Sorry in advance for the long review. I've been an UrbanStems customer for a few years and had good experiences until now. I purchased a double bouquet as a birthday present. A day before the scheduled delivery I got an email informing me that my order would be upgraded to one of their Vogue arrangements because my selection didn't meet their quality control standards. The substitute looked very similar to my choice so I was fine with the swap. The bouquet arrived on time, but the flowers were wilted because they weren't adequately insulated for the frigid temperatures and it was a single bouquet. I didn't want to take the bouquet out of the box, but their customer service said they needed pictures. I got a rude reply reminding me that I needed to report issues within 48 hours of delivery (that's how bad the bouquet looked). I told them to check the tracking number to prove my case was filed the same day as delivery. I also mentioned that I was offended by the insinuation that I was trying to scam them. They also reminded me of their terms and conditions (which I'm very familiar with), but they'll give me merchandise credit this one time as a favor. I was ready to accept a credit until that reply. I wish UrbanStems had implemented a more thoughtful solution, such as a refund or allowing me to make an alternate selection. They only considered cost when upgrading my order to a single Vogue arrangement, and neglected to consider the impact I wanted of a double bouquet. I got my refund after UrbanStems realized they messed up, but no apology for the experience. My future purchases will be with local florists from now on. I've used UrbanStems several times now for a variety of occasions. Most recently, I ordered some flowers to be sent to my friend who lost a loved one. I forgot that the recipient wouldn't be home for several weeks so I reached out to their customer service. Within minutes, they responded and said they will ensure the delivery will be made the day I asked for. I recently ordered a bouquet that was shipped overnight in warm weather. It didn't fare well. I had to throw away the eucalyptus and some white filler flowers that didn't survive the trip. The roses were damaged and never opened, but overall it still looked ok and was fine (if not stellar) for my event. I wasn't going to say anything and just chalk it up to win some/lose some, but then I received an email from Urban Stems to ask how I liked the delivery. I had to change my shipping date after my order shipped due to learning of my recipient's vacation. I received roses 2 days after Mother's Day. The flowers were in terrible condition. they arrived in a box in very dry condition. The tips of the rose petals were all brown. They had no fragrance at all. I clipped the stems and put them in water immediately. It didn't help. They were dead. My son wasted his money. Very disappointing. I wanted to try a new flower service for Mother's Day. I read up on this company and thought this would be it. I had to ask how many roses come in the arrangement because there are no details on the website (should have been my first clue). The automated person said there would be 36. When my mom received the flowers, the vase was smashed, the candle was open and had glass in it. The flowers are half dead and they count tee roses as part of the 36. This is by far the worst flower arrangement I have ever gifted. Thank goodness I tested them on my mom and not for a get well or.... I gave two stars because they gave me a refund quickly. I have ordered 10 stems of peonies for the last 3 years from urban stems. The first two orders were fine. This last order arrived as all buds and the leaves were wilted - the flowers were send dry. After cutting the stems, the leaves perked up and 8 of the peonies opened over a couple of days. After 6 days, 2 of the stems have not opened despite repeated cutting and water changes. I just ordered from Urban Stems for the first time, and wish I had read reviews first. I am so disappointed with my experience. I ordered Mother's Day flowers a few weeks ago, to be delivered the Friday before Mother's Day. Leaving personal details aside - this gift needed to get there on time, and in hindsight I should have worked with a local florist to ensure that it got done right. I received a message late last week that my order was upgraded because the flowers I ordered did not meet their quality standards, but that they'd be delivered the day after Mother's Day. I reached out, disappointed, and they offered to refund my shipping charge. Not a great result, as flowers are INHERENTLY a date-driven gift where the delivery day matters. But I was cordial and felt like they had at least tried to make it right. Fast forward to today, the day after Mother's Day, and there is now a delivery exception. I reach out, and I am told that they can redeliver it WEDNESDAY. At this point - what IS the point? The recipient got nothing on the holiday, and having it arrive three days later feels absolutely pointless and embarrassing. I asked for a partial refund, and was sent the formal "policies" page which basically says all purchases are final. The customer service agent seemed astonished that I would dare ask for a refund beyond the shipping fee, because "we are redelivering it for you for FREE" they said. Well - I ordered a service - flowers delivered by a certain date - and did not get what I ordered. I want my money back. Why is this so hard to understand? Never again. read more

I called them immediately to correct the error. They refused. They said I ordered 3 and they couldn't alter the order. The total is above $200!!! I called my cc to block the charge. When I got this bouquet of flowers it came in a box. When I open the box I saw that everything had been crammed into the box on top of the flowers (A teddy bear and a box of chocolates). The roses were flattened and compressed by the objects laying on them. There was nothing on the cut stems to keep them wet. A lot of the rose heads were wilted and browning as you can see in the pictures. There was one rose that was completely broken and hanging down (see photo). I ordered a custom vase with our picture on it. It's just a plain clear glass vase with a waterproof picture loose inside of it. I'm not complaining about it but it is interesting. I guess I was expecting something else. I believe that it should have been explained better on the website. This was a surprise for my girlfriend's birthday and I was disappointed. I contacted Urban stems and the representative offered me 25% refund but we were disconnected before it went through. I contacted them again and as you can see by the chat transcript I have included I was offered a credit and then after requesting it, a refund for the full amount. The representative in the transcript that I have included was wonderful, she was so polite and helpful. It is a bummer that the entire experience wasn't great. I read a lot of the reviews for this business and I can honestly say that I can relate. This is unfortunate. When they started out, Urban Stems were responsible and reliable. However, last December I ordered flowers as a thank you to a friend. I was emailed that the flowers had been delivered.. They weren't. It took three tries and two weeks for Urban Stems to get to my friend. And by this point, the surprise and sense of expectation had vanished and now it was just let's get this delivered and over with. Okay, everyone screws up occasionally. However, last week I ordered flowers for another friend to thank them for a kindness. Once again, I received notices that the flowers were up for delivery, and that they were received. Even sent a photo of the box. Except that photo was of a box on a deck that didn't belong to my friend. My friend had no flowers. So I called Urban Stems, and explained the issues to a young woman whose responses were completed dictated but the standard answers she was reading from a stream. She told me that they would deliver again, but by this point, I just wanted a refund. Not knowing what to do, she insisted she had to speak to her supervisor, put me on hold for 15 mins and then told me that the supervisor would only agree to a 50% refund on a service I paid for and didn't receive. I responded that if I didn't get a full refund I was going on Yelp, Trip Advisor, Reddit, and all the online sites I write for and trash them. Put on hold again. She comes back and now promises a refund. It took a threat. Except it then gets worse. Three hours after I hung up and told them I would never work with them again, my friend sent me a picture of flowers she had just received. Except they arrived with no note to reflect the one I had written online and the bouquet was not even close to the one I had chosen. Neither was the vase. The bouquet looked cheap and thrown together. It would have been better if Urban Stems had sent nothing. I would rather swallow a fork then use Urban Stems again. read more

2nd update: After e-mailing customer service about the withered flowers, they offered credit for another bouquet. My boyfriend had to pay $8 for delivery, even with the credit. This second bouquet was much better, tulips that were fresh and hand delivered. However, getting what you pay for and what's advertised shouldn't involve having to write about your experiences on yelp and emailing customer service to have another order of flowers delivered after the first one was such a disaster. Upgrading the review to 2 stars, but this was too much of a hassle for us to have Faith in using urban stems again. Though good for them in giving us credit for a do-over. read more

HORRIBLE experience. Received $210 "peonies" arrangement for my birthday. Arrangement arrived destroyed with dead flowers and only one peonies. It is half the size of what was displayed on the website and look like a previously wrapped bodega arrangement that has been sitting out for days. I reached out to customer services to express the issue and their response was that the "arrangement arrived without issue" and they neither accepted the flower return for a refund or a replacement. This place is a joke. Save your money and go to your local bodega -- flowers are of a much higher quality, better customer service at a fraction of the price. read more

No notice there was a problem. Emailed, tried to call no one answers, went to chat - still waiting for "live" person to help after 15min from computer. No one ever came on the chat from my phone after 25 min. minutes. So frustrating. Not sure how the review people had such quick responses - It is noon on Sat and noone seems to be available. Very frustrating. You can bet there charge went through on the credit card despite name error. Finally connected to find out company having "technical issues, apologized for not letting me know. They could resend Dec 10 - 4 days after they were supposed to deliver. Needless to say that is too late. Refund issued, though won't be credited for 5-10 days. Always frustrating given the charge is always immediate. So sad as flowers were for a needed pick my up for my daughter-in-law. The lack of communication, (notification of unfulfilled order, as challenges getting through to customer support, poor correction options for make-up delivery) are key reasons for rating.
