I arrived at the downtown Redwood City Post Office five minutes before closing and was already standing in line when the clock hit 5:00. Instead of finishing with the customers who were already inside, the cashier-Gordon-abruptly told me to leave and kicked me out of the building. This wasn't a policy explanation or a courteous request. It was rude, dismissive, and completely unnecessary. I didn't walk in after closing--I was already waiting my turn. Cutting off service mid-line because you want to go home is unacceptable, especially for a public service people rely on. What's most frustrating is the clear attitude of "there will be no consequences." That mindset shows, and it reflects poorly on the entire office. This wasn't about rules-it was about not wanting to work the remaining customers. I've never experienced anything like this at a post office before. Completely unprofessional. read more

Parking is terrible, the lobby is dirty, the hours are odd, and you can't even swing by the lobby and pick up flat rate boxes like you can at any of the 16472 other post offices around here. It seems like every time I come by they are closed and I can't pick up anything to mail a package or use a self service kiosk. If the window lobby is closed you're out of luck read more

This one is ok. I mostly come here to drop off packages with prepaid labels, since it's the closest to my house. It's a really old facility. Pros: near downtown, convenient location near a lot of other businesses. Staff is typically polite and ok. Cons: Free parking is verrrrry limited here. There's a handful of spots in the narrow strip between Jefferson and the paid lot, and they have a ten minute limit. There's definitely a lot of visits at peak hours when you'll cut it close... huge waste of time when you just want to only drop off a prepaid package. At busy times it can be more than 10-15 min. Hours start later than the main post office on broadway, and the lunch time isn't clear (I think ends at 1:30 or 2? Doesn't seem posted online). read more

Parking absolutely sucks here, especially around lunch time as everyone is out in downtown Redwood City to grab food or take care of errands. I had to circle around their back parking lot a couple of times before I was lucky enough to nap a spot. However, the staff here is efficient and I was in and out within 5 minutes which made my day easier. Experience is what you would expect for a typical USPS office - my recommendation would be just to come here during an off hour. read more

Absolutely livid. I left my wallet accidentally at home and thought "No biggie. Just returning packages already paid for". Well, I usually use UPS or Fedex who provide the pocket to attach the return label. Well, not here. They said I could use tape to "tape it to the box". I thought "Ok. Cool" "Do you have tape that I can use?". The guy proceeded to say "You can buy tape for $3". I explained I didn't have my wallet. The guy could careless. I had to drive all the way home to get my wallet. Moral of the story: Make sure you have your labels taped to the box prior to arriving or else you can purchase tape for $3. Oh, and bring your wallet so you can pay for said tape. read more

my favourite post office in rwc. why? i typically stop by to just drop off a letter or two in the slot, which is easy to do, even when the actual "office" is closed or employees are on their lunch break. i'm downtown frequently enough to make this post office very convenient for me. i do wish there was dedicated parking for this post office, but there's just a few parking spaces in front, less than 10 i believe, and you have to pay for these spots. the alternative is to park across the street in the jefferson garage which is free for the first 1 1/2 hours...more than enough time to process transactions at the post office. read more

It's that time of the year again.. time to send out gifts to your nieces and nephews that will (hopefully) get there before the big Dec. 25. Assuming the world doesn't explode on Dec. 21st that is.. This place is small but the service is quick and the guy even small talked with me!! How impressive is that for a post office! There is NO free parking lot. Park in the back, turn LEFT when you go into the parking lot from Jefferson as it's $0.50/hr on the right and $0.25/hr on the left. Get your quarter ready!! I waited in line for 5 mins. It moved so fast despite there being only 2 people servicing customers. I've had SO many horrible experiences at other post offices that I'm giving these guys 5 stars as I was in and out in record time. read more

Housed in an older building, this location usually has short/no lines and easy (though not free) parking. It's handicap accessible. It doesn't offer passport services. The employees have all been pleasant and helpful. There are two stamp machines and there used to be Automated Postal Center machine where you can weigh packages and buy postage. They took away the Automated Postal Center recently because it wasn't generating enough business. I heard they moved the machine to the Menlo Park post office. Too bad. read more

A ClusterF*&k of Frustration! (and why are there TWO listings for this on Yelp?!) No parking?! Drove to the back, it's ALL pay parking. Inside, there is NO parcel bin. Sure there's one on the wall...that fits tiny packages. The line is wrapped around to the door. The workers are blowing fans and sweaty like in a sweatshop. This Post Office location is super close to my work where I could walk and not have to park. But there are plenty of spots out front as this location is very quick and responsive to processing people's request. I didn't have to wait in line and was in and out within 5 minutes to mail a package including a request for tracking. I will definitely come back and the Post Office staff member was extremely pleasant which made the 4 star rating easy to give and for Post Office at that. read more

Submitted a change of address twice and twice they got it wrong. Went to the Broadway location to speak with a supervisor since this location does not have one. After speaking to the supervisor he said they show no information in their system for the change. So the first change of address I submitted was entered, but incorrectly and the second change to correct their error never even made it into the system. The supervisor basically threw his hands up in the air about it and left me to submit, yet another change of address (third times a charm right) and go off of good faith they will get it correct this time. Meanwhile, ALL and I mean ALL of my personal information and my daughters is just floating around somewhere in mail land and they could care less! Great! When my personal information is stolen guess who will be dealing with it, me! Guess all that is left to do is stand outside of my old apartment and find the mail carrier from my old address and ask them where my mail is going since the inept Redwood City postal workers are not able to perform their duties. Worse of all is that they keep having me go back and forth between the Jefferson and Broadway branches to sort it out rather then them picking up the phone and talking the each other, saving the customer the burden of their error!!! I opened a PO box specifically to have my mail forwarded to, but guess what I haven't received a thing and it is about to be closed. And let me guess, they're not going to refund that money or extend it another 6 months. Oh yes they are!!!! That money was loaned to me and it is not going to be for nothing. I knew I should've went with the San Carlos branch. They always provide exceptional customer service AND unlike Redwood City they don't charge you to park. read more

OK- not a WPA mural inside, but Jose Moya del Pino's "Flower Farming and Vegetable Raising" is just another reason that this post office is a jewel in the rough. Something about it's quaint construction makes me all warm and fuzzy inside, in contrast to the typical stale brick municipal buildings back east. The service was friendly and helpful -- these were returns so I was trying to track down the cheapest shipping option possible. I was completely surprised out effective and kind the process was! Was waiting on very important paperwork from our bank. Signed the redelivery notice on Monday then didn't receive the package the next day (Tuesday) as stated. When I called the post office on Wednesday morning, the lady stated "it is not on the shelf and we have no record of it." But did say she would look into it and contact me back. I did not receive a call back as she promised. I called again on Thursday and this time she stated, "ma'am the post office just never received it, I don't know what to tell you." I explained I had a notice from the post office stating they had it in their posession for redelivery. She again promised a follow-up call, but I never received one. At this point, I gave up and contacted my bank and advised them of the issue. On Saturday, my package was finally delivered but the package was damaged. I had the worst experience at this post office! There is a middle-aged gentleman there (didn't get his name) who has been rude to me on at least three occasions. You have to work hard to be this inhospitable and obnoxious. I don't understand why one has to be rude when it is so easy to be kind and understanding. I'm sure many people don't have everything perfectly organized when they get to the window, especially when they are rushing to get there after work.
