Everyone knows when you go to Gio's that's located in between the 10th and 14th St. the parking is not the best but if you look up on the spot you're good to go. After parking and getting into the restaurant, we were greeted immediately. Gio's is a place where you can order first and your food would be bought to you immediately or within 10-15 minutes after you take a seat. I ordered the Chicken Parm $24, its an extremely rich dish with lots of flavor and garlic! 10 out of 10. Bell and evans chicken breast pounded thin, breaded, San Marzano D.O.P. marinara, baked with fresh mozzarella. It comes with a salad and they gave a platter of complementary bread! Soft, warm, chewy goodness. Hubby had the famous Sorrento Lemon Roasted Chicken $24 as well. 1/2 chicken with Fresh Amalfi style lemons, garlic, wild oregano, and olio di oliva. Always the best meal on the menu! The lemon flavor on the chicken is the best. For our drinks, he had a coke and I went with the Sanpellegrino Blood Orange. We served and enjoyed our food along side some amazing company. Someof our close friends joined us as well. They ordered a pizza from Antico which is right next door but attached to Gios, also the gelato shop! They said the pizza was amazing Sicilian style pepperoni pizza. Came for dinner on a weeknight and I would say the parking lot is a little small so definitely be prepared! The service was so friendly and quick! The cashier took the time to explain the dishes and help us choose what we wanted. We ended up gettting lemon chicken and a chicken parm. The lemon chicken was so tender and the sauce was amazing! It was salty and sour at the same time. The chicken parm was also so good! The sauce was tangy and hearty. The chicken parm was also fried to perfection. You order at the cash register and then everything is brought to your table. You will leave full and take home left overs with self service. Just pick up your to go container and bag from the shelves on the side of the room. I tried the Sorrento Lemon Roasted Chicken along with the spaghetti and meat balls. I also tried the spicy arrabiata. The olive oil mix and hot pepper with your bread is a must try. Along with the delicious salad appropriately dressed. I recommend the lemon Chicken and the spaghetti and of course the salad and bread that come with every meal. This place is casual and self service but do not expect to pay do it yourself prices. Meals are still 20+ dollars a pop. If you have some room when your done try the gelato. It's also amazing and conveniently only a walk away from the dining room. An authentic Italian dessert hidden gem right by Anticos Pizza in downtown ATL! The best and only way to finish eating pizza was getting gelato right next door. We went in through the back, and the dessert shop was right there. There were gelato options and cannolis and other dessert options. We got a chocolate chip cannoli to go, and this cannoli was huge! Each cannoli is made to order, but it didn't take long to make it. Then, I wanted gelato. I was stuck between hazelnut and tiramisu flavor, and when I told them employee this, he said I could have half a scoop of each. So, I decided on that! The half scoops were huge and honestly could have been a scoop each. That is how big they were. I got a small, and I couldn't even finish it all. Both flavors were delicious but they were an acquired taste. To me, it took me right back to Italy. The shop was connected to a restaurant. This is a place where you order at the counter and then seat yourself either indoors or outdoors. Whatever you order is brought out to you, but you grab your own utensils, napkins, water, etc. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, which came with a side salad and two pieces of bread. The side salad was simple and delicious, the bread was warm and baked well, and the meatballs were flavorful and saved the spaghetti noodles (which were bland, imo). Been coming here since they opened at least 4 times a year. They decided to do a reservations only style for Valentines Day and have non reservation dirty seating outside with 1 space heater and drop cloth tents. Not the type of energy I thought I would see from Gio's but hey we're living in a time where no one cares if you do outlandish things especially just for the sake of social media "trending" esque coolness. I'll be back some day. By as for now a Valentine's Day, also happening to be my birthday, not a great experience. They have very right limited parking spaces. Most of the time, we do pickup. They have both indoor and outdoor seats with nice ambience and Mediterranean decor. If the place is full, it can get noisy easily; but that's the vibe of the restaurant. Our regular ordered dishes are lemon chicken (Sorrentina Singolo) and meatball spaghetti. The lemon chicken (Sorrentina Singolo) is one of their signature dishes, and it never disappoint. Tender chickens with a well balance lemon flavor. The dish goes with a side of salad which is fresh and tasty. The meatball spaghetti is also delicious. The restaurant and the Antico pizza shared the same space. So happy to have found this spot today! I had a perfect lunch that ended with a delicious raspberry gelato. Gio's is a family-style Italian restaurant with such a great ambiance that I momentarily forgot I was in Atlanta. Today was my first visit, but it definitely won't be my last. For the record, when you enter, you place your order with the front server. Once you pay, you take your seat and your meal will be served to you. It doesn't hurt to listen for your number on the receipt. For today's lunch special, I had the chicken parmigiana paired with their house salad, which was plenty for $12.75! You can't beat this lunch special. The menu offers plenty of other options to choose from. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. It was prepared fresh with quality ingredients. The nicely dressed green salad comes first, but things quickly go downhill from there. We had to ask for black pepper - it comes already ground. They need to buy a pepper grinder. My entree was so oversauced it looked like a soup dish. Nice piece of bread but no butter or olive oil. The potatoes were stale, inedible. My lovely bride liked their side of spaghetti, but she had to ask for red chili flakes. Why hide the condiments? My pollo margherita was soggy. The chicken had very good flavor and the portions are large. The food came with a very delicious salad. The atmosphere is a very casual setting. The only recommendation I would make is to bring your own silverware or for them to provide you with proper silverware. I have all sorts of what ifs and disclaimers First I am vegetarian so there were only two things on the menu I could eat. Pasta or Spicy Pasta. I got the regular pasta. One loves Spicy and even she said it was too spicy for her We did get there midafternoon. So maybe that was part of the issue. The person who took our order wasn't the most helpful. We were welcomed to Gio's by a lively young man seated behind the counter when we arrived. He asked if we needed any help, which we clearly did, and he explained the menu with which he was very familiar and helped my wife and daughter choose their meals. We ordered the caprese salad (appetizer) as my wife's main, a spaghetti and meatballs meal for my daughter, and a chicken parmigiana for myself. You order at the counter then sit with a table marker where your food will be delivered. The pasta dishes came with a house salad which was pretty basic but with a nice vinaigrette. The mains were delivered, it took a bit longer than expected, but not an exceptionally long time, and looked correct. The caprese was wonderful and I was happy to help my wife with it. Great flavor on the mozzarella, and good balance of balsamic and olive oil. The spaghetti and meatballs was also delicious and I enjoyed finishing off a couple bites of meatball from my daughters plate as well. My own chicken parm was good but not amazing. The sauce was great, but chicken was just a bit over cooked. I'm sure it's hard to get the chicken that thin and also still juicy. I wish it was served with a linguini noodle too, instead of spaghetti noodles, but I guess that's just a personal preference... I'm not sure if it's an option, but I'll ask the next time we go. Overall it was good food, good service, good atmosphere. Prices were a bit higher than expected, but in the heart of downtown just a couple blocks from GA Tech, it's probably to be expected. Came here for an early dinner on a Monday night and for some reason this place was dead. Usually dead placers are indicators that the food is not good but it was quite the opposite. The chicken parm was fantastic - massive portions, comes with bread, and a simple salad. I haven't had pasta in a while, and this was a great meal to have! I'd totally recommend splitting the entree, or you can just have leftovers. Parking is behind the restaurant and gives access to the other restaurants in this "little Italy". This entree was so big, it ended up lasting me for three entire meals, so I didn't mind that it was on the pricey side. And BOY was it delicious.
