This post office needs to be investigated. I seriously believe they are stealing packages. They will lie and say they've delivered the package (via delivery confirmation) yet no package arrived or you receive it 2 weeks later after its just been sitting in their office. They would like to make you believe that maybe your neighbors are stealing your packages but you damn well know it's them. Twice they've lied as having package delivered on a holiday when USPS isn't open. The manager here (short stocky woman) is a liar. I know they are specifically stealing Amazon packages because they know Amazon is buyer friendly and will refund or re-ship. They cannot keep getting away with this. read more

Abandon hope, all ye who enter this godforsaken place on 47 Devevoise. Also abandon at least an hour of your day. It's always crowded, 90% of the time there's only 1 person working there, and the line moves very slowly. "But I'm just going to get stamps and I can use the machine," you might say. "Why are you laughing like a super villian?" I'm laughing because the stamp machine is frequently broken and very fussy about accepting dollars. There's no escape. Every time I've been in line, there are always customers who are Ironically "going postal". One time this Latina lady went right up to a window while the other 20-30 of us were waiting. This woman in line starts yelling at her for cutting. The Latina lady tries to explain why she has to cut in line but her English isn't all that happening. The lady starts cussing her out. All of a sudden, this incredibly stocky post office lady with a full moustache runs out from behind the desk. "Who's yelling at her? I told her to come to the front of the line after she finished the paperwork. You gotta problem with that?!...........That's what I thought! You gotta problem, say somethin' to me!!!" she screams. I don't know how many times I've heard customers cuss out post office workers or threaten them. There's always at least one nutjob that starts yelling about how the bad service is racially/economically motivated. If you're not wearing an Ipod, you also have to get in a long converation with one of the senior citizens in line with you about how bad it is and how it didn't use to be this way. Don't ask me why. You just do. +1 star for the old school jams they play. They usually bump James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Otis Redding, George Benson, etc. which makes for an entertaining soundtrack to the drama. read more

Unfortunately this is the post office for my partner's neighbourhood, and now that I'm becoming a Brooklyn resident I suppose this is the kind of hell that I'm getting myself into. Last week he sent me here to pick up a package that was never delivered, and I almost changed my mind about moving. Egads. First of all, there are two (or three, or four) lines for various reasons, so if you need stamps and package service and such, expect to wait in lines for the rest of your life. I swear I felt myself grow grey hairs while I was in line. Thank goodness I managed to figure out which lineup was for package pick-up, because this branch doesn't believe in clear signage. Customer service actually wasn't too bad. I gave them a post-it with the tracking number and name thinking that I would get thrown out, but they just took it and several other folks' slips. Here's the thing -- here they believe in gathering a bunch of slips, then they have the excuse of skittering off to the back of the building so they can hunt in Narnia. Inefficient and awful. I shudder at the thought of returning back to this miserable excuse of the government's idea of efficiency... read more

This place is so terrible that I considered moving just because I didn't want to receive my packages there. Funny story: I ordered a package and took the day off so that I could wait for the package. They left me a pink slip anyway even though I was home. So I tried to schedule redelivery, then I get a nice phone call the morning that it was supposed to be redelivered to inform me that they wouldn't do it and that I would have to come in. When I get there , they tell me that it's not there because it was on the truck to get redelivered. I thought I was being punished!!. I think that one of the requirements to work at this place is you have to be super trashy ghetto with the IQ of a fish. Well that's not really fair to the fish now is it? If this is your local post office, may god help you. The lines are consistently long: last time I came here, I spent an hour and a half waiting in line. Then they told me they lost my package and there was nothing I could do but go home. They called me back 4 days later to tell me they found it, so I had to go back and wait another hour in line. You get the impression that no one here actually cares about you or any else. An old man came came to pick up a package while I was there a few weeks ago. The woman at the counter told him to write his address on the screen, but his hands were too shaky to write anything. He said he was unable to write and her expert reaction was to raise her voice and say, "Sir! I'm not giving you anything unless you can write! Please step off the line for the next customer." He was pretty shocked. In the end, I helped him write what she wanted. The manager of the place uses the outdoor speakers to yell at the workers, which can be heard from blocks away. One morning I woke up to, "If you want to go on strike, go ahead! You are very replaceable. If you don't like it here, someone take your place within the day!" This place is hell. read more

Do you remember when, back in the 1990's, we'd say someone was "going postal" if they were having a fit of rage and frustration? You don't? Well you needn't go any further than 47 Debevoise, Brooklyn. Oh yeah, it would refresh your memory reeeeeaal quick. This is by far the worst post office I've ever been to. Seriously, it's worst than going to the DMV! There never seem to be enough employees to help speed the line along, and half the customers in line are just waiting with their pink slips to pick up a package that wouldn't get left at their residence. Being in this place for more than 5 minutes will drive you mad. Even I, someone known to be perpetually smiling, can be caught here with downcast eyes and a serious frown. Once in a while, on a "good" day, someone will collect all the pink slips at once and go fetch the packages to minimize the wait time. But that doesn't happen too often. Jimmy S. is right, you really do have to set aside at least an hour of your time when going to this post office. It's such a hassle. Avoid it at all costs. read more

These are the time i wish we could give 0 stars. Cuz this place deserves nothing, nothing but slaps in the faces of people who "work" there. I am an Ebay shopper, love it! But the real hunt is trying to get my package at the end. Four times in the last 8 months they have lost my package or sent it back to the seller. Whenever i check the tracking number, it says that they tried to leave it. I actually got a message saying that a delivery was attempted at 4pm, when it was 1pm the same day. I don't know if they are to lazy to come up and deliver, or if there just dumb, or if they hate me. But i can't deal anymore, i waste more time trying to get my stuff. I really would love to walk into this place and kill everyone. Because not only do they mess up orders, they question you for ordering something that wont fit in the mailbox. The speed of this doomed post office is equivalent to the turtles in the comcast commercials. Each customer spends at least 45 minutes to get anything done in this particular branch. I have no idea how this branch is ran... but they should just get rid of everyone and start fresh... starting from the person that does the hiring and managing! If I had a dollar for every time my doorbell wasn't rung, and there was no slip left... It has happened for every single delivery myself and my roommates have gotten in the four years I have lived here. Not once have I not had to trek down to the post office to get my package. Our doorbell is clearly marked, there is even a sign with an arrow pointing to it on our door just in case you can't find it. Do you even bring the packages out for delivery or attempt to deliver them? Or just pretend to? Also... My roommates and I refer to this place as "The Gates of Hell" not only is it 5000 degrees inside, it's also miserable. They let their "regulars" cut the already long lines. If you have to go here give yourself at least an hour to pick up a package, and that's if the line only has five-ten people on it. read more

Reading all of these posts have given me validation that I am NOT crazy. Getting one of those pink "Sorry we missed you!" pink slips is like the kiss of death! This tiny document of lies indicates that a delivery was attempted, sometimes even saying they tried to deliver my package on a Sunday?! BULL***. There is ALWAYS someone in my household in the daytime, 7 days a week and NEVER does that bell ring. I have fantasies about catching my mailman/woman in the act of such fabrications and screaming "SHAME ON YOU!!" as I pelt them with their own rubber bands! Redelivery service?? When it's bad, there's nothing worse. When it's not real bad, it's still pretty horrible. Some mention the staff being calm. Which is a nice way of saying, the don't give a f*#^ about you because the slower they move, they less work they have to do and the more likely people are to leave the line. Worst post office I have ever had the misfortune to be forced to have deliver my items. By deliver I mean NOT deliver. And say they are leaving notices, when there is never a notice left. Someone is always home here, they are just not doing their job. Seriously, the government needs to take a look at this one, because it is failing in an epic way. I accidentally had a package shipped to brooklyn instead of manhattan and somehow it was sent to this post office. I don't live near here or have time to go here to pick up a package. I emailed the customer service from the site I ordered from and they couldn't help me. I called USPS' customer service and they were pretty useless in helping me get the package and I even went to my local post office and they were pretty much useless. Then I called the wonderful people at this post office and they not only found my package, but they are sending it to the correct address at no extra cost. I wised up a couple of years ago, I now have all my packages delivered to my office. The current issue, is that I keep finding opened mail on the street and the missing Birthday Cards that contain Gift cards or checks. I had to make my poor grandma put a stop payment on my birthday check. I have made complaints and nothing happens.work so slow and be so I have gone to the physical location 3 times and all three times. Each time, I had to wait in line for 45 minutes. Like many others, I have had several packages in the last several months arrive weeks late or not at all. I don't have this problem with any other carriers and this hasn't happened anywhere else I've lived, but for some reason when this USPS becomes responsible for delivering my package it doesn't make it to my residence. I sign up for text alerts and packages have been marked as "delivered" but the package never arrived and no one rang our door bell even though someone was home. I submit missing mail search requests every time and so far, nothing. I don't know if they are keeping packages for themselves or delivering them to the wrong addresses but regardless of the reason this is totally unacceptable for a federal establishment to function so incompetently. read more

This is literally the worst post office on the face of the earth. Most of my mail is usually left in the common area in my complex but when I tried to order some clothes online my package was never delivered. No note was left, no notification, nothing. When I finally tracked the package after waiting a week its status was "package could not be delivered as addressed." This was the same address I used for everything, it works fine and I verified it with the sender. Finally after I decided to call the post office I discovered that they never answer the phone. All I heard was a busy tone every time I called, and I had to have called over 20 times at that point. I even called customer service and got a re-deliver order placed on the package, but it never came, this place just returned it to the sender. So lesson learned: If you live in the area, ship everything to your work or risk having it lost in this black hole of a post office forever. read more

You might die waiting here. I wish I was kidding or that it was an isolated experience, but it's not. There have been so many issues with this post office in the short time I've been here, and while waiting in line for 45 minutes I got into a conversation with a woman who has lived in BK her whole life and never had a worse experience. You will have to call many many times to get an answer, and if you're put on hold, it usually ends up in a 10-20 minute wait or being hung up on. I've had packages not delivered when I work from home and have waited for a doorbell. We posted notes on our door about how to leave with neighbors if nobody answers, and sometimes they ignore that note, too. I've had a box on a truck "out for delivery" for five days and nobody could help me find it. I've seen people cry, say this place needs to "be shut down", and walk out as soon they saw the line to pick up packages. If I have any advice, it's to not get so many packages and if you have to come here, be prepared to wait and maybe come earlier, close to when it opens. These people need help. Good luck. read more

I haven't had mail delivered to my building in over 2 weeks. Since about February 3rd. They have a policy that you can only pick up mail on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Apparently that policy includes that you can only get mail that was delivered that day and then are snidely told to come back on Saturday when you look at the two pieces of mail they hand you (when you haven't gotten mail in TWO WEEKS) and ask them where the rest of your mail is. Oh and they send it back to the sender supposedly after 10 days, Except the sender of my paycheck hasn't gotten that mail back either and it was mailed out on 2/2. I made this mistake, and after spending an hour queued in Zen meditation, found that both the exterior doors had been locked, and I could not escape. The cool, crisp air of freedom cuts through the tiny cracks in the windows. Children frolick and play in the streets outside. "Ok, don't panic, just ask nicely to be let out", I tell myself. I ask once. Twice. *Time passes* *The angry mob is displeased with their captivity* I come to realize that my usual methods of communication are not working. You cannot reason with these beasts. It was time for a change in tactic. I walk up to the woman lounging behind the counter. A short, stocky old woman with a face contorted in malice - the evil clone of some young boy's sweet grandmother, I'm sure - and demand in no uncertain terms to be let out. A lady in front of me actually bought a $10 money order. Who still uses money orders,I mean really, it is 2012 for goodness sake. Terrible. Have multiple "missing" packages which are really just sitting somewhere at this post office and no one processing them. All left the distribution center and have been "in transit" since a week ago. (This same exact thing happened weeks ago as well and were eventually delivered, but no tracking was ever updated) Useless employees who know nothing and make things up about where the packages are and give vague answers of "its delayed." Why in the world am I able to receive other packages that were ordered after these ones? Why aren't you processing these packages? I also have one package that has been going through the Usps system in Brooklyn for almost 3 weeks!! Multiple calls and claims made, no action has been taken. Absolutely ridiculous. And on top of that USPS company itself is useless in figuring anything out too. It's the holiday season, it comes every year. Why have they not figured out how to manage everything yet? Oh and currently they have their phone off the hook so you can't call them. You wouldn't be getting so many phone calls if you figured out where all of these packages are because obviously it's not just mine! Stop sending me generic apologetic emails and figure it out. Outside of the holiday season, still issues. they never separate our mail and it's incredibly annoying. They also have issues with redelivery requests and I need to submit multiple ones to get them delivered. Never have I ever had such issues with a post office and delivery. This post office has terrible service. Lately, the mail in my three-unit apartment building is being slid under the building's front door...and we're receiving mail from addresses that are not even from our street. USPS is supposed to deliver our mail inside our mailboxes NOT just slide mail under the door where anyone who walks in can just grab other people's mail. Apparently, the letter carrier(s) lately are too lazy to open the USPS lockbox out front to open the building's door and resident's mailboxes to properly deliver the mail. As for service at the post office, itself, it is always super slow because they don't put enough people working the service windows. Meanwhile, they have a bunch of workers just walking around, getting paid to just kill time instead of helping by providing customers' proper and timely service. This post office is in desperate for new/better management. read more
