Like most post offices, this one is poorly run and inefficient. Pros 1) lots of free priority mail boxes 2) self serve kiosks are usually empty, there are 3 of them, 1 outside main room and 2 inside Cons 1) terrible for package pickup. Sometimes I have had luck going around to the back, but even if there's only 1 person in front of you it takes forever 2) terrible at delivering boxes, they ring the buzzer and bolt. I work fr home and only get my packages delivered 70% of the time which is insane. Sometimes they get buzzed in and just leave packages in the lobby for you to haul up to your apartment 3) terrible at delivering mail. My mailbox is always empty at least one day a week and then extra full the next day. Magazine delivery is hit or miss, I often get mail for someone else in my building or another building entirely. 4) line at the main windows is hopeless, doesn't matter how many or few, it always takes 5x longer than necessary. 5) no internet support and impossible to get on the phone. Only option is to go yourself Knowing all the cons, I usually give myself a ton of time when I have to go here and treat myself to a pedicure after I'm done. Avoid if possible! read more

"Eek! Methinks not" is too mild. This is my first 1 Star Yelp review (and my 41st Yelp review since I joined in August). I review mainly places I love--4 or 5 stars--but this is simply unacceptable for a post office in the city where people are vastly more efficient than anywhere else in America. I am in NYC nearly 3 months a year but do not have mail key for the apartment I stay. So I had my V2 smokeless cigarettes (which I started in August and adore) sent to apartment of my friend and neighbor a floor below. First, they did not leave a note as they claimed. I finally got hold of the UWS station on Columbus and 66th or so and they told me that I would find the package at the FDR station (about which I have heard good things though the lines were long on 10/15 for IRS reasons). I went to the info window at FDR and the nice woman informed me my package was at Lenox Hill. I called for DAYS. No answer. If they can't afford to hire someone to answer the phone, then at least they could hire someone to answer voicemail messages (if one could get to a VM). The package went back to Florida and then finally came to CA. Others dislike this post office but I waned to add my voice to the chorus of condemnation. I will be getting a P.O. Box at the 54th and 3rd station in December. (I talked to a friend who works in the city and lives in Sunnyside and he says this station is notoriously bad, particularly with packages.) read more

This post office is closest to my job, so logically it should be the most convenient. Sadly, I've had so many bad experiences here that I only go if I need to buy stamps at this point. Once, one of the postal workers gave me the wrong change, and threw accusations at me when I asked for the correct change back (she said I gave her a 5 when I gave her a 20). They told me to call back the next day, and sure enough, her drawer was 15 dollars over. Thankfully the manager working that morning was friendly and apologized, but while the same woman was there she didn't so much as make eye contact with me, let alone apologize. I've given up on purchasing tracking on anything at this post office, each time I do I've gotten a friendly email from USPS saying they couldn't track my shipment, although the recipient ultimately received it a few days later. Not sure if it's faulty equipment or indifferent employees, but I'm not going to spend extra money if I can't utilize the tracking anyway. I get that the USPS is floudering as a whole and I do enjoy sending cards and doing my part to keep them afloat, just not at this location. read more

This post office is the poster child for civil servant attitude/ineptitude. The workers are hostile, incompetent and, above all, SLOW... My family suffered through a nightmarish two hours at the hands of a certain woman named Z MEI (or "The Scourge of the Upper East Side" - photograph below) when trying to submit our paperwork for renewal of two of my daughters' passports. My wife and I have used various post offices to renew our passports and our girls' numerous times through the years. The drill is simply that they collect the required paperwork. It took us 5 minutes in the crowded Rockefeller Center branch a couple years back. Instead, this lady was acting as if she were the last line of defense for Homeland Security. She actually questioned the couple in front of us as to why their 10-month old baby didn't have an email address! When I spoke to her and explained that she simply needed to move faster as the line was growing, she answered "Read the form, it's supposed to take 90 minutes per person." No only is this completely made up, it's patently absurd. The proof was certainly in the pudding as when another passport window finally opened up, the person at that window processed three people that were in line behind us in less time that it took us with her. And, I must add, we showed up with every piece of paper required. I note that this experience is not limited to the passport renewal service. Lines here generally move much slower than any post office I have experienced before, and certainly much slower than the Cherokee branch at 79th/York, and that place is pretty subpar as well. Yesterday, my wife dropped off a package that we had pre-labeled with postage. She asked the lady to make sure everything was in order. The woman indicated it was. 8 hours later, the package was back at our building marked "insufficient postage". The laziness is without parallel. The branch should simply be shuttered. read more

I really enjoyed the customer service and overall service I received at this USPS location. When I walked in, there were 10 lanes open servicing customers and there was a worker at a quick checkout booth available to answer all questions and assist with purchases and domestic shipping needs. I stood in line for maybe 5-8 minutes before being helped and I was in and out in maybe 10 minutes! I will always use this location for my postal service needs. read more

Abhorrent service. Not that any post office deserves a high rating during this day and age, but the Lenox Hill South Post Office is the worst Post Office I have ever dealt with. I was traveling a month ago and paid the USPS for 'premium forwarding service'. A service that costs $15 to enroll and $17 for each week you are enrolled in the service. With premium forwarding; the customer's mail is supposed to be bundled up and shipped by priority mail to the forwarding address. I will stop there. First, never utilize PFS. When I began to realize I was not receiving my weekly mail bundle I called the USPS's customer care line only to be completely surprised when the representative told me there was nothing customer service could do to assist me and I must dispute the charges with my bank if I had an issue with the service.. WHAT?! Dispute it with my bank?! No way of assisting me?! Disputing the charges with a bank is a lengthy and stressful process to be told there was no recourse other than that when I was paying weekly for this service was absurd. While this was going on, the USPS was still delivering my parcels and mail to my OLD address... not the one I paid to have it forwarded to! After several calls (over 15) to customer service, I was finally given the local post office's number (Lenox Hill South). It took over 4 days of calling and after numerous unsuccessful attempts I came to the conclusion that either this location had NO PHONE or any extremely unprofessional and lazy staff. The situation became such a headache that I ended up disputing the charges with my bank. I had to contact the shippers of all the parcels I was waiting on and track them down, many were never found! I also started an 'investigation' with another department within the USPS only to find out it operated just like the Lenox Hill South location. No responses back, no follow-ups, nothing....! After weeks of being charged $17.00, I canceled the service without ever receiving one piece of my mail or one parcel that was to be delivered to me. I never heard anything from anyone at the USPS about this. This is the type of service that is making the USPS bankrupt and causing customers to choose other shipping options for their needs. This should never have occurred and when it did it should have been immediately remedied. DO NOT ever use Premium Forwarding Service and if possible stay far way from the USPS or at least this particular location! read more

So i go to this post office a lot! I always send my returns and my orders so i can get the receipt and update people of the orders faster. This women clerk #30 Mrs Jones could not help me with one question. I asked what happens to packages that are not Usps and dropped off here, she explained we don't take packages from other carriers. I said i know but say i accidentally dropped a UPS package in the bin over there, her replay it sits there and stays there. I said omg well i dropped a package off the other day and i got confused how would i get my package back. Her reply was short and simple, " I don't have time for this go ask someone else". At the point i was just thinking how funny it was to be Greeted so early in the morning. This lady needs Proper training and to know everything that should be known about the post office packages in cases like this. Nobody should be treated like this at all. I used to come here often when I was living on the East Side. Sometimes the lines were long but they seemed to move quicker at this location than other Post Offices I've been to. You could have walked near it hundreds of times and not even noticed that it was there - middle of random Street, not on the Avenue. read more

I was a little apprehensive about coming here because of all of the negative reviews. However, this was the closest branch and I didn't want to walk an extra ten blocks, so I braved it. I needed to mail a certified letter and was able to do in less than five minutes. The lady who helped me was capable, friendly, and efficient. Was visiting the Lenox hill postal station a life changing event? No. Was I able to do what I needed to do painlessly? Yes. Not really sure what else I'm looking for in a postal station. read more

This place has probably been here 474375 years. There are 974 windows and only 2-4 are open at any given time. Lines are longest on Saturday and after 5 on weekdays. The service is nice and sometimes employees will grab you from the line to get you out if you're doing something small. I've never been that lucky, so I wait... And wait. The hours are great also, so that helps. read more

I actually find most of the workers here to be really nice and helpful. In general, I have very pleasant experiences here. There's only one person who I really thought was totally rude and inefficient, she was holding up people trying to argue with one lady who seemed to want passport photos taken. At one point she said snidely that she was the authority here and then less than a minute later, reversed and said she wasn't sure about the same thing. After listening to them argue for 10 minutes with no end in sight, I tried to get her to direct me to the prepaid package line (since noone else seemed to be working the lobby) and she rudely waved me off. She was short and on the curvier side and Asian - avoid her if you can. read more

Spacious post office with generally friendly staff and medium wait times. Self service area is to the right when you walk in for pre-paid packages. There are stamp vending machines as well. Be sure to have packages prepared ahead of time as supplies such as packing tape will not be provided and must be purchased at a marked-up price. read more

They told him he could come in every day 2 hours late! I wish I could leave zero stars. These people are the rudest, laziest idiots I have ever come across. If they are not mean to you for something THEY did wrong, they make every excuse possible for the drivers that somehow leave notices for you and an availability date and then don't deliver it to the post office itself. It's like some sick game. I also do not understand how they leave notices for me and others I know in the area and then mis-route packages to a different (crosstown?!!?) place... The lines are always long. There are never enough windows open and I hate everyone who works there. I am not a negative person I have just had it with this location and have seen COUNTLESS problems and abuse of other customers when I am there. It's sooooooooo, soooooo frustrating! read more

This post office branch could never successfully deliver my certified mail to my landlord , whose office is within its' postal area. Time and again , I had to personally proceed to this PO branch to find out what was happening to my certified mailings , for which I was paying a premium . Every time I was shown a stack of other people's certified mail similarly undelivered to the same landlord office , WTF ? I was told that every time delivery was attempted , notice was left at the business office and that the mailings remained unclaimed at the PO branch. Obviously this is a problem BC these are my rent payments , but also because the landlord's office is a staffed business office with daily coverage. I complained to supervisors and managers at this PO branch and was discourteously dismissed. I complained to postal inspectors for them to investigate this PO branch. Nothing. I finally realized that when the same postal worker covers a route , they develop a modus vivendi with certain delivery route destinations (get my drift) . I now send my landlord rent via priority express mail , costing me an arm and a leg , but at least the damn thing gets there with a tracking # verification. Don't do any transactions at this PO branch , as they are negligent , shady and rude. If a delivery destination refuses delivery , the postal worker is supposed to document that refusal , since certified mail can be a legal proof document . That doesn't happen at this PO branch . That is grossly improper , if not downright illegal. It is definitely a transgression of postal rules and regulations. Just try telling that to anyone at the PO , if and when they listen . read more

This post office is a disaster. Often we don't receive our mail delivery until 8:00 PM. They constantly mis-route or fail to deliver mail. This has been going on for years. They have recently returned my Amex and Mastercard bills as well as our Fidelity statements to the originators indicating we could not be found. Additionally, our mailbox is constantly filled with mail for other apartments. The straw that broke the camel's back happened today, when a tracking number indicated that an important package had been delivered and placed in our mailbox. Of course it wasn't there. Went to the post office, and was told the tracking number indicated the package was delivered. Asked to speak to the supervisor, and was his office had been moved to a different location. Do yourself a favor, use Fed Ex or UPS if you can and receive your bills electronically if you can. T read more

Wah wah wah...geez you people are spoiled! Try going to a post office in Brooklyn and the difference is like night and day. The lines are longer, you have to speak through plexi and lift the side window when you have a package (where you and the employee take turns lifting it otherwise it wouldn't work). This place was great and so was Wendy. It also felt like a nice classic post office with the decor. They open and close later compared to the average post office. They also open til 4pm on a sat. All of BK's post offices close at 1pm! Quit complaining and learn to appreciate. Also come around 8ish, lines aren't bad. read more

While running an errand in the city, was in desperate need of a post office. I found this post office through Yelp (thanks Yelp!) and was really not looking forward to standing in long lines. Although when I got to the PO, the line was long with folks sending packages, one of the workers ushered those of us who did not have packages to another window (where packages are picked up) in order to make the line move faster. I agree, the experience of standing on line here is soul-sucking, and, at its best, reminiscent of the futility of "Waiting for Godot." But, folks, this branch cannot compare in sheer nightmarish malice to the post office on Third and 91st. HOWEVER, I HAVE encountered very helpful employees here by phone, most recently Mr. Tramble, this morning. But, sigh, I now live on Long Island, where the postal employees greet me with a "good morning", help re-tape packages if need be, crack jokes with the customers and wish me a good day. I have been using this post office for nearly 15 years all I can tell you it is getting worse every day. The new manager a short black guy is unhelpful , rude and have no idea what he is doing. There are 16 windows with only two or three open if you are lucky. Many times I have taken items to get shipping cost when about to ship it I am charged totally different amount and lost my business profit. When discussed it with the manager he put his shoulder up saying did he or she write the amount on the box I can not accept it. Very poorly managed. Even one is too much for it. read more

Awful. I frequent this post office very often. I see different things all the time, but I mind my business as my mission is to quickly go in and quickly come out. To make a long story short right now, Millie and Mr. Tramble BOTH should be out of a job: on October 12 I had certified mail to go out. I prepare my certified documents ahead of time (to quickly go to the window and finish at the window). My certified mail envelope had a pre paid postage stamp on it, I bought it to Millie's attention because I did not want her to make a mistake and charge me twice for postage. Millie explained she never seen the postage before and proceeded to process the certified mail. Tramble happened to have walked by and Millie showed him the envelope and tramble refused to accept my mail. I asked him to explain why and he told me to speak to him at a different window (two windows to the left of Millie's window) tramble and I spoke but he couldn't give me specific or helpful info as to why he was declining; I took his name and information so that I could later handle the matter. I returned to Millie's window to finish being processed and MILLIE HAD TOOK THE LIBERTY OF THROWING AWAY THE CERTIFIED MAIL LABELS WE WERE PROCESSING less than 3 minutes ago. I asked Millie if she could please retrieve the labels from the garbage as the documents enclosed in the envelope were legal documents that I prepared and included the certified mailing number on it. I informed her she was disrupting my order and process of business unnecessarily. I insisted she get the certified label to continue processing she told me she didn't need for me to tell her what to do. I replied I did not need her attitude and she walked away from the window and did not return. She went to the back and spoke to tramble (I suppose) tramble came out and I asked him if he could please get the label I was working on and he said it was in the garbage outside in the back of the post office. I was so shocked I called 911 and 311. Luckily there were other postal staff there behind the window who had compassion for this unnecessary nonsense tramble and Millie were up to today and one lady stopped seeing her own customers to put on blue gloves to search the garbage fore me (still not able to locate the label). An additional kind(/but not really ) lady processed a new label and ranged me up so that I could hurry and go back to my regular business. If the post office staff here carries out their daily business by yelling at customers, being rude and short with customers, and conducting destructive behavior .... action needs to be taken. I personally never wish someone without means of livelihood.... but Ms. Millie and Mr. Tramble both need to be let go from their positions for the attitude and conduct they demonstrated on October 12, 2017 at about 2:40pm read more

My home USPS Office. Not the greatest. The line is always a 10-15 minute wait, no matter the time of day. The staff tries hard to be as personable as they can but honestly this post office serves a LARGE area which means they get a lot of their own residents flooding the post office each day and like any of us, they are overwhelmed. :( read more

10 min subway ride from grand central but without the wait of the grand central usps! Not as crowded as grand central, and there are often attendants at multiple windows, although still gets crowded sometimes. Also right next to FedEx & Hunter College. Money orders, packing supplies, etc Kind attendants. read more

I tracked my package and it said a delivery attempt was made yesterday. Bunch of bull because I was home the whole day. if an attempt was made, they didnt even leave a notice. I went today to the post office to ask for my package and they said its oit for redelivery. I saw the mail man in my building and he said he doesnt have my package. So i called the post office again and they put me on hold 15 mins and ive called 3x and they put me directly on hold. you people are disgusting. Tbh I was expecting the worst when I was coming here due to the past reviews but it was quite a pleasant experience. I came here for first time passport application even though I live quite far since they have walk-in. The walk in is from 10-3 (different for Saturday) and only from Tuesday to Saturday. So I came around 9:40 since people always talked about being on line for super long. One of the staff told me they don't open passport window until 10 so I waited on line. Around 10 he came and told me they were a bit busy and if I could just be patient l. I didn't mind so I stood there patiently. I think he felt bad so every 10 minutes he kept assuring me someone will get to me and he was sorry that I had to wait. Around 10:30 I finally got to the window. Oh and this whole time, I was the only one there for the passport so I would say the you don't have to worry much about getting in line. So I had my pictures and forms pre-filled so it was pretty quick. If you don't there are 2 forms at the window (one for first time one for renewal ) and they will help you fill them out, they also have photo service. So I brought my certificate of naturalization and state ID (original and copies front and back) but Mei (the staff) said that state ID was not enough so she just helped me photocopied the certificate again as proof of identity. So basically I only used the certificate. Mei was super nice unlike the past reviews said. I was scared at first but she started making convos with me asking me about school and stuff. Anyway make sure you have cash/check/debit card with you since you have to pay the dept of states and they don't accept credit. However the fees (pay to the post office) they do accept credit. So yea I'm glad I came here since making appointment is such a hassle that I prefer walk-in so much better. read more
