I just do not get it...I went in on the 28th of November (the day after Thanksgiving) to purchase my Christmas postage stamps. USPS offers (at least on-line) between 6 and 8 different Christmas/Holiday stamp varieties. I stand in line for several minutes to make my choice of stamps. They had ONE (1) choice...the worst choice (in my opinion) of all the stamps offered. I asked when they would be getting the other choices in. The response was "well, I am not sure, maybe in a couple of weeks." I said "are you kidding me?" He said "yeah, I think in a couple of weeks!" He seemed to have no idea and just said something to shut me up. Unbelievable... It is no wonder the Post Office is struggling.... And, by the way, the exact same thing happened last year! read more

OK, I will agree with other reviewers that the facility is neat & clean and that there is ample parking.... BUT, those things are only positive if you don't have to actually DEAL with any of the employees! I have a box at this location and DREAD having to collect an over-size package or actually mail something via a postal-worker. I would gladly avoid the activity by using the self-service machines... IF THEY EVER FUNCTIONED! Alas, I have had to wait in the 15-person-deep line only to be UN-greeted by any of the miserable folks on the other side of the counter on way too many occasions... oh, and during the holidays - FORGET IT!! read more

I have never experienced anything quite as rude as I did today. While waiting in line to ship a package, one of the postal workers engaged in an entire conversation with a patron about her daughter buying a new home, keeping her granddaughter back a year in school and her preschooler who was diagnosed with ASD. Honestly, the entire line did not need to hear any of it, especially while we were patiently waiting our turn. They had concluded their postal business prior to the conversation. Our common post office box was vandalized Thursday on Dartington in Bressi Ranch. Only the leave mail box was affected but the instructions left were to go to this post office to pick up mail. I've gone twice and been met with shoulder shrugs as two people told me all the mail had been sent out and wasn't at the post office for pick up. I haven't had mail or access to my mail since Thursday last week. It's Tuesday the 23 and I'm going back to this post office for the third time to get my mail. If the Post Office can put a hold for vacation mail, why haven't they put a hold on our mail so we could pick it up during the holiday season. I bought a collectable vinyl record and the dumbass who was covering for my normal mail carrier Jammed the thing into my normal mail slot versus the parcel box and bent the hell out of the thing. There were only 400 of these made and I actually got 1..... but now it's bent to hell and has no collector value.... I went to complain and they told me I should have bought insurance. ..... damn worthless government agency.... I love my normal carrier though. read more

Twice in a week I've gone to this office, spoken with different clerks, and it has been horrible every time. The clerks lied to my face about the shipping rate for two boxes of books, rung up an even more expensive rate than they quoted, and then tried to refuse to rerun the ticket for the actual rate. With customer service like this, is it any wonder the USPS is going out of business? Brought in a brown box with books inside and was told Priority Mail only ($15+) and no media mail ($4). I checked the weight and dimensions online before going in to make sure it was allowed and they still refused to acknowledge the media mail option. Ended up driving 20 minutes away to another post office with clerks that knew how to do a decent job and had no problems at all with sending it media mail. read more

My post office experience was as good as it gets. Coming from Chicago where the USPS employees are truly apathetic I didn't have too high expectations when it came to opening up a mailbox. I had done this in Chicago and it was a trying experiece. My service here was excellent. The lady behind the counter couldn't have been more helpful. I am in the process of buying a new house so I had a temporary address here and only a P O Box in Chicago but she did not give me a hard time about it . In Chicago they wouldn't have bothered.working with me. The most amazing thing was that she looked at the location of several mailboxes before giving me one. Why - because I am a short 5' 2" and would have had a hard time reaching mail in the top row boxes. Yes there was a bit of a line but for most of the time that I was there they had all of the stations staffed. Some customers had quite a number of things to mail and so they were longer at the window. It doesn't seem fair to blame the staff for long lines if the customers have a lengthy transactions . If all of my experiences are like this I will be a very happy camper read more

The post office is like the DMV to me.... Typically unhelpful and frustrating! However I must say this post office changed my opinion and gave me a renewed faith in the USPS. After 5 messages left and 7 days of calling the 1800# to schedule an apparent for a passport I decided to walk in to try to schedule an appointment. I was greeted by a very nice man who immediately helped me. The passport processor had other appointments but was happy to fit us in. I was in and out if there in under 30 minutes. Amazed. Shocked. Like I've done SO often, I dropped of my property tax payment, this time as soon as I got my bill. But this time it was all different, and a total dark nightmare. Things must have changed since I worked for the post office - possibly them or the tax collector's office since they had reason to benefit. By I time I found out my stamped envelope and payment vanished, I incurred a $1,000 late fee. It's true what people know about California all across the country - it's a greedy and heartless bunch of government officials, workers, and businesses. But don't get me started. Reminds me of the DMV clerk just yesterday! She made it more than clear that she could NOT lower a car late fee, but then we got talking and THEN she DID even though I was the opposite gender (& same race)! I got lucky. There is always a wait regardless of date and time. I can get past that, but my real complaint is that they never have a decent selection of stamps. I'm always driving to multiple locations to find the stamps I am looking for. I went in today (November) looking for the holiday stamps that are advertised online and in mailers. They had an assortment of three religious and three non-religious, but no Menorah stamp as advertised. The woman helping me didn't even know what I was talking about even though a picture of the stamp was right on her counter. I get it might not be a popular stamp in this neighborhood, but it would be helpful for each location to have at least a limited amount. read more

I had the package all screwed up and she was very patient and showed me what I did wrong and now I know exactly what to do from here on out. Our mail man is incredible rude and fits the sterotype of the lazy federal government worker. Multiple time he will not get out of his stupid little truck to deliver the mail and sends it back to the office as undeliverable. I have rendered more than one compalint about this. I was told by the Post master that ever if some utility or worker truck is blocking his access to "hand feed" in to the sidewalk cluster of mailboxes, that he is to get out and walk around the truck and put it in the mail box. I have no control who parks in front of the mailboxes. This has resulted in critical mail not being delivered, bill that aren't delivered and therefore have a late charge. This guy needs to be disciplines for his rude obnoxious behavior that has been going on for five years now. Signed, a very unhappy postal customer. read more

So I decided to move back to Hawaii and only had 3 weeks to prepare. Sending my stuff through USPS Parcel Post seemed to be the cheapest option compared to FedEx, UPS, or Airline cargo. It comes out to be a little over a dollar per pound for large packages. After I packed my first box, I went to drop it off at the Encinitas location because it's the closest to me. The box was really freaken heavy. What was I thinking?!? I had to have several different strangers (men) help me lift the thing since they make you put your packages up on the high counters to be weighed. Anyway, it weighed more than the 70 lbs. weight limit. The lady at the counter kept on reprimanding me for it and said that the scale was going crazy. I told her I would unpack some stuff there. Everyone at the post office was staring at me and talking mad shit, including the employees. I was so embarrassed! When I finally got it down to 60 lbs. I walked out in shame and vowed never to go back there ever again. The La Costa location happened to be the 2nd closest to me. It's much smaller than the Encinitas location, and a little older looking. I brought my second box here, this time under the 70 lbs. weight limit. The line was long, but it moved MUCH faster than the line at the Encinitas location. The employees were so much friendlier and more helpful than the employees at Encinitas. The lady at the counter took my heavy box without saying anything negative to me so I decided to go back with the other 4 boxes (6 total). I came back in 2 more trips 2 days later. The lady at the counter recognized me and asked me if I was moving. She was nice enough to help me grab the box instead of watching me suffer from behind the counter. During my last trip, the guy behind the counter also recognized me and held my place at the front of the counter while I retrieved my other box in the car. He was very helpful, friendly and even introduced himself to me. I got an old school, small town vibe from this post office where everyone knows everyone and is friendly to each other. Post office employees are generally not very nice since people will use their services regardless of how they treat their customers. But, I gave this post office 5-stars because the employees go out of their way to treat their customers well. read more

I've been trying to call this post office for the last hour, but I have continuously gotten a busy signal. I didn't even know busy signals still existed! I was calling because a package I shipped last week arrived with the wrong contents. I had handed the box to an USPS employee because it didn't fit in the mailbox. When the recipient received it, it had clearly been opened and the contents removed. Nice job USPS. I'll be sure to trust you with all my important shipments after this. read more

This is why I am only giving 1 star is for 2 reasons. like some of the other reviewers every time I go there it is a slow boat to China type line. This indicates poor management. But the #1 reason is because everytime we put our mail on hold, which is about 4 times per year requesting that our accumulating mail be delivered, it never is. This time, I noticed that we have a new mail delivery person and had high hopes. nope! UPDATE! 5/3/10 so, I never received my mail, as usual. I go up to the post office, wait in a loooong line only to be told that my mail was actually being delivered to my home that very day. Okay, better late than never right? WRONG! I still have not recieved my accumulated mail, spent lots of time back & forth with a supervisor who is NO help at all. In desperation, just got off the phone with Consumer Affairs.... grrrrrrrrrrrrrr The problem is, I don't have a choice because of my address this is my designated post office! read more

I have lived in my neighborhood for 16+ years now and have used this 92011 post office location the entire time I've lived here. I have gotten to know numerous employees at this branch and there have been some excellent people working there over the years. But I have to say that the 92011 branch has gone downhill in the past two years. I've had packages lost with no explanation when the carrier forgot to scan in the final delivery confirmation. I was never compensated or offered an explanation for the lost packages. When I demanded an explanation and showed the manager the print out of the package transit history, he ran away from me and hid in his office... like a coward. The staff has also become careless about emptying the secure package bins after hours when many of us have to drop off packages that are pre-stamped. The bin locks when it fills up and people like myself who ship large quantities of packages are unable to drop off our packages and forced to make a return trip to the branch. This is a huge inconvenience for busy people like myself. And I alwwys hear people working in the back when I come by after hours that could easily empty the bins when they fill up. Please get your act together and get some new leadership over there! read more

This is by far the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. The employees were not helpful nor even kind. This isn't my normal post office, but it's the closest one to where I work, so if needed, I can run there on my lunch break. I would recommend at all costs, if you are sending anything of importance, to go out of your way and visit another post office. I came here twice - the first day was to weigh my wedding invitations, after doing so I asked the gentleman assisting me if they were able to hand process my invitations - he said yes, when they had the correct postage. The second time I come back, the same man and another women were helping me. When I informed them that I needed my invitations hand processed, they laughed, and said no. I was confused because early in the week the man told me they can do that, and he did it with two of my invitations that were going overseas during my prior visit. I remained calm, but informed them that I would pay to have them hand processed if I needed to - they both said no, and if I wanted them to, that I would have to come back later. Eventually, the gentleman told me that I could stamp them myself - he then handed me the ink pad and stamp and stood in front of me doing absolutely nothing as I went through each invitation and stamped them. read more

She was very friendly, very helpful, very efficient, and even gave us her cell in case something went wrong. This has got to be the absolute WORST post office I have ever been to! It seems that no matter which day of the week I go OR what time of day there is always a long line. Of course we all know long lines are typical of post offices BUT for some reason, their line always moves super slow. Oh one more thing, do NOT ever put your mail on hold here. Have a friend pick it up for you. I agree with the other poster....I pick my accumulated vacation mail up at the post office & each time the wait is like 15 min. or more while they search. AVOID THIS PLACE! Go to the PO in Encinitas, it is 1000 times better and only 5 minutes away. Also, if possible avoid moving into the area where your mail would be delivered by postal workers from here. They are in "conjunction" with Fed Ex and the workers do not leave notes if you are not home to receive a package. I requested 2-Day shipping from Amazon, this post worker attempted delivery to my apartment, where they could have placed it in a locker and left the key in my box or left it at my door like they usually do. But instead, they just kept it. I patiently waited for the package to arrive because I ordered it on a holiday weekend and found out on Saturday afternoon that it was at my local PO since Wednesday! I often receive very little mail on Saturdays because they are plain lazy. read more

Several months ago I contacted Deandrea at this post office to try and correct a problem I had with my mail not being delivered. I thought she had taken care of the problem but it persisted. Now I am to the point where I cannot even get a driver's license delivered to my home. When I called last week to see if the problem could be solved she told me I would have to fix it myself since it was a forwarding problem that occurred when the previous owner who has a similar name filed a change of address. Excuse me? The post office can't deliver my mail so I need to track down the old owner and get them to file a new change of address? My name is not identical to the old owner so the PO should be able to fix the problem. I asked to speak to her supervisor. She said she was "a supervisor". Apparently everyone who works there is a supervisor. I finally got another supervisor to help and he said he would contact the old owner. But when I contacted the old owner myself he had not heard from the PO and he has been trying but does not no how to fix the problem. In the meantime I have had my mail held to see if that will do anything. I have had to go all electronic paperless billing with every service that I have at my home since I can't get mail delivered to my house. This post office is an embarrassment to our country at this point. My hope is that they will actually fix the problem in the next few weeks because otherwise I will be without a drivers license. Hopefully my faith in the USPS will be restored. read more

They don't even deserve one star absolute horrific treatment! I lived in this area for 10 years and I have never received such despicable treatment. Mistake after mistake. God I just wanted them to forward me my mail that I had a change of address on file twice but no... They make another mistake and send it back to the sender. Took them two months to send it back and now just tell me. Also one lady I can't remember her name was too upset I had a hold mail for vacation while I was selling my house and she wouldn't even give me my mail . I asked her very nicely and I told her I drove all the way up here it would be nice just to check but nope then I asked if I could call later and she said:"don't bother us with that" ! . Then I get a call from the manager telling me all my mail was accumulating at the post office and at least the usps that I called had the decency to file a complaint for me she said "that's not right you can't pick who gives you your mail I am filling a complaint" .
