For a post office so small in a town so same, one would expect shorter lines and better service! Almost every time I stop by to mail something or buy stamps, there's a line at least three deep, with one person at the counter -- and multiple people either working elsewhere within eyeshot or about to go on break. The Window Closed sign comes and goes like the tides. (Only more frequently, as the tides are predictable and relatively far apart. Plus, they publish them in the newspaper!) That said, since the grumpy and slow male postal clerk seems to have moved on, the women working the counter are hella better. Everyone seems to know what they're doing, and they've got the full array of stamps, including the July 2006 Super Hero series. Go just for that. Today while I was on my walk in the village of Irvington, I stopped and took a rest on a bench, a letter carrier walked by and she dropped her satchel on the bench next to me and continued walking up the hill to deliver the mail. I can't imagine that's acceptable on any level to leave your USPS issued uniform bag on a park bench and walk away, I must be out of my mind for thinking this is normal right? Since it wasn't my responsibility to watch her bag, I left it on the bench and continued my walk up the hill. I should've taken a picture of her but I didn't, but I can describe her. She seemed to be a part time temporary employee as she didn't have an official uniform on, but she was definitely delivering the mail. read more

I went in there today with my two children, 6 & 9, who I had pulled out of school to renew their passports. When I got there, the woman behind the counter asked, "Where's mom?" I explained that she was deceased. With the kids right there, she said, "You have the death certificate?" I didn't and asked why I would need it. She replied, "She is on the birth certificate right? Of course she is, she gave birth to them." I was kind of taken aback that she would talk about the kids recently dead mom in front of them in such a callous way. But, I explained that I live close by and could go back and get the certificate. I asked if I did and if no one was here, would I still be able to submit the paperwork. Again, I had pulled both kids from school to do this today. She said 'No, make a new appointment.' I asked, "even if no one is here, you won't help us today?" She said "No, make a new appointment." I won't be back to the Irvington Post Office. And to the woman who was behind the counter today, I hope when you are confronted with a similar situation in your life, the person talks to you (and potentially your children) with more empathy. read more

Why does this one have to be the closest post office to me????? Just terrible. Staff are rude and inconsiderate.

Terrible all around. Lots of part time employees that do not care about your mail. We just moved here and they already "lost" one of our packages - they marked it as "delivered to the mailbox," but it was nowhere to be found. I am going to the post office today to talk to a supervisor. In general, having moved here from Brooklyn, I can say that the postal employees here are careless and rude based on the interactions I have had so far. Service and wait time are very inconsistant. Some of the people working the front desk are very pleasent and helpful and others tend to move at a glacial pace. The hours of service are not as long as the locations in neighboring Dobbs or Tarrytown, but the lines tend to be much longer in Irvington. I echo the other reviewers about finding myself in long lines with only one attendant working, though others could easily step up (but don't). Problem is I've never been able to find a time when the post office is consistantly less crowded. Seems to be related to phases of the moon, but I have found no rhythm in the ebb and flow. As a result, I only go here when I have to and tend to save other shipping and mailing for when I am going to another village. read more

I don't go here too often since I don't tape trade anymore. But I've never had any trouble with them the times I did go. If you have to mail a package, try to go in the early afternoon, it'll be completely empty for the most part. Your mileage may vary on this place. read more

I have been going the last few Saturdays and there is one attendant who is just miserable. I walk out of there feeling like the lowest thing on earth every time. Today I asked her for the tape. I wanted to fixate both return and going addresses to the package. I think tape is given out in most post offices. In fact, don't they put it out on the table for general use? So she did give me her tape. While I was taping she said to me, if I am to use anymore, I will have to pay for it. I can purchase a roll sold on the shelf. I mean is she right? She was probably being nasty for no reason. It's every time with her.... the feeling that I would like to be attended to by someone else. Oh and she charged me $7.25 today to send a catalog to the next town? It was similar to the size of a one subject notebook. That charge can't be right but how can she be wrong? I would like to though, give her the benefit of the doubt about the charge. There is another woman on Saturday who is really pleasant. Well, I guess the solution is for me to wait for the other woman! It's just a shame that this is the way I have to solve the problem. A few years ago, this location was not the best. However, the employees who now work at the post office are friendly, accommodating, and much quicker than past employees. My mail and packages are almost always delivered without delay, although as of recently, an on-time arrival can often occur late in the day. However, if you do not want to wait for your package to be delivered (as a package can often sit at this post office for an extra day or two), a quick call to the post office and you are usually allowed to pick up your package directly from them. This is the WORST post office around! Every time I go in there, the line is at least 3 deep, only one person "working" behind the counter and several people milling around in the back. I have many many times had packages that stated "out for delivery" on USPS.com but have taken two more days to reach me. When I call to inquire they always tell me that the site is wrong. Really?? The site is wrong ALL of the time? I doubt it. The people in this post office are comprised of a few out of towners bt most locals. One would think that they would be a bit friendlier. No chance. I usually go to Tarrytown for my shipments where I know my packages are being handled properly. Irvington P.O. had a box with the wrong address sitting on their shelf for 2 years. I finally asked about it and asked couldn't they try to find the correct address. The woman there told me that wasn't their job to do that. Good Grief!
