Avoid Urology Austin if you value your time, your health and your money! You know there's something a little suspicious when they have you pay in advance for their services. Waited over an hour for my 3:15 appointment, which I arrived early for. The first 30 min. I waited in the main waiting area then another 30 min. in an exam room. By 4:15, still no doctor, no word, no nothing. No one even came in to communicate with me what the situation was or why it was taking so long. Went into the hallway to 2nd nurses station and asked where my doctor was. She said, "Oh, he's with another patient but you'll be next." Waited another 10 min. Still no doctor, no communication. Went back into the hallway. It was a ghost town. No one around. Promptly went to checkout desk and asked for a refund (which they provided). Admin there said, "Oh yeah, we had a procedure today. Sometimes you just have to expect things to change." You also know there's something suspicious when the staff immediately blame you instead of taking responsibility for their delay. Finally, you also know there's something suspicious when there's little to no communication when things DO change. I was a patient (very briefly) of Dr. John Williamson. Never again. Enter at your own risk. Better yet - just go somewhere else. read more

Don't trust their front office!!! Made an appointment weeks ago, filled out all my info on their patient portal, got my (Blue Cross) insurance okayed by them, then got a call an hour before my appointment saying that they had reconsidered, and now would not accept that insurance, and I would have to self-pay. An honest mistake on their part, perhaps, but it leaves me the choice of wasting a lot of money, or having wasted a lot of time before I get to see another doctor. read more

I saw Dr. Northway for initial visit and was asked to have other exams done and then return for results. I returned for my follow-up only to be told that the doctor was not in and that I would have to wait an hour before he came in. I had taken time from work and could not wait or return that day. I asked why I had not been called to be told of the doctor's schedule change and was not given an answer other than it was the front desk issue. Since it was just to go over results, I felt that I had done my part, and that the doctor should call me with the results. After all, I would have had to go back again and then co-pay...all comes to over $100. The doctor won't discuss my results over the phone and I feel like at this point I'm not going to be put out because his staff is incompetent. I will seek a second opinion based on the results. If he can't get his office in check, I can't trust him with my health care. read more

Im sure this review wont last long, as my last review was deleted after about 3 weeks. Urology Austin is the worst medical practice i have ever been involved with. I think they are shady in their billing practices as they told me my appointment was not covered by my insurance and charged me $155 for a 5 minute consultation with the doc. After I paid them they collected $350 from my insurance for the same appointment. I called them out on it and they "have begun the refund process. It has been over a month and they just told me it could be another 4 weeks for my check to arrive in the mail. I live about 5 minutes from their office! I went in for a vasectomy consultation. The receptionist said she talked to my insurance company and verified it was covered before my appt. It was not until after the appt when she told me NOTHING was covered and i had to pay for the consultation PLUS $1050 for the vasectomy. It was around $750 when I asked the receptionist over the phone when i made my appt. During the consultation the doc said it was around $800 if you dont have insurance, and then i was hit with the real price of $1050 PLUS the $155 consultation fee (No, they would not roll the consult fee into the price of the vasectomy like EVERYONE ELSE DOES.). This review is specifically for the billing department. I was seen by Dr. Floyd in January and paid my usual copay. On a follow up in July, I come to find out somehow I'm no longer covered (even though my plan didn't change) but nobody in the reception informed me so (I had even asked if I was still covered because I know there's always issues and I like making sure). And I was assured I was. Weeks later I get a bill and when I call to find out why I was charged for the full consultation the lady in the phone rudely said "Oh yeah you weren't covered and by the way you weren't supposed to since the first visit so we're going to inform your insurance to make sure you pay for that as well." No sympathy whatsoever, all these health companies just taking advantage of people during the pandemic. I even replied and told her I wouldn't had made the visit had I known I wasn't covered, but since the first visit I only paid my copay I assumed that I was. She rudely replied "well that's not our problem." Horrible customer service for billing. Y'all should be ashamed for taking it on your patients, it's not like we have money to throw away on billing and miscommunication errors that are not our fault. read more

I had nothing but a great experience here with Doctor M. Floyd. Getting examined front and back is a little embarrassing. Doctor Floyds professional demeanor was very helpful at putting me at ease. He didn't seemd rushed and answered all my questions. He even recommended my condition could also be related to my back and suggested I see an orthopedic. I did and currently have an MRI scheduled. Dr. Peter Ruff in concert with Dr. Brett Baker and the Urology Austin team saved my life, need I say more. First let me begin by thanking Dr. Brett Baker for being my initial Urologist and explaining everything so clearly and helping me feel at ease. We concluded our first and last appointment by him telling me that he will give my situation a good hard look and share and brainstorm with the other surgeons in the Urology Austin group. And this would give him more info about my situation and the best possible way to treat me. I REALLY liked the idea of him taking it and sharing it with other surgeons in his group. It made me feel as if I were getting third and fourth opinions without having to do the leg work. So, BIG kudos to the UA Group! On to Dr. Peter Ruff whom using the da Vinci robotic surgery removed my tumor from my kidney keeping it in tact and functioning as well as ever in my opinion. Dr. Ruff explained everything to me and kept me well informed of my options throughout his treatment. I never had second thoughts or wondered if there were other treatments that could better serve me. Dr. Ruff recommended using the South Austin hospital close to his office for his convenience and all though it was a little further to drive I figured that's the least I could do for a guy who was about to save my life, and I'm glad I chose to have the procedure done at South Austin hospital. The staff at South Austin Hospital was kind courteous and attentive to my needs. They were responsive when I needed help and experienced enough to give me some tips to make me feel more comfortable and make my recovery a speedy one. He rooms were spacious and private and well lit when needed but also very dark when desired. I can't thank everyone involved with my care and treatment enough for such a smooth stress free manor. Leading up to my surgery I had concerns of having things done around my home and making sure I had caretakers lined up to help out. I worried about my kids but I can honestly say I never worried about the care I was about to get or the care I had already had experienced. My recovery has been nothing short of spectacular. Three days after surgery the only medication I was taking was an antibiotic. Day five I was able to get around enough to drive short errands around town. Find another urology group. Like previous posters, I had to wait a long time ~45 mins to 1 hr every time. The nurses were idiots. The doctor seemed as if he could care less. They didn't tell me that the CT scan would have to be "read" by a third party (an extra $500). Finally, they owed me a refund of over $150 and I still haven't seen it after 5 phone calls and 2 months. Every time I raise enough hell, someone tells me that my refund is being processed and expedited but that they can't really promise when I'll get it. Never, probably. All the other medical groups I went to automatically issue refunds and I receive my money within a month. At Urology Austin, you have to call and call and call to request your money back. Haven't seen the refund yet so I can't say if they really do refund or not. read more

After seeing some really scary reviews for doctors performing vasectomies, my gynecologist recommended Dr Northway from personal experience. We had been filled with anxiety about having his vasectomy done in Austin until this recommendation. My husband went in for a consultation and scheduled his outpatient surgery. I went with him that morning and met Dr Northway. He was excellent and everything went well. There were no distractions to the doctor in the surgery room. My husband likes his doctor and would recommend him. We haven't had any issues with scheduling or waiting very long past our appointment time. He's had to call in several times and I've gone in to drop something off or pick something up several times and we haven't run in to any issues. The front desk staff has been helpful and nice each time. Overall, this has been a pleasant experience given the circumstance. read more

I had my vasectomy done by Dr. David Phillips here last year... it was only 750 dollars WITHOUT health insurance!!! It was the best 750 dollars Ive EVER spent.... he was friendly, fast, informative, and caring... the procedure was COMPLETELY PAINLESS, and healed without ANY complications or discomfort... and was found a complete success when I had my follow up lab-test. I HAVE noticed a few VERY SIGNIFICANT side effects from my surgery though which he did not warn me about...they are... I have a tendency to sleep in, take vacations, and enjoy peace and quiet around my home... wow Dr. Phillips, THANK YOU for making sure I don't have kids!!! read more

AVOID THIS PLACE. I went there for what, no doubt, many men go to see a Urologist for. I was hoping for some explanation, suggestions of testing, explanation of possible underlying causes, referral to other specialists etc. All I got was: "you have three options....these three types of meds, vacuum therapy or an implant." "Thanks and have a good day." Hell, I was keenly aware of those options already! Wasn't wanting to spend all that money and a day off work to tell me something that google could have told me in 30 seconds. As an aside, they had these ridiculous propaganda posters on the wall blasting universal health care. I don't mind opinions that differ from mine but these were really offensive in that they were full of misinformation. Basically trying to scare the living daylights out of patients---esp elderly folks, saying they were going to be left for dead in some back alley, like they do in those non-benevolent countries like Denmark and Canada. A very bad experience all around. They're just drug pushers and propagandists. read more

While the staff and doctors are nice. Customer service is very disappointing. Two times in a row now I was told that prescriptions would be called in, and each time it took them over a week and a half to actually call the prescriptions in (and i had to call them to prompt that). I needed to go away for the weekend couldn't get my meds not good. They called in a non generic prescription to my local pharmacy just before I had to catch a flight which would have been $400 verses about $50 this is a very disappointing repeating behavior on the part of the practice read more

I was told I had a kidney stone that was very large and it was obstructing the urine flow from my kidney. I went to Dr. Floyd and he set me up for surgery. I was in pain and he took care of this by giving me pain medications(Tylenol 3 with codeine)While it did not take all the pain away it took the worst part away! I was loving him at that time! The surgery went fine and I had splints put inside me for a few days! When I came back and got the stents taken out all hell broke loose!! The pain was the worst I have ever felt in 25 years....felt like my kidney was torn apart and being ripped out of my body! I asked for the meds to be extended for a few days until I could get on top of the pain! and he said NO! No more pain meds! I am sitting here right now in the worse pain of my life and there is nobody to help me! I don't know how long this pain will last and am scared it might have turned sepsis as I have had this in the past year! I guess if the pain is this bad by tonight I will go to the emergency room and see what they can do! I will never vouch for this doctor again! I will never go to this doctor again! I would NOT recommend this urology practice. It was extremely difficult to get an appointment. If you get an appt, they will leave you in the waiting room over an hour past the appt time. The first time I went, the front desk was running behind; I was early for my appt. However, when the doctor finally came in, he chastised me for being late. UHHHHH, NO. YOU'RE the one who's late, Doctor. The doctor sat at his computer and typed and never even looked at me. I had to repeat my symptoms multiple times. He ordered a CT Scan for me. But his front desk took so long (a week) getting it approved by my insurance that I had to reschedule the test twice. This is the most poorly run practice I've ever seen. After today's appt (where I sat in the waiting room for over an hour), I finally just left, went back home and promptly called another (better) urologist in the Austin area. read more

My husband had an outpatient procedure done by one of the Urology Austin doctors. Doctor showed up so late that even the staff of the day surgery were asking where he was. Doctor came in and talked to me after the procedure but NEVER spoke to my husband or the nurse who was in charge of his care! I had to fill the nurse in on what the doc said. The nurse had major problems controlling my husband's pain and tried calling the doctor's office and his cell phone. Waited a very long time for a call back - the nursing staff was getting anxious. The pain was bad enough that the nursing staff told my husband he might want to check into the hospitall next door but to do so he'd have to be transferred by ambulance ($$$$) and the doctor who did his procedure would have to admit him. Since they couldn't get a call back, that was futile. Finally, the doctor called back and said if my husband needed further care, he'd have to go to an ER and they would catherize him but this doctor would NOT admit him. I have NEVER seen such blatant disregard by a medical doctor!!! read more

I took the hubby in to see Dr. Phillips. Don't get me wrong, it was wicked funny when my husband peed himself randomly, but I felt like it was worth having a doctor take a peek (and squeeze). Making the appointment was a breeze, HGTV was playing in the waiting room, and the staff was awesome. The nurse actually told my husband that in their practice they would treat his urethra like it was their urethra. That's pretty much the greatest thing a patient can hear in a urologists office. Dr. Phillips was speedy, professional, and clear. He handled my husband's junk and my back-of-the-room cackling like a real professional. The office staff for Urology Austin is the worst i have EVER seen or experienced! Catherine the nurse for Dr.Floyd is extremely rude and unprofessional. We have called for results regarding testicular cancer and they do not return calls. Once the results were in they called my husband cancelling the f/u appt for his surgery and stated he has cancer and scheduled a ct scan which is over weeks away and that was it. who does that? What a horrible phone call! When I asked catherine why the CT would take so long to have done her response was no appts at ARA. I called myself and there were appts everyday that week! Catherine also was rude on the phone stating that we keep calling and she is confused. Needless to say they need new office staff! read more

I highly recommend Dr. Peter Ruff at Urology Austin. He performed surgery on me about a week ago. He was patient, caring, informative, reassuring and very easy to talk with during all the pre-operative sessions, the day of surgery, and the various surgery follow-up sessions. I visited Urology Austin in hopes of getting better, I would like to share my experience for whom this may concern. My first appointment with Dr. Williamson was very professional and thorough. I appreciate Dr. Williamsons time and medical advice, I saw improvement and healing with his recommendations. The staff is also amazing. They assisted with all of our needs. I was advised by the ER of Seton Kyle and by Dr. Willamson to see a urology specialist again if the pain and discomfort did not go away after finishing my antibiotics. Sure enough my pain was still present and uncomfortable. I followed up and was scheduled an appointment with Dr. Phillips July 7, 2018. This visit with Dr. Phillips was very unprofessional. Dr. Phillips seemed to be in such a hurry and didn't show any concern with the information I had to share with him. He kept making very rude comments and cutting me off as I shared concerns of my health. He also told me some of my information was wrong, but he did not know that the information I was sharing with him was with a previous Urologist. Dr. Phillips continued making comments like "what did they have to squeeze YOU in for?", I proceeded to share with Dr. Phillips that my pain and discomfort was still present so I just wanted to follow up and follow previous orders. I felt like an inconvenience to the workplace and I left remembering the sarcastic comments made by Dr. Phillips regarding my physical appearance. I understand that Doctors are here to help people get better in health with blunt honesty, Dr. Phillips's honesty was appreciated but could also have been worded without sarcasm and humor. I felt ridiculed in front of my wife as well. Dr. Phillips also apologized "if it was mean", which was not needed. If you have apologize for something like that maybe you can consider your words were not correct in the first place. I also did not receive medical advice or recommendations on how I can get better. He only prescribed me antibiotics and said that's the only thing he could do. read more
