Came here for happy hour with friends. We got all four of the dishes on the happy hour menu. My favorite were #1 Brussels sprouts were cooked to perfection. Then the #2 spot landed on the smashed burger then the #3 spot were the refinery fries with beer braised short ribs on them. The 4th and 5th landed on the fried chicken sando and the Fish & Chips. The place is a combination of a bar and seating area but no TV's to watch a game. It was pretty dead when we were dining and I hope it got better when dinner time came around because the food was good and so was the service as our waiter came by frequently to check on us and refill our drinks. We recently had a death in our family which led us to look for a restaurant away from the city. In doing some research we came to find that Newhall had a few new restaurants, based on the reviews and the pictures we traveled there to the Newhall Refinery. The street front seating and building architecture is very appealing and welcoming. As you enter the main doors, you are greeting by friendly staff. We were offered any open seating, we decided to take a table against the back wall that was adjacent to the entry. The decor inside is very rustic with a touch of micro brewery, the ceiling has many tap handles that adorn the ceiling. The menu and food, we were initially drawn into the Refinery since they seem to be the only spot that offered Brunch and Mimosas in the downtown street. Key point of clarification, the Mimosas are simi bottomless (you have 90 min) to pour down, some of us really like Mimosas, plus the price was just slightly higher that we typically expect at 27, per person. Were they good, yes, so we decided to go with one Mimosa and an Old Fashion drink, it was very well done, Buffalo Trace Bourbon. We ordered from the Brunch menu, the Steak and Eggs, cooked to your liking, they did a great job on both, the one item that we were less impressed with were the overcooked Oreda looking potatoes that accompanied the meals. We also ordered the Cacio e Pepe Beni, Prosciutto, perfect poached eggs and all of the other fixings, it was great testing and the presentation was amazing. As far as my overall rating I could not give it a 5 star due to what other customers have shared in their reviews, the wait staff is not timely, almost forced friendly and possibly just lacking some restaurant experience, they did not come around or notice things like empty water glasses and a few other things, could have been understaffed possibly on this day. Overall I would still recommend the Refinery due to the location, atmosphere, drinks and main dish prep. This was our first visit, and we were pleasantly surprised at how well it all went, especially on an evening before a holiday when many places were closed. The food was well prepared overall. The highlight was the French Dip -- my husband found it all quite delicious. Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed the Short Rib Ragu. My Pesto Pasta with Shrimp was very good -- I would have preferred a harder sear on the shrimp. Tammy was our wonderful server who took great care of us. Food was ok I guess but certainly not for the price. Whoever said their short rib is amazing, I must disagree as I found out to have no flavor at all. I was in the SCV and wanted a fun outing with my girl. Old town Newhall is bustling with new energy and seems to be on its way back as the door to go. The atmosphere was casual with many patrons appearing to be on date night. The wine list was mostly from central coast and had some lovely choices. My girl had the steak frites and I had the name asked chopped salad with chicken. We both greatly enjoyed the music, conversation and our food choices. We ended with a special dessert of donuts and coffee ice cream and hot fudge.. just fantastic!!! If you're near by drop in for a drink, food or just say hi to the staff. Yelp never fails. Worth the drive off the 5 freeway! We came in for lunch on a weekday and will be back. My husband and I were happy with our meals especially when they came exactly as ordered plus or minus items. Our waitress made sure it came as ordered as well. The service was quick and the food was bountiful. We expected to take food home but pretty much cleaned our plates with how well it tasted. The space inside is a bit tight, but my wife and I easily grabbed a high-top table and quickly dove into the craft beer selection. I have to mention the delicious peanut butter stout--it was absolutely fantastic. Their pub food is also great; the burgers we ordered were top-notch. We got seated quickly since we got to the restaurant around 11:30am and ordered items off the menu. I've had this on my list to try for a while now and didn't plan on coming by last night but we did! My bf and our friends were basically doing a bar hopping night and this was our last stop. Came by maybe an hour or an hour and a half before they closed and only planned on getting drinks but the pretzel was calling to us lol! Love a good pretzel, especially if salted well and with good dips! I really enjoyed the honey mustard and especially the Dijon! The Dijon had quite the kick but it was absolutely perfect with the pretzel and nice with the side of pickles. The boys enjoyed their drinks, I only got an iced water but we had a nice end of the night, chatting and good small bites. It was busy and there was also a large party next to our table. Although there was no host when we walked in, I managed to flag someone down eventually and we got seated pretty quickly. Service was also quick and great! The server never came back to check on us or ask if we wanted refills on our drinks. Getting our to-go boxes also took about 20 mins. I had to get up and ask.
