Comes with a simple side salad that is packed with a delicious vinaigrette. The torta is more like a sandwich but nevertheless super FN delicious! Me and my fiancé went to this grand opening today. I had no idea of what kind of place this was but I was pleasantly surprised. Yes they had coffee but it wasn't just a coffee shop. There was all kinds of really good bowls, sandwiches, soups, and salad's. I got the California sandwich and it was so good. The main ingredient was the artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes and it was really flavorful the bread was really soft. They bake the bread there.:) my fiancé got a tri-tip chimichurri sandwich and he LOVED it! Sandwiches came with a little salad. I was really surprised by this place!! I have to admit I was boycotting this place for awhile. I didn't like the fact that they were shut down, and that they allowed an infected employee with Shigella to work even after the health department had taken the employee off of work and was told that he could not go back until cleared. That made me very wary for awhile. It's one thing that I was worried about getting sick, but another thing that they seemed to not care about keeping its customers safe. Finally after 3 months and the nudging of my boss, I finally went in to check it out. They have fresh warm cookies that they bake every hour or so, they have great specialty drinks. They have their own soft drinks and 3 types of lemonade. The menu seems really fresh and fun. I ordered the Chimi Churri and not thinking that It had cranberries in the marinade. It looked and smelled great, but when I got it, I saw the cranberries and told them I was allergic. They apologized even though they had no idea of my allergy, but they made me feel like I was not a bother. I offered to pay for another meal, but they would not allow it. My wife and I arrived to a slow shop. Two tables had a couple of people. They must have just slowed down after a rush because *every single table in the store* was littered with crumbs and trash. The floors were filthy. The girl who took our order gets a D- for customer service. It felt like we just showed up to McDonalds. She didn't ask if we had been there before even though we were staring quizzically at the big menu on the wall. She wasn't friendly (but by no means rude). Just not warm or welcoming. So - we ordered and after having been in the store for several minutes - *every single table* was still filthy. We know because we went to every table and looked. About 4-6 people were working and nobody came in after us for about 5 mins or so. It isn't hard to clean a table - I know this because I cleaned our own table. (Side note: One of the people who were seated when we arrived seemed to be an off-duty employee because she cleaned her own table with stuff from the back by the kitchen area.) I got a southwest sandwich. Apparently you get a salad with balsamic. I didn't catch that on the menu - had I seen it or, perhaps, been told by the person taking my order - I would have asked them to keep it. The sandwich is neither warm nor cold. It's like they half-melted a slice of cheddar over some chicken salad and put that on top of everything else (black beans and avocado and corn and whatever who cares it was pretty bland). The focaccia (I think) was chewy and close-textured. Not terrible but just another bit of mediocrity to top off a pretty shit experience. Won't be back and I recommend you consider any of the other dozen or so restaurants within a few hundred feet. read more

I absolutely love this place because the food is delicious. But this visit was not so great. It took us more than 30minutes to get our food and we were on our lunch from work. Why....because there was a big order that they were fulfilling. A true gem in the rough of NE Bakersfield. Urbane Cafe offers a wide variety of delicious, fresh, and healthy food with a few twists. From their craft beverages (Mango Lemonade is awesome) to their fresh baked bread...this cafe offers a unique experience compared to the many cookie cutter pop-ups around town. This is definitely my preferred choice now compared to Panera Bread. Well done Urbane Cafe! I hope to see more of these around town in the near future. Opening your first Central Valley location on the east side is definitely a risk IMO, but these would flourish out west. read more

My 18 year old son and I went to lunch here yesterday. First, being an Eastsider, I'm very grateful for all the new eateries that have been recently popping up over here, as this side of town gets very neglected when it comes to new businesses setting up shop. The East side is beautiful! My only complaint is that all the new food places are all being built in the same location, Mt. Vernon. This area is already highly congested as it is. There are a lot of areas in the North East that are suitable for new businesses. Anyways, I'm glad we got a new food chain on our side of town and even more happy that it's the only one in Bakersfield so far. Urbane has the whole new trendy atmosphere that new places are adapting too. It's not very large. Seating is limited. The menu offers a variety of sandwiches and salads. It's not a large menu, but I like that..its not overwhelming. The sandwiches are not your typical kind which is great, because it makes people step out of their comfort zone of boring subway style crap. There were 3 that appealed to me, but I choose the BBQ tri tip with a apple Cole slaw. My son choose the So. Cal Chicken sandwich. The sandwiches are made of focaccia bread. THIS is where they stand out. Its soft and flat and just good! They are round and cut in half. For me, a half would have been enough. All sandwiches come with a side salad , which is NOT a boring iceberg, lackluster mess.... nope, this is full of a variety of greens with some veggies, mandarin oranges and their house dressing which is very good. My son substituted his salad for a bowl of soup for an extra charge. I cant recal the name of the soup, it had a fancy name, but it was a chicken dumpling with veggies. He said it was like my homemade chicken soup, but with "doughballs." So, I'm guessing it was good. My sandwich was so tasty. That apple coleslaw really made it pop! There was a bit of a bbq sauce taste but not too much, which I prefer. There was also a little bit of spice to the sauce on the bread and melty cheese. ALL GOOD. I was given a free cookie for checking in on Yelp, which I saved and ate later I bed..lol.. and I'm a cookie snob..this was how I like my cookies. It was a oatmeal cranberry and it was crunchy and chewy. Perfect. Oh! The drinks are pricey... 2.50 each where I've noticed places like Panera charge high too, because their drinks are signature to them. Same here. They have a fountain machine with a brand I've never heard of. There was different flavors, one being "shirley temple" and they also had Urbane lemonade, watermelon and another flavor I cant recall. They also have Diet coke and regular coke. None of the other flavors were diet which I was sad about. I'm very excited about going back and trying other sandwiches. They have a Turkey, cranberry, brie which is one of my favorites and hard to find. They are pricey. Similar to Panera prices. The only thing I wished they had was more baked goods, like Panera and The corner bakery. I'm a sucker for good pastries and breads.
