My favorite place to eat when I go to College Station. The food is really good and service is excellent.

Yelp often inserts the label "could've been better" when I choose 2 stars (which is not often). Oddly, I think it actually sums up 2 stars perfectly. I tried Urban Table years ago (pre Covid) and thought it was mediocre and very disappointing considering how much I've loved Chef Tai's other offerings. When Veritas was open we were regulars, and I used to almost stalk the food truck with the frequency I looked up its location. So when friends asked to try it again, I thought sure, why not? Well, I can tell you there won't be a third try. Fool me once and all that. For starters, the appetizers during Happy Hour were good and a good value. That's about where my praise ends. Water glasses are served in tiny glass cups, which hold about 4 ounces and a carafe is placed on the table (for six! One carafe!) with no ice. We are in Texas with a record breaking 100 degree heat wave and they are serving water with no ice in miniscule portions. This is annoying. I ordered the grilled cheese, which came with tomato soup, and then ordered a side of sweet potato fries because I was intrigued by the description. The soup was outstanding, the fries and sandwhich were downright terrible. The Sandwich: Grilled cheese with bacon and avocado. I mean, come on how could this not be good? It wasn't. For starters, the cheese was a white flavorless variety. If I didn't know Chef Tai's reputation better, I would swear that was a mound of not even smoked provolone. Definitely could benefit from some cheddar or havarti or gouda or SOMETHING with a taste. Secondly, the bacon was diced up into pieces, tossed in the cheese, and clearly cooked before hand. So instead of strips of crispy bacon, you got chewy bits of what tasted like store bought bacon bites in your cheese mixture. Lastly the avocado was so minimal I couldn't taste it. If not for the telltale green on the bread, I wouldn't have known it was there. I went home and made a grilled cheese that weekend from Kraft and store bread and it was leaps and bounds more flavorful. The Fries: The description calls them "herb crusted sweet potato fries". That got my attention, so I ordered them especially. They are not "herb crusted". They are regular sweet potato fries (in my case, served damp and limp) with a small smattering of limp herbs across the top, mostly parsley from the taste. Yes, it's pretty. Yes, it's a nice garnish you don't often see especially on fries. Did it add to the flavor? Nope. Can you call something "crusted" when in reality you are sprinkling cold, raw herbs across the top? I don't think you should. Either the presentation has been changed or they took way too many liberties with the term "crusted" for this. The whole meal was disappointing. The lack of water was annoying, and the service was just odd. When the waitstaff brought our food the server asked, as she was setting down the plates, who was going to need a to-go box. There was a surprised silence and then several of my friends asked for one because we had this weird impression that we had to ask now or not at all. Do people request these at the get go now? I'd never seen it before. Overall, the price point is a little higher than I'm used to for a sandwhich dinner and was disappointing in flavor profile on multiple levels. read more

This place is great. Service was top notch, our server Hunter was on point throughout the whole meal. Atmosphere was really cool. We started with with a few suggested craft cocktails and they hit the spot. Tail of Two Creeks was amazing and light. A play on a whiskey sour, but way better. We had the brussel sprout sides as appetizer, and it was almost a salad with great flavors. All entrees were perfect and huge. Steak, mediterranean pasta, chicken picatta and pasta special fettuccini carbonara. It was really good. All of it. Overall great place. New and fresh! Awesome. read more

We have enjoyed Urban Table since they began service. Tonight I was very disappointed with how they have changed my favorite dish, the meatloaf. The serving size is maybe half what it used to be, and instead of the delicious green bean casserole that came with it, they now include sautéed cabbage. Not happy at all. read more

We stop in while moving my son into his apartment. I ordered the Cesar salad with salmon, glass of Chardonnay, my husband had the Chicken fried steak with fried eggs sandwich and my son had the Huevos rancheros. Everything tasted delightful! I only have pictures of my meal because the guys started eating their meal as soon as it was set down. My salad had the green part of the romaine lettuce and not the white ends. The food was mediocre and that is the best part of eating at Urban Table. Natalie Baysinger is an arrogant, useless worker that clearly is there only to draw a pay cheque and nothing else. Tonight is the first time we've come to Urban Table since the start of the COViD panic. Well, I can tell you that Chef Tai and company have gone above and beyond in making sure we are safe and still feel welcome and important. We came with friends and sat in the high top tables near the bar upstairs but still got wonderful service from the waitstaff. We had the Chicken Fried Steak, Simple Seafood, Steak, calamari and pot stickers. OMG! Everything was tasty, hot, and in great portions. There was plenty of social distancing due to some tables being closed off and a very limited number of seats at the bar, so we felt very safe. Coast is Clear! We got the beignets which were hard and stale. The shrimp and grits were soaking with gravy. The sausage was overcooked and the shrimp had no flavor. Every thing was bland except the gravy which was alright so they poured too much of it to make up for the flavor. The pulled pork sandwich needed for flavor too. read more

Just tried this place with my family last night. Menu looked amazing so I wanted to check it out. Ordered the Brussels sprouts with bacon for appetizer and it was very good. However, ordered the Wagyu burger and was extremely disappointed. Patty was burned and thin and the bun was cold. Service was okay, slow but I understand many businesses are understaffed nowadays. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The host wasn't very friendly, the atmosphere just didn't feel very inviting. The vibe was just not there. We went for brunch and the food was just ok. I've come to Urban Table a few times now, and I just have to say that the last time I went I had the pleasure of having Eric as my server. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. He also was very attentive and provided great service. He has been the best server I have encountered at Urban Table. So if you get him as your server, you're in for a treat! I would highly recommend bringing your friends and family to urban table, they have great service and great selection of food. I will be coming again for sure! One of my friends recommended this place so I want to go check it out. The drinks were good and the potstickers were delicious, but let me tell you what needs work is the beef stroganoff pasta. The reason why I picked the pasta was because they said it was fresh. I was excited and when it came out the noodles were all different widths. So some noodles were over cooked and some were undercooked. It's like cooking thin spaghetti and fettuccine together and taking it off the stove when the fettuccine is done or somewhere in between. I think they might have put it in the microwave because the noodles in the middle were steaming hot and the ones toward the outer part of the plater were cold. The beef was good and the sauce was good, but the noodles were blah. Might go back and try something else next time. Hopefully they work on their noodle situation because I'm all about fresh pasta... just not like that. read more

We went today for the first time and we were extremely disappointed. Our waitress and the rest of the staff were extremely nice.. the food was horrible and overpriced. Not only were the portions small but I don't think the kitchen even owns a salt & pepper shaker. This chicken fried steak was $20 and tasted like a TV dinner. The asparagus and french fries were completely unseasoned. Our fried calamari was burnt with a side of what tasted like spaghetti sauce. Visited after a long (years) hiatus. Sadly I won't be coming back. I mean, if you want to wait an hour for your entrees (Monday night, not busy), leave the table to chase down a club soda you ordered 20 min ago, head to the bar to find zero staff to help with missing food and drinks, then this is the place for you! Sadly, the food was actually good. Calamari was crispy with tasty marinara (though portion was small); apple radish salad was delicious. For the entrees, we had the grilled meatloaf, fish of the day (grouper), and seafood enchiladas. Some of the best tasting entrees we have had in town. Food came hot (when it arrived). Clearly, the cooks are doing something right. We didn't stay for desert, however, we were too angry with the absolute absence of customer service by our waitress. Manager ended up closing out our check when we made clear that they had a major problem with their staff. Ambiance in the upstairs dining was fine; though we were apparently unseeable. Chef Tai--are you reading this? You need to get some serious training in place for your servers...will be watching the reviews to see whether the service turns around. read more

However, I ordered takeout recently and when picking up was told that my order was "not a priority because they have dine-in guests", after which they promptly cancelled my order. Wonderful experience for date night, Great atmosphere and the look of the restaurant is modern in all the right ways. The server, Valerie, was attentive and knowledgable on the items of the menu! My friend and I went to dinner and ended up having to take a seat at the upstairs bar. We were confused because we we're told there was a 45 minute wait for a table downstairs, yet more than half the tables were open and the website clearly states they do not take reservations. Drink service was fairly slow, while food service was pretty quick so we got our appetizers way before our drinks arrived. Portions were much smaller than we were told (my friend got the steak and our waitress said it was an 8 oz filet, but it was definitely not more than 4oz) and our credit cards somehow got mixed up at the end of our meal, so we were charged for each other's. The upstairs lounge is a really cool space. I was disappointed that our experience wasn't better because we had such high expectations. Will most likely be back in the future, but would love to see some improvement before then! read more

First time to urban table yesterday: nice location in south college station with a hip ambiance. Our service overall wAs good so no complaints there. Waiter was very friendly and helpful. We sat on the back outdoor patio- it has a little kids play area which is super nice! Our son could just walk around and eat which is his preference. The kids play area has some fake grass which is nice because even our 1 year old could crawl around in it. However the back patio itself is rather small- can only fit 4 tables of 4 back there and it's rather crammed- wish they had made it bigger. Also, there were a lot of flies on the patio so that's something they need to look into finding solutions for: in addition there aren't any fans of any kind on the patio which during the hot summers would be very necessary. They have changed their menu since they opened so some of the menus on yelp are old. I really wanted to try the eggplant parm but they took that off: whomp! We tried the cilantro chicken and paid extra to get it split- it's $2 extra for more sides and the plate split. The chicken was borderline dry/over cooked which was a bummer. Overall the chicken wasn't very flavorful- just more like grilled chicken with a cilantro sauce lightly drizzled so I wouldn't order that again but our waiter said it was his favorite... Our favorite dish we had was the pork ribeye- very flavorful!! Wish we had had that split because we also enjoyed the sides more. Loved that dish!! Also ordered the calamari which was a good starter and pretty decent sized. Overall we had a nice experience at urban table- oh and now they are open for lunch!! So we definitely want to check that out soon! From 11-2! We will be back to try more things! Ohhh and the kids meal was seriously one of the best in town- most generous ive seen- we got the chicken and waffles for our toddler and it was only $5 and it had two giant pieces of fried chicken and a whole waffle- we were very impressed!! It was enough to feed an adult! Anyways, good experience- not perfect but they are new so I'm sure they are working out the kinks- will want to go try it again soon :) read more

Great atmosphere for a date night! The waiter was a bit rusty but very friendly. The wine list and cocktail menu seem to be pretty extensive. Food was unique and delicious, although the steak might but a bit pricy considering it's only ~6 oz. Overall, it's a refreshing experience for us. Look forward to revisiting it. read more
