I am from Los Angeles and have a couple of these places down south however my Boyfriend had never tried it, and it's on the healthier side so told him to take me. We have come here twice and both times staff and food have been really great. Staff is very friendly and accommodating and the food is always great, fresh and delicious and doesn't take too long. There cookies are pretty amazing too. Every time I am in town visiting I tell my boyfriend to take me and he enjoys it too. If I were to recommend anything it would be the Santa Maria salad or SoCal sandwich. read more

WOW. Do yourself a favor and come eat here, you will NOT regret it! I got the Santa Maria BBQ sandwich and it was divine! The salad it came with was also so good, and simple. I'm giving this place 5 stars, simply because their food and service is beyond amazing. Their always super fast at getting out our food and their food is delicious. I've had their So Cal sandwich, you can't go wrong with it. The only thing I would like to see it more inside seating, the inside lobby is kind of small and being in Bakersfield in the heat you don't always want to see outside in the heat. Best healthy option in the east side so far. Place is clean (of course place is new). Service is friendly. Food is tasty. But if you want to splurge because the food is too healthy...they have cookies too. Love that the sandwiches come with a side salad of mixed greens w/ some balsamic dressing, feta and orange slices. Their watermelon drink is so refreshing especially when it's super hot outside. Seating is limited indoors but do have an outdoor patio seating. Alaina, Shikira, Sarai, and Juan are the absolute best. We came in just before closing (not knowing) and they were so kind and accommodating. They didn't make us feel bad and were working so hard to close up shop while giving great costumer service. I am going to come back for the food but mainly because of them. Chicken Bon Mi Sandwich is perfect! Simply delicious. We've tried it 3 separate times, and the bon mi is consistently terrific

We came here on the grand opening and found the food to be very tasty. The vegetarian Banh Mi ($9.25) was very good with pickled radishes, roasted eggplant, zucchini, portobello mushroom, pickled fresno chilis, gochujang chili aioli and cilantro on their fresh bread. The sandwich always comes with a lightly dressed balsamic vinaigrette side salad. The tri-tip sandwich ($10.25) that is made with marinated BBQ tri tip steak, pepper jack cheese, apple coleslaw and chipotle aioli had a good taste but the tri-tip was soggy instead of a crisp texture as were used to the tri tip from Santa Maria. Service was good, even on the grand opening. Staff was very attentive. We would definitely stop at in an Urbane Cafe if we were traveling but would not make a point of special trip there. read more

First visited one of these restaurants in SLO and loved it right away. The question was weather they can bring that same type of vibe, energy, and food quality to Bakersfied. Urbane Cafe on Mt. Vernon definitely does not disappoint. The food is fresh and the menu offers a variety of healthy tasty choices. My favorite, and one I highly recommend, is the Ahi Tuna Salad. The greens where crisp, the tuna was fresh and tasty, and the dressing it's paired with is creamy and has a little kick to it nicely complimenting the salad. The fresh baked bread is also very good (comes with the salad of your choice). I also tried the chicken curry salad bowl but have to admit I wasn't crazy about it and would not order the dish again BUT if you're a fan of curry then for sure try it out. Grabbed a couple of cookies to go just to try and they where also very good. The staff was friendly and restaurant was clean which is always a plus. read more

I love Urbane Cafe. I've eaten here many times. In my opinion, the turkey club sandwich is the best. The lemon cookies are divine--warm and yummy. I think the bread makes a sandwich. Fillings are all pretty much the same, but terrific bread takes a sandwich to another level. Urbane Cafe has terrific bread! Our server, Ambri, went above and beyond to take care of us. She even offered us cookie samples. All very good but I still like the lemon cookies the best. I will continue to recommend Urbane Cafe to my friends. read more

Having moved to Northeast Bakersfield a few months ago from the Southwest, I was hard pressed to find a nice healthy restaurant until Urbane Cafe opened. Hands down the best sandwiches in all of Bakersfield! Their Southwest cilantro chicken is the absolute bomb. I have yet to try any other sandwiches, but I've heard all sorts of good things about them. On top of that, they make amazing lemonades and the staff is friendly and accommodating of dietary needs. I'm lactose intolerant and they have no issues making sure what I'm eating won't set off any symptoms. The food and service is well worth the price especially with how quickly they can get food out. read more
