The worst experience I've ever had at a United States post office first off. I came in first thing in the morning and they had just about no mailing equipment when I proceeded to ask if they had any envelopes in the back, the woman started screaming at me. How can a United States post office in New York City not be stocked in the morning and treat their customers in such terrible manner. Quite possibly the worse location I've ever been to in my life. You have the "manager" tramble running from my 15lb, well behaved, service animal and shouting about her. I waited for 20min in line for the woman at window 6 to leave her desk bc I have a service animal, then a woman at window 4 to sent me as well then I was sent to window 10 where there's clearly a sign that says no dogs and then window 11 where the Asian woman shouted "I don't usually take dogs idc if they're service animals just hurry up. You were in line a long time why aren't you ready." So disrespectful and I had a huge box I was going back and forth with from window to window and for government employees they should know the law is service animals are allowed. They act as if my dog is going to jump over the enclosed desk, break the window and attack them. Totally unacceptable behavior. First of all my dog is hypoallergenic and even if she weren't they would have no interaction with her being at an enclosed desk with a literal window between us. They all need to be retrained bc this despicable behavior and discrimination against a person with a disability. In other words this is a lawsuit and I've never experienced such treatment from the usps. read more

It's like entering a Time Machine in Lennox Hill. The inside isn't the cleanest and the trash was overflowing. Note - bring your own pen because the used TD pen they taped to the desk coulda used some help. Despite the long line, there was thankfully more than one person working and the attendant was efficient. Overall, not the cleanest or modern but gets the job done. Rare to find any decent post offices in the city. No restrooms. read more

U. S. Post Office (Lenox Hill 217 East 70th Street) Yes I have been into this post office! It's not a favorite. I got in trouble for trying to take photos inside. This last visit I took my photos outside. I didn't feel like having a hassle. It's a huge building and I like the architecture. It's wheelchair accessible and that's a necessity in this neighborhood. There's always a lot of activity and I don't enjoy the wait time. If you live or work nearby make sure you get there when they first open! Three Stars because if I had their job I'd probably be pissed off all the time too. And because everyone has a bad day now and then. read more

The best location I've ever been to in the city. Heck also outside of the city too. One of the tellers (in the middle) has a cute little flag on the window that says HAVE A NICE DAY! And it always just makes me smile. Even if I'm waiting in the super long line. Another thing - they always make sure to acknowledge the customer. Whether it's "how are you today" or "thank you for being patient in line". The STAFF makes this location awesome! read more

I had a delivery that was mistakenly sent to this post office instead of Brooklyn. The package was marked returned to sender-- while the vendor wasn't very cooperative in helping me solve the issue, the guy here was. I explained the scenario and he took down my tracking number and searched their internal system about whether the package was in his building or a different one. He was able to locate it, and communicate with his fellow colleague who brought the package down. I appreciated the wonderful customer service that I received here. read more

And there are plenty of automated machines if you don't want to wait in line. Decent inventory of Priority and Express Mail boxes. There's also a nice selection of greeting cards for purchase which came in handy for Mother's Day. Polite postal workers. Things feel organized here. I really like how spacious, clean, well lit, (relatively) well stocked, and business focused this U.S. P.O. is. Plus the architecture is pretty awesome. It might not be immediately clear which line to go in for which thing. But if you take a second to stop and look around, they have signs (albeit sometimes handwritten) directing you, and the dude I presume to be the floor manager keeps a proactively SHARP eye out for anyone that needs help and anything that needs to be redirected. I can 1000% understand why there are a healthy amount of people making not grand customer service comments. To me it read more as "a tone thing", which I didn't mind because none of the four employees I either worked with or observed were being rude. Every one of them was trying to be of assistance for whatever they were handling right there, plus trying to make sure a customer or fellow employee had the information they needed to help with something else (either a customer's next visit or addressing some back end process which needed to be managed so they didn't repeat a current issue). Sounds like they're running a business to me. Does floor manager dude come off a bit sergeant like? Yes, SIR! When at the window, did I feel like I was having an Auntie ask me why in the world I did something this way when I clearly should have done it the proper way? Absolutely. But did they get my rent check where it needed to go on time, give me information which would be useful next time I popped in, and leave me smiling/giggling as I left their well-oiled machine? You betcha! At the very least, pop in to check out the space and architecture if you're passing by. And who knows? You might just mosey up to the counter to have an up close and personal look see for yourself. read more

It has been one month now since I stopped receiving mail. I have missed multiple paychecks, holiday cards, now important end of the year tax paperwork that has my SSN on it. My mail carrier apparently got robbed on multiple occasions on E. 78th, 79th and 80th St. The police at the 19th precinct, the federal postal police and my building's management have no record of these thefts. This is all very suspicious and the little mail that has been rerouted is "return to sender" even though the address on the envelope is correct. What is going on with USPS mail deliveries on the UES? Is my postal carrier getting robbed or throwing my mail in the East River? read more

Only good thing about this location is that it's usually open past 5pm. I just waited an hour in line to mail a box to my friend overseas for Christmas and was told I didn't fill out the form correctly even though I've mailed things overseas NUMEROUS times and know what I'm doing. They did not try to ask for help from another employee and sent me back home with my package I mailed without any help! Staff here is not educated when it comes to mailing anything outside of the US and it is incredibly unfair to our military personnel overseas that they make this nearly impossible to do. Maybe try another location if you're trying to ship internationally? Went two times to get info regarding a certified letter return receipt and was told to come back a third time. First time told had to see a supervisor that wasn't in that day and didn't know his schedule and when he would be in again , second time spoke to a supervisor that was nasty and washing his hands of my problem and should not have a job in a service business and just not nice! And was told their system was down and couldn't track my package. Was told that maybe my lost letter was one of the 2-3 letters out of 3 million eaten by their machine . I never thought I'd give a post office five stars, but here I am. After decades of dreading having to mail packages here, I'm happy to report that this location finally has its act together. The line is always short and moves quickly. There are a couple of electronic kiosks for basic mailing tasks (domestic letters & packages, and international letters) that are quick and easy to use. For mailing packages internationally, I've found the counter staff knowledgeable and courteous. They explain the cheapest way to ship your item, help you fill out the customs forms, and never roll their eyes when you ask a question that could've been googled. It took 26 years for me to actually have consistently good experiences at a NYC post office -- but this is the real deal, y'all. It's honestly night-and-day compared to the nightmarish post office experience on W 140th St, where there's always a line and everyone is miserable, just like the E 70th St branch of my childhood. read more

Pack your patience! People seem to hit the automatic "bad mood" button as soon as they enter this place. If you are going to pick up a package, there is a smaller line to the right which takes FOEVA with this one lady... Sorry to say but just sit tight. The poor guy in front of me told me he waited for 2.5 hours early on a sat morning to pick up his package. Do not go in this line to buy stamps, you will wait 1/2 the time in the regular line. The regular line that is always long is quicker no matter what. As for the automated machines- you can't buy the custom stamps, you are never really sure which kind of box to get and sometimes the machine is broken! I'm usually trying to hunt down the nice workers who are high in demand since this place is a mad house. Please-usps- let's find a way to make this process easier on everyone including you! The employees at this location are extremely , unpleasant, impolite and not helpful ( with the exception of one). Two months ago, I was trying to sell a Swarovski Crystal off of eBay and they lost my package, all to tell me that a package isn't declared lost until after 40 days. not to mention, that while I was in the process of being bounced around between different usps locations because this location Had lost my package , the person at the counter was EXTREMELY rude to me. She was Dismissive and cut me off as I was trying to express how important that package was to me. low and behold yesterday , I had another incident with this same employee. I asked her if I could print a shipping label at this store and she very rudely told me that they did not--that I have to print it on my own. I don't have an issue doing so, but the way she told me was curt and beyond rude. I do not like dealing with this location and truly expected better from a USPS store in this neighborhood. The worst post office I have ever dealt with. I've been to some great post offices, but this certainly isn't one. Don't even bother setting up package pickups because they'll never pick them up - they'll just drop off everything else and ignore your package pickup. I've contacted customer service several times and have yet to have the issue resolved. I contacted them weeks ago and haven't gotten a response back. Can't wait to move so I can get a better office. Do your jobs! Edit to add: this is basically hopeless. USPS has not responded to me in over a month since I contacted them. I would give zero stars if I could, I went there earlier and at the time I arrived one of their trucks was pulling out of the driveway so I quickly ran behind it to get to the post office as it was nearing closing. Apparently that was the wrong thing to do because after I had mailed what I was there for, the driver was waiting for me, no mask on, and proceeded to scream at me "do you like life???" and to not go behind his truck. My important mail is regularly ripped open in the top right corner when it comes from financial institutions or cards clearly from family/friends (things that are clearly important or personal that may contain money or information pertaining to money/account info). I would almost think it was a coincidence if it happened on junk mail but only seems to happen on statements, checks, or hand-written cards on holidays etc. I am reporting this as this has happened around 20 times in the past 18 months and consistently on important mail rather than junk. If you are planning to mail a Priority or Express package, make sure to BYOT (Bring Your Own Tape). I learned the hard way that the post office (or is it just this location?) no longer provides Priority or Express masking tape to seal the box. Considering that a Medium Flat Rate Priority package costs over $12 to mail, that's outrageous! In my situation, the post office was closing and I didn't have time to run out, buy tape and return. So I had to come back another day, taped package in hand. read more

Normally I like this post office a lot. The tellers are usually friendly and helpful but today I had a real lemon. Today a Ms Joans was shockingly rude. I did not have my glasses and could not read the numbers and asked if she could tell me what the 4 numbers on the screen were to which she replied-you read the other one you can read this one too?? I said "Wow can't you please just help me"? To which she abruptly canceled out my transaction and told me to go to another window. Stopped in the middle of the day, and there were a lot of people, but there were also five windows open, so we moved quickly. The lines - too crowded (couldn't navigate a stroller through easily) and the temperature was far too warm in here (I wonder how much they'd save by turning down the heat!). In September 2022, I paid this post office over $600 to send my mail to Florida on a priority Rush basis. So far I have not received the last two boxes of mail and they were very important things in there like my CIGNA ID card and some 1099s. Every time I call the post office, they send me to the operator who never picks up the phone and it goes immediately from dialing to the off position. Everytime I'm here, not only do I receive an attitude but something goes wrong. I have now filed a mailing address change and mail hold 3 times this past month. They have no record of me submitting it twice, even though it was handed to an employee at the window and the manager assisted in answering questions. Today, when I went to pick up my mail they informed me that they would charge me for not having my key, even though the box has been closed since the 1st of july. If they were to properly file the paperwork that I submitted three times, I wouldn't have to come to the counter to get my mail it would be delivered to the proper address. I like the historic look to this office. You can tell it was really something back in the day when mail was the thing to do. I came around 4pm and there was barely a line. That was nice. I came to pick up a package, and a guy pulled me out of the line and got me the package quickly. Make sure to bring an ID! The location could not be any more convenient for me and for this they get one star. My packages always reach me, or the intended destination, so they get another star for getting the job done. And sadly the stars stop here. There is always chaos upon entering. There is usually only one or two windows open with about 15 people waiting on line. I like to beat the lines and occasionally come early when they open, but even then there is no escape. The attitude and lack of customer service is truly shocking. And I always seem to see a pattern with the children in strollers at this post office, they always seem to be crying. I waited a solid HOUR ir in line to pick up a package. Once I was only 3 people from the front, a man came up to me and asked for my package slip. I gave it to him, assuming he was getting just my package. He THEN announced he'd take ALL slips from people in line to pick up packages. So I basically lost my place in line, while he brought out ALL packages in ONE batch, for every person in the 40 person line. So that meant waiting 30 more minutes, all the while he was letting a woman interrupt him with questions about something (she didn't speak English, so the conversation wasn't getting communicated). So why have a line if someone at the back of it gets their packages first, after I waited an hour? Very rude people behind the counter also. In addition, I don't get my packages delivered correctly. They buzz my apmt, I buzz them in (so they know I'm home), and then leave a "we missed you" slip. They do this to not have to climb up the stairs. Well maybe DON'T be a postal carrier if you aren't interested in walking? I've complained at the post office and their online complaint system and gotten no reply to this. If there was any other way to send pacakges, this would be completely out of business, instead of just hanging by a hang nail. read more

I work around the area so this postal service is convenient this is the ONLY reason why I still come to this location.. I would give this place 00000 stars but because of the 2 guys that usually help me they get these miraculous 2 stars from me, so thank you guys that are working on the floor #ThumbsUp TIP.. please try at any cost to avoid the window!!!!...
