I arrived a little late, about 15 min, and was expecting to get a word or two from the instructor about what we were doing. Nothing - just yelling a 4/4 count at the class of 8 people for some kind of waltz partner dancing. I didn't expect to do any partner work, so that was a bit off putting. Again, no one informed me that the class would include partner work. Not receiving a welcome or directions but just told to get a partner and then being yelled and counted at - again not knowing what we were doing - was very off putting. The instructor would demonstrate with another employee what looked like advanced waltz movements and expected us to get it immediately. The guys present weren't used to leading in dance so it felt like a jumbled mess. All the while the instructor was rudely yelling for us not to look at our feet or yelling her 4/4 count. She then puts the music on the last 10 min of class and plays two 6/8 songs - a totally different count from the 4/4 count she'd been yelling at us the whole time. I could tell the instructor didn't want to be there. She was rude and impatient. Also, in the same room right next to our group of 8 there is a one-on-one private lesson going on which was very distracting. For $30 a person, the lack of clarity, kindness, teaching decorum, and doing a completely different genre of dance was highly disappointing. I'd be justified in asking for a refund. It was not a good experience at all.

Regardless, we showed up to first day of class to see a class with at least 10-15 toddlers AND all of their parents running around and dancing in the studio. WITHOUT masks. They all left, my daughters soon after went in. Not a single person said hello, or introduced themselves to me or to them. I took a seat to watch my daughters dance in what very few chairs they had (and I was THE ONLY parent sitting as there was only one other child in the class besides my daughters). I was immediately approached by a man and told I had to leave because parents were not allowed to stay but that I could get a "zoom link." Again, not a single introduction as to whom he was, no inquiry about who I was, no other words other than "you need to leave." I told him I would. I grabbed my kids, and left, asked for my money back, and never looked back. The only person that cared to ask why we were leaving was the dance teacher. If you people are under the impression that 1) you're doing someone a favor and preventing Covid by kicking ONE parent (which is a vaccinated Covid nurse by the way) out and keeping MULTIPLE others IN the ACTUAL studio just prior to my kids being in there WITHOUT masks, you're absolute fools and 2) leaving two young females with some RANDOM dude (owner or not) who did NOT even introduce himself to me and treated me with nothing but RUDENESS and DISRESPECT and amongst people I've never met in my life....you are really something with some type of audacity. Don't even get me started on getting my refund for my hundreds of dollars. It only took like 4 weeks to get my money back, but I did. It's clear they don't need more business. Never again. I literally went that same day to a place we love and are appreciated at as customers, dancers, humans, and most importantly as parents. Didn't have a single issue. Not about masks, costs, seating arrangements, phone calls (every call is answered right off the bat), introductions, teachers, NOTHING.

Clear cues, great energy, actually present before and after class, and the music made you want to keep going even when your body was negotiating otherwise. They are generous with amenities too. Showers, a wild number of lockers, all first timer equipment was ready to go for me in a locker ( loveeee) so I can just show up and not think, and I have never in my life seen mat sanitizer machines hanging in a yoga lobby but now I am wondering why every studio does not have them! What really stood out was the community. It felt welcoming, organized, and like people genuinely wanted to be there. A good mix of ages and experience levels which I always appreciate. I personally lean toward darker, moodier studios with mirrors, so the bright open space and no mirrors took a second to adjust to, but that is just preference, not a flaw. I love Urban Yoga! The studio is beautiful, and everybody there is kind, fun, and unpretentious. Both times I've gone now I've felt stretched and wonderful, and totally satisfied with myself and my body afterward. I LOVE Brook! What an amazing spirit. I have been to a lot of yoga studios and studied with different teachers and very rarely do you come across someone who brings such a sense of spirituality into the room. It is a small building and before you enter the building you have to remove your shoes. The yoga area is one medium size room with no mirrors and a bathroom in the back. The instructors usually sit in the middle with the students on the wall. They have a variety of practices and times available--gentle, all levels, and advanced. They even have a lunch time yoga, which is a nice balance between the gentle and advanced yoga. They also have meditation classes available. The three classes I have been too have been amazing. Particularly the lunch time and gentle yoga. The lunch yoga was a relaxing way to spend 50 minutes. The teacher was very gentle, warm, and welcoming. He offered various options for us and there was never any pressure to look or be like anyone else. I recommend getting to class a few minutes early as the room is small and space can fill up quickly. You do not need to RSVP for class, just check the times on their website and show up. It is a very welcoming place.
