao, coconut, rose hip, lime, bubble) which was good and was a fun drink with an ice cream shaped cup and a bubble on the top (meant to look like an ice cream cone).
