I used to make a special trip to use this Post Office because the 1 in my neighborhood has rude employees. But now, not so sure?! First, there was only 1 clerk helping customers! Plus there was a staff member just clearing up her station instead of serving customers! Second, another employee from the back decided to say good morning and "chit chat" so all work is stopped! Lastly, which "takes the cake", my clerk was very nice and friendly but when the survey came up with the "smiling faces", she immediately press the Smiling Face!! Hmm, isnt that for me to answer? When do you rate yourself? I was surprised and walked out of there bothered! I would have given you the Smiling faces cause i believe and do all surveys, but you stole it from me! Service mostly with a smile, and staff are very efficient. Lines move quickly, too! Service items are along the left wall as you enter, and the line is parallel to that; there are usually two or more postal clerks serving customers. When the post office is closed, you can still drop pre labeled/stamped packages and check mailboxes. This is in the foyer upon entry to the service center, before the automatic glass doors. Snail mail... That's what my bestie always say and it kinda stuck with me lol but mailing a package is never easier with some of the selected post office and this Kahala location is one of them. Located just outside and behind Kahala Mall this post office has been around for decades though its modern features keeps it a favorite place of mine to mail my packages...obviously using the kiosk is a must during off hours and whether it's USPS Priority boxes or your own you can mail anything using the kiosk which also prints the labels for you so all you need is the information for its destination. Place the printed sticker and you're all set it's super easy and no lines making it the best deal in time savings ever...keep your besties close is easy with the services of our USPS. The haole guy at the Kahala Post Office who was working the counter for my package simply walked off and never came back. It was 1:27 pm so I think he just decided to take his break without saying a word to me so I waited 15 minutes and realized he wasn't returning to do his job!!! All the supervisors told me is I didn't have to stand at the back of the line and they would talk to him which I doubt they did. read more

Mailing an Easter gift to the mainland from Honolulu, Hawaii... I found an appropriate gift for my God daughter in Virginia and needed to mail it. Several post offices in the downtown area were closed on a Saturday and some don't have free parking. I remembered the Kahala location of the US Postal Service and drove there. There were several empty stalls and a short line of customers inside. I tried the self-service kiosk, but my package was an unusual shape. I stood in line for a few minutes and in no time, I was done! I think my gift will arrive in time for Easter! Thank goodness for the Kahala Post Office and its efficient, competent staff! I appreciate the air conditioning, free Flat Rate Boxes, and clean environment! I'll be back! read more

How many of you folks send out gifts during the holidays???? Yes, da Christmas season is upon us, and a lot of times we use the US Postal Service to get our packages to our loved ones & friends all over the world. Normally, I try to avoid long lines because lines just suck! Lol! I normally do the "click & ship", or use the kiosk at the post office, but recently while trying to do the "click & ship" thing, the website was not working right so I was unable to do my thing. The 2nd best option is to use the kiosk, but again.........the kiosk wasn't working right either, so my last option was to wait in the long line with the other folks - like cattle. (Insert sad Panda Face here) On the bright side, coming to the Kahala Post Office was great! I must say that the workers at the Kahala location were pretty efficient, and very courteous! Although I had to wait in the long line, the line did move swiftly, and when I finally got to the counter, the postal clerk thanked me for my patience, which I in turn told them that the wait wasn't too bad, as I commended them for their very swift service. I guess not all Post Offices are bad, and if you do have to mail out something for a loved one, or friend, may I suggest you check out the Post Office at Kahala, as this post office is connected to the Kahala Mall shopping center. read more

This concerns daily mail delivery from the Waialae-Kahala Post Office. WHY AREN'T PACKAGES, PARTICULARLY CHRISTMAS AND HOLIDAY PACKAGES, BEING DELIVERED TO THE USPS PARCEL LOCKERS IN THE LOBBY OF OUR CONDO BUILDING? This has been a problem ever since the reliable, mail carrier retired three or more years ago. I asked the current mail carrier why packages were being left in a nonsecure space near the condo office and not delivered to the lockers in the lobby. He said it's easier for him! Seriously? I visited the Kahala post office and asked the postmistress (?) why the lockers were no longer being used. She went in the back to ask the same mail carrier and returned to say "It's always been done this way." No-oh, it hasn't. Fast forward, condo office finally said they would no longer be responsible for package deliveries. Begs the question, when the mail carrier leaves US Mail with the condo rent-a-cops, who's responsible for loss or theft? More USPS lockers were added to the lobby. BUT THE LOCKERS ARE NOT BEING USED. Instead mid-December, I get a USPS notice in the mailbox that package delivery was attempted but I was not home. A. I was home. I'm retired and always home. Shopping takes place after dark. B. Why do I have to be home when there are lockers in the lobby to put packages in? No other details were included in the notice. No sender zip code. Neither First nor Final Notice boxes were checked. Looked like a perfunctory note that was left in the mailbox because it was easier than actually delivering the package. I signed the delivery instructions, asking why the package wasn't put in a locker, and left it in the mailbox for the mail carrier. That was three business days ago. Still no package. Birthday has come and gone. I am advanced in age, need a cane to walk, and cannot stand in post office Christmas lines without a lot of pain and discomfort. Picking up the package at the post office is an undue burden when it should have been delivered to the lobby lockers at my home address in the first place. My friend tells me it was a standard Priority Mail box, not oversized or extra large. A receipt signature was not required. My friend paid USPS Priority Mail rate to have birthday and Christmas gifts delivered to my home. The USPS notice was left in the mailbox in time for the birthday, when the package should have been left instead. Now it's too late. The Priority Mail service my friend paid for was not provided. And I'm out gifts for the foreseeable future. Package may be returned to the sender. Will probably suffer further retaliation, lost mail, etc. TIP: There are several Yelp complaints about missing mail, etc., in other Honolulu post offices. FYI, as a veteran military officer and retired GS-13, I am aware that most Federal agencies have an Office of the Inspector General (OIG) whose mission is to independently investigate fraud, waste and abuse within that agency, including employee malfeasance. So does the US Postal Service. The US Post Service OIG has an online complaint form at "uspsoig dot gov." Or you can snail mail them. I am also aware that the farther an office is located away from Washington DC, the less oversight and attention it receives. We're at the end of the line in the wild, wild west out here. Don't know how often the USPS OIG conducts onsite inspections, but such inspections were regularly scheduled in the military. Maybe it's time to call attention to problems with local post offices? I've had other problems with Kahala post office counter personnel, but they pale in comparison to being denied mail delivery service. They were better, and nicer, in the 1980s. read more

Fact: Since the introduction of the internet, email, smart phones and texting, I hardly mail things and therefore, rarely go to the post office. I had some documents to mail out so I initially drove to the post office on Koko Head Ave but couldn't find street parking. I circled around and after 2 failed attempts, I went on my Yelp app and it led me to this Waialae-Kahala location. To my delight, there were dedicated parking stalls for the post office and I pulled into an empty stall. As I entered the post office, there were a handful of people but they didn't seem ready in what service they were going to send their mail. I eavesdropped on a mother-daughter conversation where they were debating which fixed rate envelope to send some documents. Because they weren't ready I bypassed them and walked towards the front of the line. In front of me had a Japanese couple with an oversized box. One of the windows became available but for some odd reason, the couple let me go first because they weren't ready. In addition to mailing some envelopes I also needed to pick up several books of stamps. I was prepared to walk away with the standard American flag forever stamps but was pleasantly surprised when the staff let me choose between some special ones (Mexican food and frogs) that were available. I paid for my purchase and she gladly took my mail that I was planning to put in the mailbox. Overall, a very unexpected pleasant experience at this location. In the past, I would usually go to the one nearest my home, which is the North King Street location that is near popular eateries of Au's Garden and Han Yang. Many times the service at this location is non-existent and at times walk away disgusted with poor service and attitude from the staff working there. With such a great first impression, I'll be sure to make a note to come here instead. read more

No point in paying for 1-2 day priority express when service is not guaranteed. After paying for a 2 day express service and mail not arriving in time. Did some research (thought they lost my package, which happened before!!!) and found this on their website "For Priority Mail Express Items Addressed to or from Alaska and Hawaii: As of August 1, 2023, USPS will no longer process refund requests for guaranteed service on these items. Young male counter mail person at this Kahala PO was very rude. He must have been having a bad day but hasn't learned to leave that and move on. He kept that snarl on his face the whole time. He accused me of behavior that I would never dream of - I'm assuming he was reflecting his own behavior on whomever was in front of him at that time. And that was me! During the Holiday season, "EVERYWHERE" is crazy busy and packed with peeps all over the place. I came to mail out boxes twice this week (12/19 & 12/21) at this location. Both times, the parking lot was FULL, but the wait for a stall was just a couple minutes. I credit this to both, (1) having a fair amount of stalls but mainly to the (2) services provided by the staff inside. These postal workers are very efficient and gets the line moving at a good pace. While still being very friendly and courteous. Both days I had the pleasure of being serviced by Candace. She is extremely nice and takes the time to help you at a person-to-person level instead of just getting thru the line and hurrying you along. This location is not the nearest for me, but I would highly recommend for anyone sending things out to use this facility. read more

First and foremost, all the folks that work at this location have demonstrated a lot of Aloha and that's what bumps up my rating to two stars. This review is more an testament to my lack of satisfaction for the USPS responsibility to making good on when insurance is purchased. I sent a collectible to an eBay buyer and insured it for the value of the purchase. I bought the box from USPS and I wrapped the item in 5 layers of bubble wrap. The postal worker stamped FRAGILE on the box at my request. The box goes from Hawaii to Pennsylvania and the buyer is not happy as the box is smashed and the collectible broken. I file the claim online with USPS and uploaded photos the buyer proved. In a couple weeks I get a letter from USPS asking to inspect the box, packaging and collectible. The buyer is already upset and I'm not going to further infuriate him by asking him to take time out from his schedule to either send everything back to me AND PAY FOR THAT or visit his post office to have them do an inspection with a copy of the USPS letter. In this case, the insurance was worthless and I couldn't even get a refund on the insurance. The Supervisor at this location did all he could to get me a refund on the insurance and I'm grateful for his efforts. I understand there's bureaucracy in any government agency and he can only do so much. USPS is a great value versus FEDEX and DHL, but this review is more a cautionary tale to what you can expect when you purchase the USPS insurance. read more

Fun fact! Did you know the United States Postal Service, one of the handful of government agencies that is explicitly authorized by the United States Constitution? Did ya also know, it an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government responsible for providing postal service in the U-S-of-A. Basically, they keep the country up and running! This location is nestled right outside of Kahala Mall, near Kilauea and Pahoa. Parking is relatively easy and usually pretty open with a dedicated lot that features a super convenient secure drive-up drop off boxes for letters and parcels. Once in the lobby, you'll be greeted by self service kiosk and any required forms you may need for their services (think certified mail, return receipts, international customs forms etc.) and also limited PO boxes, which I believe you an inquiry within for availability. Yesterday, January 5, 2021, Dwayne helped me with certified mail and return receipt forms and graciously allowed me to fill them out at the unoccupied window (with covid they open every other window). Once finished with the forms, he let me slide before the line to help me with my parcel. To note, I had to return today to mail something else with via the USPS priority express and return receipt, on this visit however, he had me pick up the forms in the lobby and told me to fill them out there. Not sure what the difference in service was, but I appreciate the Dwayne and the other postal workers nonetheless. There was another postal worker, a mid 20's, early 30's female, who just seemed tired of rulebreakers and arguing customers and had a slightly sour attitude, but I have to say, after a rough holiday season coupled with covid, anyone working in customer service is bound to be tired. Few other notes during covid; masks are absolutely necessary, and protect their staff and customer with plexiglass and plastic sheets (not sure how often they clean them, if any), pens for use by customers are at your own risk, as I did not see them sanitizing between each use and they do their best to enforce social distancing but sometimes customers disregards signs and common sense. read more

This location is located behind McDonalds and Subway. Parking is very limited but I usually get a spot. The staff are very knowledgeable with which forms need to be complete, the price of the package, and sometimes provide the cheaper route with the package. I usually go to the Kalihi-Dillingham because it's the closest to my house, but during the weekdays, I go to this location - it's closer to my work. I noticed that when there is a line, you don't wait in it too long. I usually come after work and drop off the package. Thank you for the great service! read more

I seem to come here often. Sometimes the lines may be long and sometimes you might not find parking in their parking lot. If so, you can either park on the street or if you don't mind walking a little you can park at Kahala Mall ( hey a little walking wont hurt you ). With all the people they see and have to deal with, no wonder the term going postal comes up here and there. I can't imagine how they keep their composure. I for one, would use the machine out in the lobby which is fast unless you are standing behind someone who can't understand how to use one then you might have to assist them to speed things along. The building is very clean, and offers tons of P.O. Boxes, shipping supplies, and other miscellaneous stuff. I'll do more business with these people, and cant thank them enough. Three free tips from me to the post office which might help them survive in these days when people send e-cards instead of the good old pen and paper. (1) Make all stamps alcohol flavored. Rum, vodka, red wine and beer. (2) Hire girls that vaguely resemble Mila Kunis or guys that look like Ashton Kutcher (3) Have a dedicated yellow card guy to get your package so you don't have to wait in line. read more

I don't appreciate being hung up on when all I'm trying to do is find out what package I missed. I understand I don't know what the tracking number is. But don't hang up on someone when they are still talking and just want to make sure the next time it's delivered a "we missed you" slip is left so I have some idea what it is. To clarify why this phone call took place. A package was being delivered, I heard all the usual beeping and a knock at the door at 7:00am and by the time I put pants on and answered the door he was already gone and no slip left behind. This is my favorite post office. I usually go to the king street location, by sushi king or the ala Moana location, but the Kahala post office will always hold a special part of my heart. The people working here are always friendly, this is the only post office where I've found unusual non-flat rate boxes, and it's so convenient! I ship pretty frequently to the mainland and I don't use flat rate boxes. The non flat rate boxes usually come in one size box and one size envelope, but this kahala location has long boxes sometimes. I totally understand I could just order some for free, but when I'm in a rush, it's nice to know that they usually have these weird boxes. Also, another great thing about this location is that you can always access the package drop bin. The king street location locks its sliding door during off hours, so unless you know the code, you can't get in to drop off packages. Not at kahala!! The sliding door is always open! I will admit that the parking lot can get hectic and that the line is sometimes very long, but I think the people working here are really nice and the parking usually turns over quickly. I try to avoid this location during peak mail times the day taxes are due and holidays because there is only one lane going through the parking lot and it can get backed up. Otherwise, come here for your postage needs!! And hopefully soon, a bite to eat next door where McDonalds used to be. read more

The Waialae Kahala United States Post Office has been a mainstay as long I can remember. It is a fixture at Kahala Mall for at least 25 to 30 years. It is one of the regional post office locations in the Kaimuki Kahala area. I usually come to this post office location mainly because it has a automatic post office kiosk, since you can do almost any mailing of packages and buy stamps, and even paying for your Post Office Box renewals here. Only thing you can't process shipping for is international packages. At least, I don't think so. But, domestic packages you certainly can do, along with certified mail and purchasing stamps for your daily needs. Even the post office does get busy during the day, but thankful you can do your post office stuff at night too. They have a drop box for your packages if you do it at night, as well as a mailbox drop off outside, if you drive through. Only thing about the post office though, they open from 8:30am to 4:00pm during the work week, so any package pick ups would have to be through their pick up window starting at 7am or you can wait for the post office to open up and get your packages out. My experience here at the post office was often good. It is what it is, just needed to mail some stuff over the years and the United States Postal Service took care of me. For the most part though, I usually pick the United States Postal Service to send packages and mail because it is the cheapest early. Comparatively, you may get comparable service with FedEx and UPS, but the United States Postal Service has been around for a while and they usually do good work. Although with stamps prices going up, it is a pretty good deal to send a letter anywhere in the world for less than a dollar. The overall experience here at the United States Postal Service each time I come here over the years has been good, positive, casual and very much a place where I can just send stuff to friends and whoever at a reasonable price. My experience here at the post office is often quick and easy, especially when you're using the kiosk and it only takes one of the less than five minutes to process the postage necessary to mail out your letter or package. Same with the sales counter from 8:30am to 4:00pm, but it can get hella busy most days. It can get crazy during the holiday season, I'm sure. Best bet would be to mail stuff out early or at night, so you can do this stuff at your own convenience. The Waialae Kahala United States Postal service location is physically standing at 4354 Pahoa Avenue, connected to Kahala Mall complex in the Kahala area. They accept major credit and debit cards for the automated kiosk. They also accept major credit cards at the sales counter as well as cash there too. Like many post office locations, they have their own parking lot for customer use. They have about 15 parking spaces readily available, but you can park in Kahala Mall and walk over if there is none. If you are like me, public transportation can be your best buddy. Routes 1, 1L, 14, 22, 23, and 24 come through the Kahala Mall area. Only route 24 and 14 east bound stops right in front of the United States Post Office, while there are a handful of bus stops around the Kahala Mall area. Just get off at one of these bus stops and walk on over to get whatever Post Office errands you may have at any particular day need done. And done right. The United States Postal service has a variety of Post Office services that does not include shipping stuff and postage needs. They include but not limited to: US Passport acceptance, P.O. Box management, and they also sell packing supplies. They even have free envelopes and priority mail / express mail boxes to take and use. Assuming that you will return to mail something out and spend money on postage and fees. For the most part though, it's always a treat to have the post office here in the neighborhood. The post office at the Koko Head Avenue location does not have the automated kiosk to mail stuff after hours, so the nearest one is here in the Kaimuki Kahala area. Definitely would recommend coming here if you need to mail out something or get your own P.O. Box, or get that first US Passport to travel. The post office is awesome, yo. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Definitely nice to have stuff sent inexpensively via the United States Postal service. Had the worse experience here today. Customer at the counter was a lil irritating but the postal worker helping her was worse and very rude. First he told the lady they don't take travelers checks, then he said they do then he said can't and told the lady you gotta buy more books of stamps to use your travelers check and he kept pestering " you gotta buy more stamps to use your travelers check" meanwhile the lines is growing longer and longer out the door. The lady was irritated cz she had already written the check out to them and can't use it anymore if they don't expect it. Man it was so frustrating watching this. My one gripe was the 24 hour self ship parcel drop chute. It will not take packages that are 24 inches in length however thin, my package would fit in there diagonally and then it got stuck in the closed position. No one else would have been able to use the chute and I didn't want to leave my precious package like that. There seems to be no workers to help during closed hours although I have heard that some postal stations work 24/7, so ringing that bell was futile. The drop chute also do not seem able to take large flat rate boxes either. Oh, and after some forced banging, my package finally dropped. I had another package of same size that I will bring in later when they are open. read more

The post office and it's workers get a bad rap from our culture but I want to let you know that the staff at this post office go above and beyond for their customers. I'd been waiting on some baby milk from the Netherlands (HiPP brand) and was out of baby milk which I use to supplement breast milk, so I was anxiously checking the tracking number every day. When I saw this morning that the baby milk arrived I called my local Post Office (Pahoa Ave. branch) and they said I'd have to wait until 3:00PM for the mail to be delivered to my area. I told them I had a baby waiting on the milk and the very kind supervisor said they'd get the mail carrier over to my house quickly. It arrived 3 minutes later! Although this post office is always fairly busy, they always have 2-3 employees at the front desk. That, along with their ability to keep the line moving quickly, is what keeps me coming back here over the Kaimuki location (which is actually closer to home for me). I also like that Kahala USPS has their own parking lot & a drive-thru drop box. I stopped in on Monday with a few boxes to send off for Christmas & even though they were CRAZY busy & I'm sure the staff was exhausted, they were all friendly & helpful. I do appreciate the professional workers here and they are all the men (Filipino guy, Japanese guy and Asian taller young man) and 1 happy and smiley Hawaiian/Filipino/local strong woman who are all very efficient and gracious and enjoy helping people and actually act grateful to have a job. But there is one very thin, lanky, 20-30something, young local Portuguese lady with long hair and bleached at the ends, who needs an attitude makeover and training on not cursing while a customer is present. She acted as though an elderly man should have memorized the multiple ways a citizen can mail a parcel to the mainland and rolled her eyes at him. She was impatient, irritated and condescending to customers who seem like easy prey. She is a bully and really needs to just work in the back. But when it was crowded on Monday afternoon, she would gather the prepaid boxes from first counter and some of the cashiers and literally flicked and flinched them as I a boomerang as she entered the back room door. I thought wow she must be a good athlete that she can do that upon entering the back room but then she was bending down to pick up missed items. Appalling because I have sent handmade crafts and jewelry, ceramics and pricey items that were fragile. Please fix this scene or just move her to the airport to work away from customers. Or maybe she can work UPS driver to scrap with some boxes in the vans when no one looking. She has so much negative energy and we just don't need that at this time. Or just invest time in retraining these types to just be nice. read more
