I came here with colleagues and we enjoyed a very nice lunch! I ordered my usual beet salad with grilled salmon. One colleague ordered the beet salad with skirt steak and the other ordered the roasted barramundi sea bass. I really love the large portion of red and golden beets. The dressing was light and citrusy and the salmon was prefectly grilled, not dry. The pineapple coconut lime replenish was a very refreshing drink, and I enjoyed it very much. The cowgirl cookie was a bit too sweet for my liking, but the chocolate chunk cookie was really good. We sat in the beautiful covered patio that was bright and spacious. They have heat lamps for colder days, which is really great. We ordered and paid at the counter and food was delivered to our table. The service was pretty quick, so it's a great lunch option when you want healthy and delicious food but don't have a whole bunch of time. read more

We came to La Jolla from Orange County for a doctors appointment. Before heading back we stopped at Urban Plates for dinner. The outside patio was pretty busy but welcomely warm and well lit. This was my husband's first time dining in at Urban Plates and he was a little overwhelmed with all the choices but Fellipe was super patient and sweet answering all his questions. He never rushed us even with the line behind us. Tried Urban Plates a few days ago and was extremely disappointed. The line moved very slowly so we used the kiosk to order. Unfortunately the kiosk didn't have an option to order their mango torte, which is why I came there in the first place. Waiting in the actual line wasn't worth it so no mango torte for me! The food came out relatively quickly, but the steak salad was a complete disappointment. The steak was very overcooked and dry and had a funky taste to it. I had a cup of butternut squash soup, which was tasty, but I left hungry so I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

The food was pretty good here. I was a bit surprised that the prices were so high. I know that the food is fresh and made to order, but a lunch with dessert for 2 should not be $88 here. Especially if it is not a "wait to be seated and we will take your order at the table" kind of place. This is literally a "cafeteria" type setup where you walk in, wait in an order line, make your order at the food section and then get a number to take back to your seating area. I love Urban Plates! I've eaten from here twice, once in restaurant and another time through catering at work. The service was great when I went in for my first time. I wasn't sure what I wanted to order and asked a few questions and the cashier was kind and answered them patiently. The wait wasn't too long for our table and the food was delicious. The first time around I ordered the Braised Beef with Mushroom bowl and the flavors were great! Beef was tender and it was satisfying to eat. 10/10 For catering we got Grilled Chicken, Grilled Steak, Roasted Mushrooms w/ Garlic Parmesean, Roasted Brussel Sprouts w/ Balsamic Glaze, Beet Salad, House Salad, Basmati Rice Pilaf, and Grilled Rustic Bread. What happened...I used to enjoy this spot. Went for dinner and was greatly disappointed. I got the 3 sides plate and wow the amount of food served was very disappointing and I don't eat much but at least serve me a proper portion especially if you're asking for a tip to ring me up. My friend got the fried chicken plate and the chicken was so over done she couldn't eat most of it. I've had better meals here, hopefully reviews like this are taken to heart and changes are made. This is one of our favorite places to eat. We are actually "Plates Pass Members." I know. Kind of a big deal--but you can be one too! For 5 bucks a month, you get 20% off each time. If you go twice a month, it makes it worth it!! I'm a teacher so I love a deal! My husband and I always get the same thing. I love Urban Plates because I can get comfort food without feeling gross after! I get the 2 piece chicken tender plate with tomato soup and mashed potatoes. My husband gets the braised beef bowl. We both LOVE our dinners every time. The quality is consistent and fantastic! The service is great! You order at the counter and they bring you your meal. The employees are always helpful and friendly. You can also order from the QR code at the tables if the line is really long. I love the outdoor patio at Urban Plates. It was especially great during COVID, but even know, it stays pretty temperate despite the temperature outside, and it's a fun vibe! This was my first time to an Urban Plates and WOW!!!! I will be back again and again. The menu is extensive, in a good way, and the staff was incredibly friendly. Noemi reccomended the grilled grass fed steak sandwich with truffle fries and it did not disappoint. The meat was tender, flavorful and the perfect size. Noemi was also the one who delivered our food and took the time to explain the dipping sauces and make sure we were happy. We received VIP service in a beautiful atmosphere. When you have the flu and only want soup - I am extremely disappointed when my daughter brought my "bowl" of soup home that was not equivalent to what I thought would be a bowl! For comparison, next to the Urban bowl of soup purchased is my 12 oz coffee cup. And the Urban bowl soup wasn't even filled to the top!! You can order quite easily at the self-service kiosk with utensils and water on the side. I got the Nashville Hot Chicken Tenders. They were nice and a solid choice. Personally, they were a bit too sweet and oily for me. I did not enjoy the macaroni and cheese, it was very watery and flavorless. It is similar to if you were to just add and mix plain water, milk, and the pasta together for 3 minutes. It did arrive at nice temperature though. For me, the fries were rather salty.
