I can only have The Californian sandwich here due to my restrictive diet. Before I went on my diet though, I had a few other dishes. Their food is good quality. Even though it is more on the expensive side, I think the quality makes up for it. I usually order from their app and they always get my order correct to the t. Their staff is always friendly and patient. I can't afford to come here too often, but it's my go-to when I don't have time to cook at home. Ordered online at 7am and said it would be ready by 11:15. Got here at 10:45. People sitting around before it opens. They did not have our order ready at the stated time and 11 other people who walked in received their food. I started complaining and they told me they are doing it right now. We should have ordered our food in the restaurant because we would have been out sooner than the online order. Online order should have been quicker. I tried this place for the second time today and I am very impressed. The prices are a little bit higher but everything is fresh and made from scratch and you can tell. I had the Cobb salad today and was a little disappointed when they told me they were out of blue cheese dressing but I did not even miss it. I first had Urbane Cafe in Oxnard years ago and was a fan of how awesome the salads and sandwiches were. Flash forward to now, and I'm still a fan of this establishment which recently opened on the East Side. What's great about Urbane Cafe is the menu has the variety to appease anyone in your party: the meat lover, the vegetarian, your "I only eat salads" buddy, etc. My friend and I recently dined here for lunch and had a great meal. I ordered the chimichurri steak sandwich and was blown away by the intense flavors and quality of the steak. Everything was incredibly fresh and top-quality. And the accompanying salad was crisp and lightly dressed. Their agua fresca type drinks were refreshing as well. I really hope Urbane Cafe flourishes because the East Side could use a culinary and commercial revival. This shopping center is a step in the right direction in bringing good food and retail to this side of town. It's super convenient and in a safe area with a lot of local shopping nearby. Second, the food is delicious! This brings me to why it's the perfect place when you don't know what you want! The options are varied but you can't go wrong with any of them. Everything is fresh and amazing!! I had the chicken torta and as long as you can handle heat, it is a taste wonderland! It was so good, I ate well past being full. My husband had the bbq chicken Sandwhich and it disappeared at lightening speed!! I'm convinced I could have thrown a dart at this menu and loved anything it hit! Their sodas are even pure cane craft sodas which normally we are hesitant to try but these were amazing! But in case you are less adventurous they also have some coke products! And then there are the lemonades which were also delicious. But what sets this place apart is Katie! She greets you at the door and if the wait is long she will even have delicious cookies to calm your hunger pains. How delicious? My best friend and I decided to drop by for the grand opening and we were not disappointed! The menu offers a great selection and everything is baked fresh and prepared with fresh ingredients. We split the Californian sandwich and it was filling as it also comes with a fresh salad on the side. Probably the best sandwich I've had EVER! As your paying they have fresh baked cookies that were too hard to pass up. The employees were very helpful and attentive. Everybody was happy and helpful! We need more places like this in Bakersfield and the manager was on hand helping and offering fresh fruit beverages and they were so refreshing for the triple digit weather. He table touched and explained how it's family owned and they plan to expand amongst the other 16 locations. Great fresh food, always sad to see so few people there, I hope more people give this place a chance. My only tip would be to heat the meat longer for the sandwich and heat the bread. We received our sandwiches right after they were made and the cheese had already melted and cooled on the cold contents. Has a pretty cool vibe in this place, the food was very very good I had the Moroccan chicken sandwich and an oatmeal cookie. The cookies are to die for!!! The chicken sandwich was amazing it had enough meat and veggies and I was pretty full afterwards and wanted more, I do recommend. But I do have to say the the craft sodas are not the best just get water or lemonade and the ice machine ran out of ice as well and created a long line for people waiting on the ice to be refilled, other that that I had a great time and enjoyed the food I do recommend this as a good dinner or lunch spot. read more
