This is the main post office location in Alameda, and it is a lot bigger than some other locations but the lines are super long and super slow. There is usually 3-4 people at the counter's but none of them ever seem to be ringing up or assisting people. This place takes forever! The location at NOB Hill on Blanding is really fast. read more

I came in to ship a bag so I wanted to buy a box along with it. There are only 3 person working when there are 10+ people waiting in line. When it is finally my turn the guy who serve me is super rude. If I am going to wait in line instead of using the self-serve machine then obviously I need help. The guy pretend like I know how this post office work and expect me to answer him right away of how I wanted to ship. When I ask him the options he look kinda mad and stare at me like I am stupid or something. Finally I ask him to tape it for me that is why I bought the box. Then he say I won't tape it for you unless you buy the priority shipping option. WTF! In other post offices they just tape it for me without questions! I don't mind paying the extras but this guy is just rude as hell! I won't come here anymore no matter how close I am. read more

The worst! I came here to get a passport after 2pm and was not able to be seen because the ONE guy that processes passports will only see the first 10 people after he returns from lunch. He will count off and send everyone else home. They are supposed to open at 8:40am and he didn't open the door until 9! My husband got here at 8am and was the first in line because we don't have hours to waste, but because their photocopy machine is broken we had to go to Office Max. We let the person behind us go ahead which took 10 min. Then the guy disappears for 10 MINUTES with a room full of people!!! He comes back sits on his computer and starts playing Fetty Wap. WTF?! This whole experience makes me mad at the government and politicians who make hundreds of thousands playing golf, but somehow our tax dollars can't afford to hire one extra person at the post office to process passports so there aren't at least 20 people in line at any given moment!! The people working here are the rudest and most incompetent people I've ever spoken to. I've now had multiple packages that have been marked as "delivered" when I never got them. My mailbox is locked so there is no way my stuff is getting stolen by anyone but the mail carrier. I've called twice a day every day and have gotten a different response every time. One person even told me I signed for the package so I can't do anything about it. I plan on going down there and getting a copy of this signature for a police report! I am absolutely disgusted by the "service" (if you can even call it that) that I have received. Everyone there needs to be fired, they're thieves! read more

I seem to live on a block where there is never a consistent carrier. Always someone different and the delivery times are vastly different. I wait all day for packages and then the mail is delivered in the box but no pkg and then I check the tracking and it say attempted delivery, notice left. After all day and there is no one to contact. It gets super frustrating and really sucks that Fed-Ex and UPS are using them for delivery. read more

PASSPORT APPLICANTS: Ignore the 3:30 closing time - it has actually been arbitrarily changed by the guy who runs this office. Closing time is REALLY 2 pm as that's when he takes 10 applicants who are in line at that time and he will not see another person other than those 10 pre-selected applicants. I told him that he should really have the hours changed online - he points again at his signs he printed from his inkjet - I say again "you really should update the hours on the website" and his snappy reply is "that's the State Department" - oh, genius, it's also on the damned US Postal Service website. Today I am going to review the passport office of this branch of the USPS. The guy that works in there has been there for several years and everytime that I have gone in there, he is the only one, and man, is his attitude imperial and arrogant. Today I went in at 11:30AM to see about passport renewal and he said he is "Full up" and that he fills up by 9AM. The hours posted are cryptic, shoddy and the service is patronizing. Of course, I will go to another post office to renew my passport -- I'm sure he'll be thrilled because he seems to hate his job. If it fills up at 9AM on a Saturday, POST it. Maybe try having appointments? They used to have appts so for the life of me, I can't understand why you would let 25 people stand in a hot, smelly and stuffy room. When was he going to tell the people he was full up? And where is the postmaster?? If you follow my Alamed yelps you know that service is paramount to me, so if you want great service, go somewhere else -- NOT alameda. read more

Worst post office (delivery) service ever!!! Complete joke. Someone needs to investigate which joker is running this place and fire his/her bum. Had shipped a parcel to my friend's from LA priority mail, should have arrived in three days. As of now, almost three weeks later and repeated claims to redelivery, package has not been delivered and now the post office can't even locate it when my friend tried to pick up the parcel at the post office. Reason it wasn't being redelivered was when my friend ran into her postal woman, she claimed she doesn't delivery heavy boxes (WT**)....then don't be working this job if you can't delivery a 25lb box. Fire everyone that works there. I called a bunch of times so they'd pick up the phone to answer TWO questions I had. Instead got my one questioned answered then was hung up on mid sentence. The guy that answered was rude and gave off a tone "I don't have time to answer phones, I want to finish jerking myself off" It's not the best post office in the world. Long lines, clerks are super rude and unhappy. They almost look like they want to off themselves. They are WAY too lazy to knock on my door to deliver a package. This post office absolutely sucks. I need a passport and I was waiting outside the office. To start, the website lied about the hours. They open at 9 on Saturdays and only take those with appointments, but it's impossible to make an appointment because they never answer the phone. I wait at the office right when they open and they open late. When the man finally comes out, he's rude and doesn't answer questions but blatantly ignores you... unless you have an appointment. All the reviews of the passport application process/experience are 100% accurate. I went back 4 times to get my passport, each time i was presented with a new issue, mostly the line being so long and so slow that you have to leave and come back on another day. Finally, on the 4th attempt i arrived at 7.15am [even though they don't even open until 8.40] and stood in line, there were already 3 people ahead of me. "The guy" as we all refer to him, unlocks the door but doesn't open it or say anything, so you have no idea the the door is even open until you happen to try it. Yes, this is real life and no I can't believe it either. To cut a long story short, it took 3 hours, I was out of there at 10.30am and feeling pretty great that I finally got it done. Cut to yesterday [now 3 weeks later] and I get a notice in the mail that my passport can not be processed because it wasn't submitted by " an authorized passport acceptance facility" WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!?!? When I called customer service they said "the guy" didn't submit it with the official envelope or seal and didn't even sign it, so it looks like i just mailed it off myself. I now have to go back and re-submit and if I don't go back to that facility I will have to pay the $25 processing fee again. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS. Oh, and at the end of the call the agent says to me, you better get on it, your trip is coming up soon. Really?! You think?! I better get on that for the 5th freaking time for a mistake i didn't make. Thanks for the help. I don't even know how to escalate this even further but I am going to figure it out. Plan on waiting 20min or more in line 1 staff was friendly and attempting to call for help. Of course, no one comes since they are on their scheduled break. "It's my break and my time!" "Do you need help or not? There are people in line" This was my clerk who received evil eyes from 15 people in line. Postal machine was broken outside. 1 staff person only working pick ups with a negative attitude to her peers - interestingly an unhappy place to work was the perception 1 management person working complaints - did not acknowledge the line of now 15 people as he had no solution for the poor customer service being provided. I honestly don't know why they bother even having a phone line, they will literally never answer it. The carriers also often seem to just get lazy and decide not to deliver items if it's getting late, leaving nonsensical alerts in the USPS tracking like "didn't have access to delivery site," when I live in a house that is accessed by... just walking to it, it's a house. I'm away from my alameda Ca home base, as i travel across as a volunteer national park ranger. was injured in december at a natl park in NJ. I couldnt walk /drive, my family in the Boston,MA has taken me to doctors and caring for me until I can complete therapy and be well to drive. I sent in my alameda ca p.o.box fee on time - po clerk stamped a notice that my fee is a $1.00 short and sent back my check ($53.00 fee) was returned as late.. THe post office red ink stamp is Jan 30'17 . My roommate in Alameda picks up my mail when I'm volunteering at national parks. Shame to lose my p.o.box i have had since 1996. It's difficult to get thru on the phone to a person at this post office. i realize folks have hectic jobs at our post offices, but customer service needs attention. For Passport applicants: Winniethepooh's review is great. Check it for all details for this passport office. I wanted to add that the best time to do passports is early in the morning. We arrived at 7.10am, there was one person already in line. We waited in line outside before the postoffice opened. Then, at 8.30 am, a postal employee opened the doors to the postoffice. There is one more door to the passport office - and that remained closed, and locked. We tried the door at 8.42 and it was locked. Then, by 8.55 I was getting antsy, tried the door again, and it was magically unlocked! We didn't hear anything, so it was a surprise to us all. We were the second person in line, so handed in our application at 9:10am and were done by 9.30am. The actual process was 20 minutes (the USPS employee is working on a computer that is presumably connected to State.gov or something b/c he was checking the expired passport and birth certificate) and on another computer, processing the USPS stuff - e.g., cost of envelope, shipping, etc.). My recs: arrive super early (7am is not too early), make sure you're lined up on the right door (outside door, not the one on the mall side, with the mailboxes), make copies of EVERYTHING (the USPS may not have a working photocopier), and bring checks/money orders and photo (it will make everything faster). [For reference, I've been to the Piedmont Post Office, with an appointment, and that took forever and was less pleasant than this - and this by no means was pleasant, if necessary.] read more

Went to get a passport for both my daughter and I, I brought copies of birth certificate with me but didn't realize I needed an ID. Luckily there was only one family infront of us and they were done pretty quickly but I wish I had read all of the reviews beforehand. As you arrive you see signs about not having children running around and if you can't control your children you need to step out. Just seems a bit much. Finally after getting my forms in order the man behind the counter doesn't even acknowledge that we are there, after us telling him if he could help us he just gets up and grabs our papers. First time using this PO today. Very long line but whatever. Moving along fine. The reason for 2 stars is the guy that helped me was completely unprofessional and rude. I approach the counter with my package which is not all the way taped up because i know that at post offices they will help you tape up to ship out. So I hand him my package (granted wasn't professionally looking and almost looked as if it was stuffed in the envelope but not really a big deal as you could read the To & From perfectly) And the guy SHAKES HIS HEAD as if I some how made his job harder. I would leave a 0 if I could. This is the worst post office I have ever visited. Even the staff tells me the management is incompetent. I called the office repeatedly on three different days and no one ever answers the phone. I asked to speak to a manager, in person. Even though there were, apparently, three managers on the premises; none of them would respond to being paged. I am shocked and dismayed that a business can even operate this poorly. read more

Passport office is horrible don't come here. I had three failed attempts to apply for passport at this location. The first time was my fault the second time I left because the line was so long and the third time I was the first person in line at 7 AM only to have the man let a family of six people cut the line in front of me. I ended up going to the post office by the airport I was third in line even after they opened at 9 AM and the whole process took about 10 minutes.go to the Oakland international airport post office for passport renewal. FYI The Oakland airport post office only excepts 10 applications per day but it's still way better than going to Alameda read more
