What is your favorite Urth Caffe dish? I know I'm a minority here. This place is overhyped and expensive for no reason. Avocado toast, Greek yogurt with granola (not assembled but on side) and an almond croissant set you back! $40-$50. The ambiance was beautiful and homemade feeling of bread and its creations was there. Situated in the heart of Pasadena is worth a visit but definitely not a reoccurring experience.
Located in Playhouse Village is Urth Caffe. On a busy weekend, it is still a lovely place to be. I ordered the vegan panini, vegan pumpkin pie, and the Urth energizer. They offer gluten free bread for the panini, but was sold out for the day. The pumpkin pie crust was gluten free and delicious. The Urth energizer had beets, pineapple, and ginger. You can taste the urth, I mean earth. Customer service was lovely, even on a busy weekend. The restrooms were clean and tidy. Over the years I've grown to love restaurants with shaded outdoor seating. The noise was a little loud from the busy street and the background music also. If you're in the area it is a nice place to visit; it is also close to the Pasadena playhouse, gyms, and other health conscious restaurants. Looking for a nice place for a spot of lunch? This place is right across street from where we stayed and highly recommended by the staff. The food we ordered were all very delicious. We got half of the Urth salad, Benedict Salmone, and a piece of carrot cake. For drinks, we got a Spanish Latte and a Americano. You order from the counter then the food is delivered to the table. The restaurant is constantly busy. I understand why, so good! They do charge a 6% service fee.
If you're planning on dining in on a weekend, be prepared for a bit of a wait. Thankfully, they had two cashiers working to help move the line along. I also liked that they offer both indoor and outdoor seating options. After ordering, they give you a table number and bring the food directly to you. Amazon Smoothie: $10.99. Definitely on the pricier side, but the portion was generous and served in a tall glass filled to the top. I really enjoyed this since it tasted similar to an acai bowl without the icy texture. It was also topped with small mango bits, which was a nice touch. Sunrise Pizza: Unfortunately, this didn't live up to my expectations. The crust was pretty hard, and overall the pizza tasted a bit bland. I appreciate their focus on organic and locally sourced ingredients, and the space itself was nice, but the higher prices, long wait time, and underwhelming food would probably keep me from returning.
I absolutely love coming here. I feel lucky when the lines short. As I waited in line I browsed their loose tea and grabbed a jar of Moroccan mint. I love that you can see desserts while you wait to order. My favorite is napoleon cake. This time I ordered: Eggs verde The mushroom omelette Iced Spanish latte Coffee of the day Food is consistent and the vibes always there. Portion is huge for me and you can always get a box for to go afterward.
I hate American sandwiches but LOVE their curry chicken pita sandwich with avocado cut in half YUM! Savory sweet and the avocado adds creamyness! Spanish hot latte was very good too with half sugar. Napoleon was good and would want to try the breakfast pizza with egg and sausage next time. Felt clean and healthy after that and the avocado was generous.
Urth is a true Pasadena staple with beautiful architecture that makes for a great atmosphere. The menu is incredibly abundant and you really get your money's worth with their generous portions and fair prices. I tried the Spanish latte, which was good, though I personally think it could have been a bit stronger. For food, the Eggs Salmone is a must. It's just yummy, especially with those perfect runny yolks. While it definitely gets busy on the weekends, the line moves quickly so you aren't waiting forever. Plus having plenty of parking in the back makes the whole experience way less stressful. It's a solid go-to spot :)
First time visiting and I can see why it's so popular! They have just about every breakfast, brunch and lunch food items your heart desires! It was so hard choosing but we sat down with the Vegan Portobello Panini and Chicken Ciabatta Sandwich, both so yummy! The service was fast considering the long line, but they served the food fast. The ambiance was an absolute delight! They had PLENTY of tables throughout the restaurant. Inside, outside in their adorable patio and toward the back. It would be impossible to not get an available table. One thing too, if you have a sweet tooth this is the place! They have amazing looking muffins, cakes and shakes!
Had this cafe in my list for a long time and I was able to take my wife here on Valentines Day. We arrived around 10 AM and there was already a line outside the cafe. This cafe is a order then find a seat type cafe and to be honest, I kind of like it. We waited around 30 minutes before it was our turn to place our order. The vibe here is quite nice as well, outdoor seating is spacious and all around, while inside is a bit cramped seating wise. The ceiling is quite tall so occasionally, you'll find yourself looking up to see the decorations, quite the brunch vibe overall. Parking here is a bit non existent? You either park on the street or you find a paid parking lot, pretty standard around Pasadena. The menu here is extensive, which ironically is good in a way that the line is long...sorta. However, my wife and I already decided beforehand what we wanted to order. --WHAT WE ORDERED-- -- Prosciutto & Cheese Breakfast Panini -- ($14.95) One of their featured menu items, this panini is one of the most decorated around. The presentation is spectacular, making it a amazing dish for a perfect picture. Onto the dish itself, it's quite flavorful. Usually with panini, everything falls apart if not made well, but this one is quite steady. Each bite was delicious in its own way, and not one bite left out any flavor from the ingredients inside, very well balanced. It's filled with eggs, peppers, mozzarella cheese, and some prosciutto di parma which is Italian ham, very well made, and highly recommend. -- The Italian Omelet -- ($17.50) I'm a sucker for omelet dishes and this is no different. I find myself with another amazingly presented dish, although it's just a omelet, this one is filled with chicken basil sausages which is different from your usual taste of sausages. Combined with roasted peppers, tomatoes, fresh basil and some mozzarella cheese, it was quite the taste. You have the spikey flavor of the chicken sausages as well as the melting taste of the eggs, it was amazing. I would get this dish again the next time I visit because it was so delicious. 10/10 -- Famous Pecan Sticky Bun -- ($6.50) Well, I'd be amazed but this dessert dish is one I would call, ADDICTING. Sweet, sticky, crunchy, and texture is great. Although it's a sweet dish, it's not too overwhelming and sweet. I believe the pecan balances the taste very well to not make it entirely too sweet. A perfect sweet chewy treat after your main entrees. 9/10 Overall, a wonderful brunch spot, although it's quite busy more often then not, the vibes are great especially on a day where it's not too cold nor too hot. Service here isn't really anything special since they don't check on you for anything. It's more of a cafe where people just hangout, eat, and even see some people on their laptops here. However, staff here is quite fast as they walk around looking for number stands to provide you with your order if you decide to dine in. Definitely will be back again to try other menu items as their menu is extensively big.
Went here with a friend- she got the monkey granita with espresso but there were so many options. For people who like the banana taste, this is the one to get. I got the rising sun matcha latte which was soooo pretty and yummy. It has matcha and espresso so it's a light caffeine boost. There are a lot of places to sit, and the waiters will find you anywhere! It's a large space and the outside has lights. Although, we saw a rat running around under the tables and it came from the bushes outside which was discomforting. I didn't see it go inside, it went back into the bushes or wherever.
I feel so bummed to have to update my previous good review to a bad one since this has been one of my favorite brunch spots for many years. I ordered UberEats and it took an hour to arrive (which wasn't a big deal since it's raining). I ordered a Strawberry Matcha ($9.89) and it was the and most disappointing and expensive strawberry matcha I've ever had. There was zero matcha flavor and it literally tasted like a strawberry jam drink. Definitely don't recommend! The Huevos Rancheros Pizza ($19.29) was very dry and cold. I requested the eggs to be poached and I received a well done hard boiled egg. I've ordered this plenty of times (take-out and at the restaurant) and I've never had this happen before. The quality has definitely gone downhill and they obviously didn't follow my instructions. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in my drink and my pizza so I most likely won't return or recommend unfortunately.
WHEN: Thu @6pm A great spot to work out of because they open late and have plenty of seating inside and out. Sure there are no outlets nor wi-fi, but it's not the end of the world. The set up is that you order at the counter first, and if it's a to-go item, you wait outside in the back for them to bring it out. There's additional seating in a room in the back that looked cozy, otherwise even at night, this place is still good to sit outdoors. They have such a great selection of teas that I had no idea there is a separate menu for tea alone. With the wonderful help from the staff, here's what I got: HOT TEA (large) - GRATEFUL HEART - $4.95 A gratifying blend of South African rooibos, orange, and ginger combined with fragrant flower petals from around the world. It was so nice of the staff member to ask if I also wanted honey and lemon in it, which I did! It was such a comforting warm beverage. It did take awhile for it to come out but that's okay. I've been here a many times before back when I lived in the area. They have a great selection of desserts and beverages and hot plates if you are feeling peckish. Urth Caffe never fails whenever I come here!
We came here for a late lunch on Saturday. The place is crowded as usual. We were able to grab a table. My daughter ordered the Amazon sunshine smoothie, a chicken soup and I have the caravan kale salad. The smoothie is fine, not particularly special. The chicken soup is good. The bread is a tad hard. My kale salad is ok. Just a tad too much salad dressing and too acidic for taste. It's quite pricing at $19.50 without any protein. Urth is at a great location, strong brand, which I see why they can charge up. There are many places to explore in Pasadena.

Urth is a Pasadena staple! I came here for dinner with a friend on a weekday night. I love the homey atmosphere and the indoor and patio seating that they offer. Since our hotel is right across Urth Caffe last week, i decided to try it. They have a nice Mediterranean style cafe with lndoor and outdoor seating but during peak hours it's still not enough. I liked that they have the option of half a sandwich which also comes with a salad. I tried the Tuna sandwich and it was good. I ordered take out. The line wasn't too long and they were fast in taking orders. The only downside was the croissant i ordered was not in my take out bag, good thing my hotel is close by so i went back to the store. I also tried their Roasted Turkey Panini and it was also good. For drinks i tried their Cafe Mocha Granita and i also liked it as its not too sweet. This place is popular so lines can extend outside during peak hours. read more
A brunch staple! This place has a huge menu of breakfast, lunch, and drink items. It can be a little overwhelming trying to decide since everything on their menu sounds good. I usually opt for one of their paninis or pizzas. Decided to try their omelette panini for a late breakfast/early lunch. One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had! There was a full on omelette in this panini; egg, sausage, bell peppers, jalapeno, cheese, and crispy sourdough bread. Side salad with baby spinach, tomatoes, pecans and olives add a nice fresh touch to the meal. I went with their iced Spanish latte as well which tasted like quality espresso. I ordered it half sweet and it was the perfect level for me. Only minor downside is this place gets packed during peak hours, I think the staff tries to clean each table between guests but since it's so busy, a lot of the open tables were still a little dirty or wet (ours had whipped cream on the edge of the table and water everywhere, even the chair was a little damp). read more

We went on a Saturday morning for brunch. While the line to order food was out the door, the wait staff and order takers were very expeditious and efficient. They have beautiful displays of their desserts in the front counters. The restaurant flows through indoor and outdoor spaces, with plenty of tables and seating to accommodate customers even during busy times. We ordered the Caravan kale salad with their pomegranate vinaigrette, but their dressing just tasted like a regular balsamic vinaigrette. Otherwise, the salad was fine, but nothing spectacular. The breakfast burrito with pancetta was supposed to come with a chipotle sauce, but the condiment was mixed with a tomato sauce that should have gone to one of our other orders (prosciutto and cheese panini). When we asked for the replacement sauce, they still brought out the wrong one and we just gave up at that point. There was nothing outstanding about any of the food, but there was also nothing wrong with the dishes themselves, just very average taste. The marguerita pizza that we ordered wasn't that great. The crust was hard and the cheese tasted very processed instead of like fresh mozzarella. Not a good item to order. The tiramisu cake was very pretty, but the taste was once again, very average. Nice place for coffee. I found a seat in front of the beautful tiled fireplace. But the tomato soup was sooooooooo salty and goopy thick, and not hot...it was nearly ineatable, it was so salty...I know it's very subjective, but seriously this was like a whole salt shaker salty. I asked for French pressed coffee, but it was served instantly, so it wasn't freshly pressed. Hm, but it was strong and hot so that was good. I have been here before for a coffee but first and last time trying the food. Stick to coffee and dessert. The bread was good though, it was warm, and I enjoyed that...really nice vibe for meetups tho. read more

We have been coming here since 2018, and it mostly holds up. Good: - Healthy California cuisine (lots of fresh produce-centric dishes) - Prices are typical for Old Pasadena and a good value for the portions - LOVE the Spanish latte. Still our favorite, anywhere. (Best: small, strong, and in a ceramic mug, not in a to-go cup). - Chocolate hazelnut cake is still heavenly - Lots of outdoor seating on multiple dog-friendly patios - Gorgeous architecture featuring tiles and a small fountain - Consistently see the same staff (a sign of a stable business) - Great for people watching. The diverse mix of locals and tourists gives the place a cosmopolitan, global feel. - They don't make you feel like you need to order more food. If all you want is a pastry or tea, that's fine. - You can actually linger and enjoy yourself, your book, or your conversation as long as you want, without constant interruptions from waiters trying to turn the table. Bad: - The espresso bar can be incredibly slow (like, we've been sitting at our table for a half hour and already finished our breakfast, but our drinks still haven't arrived kind of slow). - It is difficult to follow up with staff if your item never arrives at your table. You don't want to cut in line, but it seems a bit much to get back in a twenty minute line for the register, just to find out where your food is. Fortunately, this has only happened a few times, but when it does, it feels like a scavenger hunt to find someone to help you. - Bussing is slow, and so we frequently see an entire patio section that is covered in dirty dishes. It seems like they like to wait until they can do it all at once, but this means a) fewer tables for new customers, and b) dining surrounded by other people's trash. - Even when we arrive first thing in the morning, it seems like they aren't quite tidied up. There is always still a stray napkin, a straw, bits of food, or something else laying on the tables or ground. A bit more attention to this would elevate the experience and make it feel more upscale instead of fast-casual. - Some large families let their kids run around. This adds to the feeling that it isn't a nice place. - Dozens of SWARMING BEES inside on 5/31. Not good. Neither good nor bad: - The food is straightforward and well-made with very little seasoning. - It is contemporary, but not super trendy. - Everything is made well, but few dishes are "the best" version that you'll find anywhere Whether you are a longtime local or a first time visitor, I recommend stopping by the Pasadena location for this California chain. read more

Ok ok... I usually don't do 3 stars but my experience was not good. It should have been a quick drink Togo, why is that I order from the take out side and they don't bring it over to the take out side? Like how confusing is that? The person who took our order didn't mention that it would be ready for us in the main dining next to the bar ( maybe she did, but we didn't recall) even so giving her the benefit of the doubt we were sitting down. Maybe a simple reminder that it's on the other side? Not sure if I'd come back. It does seem like a very nice place for a date, like something to eat before going to the playhouse. We came on a weekday morning around 10am and the line was pretty short. Our orders came out faster than expected. I've been to several Urth Caffe locations and their food never disappoints. The outdoor patio where we're at has a nice ambience and service was great as well. read more

Came here for brunch, my 2nd visit and quality is worth the price. I had a delicious panini chicken sandwich along with fruit. I also ordered a delicious aloha matcha I highly recommend this chill place, it sets out in the heart of Pasadena. They play nice tranquil music and they have tasty bake goods. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant in Pasadena (16, May). The cashier/server was extremely rude and disrespectful during my pickup order experience. What made the situation worse was the attitude. The employee became dismissive, stopped communicating, turned away while I was speaking, and treated me with obvious disrespect and indifference. It felt completely unprofessional and humiliating as a customer. Instead of resolving the situation professionally, the employee continued the confrontation and even followed me toward the exit, which made the experience feel intimidating and extremely uncomfortable. Situations like this damage the restaurant's reputation and push customers away. I strongly hope management reviews staff behavior and customer service standards because this level of treatment is unacceptable. read more

Came by early on a Saturday morning to catch up with family! They have lovely outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. This is an order and pay then you get your drinks & food delivered to the table, I didn't try their breakfast menu but I did try their coffee and Granny smith apple pie. I got a Spanish latte, usually I'm not a fan of hot lattes because they tend to be a little too sweet. However this one was perfect, it was sweet but it wasn't overwhelming. The Granny smith apple pie was a pretty big for one person. It was flaky with warm clumps of butter and brown sugar. It was a good choice considering they have so many options. I definitely want to come back and try more on their menu. Please keep in mind just like others have stated the service can be a little slower than usual! Just enjoy the ambiance and the people your with as you wait. read more
My fav here is the dlox toast! so much cream cheese and smoked salmon goodness Their flatbread are also very delicious, however I am not a huge fan of their drinks so I didn't get any this time. Urth Caffe is a classic staple here in Pasadena, from getting a simple catch up coffee to a whole meal this place has it all. I enjoy going to Urth Caffe every once in a while, but not too often as it is a bit pricey and parking can be difficult. Seating can also be difficult if you come in on a busy day. This location has both indoor and outdoor seating, but mostly outdoor if you have a preference. It is a little fast paced so don't be intimidated if the line is a bit long. One orders at the counter and food is brought to your table once it's ready. The food now is very good, I don't mind paying the price for food like this. We had something savory and sweet as shown in the photo so we could get the best of both worlds. I definitely recommend both the chorizo pizza & pistachio waffle if you're looking for a variety. The Spanish latte pictured is also great. This place is not just for looks but flavor is there as well. read more
Urth Caffe is my favorite place to get breakfast everytime I visit California! I've tried many things on their menu that is great, but the French Toast King is my favorite and is a must try! It gets very very busy, but it's not too hard to find seating at this location and the service is always great! read more

PARMA PANINI This is the new go-to. Gooey cheese, nicely cooked down prosciutto (Love it warm vs cold) and the balsamic give it that extra mwahhhh. Side salad is fine and cuts through the greasiness of the sandwich perfectly! read more
Stayed at the hotel next door, so it was very convenient to walk over and enjoy a smoothie and a soup with my baby, midday. The service was good, my drink and soup were good. The ambiance is old school and cute. I remember when Urth was all the rage, but I'm glad it's still around! It has stayed relatable. read more

I went back again specifically for the pumpkin chai that I loved so much last year but they were out of it. So I got an iced strawberry matcha but it was a bit of a disappointment. The strawberry was a blended mix that got added in but they didn't mix together and the matcha itself was pretty bitter. It took awhile to get our items even though it was just 2 drinks and a dessert from the counter and it was pretty empty inside. read more

First time trying Urth Caffe and it was nothing to rave home about (despite what you may think). I had their breakfast burrito which wasn't bad, but wasn't good either. Definitely could use additional sauce/spread and flavor. Coffee was good, though. And for how busy it gets there, service was pretty fast. I will say their pastries looked delicious, so I will be back to try those and see if my rating changes. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite places for a hot matcha latte! The quality of the matcha is really good. The matcha taste extra good when you dine in and sip it from the mug. The ambiance is really nice to catch up with friends or hand out. Good for small groups and most tables are for 2. The cakes here are also delicious! The tiramisu was yummy and moist! Sorry Urth.. I wanted to like u fr. But this is so bad.... You can tell what kind of restaurant a place is based on the menu. The menu is BIGG, like 100 items,, this usually means they don't put tons of effort into making one item taste good. That was the first red flag, but I gave it a shot. I got the matcha. was NOT good. The only one thing redeemable about this is the vibes in here and its really beautiful, spacious, and a fun hang out area. Matcha Latte ~$7 (0/5): Gosh I feel scammed. If a drink is going to cost 7$ at least make it not taste like sand. The matcha was bitter and not mixed in properly. Not only did this take 30 mins to come out, it wasn't even good and expensive asf. The matcha was still clumpy when it came out and was not fresh tasting. Probably the worst matcha I've tried and I'm asian so I drink a lot of matcha. Shoulda known since the menu had a bajillion items. Boba (0/5): Tried the boba from my friend and it tasted like rocks. It crumbled in my mouth and was terrible. BAD. SERVICE (0/5): I ordered after waiting quite a line at ~7pm. Line is reasonable - not complaining BUT after I ordered, they lost my order???? My order and 3 other of my friends. We had to go up and ask them but still they looked confused and reluctantly made our drink. AND IT WAS BAD. They were not too friendly, did not apologize for losing our order, and it came out terrible. Friend asked for more sugar in her matcha but it was still terrible. Ay but at least the vibes are nice. I'd come here if I wanted to chill but nothing more. I take that back. I wouldnt come here even for the vibe. They don't care about customer service too much and clearly less for the food. read more
Very cool and picturesque place in what feels like the heart of Pasadena. Parking is pretty terrible, no surprise, but at least showing up on a Sunday means I didn't have to pay for street parking. Extremely busy place, the lines are crazy long, but great service. We secured a table to sit at and was able to get flag a worker very easily to get it cleaned. The avocado pizza I ordered was pretty good as well, very satisfying to bite into. I also had a monkey granita for the drink, and I realized I forgot to take a picture of it before finishing it. I wouldn't recommend coming to this place alone, the food and drinks cost too much with a significant wait time. However, I do recommend this place to relax and chat, so bring the friends that are good company read more

Came here for a casual dinner and the place is overall cute with quick service, but the parma panini I got was super mid quality and the salad basically inedible with too much oily dressing. The Parma panini had good ingredients, when pressed, it felt like the ingredients were placed unevenly so each bite had me eating different things in the sandwich. Get something else besides the salad on the side or go somewhere else for a good sandwich in Pasadena. Maybe the pastries are a better bet. read more
beautiful location. my boyfriend & i found this on a simple google search & came fast to check it out. little confusing of an area in terms of the joint cafe. i appreciate what they were trying to do in terms of having to go orders & online orders in the smaller cafe next to the main one. only problem is, when we stated that we wanted to change the order for sit in, they couldn't because of our mix up. had to refund us because to go & dine in have two separate costs, which makes sense in terms of service. wish it was a bit easier & straight forward, but no complaints since the boyfriend was happy. def will have to try the one in orange closer to home! read more

Stopped into Urth for a late lunch, honestly it's over priced and the menu is unappetizing. It took over 16 minutes to get two coffees while sitting outside in the cold. The place is cute but a bit unkempt as the sugar holders on all the tables are in need of filling. I might just be cranky, but I really wanted to finish my Italian Cappuccino and leave. read more

I was here just to pick up some dessert after dinner and the line was insanely long. I'm not sure why because the menu doesn't really appeal to me. Seems a little Cheesecake Factory-esque?? Pasadena has some amazing eats so I wouldn't choose dinner here personally, but it was packed so I might be the weird one! Anyway, I managed to pick up a cake and a pie after about 20 minutes in line. I was pleasantly surprised because the pastry case was almost sold out at around 8PM but they still had the fancier stuff available. I got a banana crème pie and a tres leches that I initially mistook for a key lime pie. They were both really good-- the tres leches was nice and soaked at the bottom somehow despite not sitting in liquid. They were $10 each I think, but they were super sizable so worth it IMO! read more

Is this a dog friendly restaurant?
There is patio seating outside! I've bought my dog here before and they've never said anything.
Is it easy to find parking?
Parking can be sparse depending on the time you visit. But I can always find parking on the streets near by.
What are the hours of the breakfast menu?
Gee; I know they list an "All Day Brunch" on the menu, But since I live in AZ I have no clue. I would certainly give them a call or looksie online.
