I would recommend getting the sandwich rather than lettuce wrap because the bread is pretty delicious. The lettuce wrap was just too much lettuce for me. The cookies are some of the best out there! My favorite is the lemon coconut. It's got that nice sweet flavor with mild tartness. The cookies are made fresh and still warm you get them. Just a nice little treat to finish off the meal. Ok so a little bit of Valencia, San Diego, Oxnard has made it's way to Bakersfield. This killer new Cafe is located inside the same strip center that has Smart N Final off Mt Vernon. As you walk in the door your greeted by some cheerful staff working hard behind the counter creating some killer sandwiches, salads and cookies. This family owned business has only been open for a few days and according to some of the staff we had chance to visit with us it has been a huge hit. Honestly I'm really glad we have a place like this located on the Eastside. FYI they are looking at opening another location off Coffee near the new Buffalo Wild Wings location. As you walk in you'll take a right to place your order. There are a couple of kiosk's so the line should move at a good pace just make sure you grab a menu as you walk in so you can make selection. Oh they do have an app and you can place an order and you'll also receive some points. If you open an app they will give you $3 and for every $100 spent you'll get a $5 credit. They have several sandwiches and soups to choose from. They also have several homemade killer cookies. On this night they were giving out samples. Our favorite if we had to choose was the lemon macadamia nut. (the bomb)!!!! The sandwiches are served on freshly made bread kind of a focaccia type bread. My wife ordered the Turkey Club and I ordered the Southwest. The Southwest had a generous amount of chicken with a little kick to it along with little chunks of avocado, black bean and for salsa with pepper jack cheese and a chipotle aioli. This was a little messing but packed with all kinds of flavors and diffidently will be ordered again. This came with a small spring mix salad with a light vinaigrette and topped with feta cheese. The order was big enough for me to take half of my sandwich home for lunch the next day. ( could have been the cookie's I kept sampling too) My wife's Turkey Club was just as loaded as my sandwich.It had a large amount of Roasted turkey, crispy bacon, nice amount of avocado, tomato and melted cheddar cheese. This was also a little messing but she didn't complain once. I actually was able to get one bite of it before the entire sandwiches was gone. This was also accompanied with the same side salad. We also go a cup of the chicken spaetzle fancy for chicken in dumpling soup. It was extremely tasteful and would be better on a nice cool day but still was very good. They also have a few homemade lemonades and when I say homemade they actually take watermelon and mint for one of them and strain out all the pulp and make fresh squeezed if you can squeeze a watermelon lemonade!! The good folks at the Urbane Cafe were kind enough to host a Yelp event here, and my wife and i were able to try their menu. Before i get into the food, and the service, I'd love to mention that being born and raised in NE Bakersfield, it feels great to have a place like this on our side of town. The place was trendy, fresh, and a nice change of pace. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE taco trucks, Mexican restaurants that have been around for decades, and other Mom and pop places that the "Eastside" is known for. However, there is definitely a need for this type of restaurant, and I'm a fan. The service was pretty good considering it has only been open for a couple weeks. The staff all had smiles on their faces, including those that were slaving over a hot prep area. I ordered a BBQ Tri-tip sandwich which came with a decent sized green salad. I'm glad I ordered the chipotle aioli on the side because I was able to dip both my sandwich and my salad into it. I also ordered my apple coleslaw on the side instead of in the sandwich. I'm not a fan of coleslaw in general, but my wife is and she said it was a bit less than average. I also had a double chocolate cookie (AMAZING and only $2), and a regular drink. I must brag, the lemonade (all flavors) was out of this world! So here's my critique. Parking: super tight but not much the business can do about it. Portion of meat: below my standard for the price of the sandwich. For nearly $11 I would expect a minimum 6 oz. of Tri-tip. This had MAAAAYBE 4 oz.
