Walking in, it really does feel like you're entering a secret little space away from the stress of the city. We booked our appointment last minute, on a day (Tuesday) that the spa was not open, but we still got a confirmation text and were able to sort out some scheduling and parking questions async via text. That was super convenient! While the space blew us away, the actual services were disappointing. We tried the 30 min foot fete foot massage and the 30 min bed head scalp massage. Before the session began, we were invited to change into comfortable, plush robes, which helped us to relax. The slippers provided were strangely tiny, and I think I have pretty average size feet. My husband couldn't find any that fit. Onto the foot massage. We were both surprised that the foot massage was performed on a regular massage table, but that's okay. My massage therapist didn't explain what he was doing as he was doing it, and I was surprised that the massage started with foot buffing. Next thing I knew, my foot was being dunked into REALLY hot wax (I think). It was really uncomfortable, especially since I didn't expect it. After that, we got into the massage itself, which was just okay. The bed head scalp massage was also just okay. The total cost for 60 minutes was $130 before tax and tip, and it just didn't seem worth it. I suspect your experience could be much better or worse depending on the masseuse and their experience level. The good news is that the space is beautiful and the scheduling is easy and efficient -- and online, which is great. Some tips if you decide to go: - We were told we could park on Smith or Wentworth St, and that we'd be okay in the spots marked for 1 or 2 hour residential permits. We had no trouble finding a spot on a Wednesday afternoon. - It's very close (like less than 5 min walk) to a coffee shop called Second State Coffee. If you want a coffee or treat before/after your service, this is a great spot! read more

I am surprised that there are no reviews for this unique spa on the tree-lined street of Wentworth in Charleston at the site of the Wentworth Mansion, an 1860s property that provides a boutique, luxury hotel experience. The spa is gorgeous. It is the old carriage house and barn that belonged to the old mansion, and has been smartly renovated to accommodate the spa. You traverse a narrow hall that feels like you are entering a magical land, that once belonged to horses. And the vaulted ceilings and lofts (that use to store hay) and exposed brick with equestrian accoutrements really add to that feeling. The lovely painting, done by a local artist, of a woman peering out to sea with a telescope behind her is tremendous. Booking is fairly easy, though you have to do it by telephone. The spa staff is very kind and helpful. They do not have a ton of services (like some do today, but it can be excessive and frivolous), it appears, but what they do, they do well. There is a "rub and wrap," which helps to hydrate dry skin, with specialty oils and mylar used to "wrap" your whole body to lock in moisture, followed by a gentle circulation-inducing "rub." There are other massages, too. There is an expert esthetician on board, "Patty" who will give you a top-of-the-line facial, who can also regale you with funny and inspiring history of the mansion and this converted stable. I would not bother looking around for another spa if you are in the vicinity of Charleston! 4 stars and not 5, only because of the apparent inability to do an online booking (I'm a stickler for that!) Prices are what you might expect for the area. As of now, the aforementioned services ran from between roughly $110-$200, before gratuity. read more

What an amazing afternoon I had here today! The spa is in the old carriage house of the Wentworth Mansion. A really beautiful place with so much character. The treatment I had was called "Rubbed and Wrapped". I was exfoliated and oiled up from neck to toe, then wrapped up for it to soak in. After that, I enjoyed a massage for over an hour. I left here feeling so relaxed. My appointment was with Britney and she was very sweet and a great masseuse. I was happy that we discussed my problem areas and areas to avoid, as opposed to filling out a form. It was much more personal and easier to discuss the details. I was worried that parking would be a concern in downtown Charleston; however, the spa shares a parking lot with the Mansion and Circa 1886, so I had plenty of parking to choose from at 2:00 this afternoon. I would avoid coming later, as the restaurant could possibly fill up this parking. I cannot wait to come here for another treatment soon. This is a review for the spa at Wentworth Mansion. I'm surprised that this hidden gem doesn't have a lot of reviews because WOW what an amazing experience! My husband and I did the 90 min couples massage for our honeymoon, and we left extremely satisfied. I even fell asleep which has always been a true sign of pure relaxation. I do think your experience will depend on who your masseuse is but overall it's a beautiful location (set in an old carriage house), relaxing vibes inside with lovely details (the entry way felt like we were walking into a dream)! Really interesting setting in an old carriage house- lots of charm. Allen gave me one of the best massages of my life. Rubbed and wrapped is a great treatment. Very relaxing and my skin felt amazing. I got this massage as an anniversary gift and apparently it was really great for the recipient. They really make you feel like you're being pampered in the height of luxury! HOWEVER...I do have a complaint that, again, this was a gift and I gave my card information only to be embarrassed that the recipient was made to pay at the end of the massage and that the spa could not even gain access to the card I left on file unless the appointment was no-showed. Seems like a terrible business practice and really ruined the experience for me personally, however the person who actually had the massage really enjoyed it so I'm still recommending Urban Nirvana but also recommending they fix this policy that has really left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I booked my boyfriend and I an early Valentine's Day gift...a couples massage with hot stones! Neither of us had ever had massages before and we are both apprehensive of the thought of others touching us. However, I wanted to give it a shot. I booked an appointment at the Wentworth location downtown. The area is beautiful as well as the spa. It's so calm and relaxing. The whole experience from booking the appointment with Kelly, to the hot stones massages (sorry I cannot recall the masseuses names), right to checking out was an excellent experience. The ladies performing our massages made us feel very comfortable and there was never an awkward moment. 100% relaxed. I would highly recommending going to Urban Nirvana downtown Charleston.
