Training moment for you all, please read. Hopefully other people can avoid this scenario. Do not use this urologist, go anywhere but here. Nothing but problems. 1. Dr. Shaw gave me a vasectomy and several days later I had a giant lump on the right side. Went back several times over the next few months to see him and only saw his associates who gave me round of antibiotics, three rounds in a row before addressing any of the problems. I would request to see him on the phone they would say yes it's with him and it would just be another person who's never seen me before. The last visit I had was with a woman who actually shot me straight and said this is not normal and did not want to give me a fourth round of antibiotics. 2. After these multiple visits request requesting him but getting a nurse or associate I Literally had to stand in the office and demand to see him, they pulled me aside because I was being a squeaky wheel demanding to see the surgeon who bought my operation. Hence, I finally got to see Dr. Shaw directly after months and months of pain and suffering . 3. He told me that he no longer uses the technique that he used on me for this very reason, he could fix it, but it's a surgery and he has to put me under and my insurance would not cover it. He also agreed he would not bill me for that appointment. He looked in my eyes, shook my hand and told me he would not bill me. 4. Months and months later I get a bill for that visit from Dr. Shaw's office. Today I called and when I questioned it, they said they would take the co-pay off and I asked if I should call my insurance agency so they can take the entire visit off as discussed. The associate at Dr. Shaw's office hung up on me. They are trying to cover their tracks on a false bill in over billing situation She then handed me over to the practice manager. Large lump is still here and I've seen another urologist to see about taking care of it. I do not recommend using Dr. Shaw because of his inability to see a patient directly after a surgery when something went wrong. I had to stand my ground and demand to see him before he would. Then he made false promises and build me in my insurance anyway. If I personally would rate him as a surgeon, I would say one star because he botched mine, but I'm sure some things go wrong. The true one star situation here is a lack of ability to address the problem, when he did address the problem he made false promises, The manager said she would call me back in three days. I'll have another post on this in three days to see if this was taken care of. I'm also contacting my insurance agency to report an over billing statement. Dr. Shaw, hello from Travis hope you see this and I'm sure you remember me. Again, the one star is not because you botched my surgery. It's because of lack of the ability to own up to it, are you going through three rounds of antibiotics for something? That's not an infection, me having to stand in front of your office and demand to see you before I could see you again, and then making false promises to me afterwards. After a year of talks and tests, he persuaded me to have my prostate surgically removed. A year and a half after the surgery, my frequent-urination problem had not improved. His only advice was to have patience; sometimes bladders took a "long time" to "settle down" after a surgery. I consulted my family-practice physician. He figured out that the frequent-urination problem was not caused by something with my bladder or prostate. It was caused by high blood-sugar (diabetes). After I changed my diet and started taking diabetic medicine, my urination problem went away. How is it possible that after years of medical school, and more years of being a practical urologist, Dr. Ruff was unable to imagine an alternative explanation for an old man's frequent-urination problem other than that it was caused by a malfunctioning bladder/prostate? I can only think of two possible explanations. Either he is deeply stupid, or does not care about the welfare of his patients. My advice: stay away from him.

Their version of consent was leaving me a VM stating my appointment was canceled and they had rescheduled it (another month out)... and if that didn't work for me, it was my responsibility to call and change the appointment. Every other doctor I've had chooses to confirm with me directly instead of half-assing it over VM. I checked my VM and don't have that message. It appears that they did not try to reach me after that to confirm. One VM and done. So I just wasted a vacation day at work and a 45 minute drive from Elgin (+ gas abd tolls) only to find out they rescheduled my appointment without any comfirmation. All delivered with a cold and unsympathetic soul punch. "We left you a voicemail telling you to call back if that didn't work for you" was their mentality. TL;DR: they canceled and rescheduled my appointment over VM. Then washed their hands of the responsibility to confirm it with me. I wasted a vacation day, time, gas and tolls because they never confirmed it with me. All for test results that could have been discussed over the phone. Also, their portal is horrible and rarely works.

I was told I was "tentatively" on the surgery schedule but they were needing confirmation from the hospital and they would give me a call about it when they knew. I never got a call, had to call Again Myself and was told the same thing, that it was "tentative" and someone would be calling me about it from her office. I had to call them Again and at this point all the RED FLAGS are definitely UP It's a week out and I was told the hospital would be calling me THE DAY BEFORE to confirm everything. I said well that's crazy because no one has even freaking CONFIRMED this for me not to mention I have NO COST ESTIMATE. So I said well at this point can you please tell me what dates you have in August (because Dr. Aleman would be out all of July). I said please hold that June date for me until I figure out when your next availability is. Then the icing on the cake this morning I FINALLY get a call back from them telling me Dr. Aleman is on the other end to speak to me herself. I was relieved thinking we would finally get this all cleared up! Dr. Aleman answers and IMMEDIATELY starts REAMING me OUT (before even letting me get a word in edgewise) saying "IT'S PATIENTS LIKE YOU THAT MAKE ME WANT TO START CHARGING EVERY TIME YOU CANCEL A SURGERY DATE! I HAVE MOVED PATIENTS AND MY SCHEDULE AROUND JUST FOR YOU AND NOW YOU WANT TO CANCEL." I was literally floored/stunned. Never in my long history of working with doctors offices and scheduling (MANY) surgeries have I had SO UNprofessional of an interaction with not just a doctor's staff but the doctor HERSELF/HIMSELF! I literally started crying right there on the phone (because I have been in SO much pain and needing this surgery for years actually now). I told her I didn't appreciate her attitude and tried explaining my situation. I wasn't even trying to CANCEL this last minute I simply wanted to reschedule until I could freaking get some more communication about it!!! Her office acted like no patient ever asks for these things! Dr. Aleman blamed it on her having a "small practice" with no billing department, etc. And she suggested I try to work with another office. Well you better believe I COMPLETELY agreed with her!!! I recommend staying FAR away from this office especially if you intend to have a surgery with Dr. Aleman. My adult daughter had surgery to have a urethral stent inserted because of a kidney/bladder stone…read moreand an awful infection. She was discharged without the proper antibiotic because the lab apparently still did not get the results of the culture? Needless to say, she ended up back in the ER with bleeding and pain upon urinating. She was given another antibiotic, still consistently in pain. The stent came out on its own which was terrifying to her. She tried several times to reach the doctor but was always sent to voicemail. Finally, when she reached the staff , they reprimanded her, and said they sent multiple voicemails. She asked to speak to the Dr. directly who came to realize they were sending the voicemails to the wrong patient! She did not instruct her about not using tampons with the stent in place.

Update: lowering my score as I've seen three physicians here, felt rushed or lack of info on each visit, usually you're given up to 15 minutes with a doctor per most insurance plans but here you only get 5. It's been a consistent trend. I went hoping to get information but instead I was brushed off and given a prescription that I didn't even need. I've been coming here for over ten years on and off and it's just gotten so much worse. Dr Mobley heard my situation for less than five minutes and said "if it's not bothering you don't worry about it" and rushed off as I tried to say it was bothering me. Saw dr Jones and again less than five minutes, just wrote a prescription that I didn't even need and finally ordered some test. Then I see his nurse practitioner to go over the notes and she to time with me but she made a suggestion that previous doctors told me would be bad for me and kept going on about it even after I said it was a bad idea and I've already done it. We had to wait for more results. She was supposed to call me with the final results. Two weeks later and I got a call from someone else telling me to make a telehealth appointment. I've already seen three doctors there, paid all my bills, was told I'd receive a call with results. This place really doesn't have its ish together. I decided to look up the owners and it seems it's private equity. I really feel that the doctors are being forced to burn and churn.

If you need to talk to a nurse the crappy third party can only take a message. You better pray it's not an immediate need because these people will not get back to you for up to a week. We usually have to call again and leave a message again. The time to get to talk to a nurse takes around two weeks. If you miss the call you will not be transferred back to a nurse either. This insane process will start all over. This problem has been notated not only by us for two years with the nurses, Dr. Maloney, the office manager but also on yelp with other patients since 2014. The second problem is the portal. What a worthless, useless unreliable piece of garbage. It doesn't work. We have relayed for two years that it doesn't work. We have told the nurses, the front office staff, the office manager and Dr. Maloney to no resolution. We have been lied to by one of the many office managers who said "it's a new program and we are working the bugs out."I called the two office managers who told me this out and let them know that wasn't true because literally on yelp the same problem with the same exact statement was given to multiple patients over the course of years and I know this because it was recorded as a complaint on yelp since 2014 and even back then the old office manager back then was lying to patients. Third, Urology Austin goes through office managers like water through a faucet. I don't know why but I've overheard office staff commenting about this fact. Thirdly; Dr. Malone doesn't address root causes. He treats symptoms, doesn't answer questions, rushes through your appointment, and if you request more testing, you're ignored. He gloats that he does three surgeries a week. That seems highly excessive. Why is he not solving the problem of why certain conditions are existing to begin with? He also never remembers patients. We don't expect to have a close relationship but after two years and you're still introducing yourself as if it's the first time meeting us, then this doctor should be examined for dementia. Fourthly, front office staff. There one woman in particular. We tried the formal complaint process to no avail. She has her cell phone at the cr desk and plays music on it. Cell phones record everything regardless of whether the record button is on or not. This HIPPA violation was never addressed by the office manager. I was refused information and paperwork to file a formal HIPPA complaint. Fifth; I complained that the third party was asking medical questions. This is a HIPPA. Violation. Again, I was ignored when I requested to file a formal complaint in writing. This area is devoI'd of urologists. This company is taking advantage of this fact and not doing its sworn duty to care for the patient. This is a corporation and they treat the patient like an assembly line.

I've had other doctors in other cities, but no one came close to Dr. Kravitz's knowledge (26+ years of practice), professional demeanor, and personability. He is knowledgeable on so many topics, and I know I'm able to ask him anything. And you know what? He listens. It's that simple. He sets your chart down, he looks at you, and he listens. Some doctors are just so harried they don't take the time to really let you explain what's happening or how you feel. It really does make the difference. We forget how important it is for a doctor to relate to his patients. I've seen doctors who have been cold, indifferent, uninterested in anything except performing an examination or treating whatever was wrong at the time. Sure, that's fine, but it's the bare minimum; it doesn't set me at ease. When I'm sick, and I'm concerned, Dr. Kravitz demonstrates a level of empathy I've yet to see in another doctor. It also helps he has a sense of humor! Even if he does not accept my insurance, I would only want to have him as my primary care physician. He's known me for years, and knows my medical history better than anyone. I hope to stick with him as long as I can. If you are looking for a new doctor in the area, you will NOT be disappointed.
