This is a great place to eat [seemingly] healthy food in SCV. It's always super busy and packed, but the wait is never that long. Since it's usually packed (especially during lunch or dinner time), I tend to order everything over the phone and go pick it up to-go. The food has always been ready as soon as I get there which is great--the place is pretty tiny so there's not much standing room. That's the only problem with this place. It's sometimes hard to find a place to sit, but there always tables outside too if the weather permits. My favorite is the Pesto Chicken Sun-dried Tomato sandwich. Their sandwiches are more like Paninis with their melted cheese and savory flavors. I've heard their vegetarian sandwiches are delicious too. I recently found out that there is an Urbane Cafe in San Diego too--I can't wait to try that one while I'm going to school down there! Yum! read more

If you're making a trek up or down I-5, this local chain is a much nicer stop than a fast-food or even a national chain. The sandwiches come with a side salad, so it's less greasy than fries or chips (though chips are available for purchase). I got the So-Cal sandwich, since I was headed to So-Cal. It was tasty and portion size was filling (I couldn't finish the last few bites of mine). Service is friendly and facilities are clean. It is part of a larger shopping center, so don't expect really fine dining or anything. I would stop by here again on my next road trip! read more

Great place for a sandwich. Love the bread they use. My favorite is the South West Chicken sandwich. They serve a basic green salad with their sandwiches which is pretty nice. I'd also recommend their asparagus soup. Their sandwiches are very filling. Usually hard to get a table during lunch time. Absolutely great place. The sandwiches all taste great and use fresh ingredients. They come with a side salad that also is very good. The plates look fancy while only coming at about $10-$12 for a sandwich (that comes w/ side sale) and drink. Customer service is also phenomenal. Very friendly and patient. They would always take the time to explain the menu to me and made sure I'd find something I'd like. The cafe has a nice clean feel to it and there's usually plenty of seating. read more

Fresh and tasty! Had the seasonal salad and Auntie had the Cobb salad. Both were wonderful with chunks of real rotisserie chicken that was extremely moist and delicious. Salads are accompanied with an amazing piece of handmade (you can watch them roll out the dough in front of you) focaccia bread. When I'm back to visit I'll make a stop here. read more

Great food but the fact that the cashier tonight did not care about a customer's food allergy really sucks! I specifically told her about a bean allergy and she marked the wrong item. When the caring light finally turned on and she realized what she did, still didn't care how she returned the three salads back to me.....clearly she did not want to be there tonight. The bread is so soft and the chicken so fresh. I do not like rubbery chicken, yet this chicken is tender and the perfect texture. I usually order their salads, which are healthy and filling. It also helps that they have a very friendly and helpful staff. We will be back! read more

This place never lets me down. They are along the lines of Stone Oven in the mall but good and without the Health Inspector issues. I have had the vegi sandwiches and the meat fare and both have been great. Looks to be very popular with the Cal Arts kids. I really like getting a salad rather then fries or chips, at least I think I am eating smarter. Service has always been spot on and am always greeted by a friendly place. The interior is well done and the photos of local landmarks on the wall is a very nice touch. read more

I went for lunch with a friend and got the Southwest Chicken sandwich, and boy, it was delicious. I loved the avocado, corn, and sauce they used; everything tasted very fresh. The portion didn't seem big at first but my friend and I both agreed that it was VERY filling. I was stuffed after barely finishing my meal while my friend could only finish half of her sandwich (but then again, we both have pretty small stomachs). I was pleasantly surprised with a side salad along with my sandwich. The salad actually ended up being very delicious. It was all dark leaves and none of that iceberg lettuce I normally find in side salads. I'm definitely going back. Can't wait to try their specialty salads after loving their house side salad. I'm really disappointed to have to give this place two stars. And it only gets two because the staff was very friendly...although they weren't able to tell me if a soup actually contained meat, they were extremely friendly when trying. I follow a health oriented, pescatarian diet (vegetarian, raw fish only), and am always excited to hear about a new restaurant that caters to my particulars, especially in Valencia where you find mostly chain restaurants. I read such great reviews on here as well, so I was really looking forward to eating here. Unfortunately, it was REALLY underwhelming. The place is a bit small for their business - there were a LOT of people there, which for me only added to the expectation of great food. They work on the buzzer system, so we were able to sit and not mill around waiting for the food, which was great, as it took quite a while. I ordered the Caprese sandwich, and was not happy with it. 'Caprese' is great because of it's simple tastes - fresh cheese, basil, and tomato. Add oil or balsamic according to your tastes, and viola...it's..pretty hard to mess it up. Congrats, UrbC! The sandwich was so heaped with some odd, creamy aioli sauce that it was soaking through the bottom...it was so soggy that it was impossible to eat without a fork - I dubbed it a soup-wich. Small tomato pieces sliced so thinly barely registered, and there was no basil to be found. I hate to be so blunt and basic, but it was actually pretty gross. And the idea that that sandwich is anything close to health conscious is a laugh, and I didn't see much that struck me as healthy - everything I saw people eating around me was covered with cheese or sauce...? Perhaps it was just a bad day or bad selection, but you know what they say about first impressions...so I won't be returning. read more

The perfect lunch spot in the SCV. Their sandwiches are always delicious and their salads are yum too! Food is made to order, so it's always fresh and tasty. They use THE BEST bread for their sandwiches. It's always really busy here though, so it may be hard to find a seat, but the food is most definitely worth the wait! I absolutely love Urbane Cafe...The salads are really the best - very interesting choices, generous sizes - even to share, fresh as can be and price is right! My son and I get a salad or two several times a week for about 3 years now and never had a problem of any kind. Our favorites are the Cobb salad and Protein salad but my son had a pastrami sandwich yesterday for a change and said it was really great.
