I live close to Urban Pie and went a long time without stopping in. I usually stick with what I know when it comes to pizza, but on Halloween night, my 5 year old nephew was hungry and needed pizza! We grabbed him a slice to go and it looked so delicious that I knew I had to go back and try some for myself. A week later, my partner and I stopped in and gave them a try. The pizza was delicious! We had The Urban Signature, which is made with olive oil, roasted garlic, spinach, roasted red peppers, red onions, feta and mozzarella cheese. I normally wouldn't agree to a pizza without red sauce but I missed that detail when reading the menu (too many beers) and it was still delicious. They definitely load it up with the toppings, too. We ordered the 16" which was about 8 slices and very large. We ended up taking some home. We would have been fine with the 12" but the price difference is so nominal that we went all in with intentions of leftovers. Nothing like cold pizza for breakfast! The crust on our pizza was thin crust but it wasn't cracker thin like some places. There was enough of a crust to dip in marinara (which I recommend). I also want to mention that they have a gluten free crust option and vegan cheese (Daiya). They also have a vegan pizza that comes with soy chorizo. I am vegetarian but intend to recommit to veganism in January so I will certainly be back for this! Urban Pie has a full bar with several signature cocktails as well as a good beer list. I stick with something light when I'm eating pizza so I just had Stella. Our server was friendly and our wait time for the pizza was average, maybe about 15 minutes. Other reviews complain about long wait times but we didn't experience this. We were there early on a Saturday and they weren't very busy but the restaurant did start to fill up around 7pm. Seating is fairly limited indoors but they have a shiny new patio that will be ideal in the warmer months. I am not sure if they have heaters out there at this point. No complaints about this place and I am happy to have another pizza joint to add to my rotation. read more

My husband and I recently moved into the neighborhood. Last night we tried Urban Pie and it was fabulous! We got garlic cheese bread and a 12" thin crust with pepperoni, green peppers and mushrooms. I love Kirkwood, I love pizza, I love arugula, I love Urban Pie. And heck yes, they deliver to me! Nestled on the corner just beyond Kirkwood Aces lies Urban Pie, a charming little pizza shop. They've only got a few tables inside but boast an impressive patio for the warmer months: the set up actually reminded me of many Fellini's locations... but better (and yes, I am a Fellini's fan, no lie). Their pizza is a crispy thin crust which is probably my most favorite. I also love the upper-crust toppings like smoked gouda, artichoke, and fresh spinach. We went with the Urban Signature pizza which I would heartily recommend: it is super flavorful without being overwhelming or greasy. Certainly an "adult" pie with fancy toppings like roasted garlic and feta, but it still tastes like a pizza. I'm so over the BBQ chicken pizzas and other crap that don't taste like what I'm craving (although they have those too, if that's your thing). We also ordered the arugula salad which goshdarnit may have been the best arugula salad I've ever had. There wasn't much to it: just greens, parmesan cheese, and lemon dressing but oh man was it delicious. The dressing balanced out the bite of the arugula resulting in total salad nirvana. I can't imagine coming here without ordering it. The two of us (who were mighty hungry) ordered a large salad and a large pie and had a bit leftover. Given that it's currently BYOB (take advantage of the BP across the street!) this is a very cheap night out and a place I'm looking forward to hitting up again. Soon. read more

I love pizza and am always looking for new opportunity to try out new pizza places. So I purchased a Groupon deal for Urban Pie when I saw that it was available. I called ahead and found they were indeed open on Memorial Day. Awesome! Unfortunately, it started to downpour on the way there so it was difficult to find where it was. But we made it! There is a small amount of parking designated to the restaurant on the side of the building. It was dead when we first arrived (though they were handling alot of deliveries, as you could imagine), but a number of folks trickled in over the hour we were there. The Groupon deal was for a 16" signature pie. We ordered the Grease Monkey without the ham or bacon. You cannot substitute toppings. No problem to remove. But you have to pay for additional toppings, even if you remove some. What?! So pepperoni and beef it was. We also ordered garlic cheese sticks. Figured this would actually be fried cheese sticks. But it was cheese bread. So what is the difference between cheese sticks and cheese bread? I have no clue. Came with a TON of marinara. It was pretty good for cheese bread. The pizza was delivered rather quickly given the backlog of orders for delivery (they were saying an expected 2 hour delivery time over the phone). I was not a big fan of the pizza. The ground beef pieces were so small! Like bits. And there was hardly any sauce. They can do WAY better. I thought about ordering a red velvet cupcake, but once I saw one of the staff eating one, I thought it was rather small and something I could make just as well or better at home. Thanks for saving me $2. Service was meh. You could tell that they guy serving us was new. One the staff even had to ask him his name. He had troubles processing some of the orders and needed help. He didn't check often enough on drink refills. And he had to ask us if we ordered cheese sticks once they got served up. Really- you don't remember our order? And who else would been receiving food yet since we were the first ones here. Anywho. Everyone starts somewhere. They were experiencing issues with delivery that evening. When we were leaving, a couple came in to return a pizza cause they received the wrong one upon delivery. That was after 2 hours of waiting. And they were told a replacement would take another 2 hours. I didn't stay long enough to hear the resolution of this issue. However, my friend (who works for another pizza place) indicated this is something that typically happens on crazy nights with bad weather. Verdict: I won't be back. I hate giving a 1 star to anyone. UP is in my n'hood and I've tries so hard to give them my business. I have taken so many of my friends there, so now people from all over the perimeter know how bad the service is! I have been countless times before they got their liquor permit. The thought of bringing my own was a good thing for a while. I LOVE their pizza! I dig thin crust pizza. The service though.... The WORST service in America! I have complained every visit for inexcusable delays and never got free anything. When I drive by, I am amazed that they are still open. There is no excuse for such bad service. This place needs better management. Just waited ~1 hour for a calzone and two slices dine in. People next to us ordered and had their food in 15 minutes. The managers/owners and their friend (presumably) were 10 feet away from us drinking cocktails and eating their dinner at the bar. They were bossing around the workers who were clearly overwhelmed and just trying to do their jobs. Were totally oblivious that we were sitting there for what seemed like forever, or maybe they just don't care. I don't expect this place to be around too long. We ordered a custom made large pizza, and a margarita pizza. We also included a half order of wings. Because we only live 3 miles away, we figured it wouldn't be bad to pick it up and bring it back home. We have two children, and one is 16 months old...so we really try not to burden other diners with our energetic children when we want to order out. I ordered the food online, and my husband left the house as soon as I clicked the submit button. He said it took him about 15 minutes to drive the 3 miles or so (Atlanta weekend Traffic). He waited 40 additional minutes after arriving for our food. Drove 15 minutes back to the house. I'm guessing that the food must have been prepared a while before he actually was given our order, because by the time he arrived back home with the food it was cold. Not warm, COLD! Even in it's coldness, the pizza was pretty good. The tomato based sauce was pretty average, but I could tell that the toppings were fresh. I just wish it would have been completed and presented on time, so we could have had a better experience. The price was more expensive than Fellini's , but Fellini's would have had prompt service and hot food. We won't return to this place. read more

Urban Pie is a pizza joint located in the popular area of the Kirkwood village right across the street from Arden's Garden. I was extremely optimistic because I really like the restaurants in the area and I live in the area myself, so I was open mindedly venturing outside of my pizza comfort zone... (I'm a hardcore DaVinci's fan.) Unfortunately I was not impressed by the atmosphere inside, the service or the food. Before I get into the negatives, here's a couple positives; Pros: -Delivers within a four mile radius. -Spacious outside dining. My group and myself ordered the Kirkwood Luau Pie (Hawaiian) and the Grease Monkey (Meat Lovers). The flavor of the pizza was mediocre in my opinion. The ham on both pizza's was cubed and flavorless. Later that evening all of our stomachs hurt. Not cool :( Service was weird...to say the least. We had a waiter who was training. He was nice and polite. He would just forget little things, which was totally fine. But, then a trained waitress came by every table and had to point out that he was a trainee and went ahead and apologized for anything he might mess up...It was unnecessary and I felt bad for him because she was mean about it. But, then the same waitress would forget drinks and talk on the phone while serving us. She was less professional than the trainee. And the inside of Urban Pie, or lack there of, has sparse and cramped seating. Anyways, I'm sticking to my regular pizza joint. read more

I live right down the street from UP, and I NEVER go there! That's a shame, because I want to support local businesses, but this place is just not good. Their pizza is a little above average, but it is very expensive and not worth the price. I love lots of things about it - the workers are friendly, the inside and outside seating are both kinda cool and very clean. (What is up, though, with the crack hoe on the mo-ped delivering a pizza?) I'm talking about the painting on the outside wall. break out the champagne ma! whats the occasion you ask? My first ever 5 star review. I love Urban Pie; so much that I can't wait to go back. For starters the pizza is on point. It's probably the thinnest thin crust pizza I've had in ATL, and these folks do it very well. The trick to thin crust pizza is not to overload it with too many toppings. This of course requires that the basic crust, sauce and cheese be of high quality. I got a large spinach pizza and wolfed down half of it in one sitting. *oink* I also loved my arugula salad. The arugula leaves were fresh bunches of yummy green goodness. Now to be thorough, there was a mix up with my order - I called it in and wound up having to wait an additional 5 mins on arrival. Lemme tell ya, the way they fussed over the mistake you would have thought they accidentally pushed my gramma over a cliff. They were so apologetic and made up for it by giving me a free dessert and salad! More importantly they were very appreciative of my patronage; good customer service is so underrated. I walked into the pizza joint, in a kind of melancholy mood given that I am recently single and no longer have a boyfriend who I can go out to eat with at potential yelp reviewable eating establishments. Stopped here for a snack after a busy morning visiting all the Green Markets as well as the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain Park. David ordered the Arugula Salad and a slice of Sausage, Mushroom and Basil Pizza. I'm a simple guy and got a slice of Cheese and a slice of Pepperoni. I tried some of Davids salad and it was really good! David is a huge fan of thin crust pizza and really liked it. I like a bit more dough (heck, my favorite pizza is Deep Dish Chicago) but thought it was good...could have used a bit more sauce though. The owner and all the ladies there were very nice and friendly and made us feel at home. Oh and they now deliver and can deliver to my neighborhood in Castleberry Hill! This place has some of the best pizza I've ever had. So, let's knock the 'not so great' out before I talk about the good. Every time I order a pizza from here, delivery or pick up, it's near cold when I get to eat it. Sure, I get that the commute time takes away from its zinging heat, but I do wonder if it sits out for a while before it makes its way to me. Further, I think the price point is a little higher than I'd like to see here. But I continue to suck it up since their pizza is that great. Back to the awesome pizza. Their crust is so nice and thin and baked to perfection. There is nothing I hate more, as a non-crust eater, than big poofy chewy pizza crust. No ma'am. Further, this place has roasted garlic and kalamata olives as topping choices. If you haven't tried such a combination, you must. Add in some sliced Italian sausages and/or pepperoni if you are an omnivore like me. Once in a while I'll throw a salad in to up the health factor - the Greek salad is a great option and the spinach one is fab too. Sometimes the spinach seems inconsistent though - sometimes wilty/ragged or sometimes pert and perky. Hence, the Greek option that I have been getting these days. Service is always kind and cheerful. Im actually surprised by the positive reviews. The pizza is so greasy that the thin crust was soggy. I love pizza but I couldn't eat this without using a napkin to soak up the grease. On top of that there wasn't any flavor. I've had box pizza that was better. The jerk wings were fried so hard that they were inedible. I have had to cancel my last 4 orders here because they can not deliver anything within three days! Each time I ordered using EAT24. They have a countdown clock on your order. The first three times, I just let it tick away and after it passed (when my food was supposed to be delivered),I finally called. EACH time they said that they were really busy and would get right on it and it would take another hour. This was after waiting for an hour already. Tonight I gave them one more chance. I ordered a pizza, and the website said the pizza would be "guaranteed delivered" in 65 minutes. At the 30 minute mark I called and they said it would be "about 30 more minutes." That was cool with me. When it got to 60 minutes, I called back and they said, "we are really busy, it will be another 30 minutes." I cancelled again (because the last time they told me that it took another 2 hrs and they still had not cooked the pizza!) They have good food, but you will not get it delivered before you are dead. We order delivery from Urban Pie when visiting in the area. We ordered goat cheese bread sticks and a 12' pizza. The sauce that came with the bread sticks was horrible. It was nothing more than watery marinara sauce with some goat cheese in it. They gave us less than a third of a cup for all the bread sticks. The pizza was subpar at best. We got a margarita pizza and it was very greasy with hard crust. The price for our two items was way overpriced for what you received and the quality. This is a very solid little pizza joint. The wife and I stopped here randomly last weekend while perusing properties in the area and had a great margherita pizza. It's very small inside--kinda divy--so we elected to sit on the patio, which proved good for people watching. The thin crust was perfectly baked on the bottom, crispy, and had good flavor. You can tell they use a higher-quality mozzarella than you'll find at a lot of neighborhood places. The sauce was bright and a little tangy--maybe not quite a flavorful as I would have liked. As with the best margaritas, Urban Pie follows the less is more approach, letting the quality of the ingredients and preparation shine through without creating a gut bomb. We split a 16" and it was a good amount for two people with no left overs. All in all it was a very good looking pie and exceeded expectations. Our server, Elise?, was very affable and we never wanted for refills and the like. We didn't booze, but they had a pretty good list of bottled craft brews as well. And apparently they've started offering a lot of draft options recently. Parking can be kinda scarce. Since it was a Sunday and we were sitting outside we went ahead and parked across the street at the Library, even though signage discourages this. There are better all-around pizza place in Atlanta. Antico and Ammazza come to mind; but Urban Pie isn't aiming to out-artisinal the big dogs, and I applaud the quality product and friendly service they provide to the community. Urban Pie is delicious, fast and super friendly. The best thing on the menu is the calzone. We really like it with ground beef, onions and green peppers like a cheese steak. They also have a special right now: $10 large one-topping pizza. When we order, there are usually two adults and two kids here, so we adults split one calzone and have some pizza and the kids eat 1-2 slices of pizza each. That makes our grand total $20+ tip for a family of four (usually with leftovers). We live in EAV and they deliver...they even deliver to the southern part of EAV. Update: the last many times we've ordered, the pizza crust has been burnt on the bottom like half the time. So, I just don't order pizza from them that much anymore. Update 2 (March 2014): It's gone from a 50/50 shot on getting a burnt pizza to 90% of the time it's burnt and 10% of the time it's almost burnt. The hubs and I ordered just last night, and I absolutely couldn't eat it. I may contact management, but I do think it's basic food sense to say "Is this burnt?" and if the answer is yes, don't send it out for delivery. If it were a one time thing, I'd let it go, but it's been every single time, so I think I'm just done with this place. I'm a fan of any place that allows you to choose the ingredients that goes onto your pizza. Especially if that include pesto sauce as your base sauce. And especially if one of those ingredients includes vegan cheese. I'm also a fan of any place that allows you to buy by the slice. Urban Pie happens to be one of those places--so I'm a fan. The inside is pretty small (consisting of about 6 tables/booths) but because there is friendly service and other cool patrons, you don't mind being so close to your neighbors. The patio out front is probably pretty sweet in the summertime. Prices are about right for non-chain pizza, and beer is also served. Can't complain and will definitely return. read more

The Urban Pie's best feature is its location. I highly recommend the arugula salad - it's an amazing combination of flavors, especially the lemon basil dressing AND the spinach salad is great... the pizza offerings are pretty good, but not amazing. If you're feeling adventurous or want to try something REALLY different, their gluten-free "crustless pizza" is kind of an adventure. I ordered this a few times trying to figure out if i liked it but have stopped trying. It's made of spinach in a single-serving aluminum pie dish (think: lasagna-to-go) with some cheese (i think they can do vegan cheese) and whatever toppings you could get on a pizza, and almost floating in sauce. This is really not a good substitute for pizza. To be clear: a ton of spinach is nice but doused in sauce just wasn't all that good- and it doesn't seem worth $10.75 for one person. Also, we ordered from here for delivery sometimes until the driver texted my husband to ask me out... I guess he didn't realize whose number it was because I opened the door when the food arrived. If you live in the neighborhood and just want a casual meal out, this could be a really nice pizza joint/bar to go to... on the other hand, for a mind-blowing pizza experience, I'd definitely go elsewhere. read more

Since they have yet to get their pour permit, I got a cream soda in a can. I passed on the appetizer since the smallest pie they have is 12". I ordered the Urban. Oh. My. Lawd. I'd been looking to try this place for a couple of months and finally got the chance. When I visited, they were super busy, which is usually a good sign, and the staff was super friendly and nice. We had been looking forward to sitting on the covered patio as it seemed like a great way to enjoy the outdoors without the sun beating down on you. Unfortunately this day, there were a lot of kids running around screaming, so we opted for the quieter uncovered side with just a few seats. Sadly, the great music they played could only be heard on the covered side. Now the kids & music issue aside, I was still hoping I'd get a great pizza... well, it was just okay. Our 12' pizza came out a bit charred on top, yet the crust was floppy - kinda odd. The pizza, 2 beers, 2 cocktails, & 20% tip was $70. Not to mention I was charged 4% extra for using a credit card even though nobody asked if I'd prefer paying cash. Overall, I was kinda disappointed. Small building - old gas station, small menu - mostly pizza in two sizes large and individual. Its served super thin so two hungry people can easily polish off a large pie. The toppings are a little expensive to 'create your own' and the specialties are not to my liking unless I'm in a Jacki O mood - arugla pizza. The last downside is that the only way to get delivery is through Zifty - which means a 30$ pizza. My hairdresser suggested I try Urban Pie last night after he finished shaping my locks. It was dark, and I'm not familiar with Kirkwood, but he told me to start looking for the "We Deliver" sign once I hit the BP. Tracy, the girl working behind the bar, immediately made me feel comfortable, making small talk, fixing me a delish glass of sweet tea. I ordered an Urban Signature Pizza (a thin crust brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with mozzarella, roasted garlic, red peppers, spinach, red onions and feta) with pepperoni added. Three thin slices were surprisingly filling! The space is really small, with a little bar at the front and a few tables behind that, contributing to the intimate neighborhood vibe. The owner, Lisa, even sat munching a pizza at the bar while I dined. It was amusing to watch the dialogue between her and another employee, who sampled one of the pizza's banana peppers, even though she's allergic. "Her lips swell up like this when she eats banana peppers," Lisa gestured and explained. "Too bad it doesn't work on my [boobs]," the employee sighed. read more

Great thin crust pie, wouldn't load it up too much it's that thin. Crust was really crunchy and tasty, sauce was a bit sweeter than I am used to but good, shrooms were fresh. Absolute shitshow. Waited well over and hour for our food and the best they could do was bring us some mediocre fries for taking forever. It was ridiculously loud and dark and the service was poor. I normally don't do many reviews but I just got home and knew I had to write one for this place. I'll start off with the good, the waitress was nice. Now for everything else. Our experience at Urban Pie today was horrible. We are vegan, and ordered two vegan pizzas, one with vegan cheese and vegan chorizo and the other with vegan cheese, vegan pepperoni, and tomatoes. One came out correct the other was with real cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and spinach (completely wrong). We took a bite and knew right away. They apologized and made the pizza over again. Now as our son eats we are waiting for the pizza to be made, by the time he finishes his meal our pizza is out (so long wait). This time the pizza is done correctly but it was overbaked. The crust and dough were so hard it was like eating a pretzel or cracker (left flakes all over our clothes) We only ate a few slices and told the waitress we were not happy with our pizza. The MANAGER never came out to check and ask why we were not pleased. For a very expensive pizza, I would've been willing to at the MOST pay for half of the pizza but the waitress told us the manager only took away one of our baskets of fries. So for us getting the wrong pizza, having it made over again, long wait, and it being hard and crusty, we paid a discounted price of $20 (instead of $25). DO NOT EAT HERE FOR ANY REASON Don't go here if you want pizza. Waited 25 minutes for a premade slice of pizza.. They had nothing on the menu about single slices.. Glad I asked.. After waiting 15 minutes the server informs me , they don't really have the pizza I ordered..Got the bill the slice was $10. the whole pizza was $15 I asked for a PBR, they didn't have any... To update my review of this terrible business. After they messed up everyone order at my table we were given a $10 credit voucher.. Upside:Pizza was decent, dug the thin crust action. On the Downside: the wait time was to get my order bordered on ridiculous. I was told it would be 35 minutes, which is already kind of silly for just a single uncomplicated pizza. It worked out to be about an hour though. Wow! I try to keep giving this local neighborhood pizza place a shot, but yet again they have messed up my order. Last time I was here I received an overly cooked pizzas and had to drive back for a remake. Tonight my pizza was made incorrectly and again I find myself waiting for a remake. For the prices they are charging on a simplistic pizza, I expect more from Urban Pie. With plenty of other good pizza options around, I won't be return anytime soon. read more
