My first URBN experience was unfortunately a complete miss. Having heard how awesome the North Park location is, I was hoping this location would be great as well. Upon entering we were told to seat ourselves and then waited about 10 minutes for menus. My date and I went half polpetta con provolone and peppered salami. About 30 minutes later a flaming oval pizza emerged. On both halves the toppings were of fantastic quality. In particular I really enjoyed the meatball on the polpetta con provolone. Unfortunately the massive amounts of charcoal on the crust overwhelmed all the fine toppings. While waiting for the check/service, I used the restroom and nearly passed out on the floor. The bathroom was like an outhouse! It was stuffy with almost no ventilation, but with a window slightly cracked open. By the end of the URBN experience my buns were sore from sitting so long on the wooden chair. Yikes! read more

I really like URBN Pizza. More so, I like love their salads. We were originally looking at Blue Ribbon Pizza but their prices were outrageous. We came to URBN and saw that their prices for pizza were pretty high too, but I knew that they were larger in size and had a good reputation for quality. We came in and sat in the back room. CHOPPED ITALIAN SALAD - lettuce, radicchio, salami, tomato, onion, chickpea, peperoncini, vinaigrette. This was was a perfect salad as far as I was concerned. It was so flavorful with the tangy peperoncinis. We got a large and split it.. PEPPERED SALAMI PIZZA - red pie, pepperoni, pepperoncini, fresh mozzarella. Just know that I'm a fan of bold strong flavors so this was right up my alley. It might be a bit too much flavor for those that like their pizza on the boring side.When salami is heated up the flavor intensifies. [B]URBN BBQ CHICKEN PIZZA - red pie, mozzarella, bacon, scallion, bbq sauce, parmesan For me, it was a bit too sweet for my liking but everyone else at the table liked it. tip - I'd rather order two smalls than one large so you can try two different styles. You can also go half and half on a pie. The downfall of this location is the lack of A/C and lack of breeze. You literally have to eat with an industrial fan blowing on you to avoid heat exhaustion. Another unfortunate scenario where the food is great, the staff is lovely and the setting is trendy but the restaurant is owned by an egomaniac. The owner apparently enjoys telling its paying customers (whom they've already taken money from) that they have far more important and expensive orders at hand so they don't care about small ones. Because of this pompous business outlook URBN neglected their customers and on top of that cussed them out. What an outstanding guy! I definitely know that when I want to have an event catered, I want the owner to be vulgar before hand. I'm not sure about everybody else but I prefer to frequent dining establishments that treat me the same way whether I'm there for just a quick drink or a huge party. The owner's behavior is atrocious. They seem far too emotional to be running a business. Maybe they can't handle the pressure. Customer service isn't for you, Ol' Pal. Again, I would like to stress, every interaction I've ever had with the employees have been absolutely delightful. It's just the owner that's the problem. Poor thing. read more

As 2 couples we went there for a good pizza, but we were all very disappointed. Both pizzas we ordered were completely burnt around the edges. The pizza were placed in a giant cardboard box becoming very soft and mushy by the time we ate them. We all decided not to go there again. Culinary Russian Roulette When it's good, it's really good. Definitely has the ability to be 5 star pizza. The sauce is flavor packed and they use fresh ingredients (cheese basil, etc). Love the thin crispy crust. Oh, but when it's not good -- you'll wish you had opted for DiGiorno's or even Ellio's (for you east coasters). Tonight was not good. Cold Cheese. Chewy stale crust. URBN has always been my favorite San Diego thin crust based pizza place and I'm so pleased they opened a location in North County coastal. The Vista and North Park locations are both great too, but the Encinitas location is more convenient for me :) The location is small, but tables turnover pretty quickly as there really isn't a reason to hang out at this location as there is no TV and only a small bar area, But this is a good thing for efficiently getting you that pizza you crave. Pizzas are the reasons you go here, but their URBN salad is quite fantastic with sliced pears, candied nuts, and gorgonzola cheese, and a tasty dressing. The salad is good for sharing while waiting for your pie to cook. NOTE: The build your own Red Pizza with Mozz is my favorite base and it is quite different than the Margherita pizza with fresh Mozz and basil. I suggest adding your toppings to red+Mozz. The crust comes out crisp but chewy and very flavorful in the coal fired tradition. I haven't tried a calzone but intend to in the future. They serve rotating taps from URBN street brewing and they also have several craft bottle beer choices as well as wine. Staff here are friendly and efficient. Located on Hwy 101 through Encinitas, URBN Pizza is small, having what looked like 12-15 tables, but also some bar style seating by take out cashier area. Ordered our two pizzas (one BBQ chicken and one cheese) and large URBN salad over the phone. We arrived 20 minutes later as directed, only to have the cashier tell us that he'd placed our large BBQ chicken pizza in as a small, and could we wait 10 minutes for to him to make us another small. Sure,no problem, we'll go take a walk up the street. Returning 10-ish minutes later we are given our three boxes, two small and one large pizzas, plus the salad. They were huge pizzas, I think we could have just ordered smalls. The quality was good, service was friendly, parking stinks, only street parking and you have to park 4-5 blocks away on a Saturday night. Good, local pizza joint! I love the fresh ingredients and that they will do half and half on a pizza (even if you get a small). My boyfriend loved the chicken pesto pizza. I got the vegan pizza which was good but I wish I asked for a drizzle of pesto because it needed a little more flavor. The host was very nice. The crust was hard and flat, the quality of the pepperoni and sausage was so poor -- the pizza was floating in grease and the box was saturated in grease, too -- this NEVER happened before. Our favorite salad, Chopped Italian with no meat, tasted horrible -- it's not even the same salad. This salad use to be soooooo good with shaved parmesan -- quite unique and always beautiful to look at. What a great disappoint. Our take out order cost a $105 with a $10 tip. Very sad, sorely never going back, NEVER. We agree with the other folks who know this restaurant -- something is up at our favorite pizza place -- did they sale? Now what is this business about coal fired pizza? There are plenty of wood fired pizza places, is this just a gimmick? Our waiter graciously gave me a tour of the oven. And there was the coal! The real deal. No wussy wood, but serious, bad-ass coal! Garcia's job is to keep feeding the oven coal to keep the internal temperature between 800-900 degrees. Holy hot oven! But that is the beauty of using coal. You can get the oven ridiculously hot which produces crisp, tender pizza crusts. The pizzas take only 2-3 minutes to cook, again, making this place exactly relevant for today's inpatient consumers. Their unique coal fire oven makes a perfect crust in only minutes. If you want something better than just good, order the Mashed Potato Pizza. It's one of the best pizzas I have ever had. The acoustics aren't great, so if it's a romantic evening you want, not so much here. I was so excited to order pizza, and was SO disappointed. My house is literally 8 minutes from the restaurant. It was picked up and dropped off in 8 minutes. So it was not the driver's fault. It felt like it had sat for 20 minutes before being delivered. Ate here today and the pizza was great. We ordered a large build your own with arugula, mushrooms, green bell peppers, olives, pepperoni, peppercinis, Spinach, artichoke, and sausage. We also got a small classic pepperoni pizza, urbn salad, and strawberry soda. The urban salad was AMAZING! Loved the dressing and the greens are so fresh. The pizza is made through the classic coal brick ovens (which i love) and took about 20 minutes. Great place to fill up for lunch & cute interior. My only suggestion is that it's very dark in the back area (since the only source of lighting is through the windows in the front. Also beware because since the food is so fresh and cooked through coal brick ovens, the toppings slide right off. So I suggest, just eating it with a fork and knife. Ordered the Chicken Pesto Pizza and was a bit disappointed. It lacked flavor. I love pesto and this just didn't have enough flavor, it was pretty bland. Mind you I still ate it, but when I took my leftovers home I added parmesan cheese and that helped kick it up a notch! My friend ordered the Gouda Garlic Alfredo white pizza and that was delicious! We like the URBN in Del Mar at One Paseo so we thought that Encinitas would be good too. We arrived and the had indoor and outdoor seating but that doesn't matter because any table you sat at was dirty, even though there was no one else in the restaurant. We had to order at the bar and the salad was good but the dry rub wings were drenched in oil and had so much chili pepper on them, they were hard to eat without choking or coughing. Ambiance is fantastic and the crust is pretty good. But I found the giant pizza to be so salty and flavorless. Overall, left half of it and I never leave leftovers. But I dare say it was almost inedible. And we ordered half meatball and half eggplant and there was about 2 slices with meatball and the rest was their salty eggplant. Came here for lunch the other day and loved their pizza! Mushroom and pepperoni was great but I loved the Margherita particularly. Many places don't use red sauce on their Margheritas, but they do here and I am partial for this reason. Crust is thin and crispy and perfect. We also had two salads, the Italian and the URBN. Obviously salad is not going to be the highlight of a pizza place, but they were decent as well. Nice lunch experience overall. One weird quirk: they serve their wine not in a wine glass, but in a small water glass. read more
